There's always that one band that you think hasn't been around long enough to be eligible for the Hall of Fame only to find out that they are and that you are in fact old.

Depeche Mode and the Moody Blues both deserve to be in imo.

Bon Jovi as well, slippery when wet was an amazing album and they are one of the few bands that can still sell out an entire arena after this long.

Radiohead, The Cars, Dire Straits, and Moody Blues. Keep rap shit out of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Radiohead is probably the most accomplished band on that list. I want more Prog representation in the HoF, so I also want Moody Blues in. Hall of Fame snubs all prog bands except the big sellers (Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush). Took them five+ years to induct Yes. Don't even bother to nominate King Crimson, ELP (who are 2/3 dead now) or Camel.

Don't know why My Bloody Valentine isn't in even in. I'm really annoyed with the Hall of Fame's commerical over critical view on bands. And don't get me started on why rap and hip-hop are in a ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

And some other great songs.

I don't know. It's not really about quantity, is it. That album and their sound stand tall still.
It's a pretty typical sunshine pop album, a very good one with some excellent songwriting and arrangement but I'm not sure if it's really enough for a lasting legacy. I think my problem is finding anyone who was influenced by that record at the time, since it's popularity was well after it's release.

Judas Priest is NOT in the Hall of Fame already?!

This is the real injustice. Priest and Moody Blues are by far the ones on this list where I think "man, they should be in there years ago".

Radiohead will get in, but I think it should be a few years yet until they do. Just doesn't feel right.

I'm a big fan of depeche mode since 1986 but they're not really rock and roll?

Bon Jovi is kinda way too pop.

So Rage Against the Machine should def be in the RNRHF just because they are badass. And they are totally unique

They deserve it, they released some of the biggest critically acclaimed albums in modern music history. Out of 90s rock acts, I want them, and Smashing Pumpkins in. Both are great bands.

Lot of those bands should be in. Bon Jovi no fucking thanks. He does have a lot of albums sold.

LL Cool J and the rock and roll hall of fame.... well I guess why not lol.

King Crimson definitely deserves to be there but who gets in is the big problem since it's more of a project than a band. ELP are fantastic and were huge in the US but it's a bit of a tough one for me, they're a bit patchy at times for me though an amazing live band for sure. Camel is a no go, great records but they were a second generation prog band who didn't do anything for the genre nor had any success in the US except for freeform radio.

Why is Kraftwerk not there yet god dammit.

How are the Smashing Pumpkins still not there?

Give them a couple years or until they release a new album so the people at the HoF remember them. Corgan did Pink Floyd's induction, so seeing him there again would be rather funny.

King Crimson would be easy. Give awards to the 3 major line ups:
- In the Court of the Crimson King line up (early 70s)
- Red line up (mid 70s)
- Disciple line up (80s)
These all make the most sense, and it was their major periods as a band.

Camel I guess is too obscure, I was trying to think of another band at the moment and they came to me. Jethro Tull is a band that should be in, then. ELP should be in due to their sheer musicianship they put on display in most of their records. Keith Emerson is the Jimi Hendrix of Keyboards, and Carl Palmer is a crazy drummer. They deserve the nod!

Keith Emerson is just insane. Really, the live albums are so good.

As for Smashing Pumpkins I love them and if I had to pick a band from that era, they would win for me. It sounds like they're alternative rock by most accounts but they were so much more than that. So many influences they were closer to experimental/prog in my opinion and amazing live.

I always liked you Atom Heart Mother.

I've been on a huge Smashing Pumpkins kick lately. Got hooked on Snail (again) and went into their discography again. Love Gish to Adore.

Jimmy Chamberlain's insane drumming deserves to be in the hall of fame.

Bon Jovi isn't in already?! They need to fix that, stat! Judas Priest and Smashing Pumpkins totally need to make it in too.

Yeah, Jimmy's definitely up there as one of the most incredible drummers on the planet, massively underrated.

I'm always on a Pumpkins kick haha but I've really been digging Machina/Machina II the now, Stand Inside Your Love is a great love song and The Everlasting Gaze has some amazing drumming and awesome riffs.

