Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Eh, it's not so much that as it is doubling down on the franchise's worst entry (Shadow Dragon) and doubling down on the worst aspect from the newest entry (the characters, especially the royals). The game would've done better had they included more popular Awakening characters (more Donnel, Lon'qu, and Tharja) and less meh characters (Lissa, Frederick, and Cordelia). In addition, the game desperately needs more legacy characters. The fact that Ike, Roy, Hector, and Alm are not in the game is just bonkers, and Ephraim and Erika should've been easy adds. Hell, throw FE4 fans a bone and put Sigurd in there. The roster is just kind of bad, and the roster is most of the appeal in a game like this.
I've never seen A post so subjective

Sellthrough was always going to be good for CSIII after the first indications we've got.

17k difference between trackers is a notable gap, 5-10k is more usual considering the amount of sales, we'll see in the coming weeks if both trackers will try to align with each other or not.

@encephalon : Yes

There was already a 16-18k discrepancy between trackers for Sen I&II but that was on a bigger sales volume (135k vs 150k)

About the domestic home game market in the first half of 2017 (excerpt from release)

The domestic home game market size in the first half of 2017 amounted to 76.51 billion yen (189.6% compared with last year), software to 74.74 billion yen (110.2% same), total of hardware and software to 151.5 billion yen (139.9% same) It was. In addition to the fact that Nintendo Switch has led the market overall, in software, there are 3 million copies in total of 2 models of "Dragon Quest XI seeking time to pass" (Square Enix / released on July 29, 2017 / 3DS · PS 4) It was a big hit. The domestic home game market size (total of hardware and software) in the first half of 2017 exceeded the previous year for the first time in five years since the first half of 2012.

In the second half of 2017, "Super Mario Odyssey" (Nintendo / Scheduled to be released on 27th October 2017 / Switch) and "Pocket Monster Ultra Sun Ultramoon" (Pokemon / Scheduled to be released on November 17, 2017 / 3DS) Monster Hunter: World "(Capcom / released on January 26, 2018 / PS 4) and other large titles are also refrained from attracting attention for the expansion of the game market. <Famitsu survey>

As expected, Famitsu shows that Sen III sold more than 80% of its stock. I say "as expected" because it looks like the game was more or less sold out in amazon.jp several days before the launch. I think some tracker also said 70% of the stock was gone the first day, as it's a very core driven game. It does look like the launch met Falcom expectation at least. Let's see if it can reach 150K without digital.

Kinda crazy how FIFA 18 Switch is selling more in raw numbers in Japan than in the U.K. even though the franchise is a behemoth over there and a fart in the wind in Japan.

I mean, is it though? Japan has almost 2 times the population of the UK, and Switch has caught on in Japan in a bigger way than anywhere else. That and one would be inclined to think of FIFA as a series known for selling best on consoles. Couple this with retailing issues and feature cuts in the Switch version, it doing as bad as it did in the UK seems a bit more understandable I think.

Actually, speaking of FIFA on Switch, I saw someone post the Wii U version of 13 only did like 1,500, but how did the Wii and 3DS entries do?

It’s like saying Dragon Quest would sell better in the US than japan because the us population is more than double than Japan lol

I know that people just loooooove to take FIFA Switch numbers and say that it bombed in the UK, but they don't have the install base to have huge numbers (UK is Sony land through and through). And FIFA will sell pretty well in the next few months I think.

Japan's FIFA numbers for Switch seem to be fine, not a runaway success but pretty decent. And it will continue to sell.

People tend to forget that games can sell past their first week. Some games start with lower sales and then have a steady growth. Nothing wrong with that.

I hope that FIFA has lots of good bush radio talk so people know that it isn't like the previous "efforts" from EA. This time they made a pretty good football game.

Of course, I don't think that football is as big in Japan as it is in Europe, so that might be a factor too.

I don't think it's as big as Europe, but soccer (and I say Soccer rather than football as Japan is one of the few countries to call it that) is still very popular. It is second only to baseball in viewership and above baseball in students who play it.

And historically soccer games have done very well in Japan.

Again, not as popular as Europe, but still notable.

Mario Kart 8 graph is crazy. Deluxe will reach the million mark by the end of the year if it is able to pull 15k units in average October week (ok, new Switch stock, but still).

I think it did well in the US. We have yet to get data, but by looking at anecdotal evidences, it seems the game was well received by the public, and this showed in, for example, online stores charts.

Lol. Even if it reache 50k in japan? That is still sub par amount of sales number lol. I dont think Metroid as a franchise is salvagable in Japan in anyway lol.

Mario Kart 7 after it's first year:
20./26. [3DS] Mario Kart 7 <RCE> (Nintendo) {2011.12.01} (¥4.800) - 1.851.264

Mario Kart 8 after it's first year:
[WIU] Mario Kart 8 # <RCE> (Nintendo) {2014.05.29} (¥6.156) - 1.006.719

MK8D by May is likely going to be very close to MK7's first year's numbers in Japan.

Um, no offense. But the character picks you have are pretty insane in that they would have no affect on sales asides from missing Tharja and Ike. People aren't hyped about Denis/Donnel and the most mediocre GBA game. You already have three of the more popular swordmasters in the series with Lyn/Ryoma/ and Navarre(which he should be in in post dlc); so Lon'Qu would have been even more redundant.

Fire Emblem has major burnout issues, there's too much product in the last couple of years (Cipher/Heroes/Fates/Sov) akin to the fallout during the GBA/GCN games where the sales kept on dropping. SoV dropping as hard as it did was the real warning shot of Fire Emblem saturation.

I think easily the main problem of FEW is how....the plot is so uninteresting. There is a huge lack of villains in the whole trailer.

We only see the two twin and all goody two shoes characters keep preaching nakama lol.

I mean, they can easily make the setting into some kind of drama where the twin is separated and end up with both of them leading their own armies into battle against each other. But nope. The enemy is that blackie shadowy glowy dragon and bam. It is over.

The setting itself for FE fans...is just not compelling enough.

Another part of the problem is KT really fucked up the marketing of this game.

Nintendo of Europe being incompetent really screwed their promo plans.

Considering how much they had to compromise with CS1/2 by adding handheld ports, I don't agree. Sen III definitely benefits from being console only, even if it'll suffer for it sales wise (which I'm sure they'll recoup with the eventual international releases)

To be honest, having a third game of the series on a brand new console that depends on the players playing the first two games is a hard sell.

How many players are awaiting the port of 1/2 before even trying this?

It’s like saying Dragon Quest would sell better in the US than japan because the us population is more than double than Japan lol

Not really. I'd say Dragon Quest is even more minor in the West than FIFA is in Japan (at least at this point), and FIFA is a game that is basically on every platform it can be, whereas a DQ game is usually on only two or three platforms, barring remakes.

Point being, there are more than a few reasons why Switch FIFA might plausibly do better in Japan than the UK.

I feel like FEW suffered more from gameplay style than character roster (which was admittedly also not great).

Are hardcore Fire Emblem fans who love it for its turn based strategy really dying to buy a Musou style action game? At least Zelda going from 3d action to Musou 3d action wasn't that jarring, I'd also argue the character and lore of Zelda seemed put to far better use in HW - not to mention the novelty of playing as a lot of the historic franchise characters for the very first time.

Seems like it failed to tap into the FE fan base and mostly just sold to the (dwindling) Musou crowd. I'd imagine a true FE on Switch will sell far, far better.

I mean the original musou game was based off RotK?

went do you guys think NSW will pass WiiU LTD? mid-2018?

I wonder if they can have the supplies to sell >100k per week in November and December, that would bring it very near of 3 million

I think another big failure on FEW is how Koei seems to missed out on relation building which many modern FE fans love.

A fire Emblem crosover should be the best place to see a character interact with each other which all fans dream of.

Like how Lyn would probably said to Robin that he felt that Robin oozes Tactician aura that she ks very familiar or how Cordelia can come to consult with Sheeda on how to attract Chrom attention after she noticed how close Sheeda is with Marth.

All those small addition should be able to entize the fire emblem fans there. But sadly there is nothing on that part.

Should be at least 2.2 million at the end of the year so probably by summer next year if sales don’t suddenly just drop dead

It will be well ahead of 3M by the end of the year, stock will increase dramatically while still not be enough to satisfy the pent-up demand + the usual Nintendo Christmass demand.

So to answer the original question : this year in December, probably first half.

That is if they can increase supply that much. I hope they can, I would love to see Switch at 3m + before the end of the year

Switch is going to have a YTD bigger than 3M therefore late this year, early next year.

Wii sales in the first holiday after the launch (December 2007): 670K

3DS sales in the first holiday (December 2011): 1450K

If stocks are there, Switch has the chance to sell even a million units next December.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
MH XX Switch showing decent legs. Will easily pass 200K and should at the very least get above the Wii U game's LTD.

A bunch of people told me after 3 weeks that the legs were horrible though?
We have to see if this remains the lowest baseline it will sell for the rest of the year or if it will drop down further, but if it does sell 6k (and more in the holiday weeks) every week, then it'll be an amazing result in terms of legs.