Sort of unrelated, but I just learned the other day that Kate Bush is a total right-wing nutjob. Blew my mind.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe deserves it. Her influence is incalculable and hugely underappreciated.

Just watched this due to your post -- god damn, that drumming!

the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is by definition the lamest thing that ever existed.

It's lame as hell, but the part I enjoy the most of it is seeing bands reuniting (most of the time) and speaking. Added bonus if they perform. The YES induction was awesome -- seeing all of the band talk about their careers and seeing Steve Howe/Geddy Lee/Rick Wakeman/Jon Anderson performing was super cool.

I agree, but I get happy knowing people I love get a ton of press for a brief period.

I'm really annoyed with the Hall of Fame's commerical over critical view on bands. And don't get me started on why rap and hip-hop are in a ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

Rock and Roll history and Pop history are interwined, or rather one and the same. The Beatles and Rolling Stones would not have found their sound nor success if not for covering and being inspired by 50s and 60s girl groups.

Carole King and Ellie Greenwich, inducted in the non-performer category, shaped pop music as we know it as Brill Building songwriters, but in turn also rock and roll as we know it, because that sound inspired and in some cases was lifted wholesale by dudes with guitars. What's the difference between "Chains" performed by The Cookies and "Chains" performed by the Beatles? What's the difference between pop and rock, then? Superficial aesthetic descriptions and values coined by Melody Maker and NME?

And so, if we're not to say "no artists post-1990 allowed", what's the problem with rap and hip hop? Like rock and pop it's inspired by black music scenes and the whole of music history is to be found in its various mutations. My Bloody Valentine does not sound any more like Chuck Berry than the Spice Girls or Jay-Z do, why do MBV have more of a right to a place in this hall? "Rock and Roll" is not applicable to most "rock" bands today. Your distinction seems wholly artifical.

About fucking time.

Bon Jovi - No
Kate Bush - Yes
The Cars - A guilty pleasure of mine, but no.
Depeche Mode - No
Dire Straits - Yes
Eurythmics - No
J. Geils Band - Absolutely. Greatest live rock band of all time, period.
Judas Priest - Yes
LL Cool J - My vote is like a shark's fin. So, maybe?
MC5 - Tiny catalog, but enormously influential. I'd lean yes.
The Meters - Probably a long shot, but my personal opinion is absofuckinglutely yes.
Moody Blues - God, no.
Radiohead - They do next to nothing for me, but they'll get it.
Rage Against the Machine - Yes
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan - Love you Chaka, but no.
Nina Simone - You can make genre arguments, but I'd give her any accolade she's eligible for.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Yes. Yes. Yes.
Link Wray - Ehh, I'd lean no, but I do recognize his influence.
The Zombies - Yes, because I'm a fan and fuck it.

All strictly personal opinion (obviously) on who deserves it at some point.

Sort of unrelated, but I just learned the other day that Kate Bush is a total right-wing nutjob. Blew my mind.

She said she liked Theresa May in response to a question about the fear of women having positions of power. That doesn't make her a total right wing nutjob unless you live in a world where nuance doesn't exist. Here is the quote -

”We have a female prime minister here in the UK. I actually really like her and think she's wonderful. I think it's the best thing that's happened to us in a long time. She's a very intelligent woman but I don't see much to fear. I will say it is great to have a woman in charge of the country. She's very sensible and I think that's a good thing at this point in time."

I can't see why anyone would have their mind blown or label her a "total right wing nutjob" over something as innocuous as this. I'm an SNP voter so obviously I disagree with her but I'm not going to throw her records out the window or paint her as a crazy right winger just because she likes Theresa May.

Anyway, I'd like to see Nina Simone win. I can't believe she isn't in there already

CTL+F "Deep Purple". Still nothing.

Get your shit sorted RnR HOF.

Edit. They got inducted last year apparently. COOL! That was a real glaring miss. Somehow I missed it entirely

Lol me too. I just started randomly listening to Smashing pumpkins again, and man Everlasting gaze is such a kick ass song. But Bodies is still my favorite pumpkins song.

I like a lot of those bands, but come on. Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) has more talent than all of the other choices combined.
