New Official Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon Trailer

Not that it matters much, but did they actually confirm anywhere it was a space between? I remember them just calling it another dimension.

It is known that people from other timelines/universes fell into an ultra-hole and then came out to another timeline/universe. That alone should confirm that all the universes are connected through the same ultra-space (maybe every connection/tunnel has it's own ultraspace with it's own UBs).

I love the variety of Ultra Space - I had previously though of it as pure spacey sci-fi. Awesome to see it go beyond that.

To be honest I was on the fence about this being a day 1 purchase but now I'm on board.

Ah, I'm pretty sure he's going to be a post game sort of deal which means I'll never use it. :(

Yeah he probably will, which is a shame as I have a free spot on my Ultra Sun team so he would have fitted perfectly on there.

I'm just hoping we can get an earlier Type: Null this time. But with that one I can trade one over if we can't.

Same, I wanted to use Type Null in Sun and Moon but couldn't.

I'm guessing the story is almost exactly the same up to where Lusamine opens up the Ultra Wormhole, at that point everything will go nuts and the story will start focusing on Necrozma and the Ultra Beasts.

Probably, though I really hope that Lusamine and Gladeon get fully fleshed out in Ultra Sun and Moon as I felt that they were underdeveloped in Sun and Moon.

Pokémon Story Cyber Sleuth.

I really want to find out how this "new pokémon in third version stuff" is going to work. Will vanilla Sun & Moon get updates? Or these new UB's locked to Ultra games?

It will probably be the latter option, especially since one of the Ultra Beast has a new move that didn't exist in Sun and Moon.

I'm sure there are posts like mine that pop in from time to time, but these modern Pokemon games look so unappealing and confusing.

I'm not complaining about modern Pokemon creature designs, but from a game design perspective, these games don't look very accessible to someone who hasn't played Pokemon in 10+ years and look to share little of what made R/B/G/S/G/C so much fun (for me.)

Wormholes?? lol.

Yes there post like yours that pop in from time to time and they are annoying and fueled by blind nostalgia.

Let me lay out the facts for you, Sun and Moon was the fastest selling Pokémon game to date.

Secondly this is not the first Pokémon game where the player travels to another dimension as Pokémon Platinum did it with the distortion world.

Thirdly, Every single Pokémon game is super accessible for both side and still retain the charm that makes the series fun to play so the problem isn't the game, it's you.

Fighting the UBs on their own turf sounds cool, but from the trailer it looks like just a bunch of linear walkways. I was hoping we'd get to explore more. I do wonder if we will be able to capture the UBs before the end of the story though.

I can see it following the same beats for the most part, but this trailer shows that you encounter the Ultra Space team several times during the story. In fact, they're seen replacing the Aether member trying to catch Lillie in the opening at Aether Paradise.

Out of the Ultra Recon Squad's team I really like Zossie, I really hope that she's an interesting character in the game.

Also it might be just me but does anyone get a royal family vibe from them?

It's so bad they made Aggron ditch it's rock typing opting for pure steel when it mega evolves. Fuck they thinking here?

I wish that Mega Aggron was a split evolution for Lairon.

Regular Aggron still has its uses despite the horrible defensive typing. Rock is a great type offensively and a Head Smash from Aggron hurts.

FINALLY a trailer that gets some excitement out of me!
Still really worried by the fact that they haven't shown any new Alolan forms or Megas...

The new additions look cool!

But I can't wait to leave Alola for good. It's definitely my least favorite region so far. The lack of proper Pokémon Gyms doesn't help either :/

Ok, that was the trailer I wanted, not spoiling the ability for the new UBs could be cool, concidering it looked like the pure poison one changed day to night in it's cutscene. But that's basicly all I want from trailers, no more need until maybe a small one for launch, this one had enough content in my opinion (not spoiling the entire game like 2 last releases would be great)!

I would be very disappointed and surprised if we don't get new Alolan forms.

As for Mega, they were a gen 6 thing so we won't be getting more.

Gym will probably return in future Pokémon games as Island Trial is more an Alolan culture and ties into the lore of Ultra space as Totem Pokémon get stats boost to them tapping into the energy from Ultra Wormholes which are common in Alola.

A gym set up wouldn't have work in that concept.

If they had new Alolan forms they would have probably been revealing them over the previous months.

Megas where a cool addition to the game, dumping them is stupid.

Sure. It's totally justifiable given the "lore" of the region. But that doesn't make me dislike it any less. I also don't like how distinctly separated each island is from the rest. It makes me feel as if the world was a set of levels, not the relatively interconnected world of previous games.

Oh, and Hau sucks :/

So were pokemon following you and challenge mode, but Gamefreak dropped those too. Abandoning good features is not something new for GF.

I think that ship has sailed forever, man.

Pokémon Bank's Dex is pretty cool :p

This is their solution to the "there are too many Pokémon!" problem. By restricting the pool, they neither have to keep coming up with ways to accommodate all species in every generation (that is to say, making them all obtainable through events, spin-offs and/or features like Hoopa's rings), nor do they have to worry about every single species' effect on the VGC metagame.

I can see why that bothers some people, but it's inevitable at this point. Throwing them all in every generation takes away the spotlight from new and updated critters and just makes competitive play way too chaotic. Ecosystems like that of Kalos and Alola are the way to go moving forward.

The new Ultra Beasts look really cool, I miiiight impulse buy once it comes out.
I enjoyed Sun & Moon, like I enjoy every Pokemon game, but it just didn't click with me the same way some of my favorites in the series has. I thought the Alolan region was nice to look at, but kind of a chore to actually navigate, and wasn't very interesting to explore. I missed gym battles a lot more than I thought I would and I also really wish they'd bring back real rivals. Most of all, I thought the new Pokemon introduced were among the series' worst.
The QOL improvements were great though.

Yeah it's an alternate take. How different it is is up in the air, but judging from the last few trailers pretty dang different.

Any point in playing the first one ? I just finished SMTIV yesterday and got a nice credit in the shop.
I mean I guess what the consensus will be, but would be interested to know what people think.

They've been restricting the pool since gen 3. This isn't a new thing. But at least gen 3 to 6 had a national dex.

I'm a Toronto man and there's this semi-successful YouTuber in my area that just did a decent breakdown of the trailer. You guys should check him out:

Love this cat. The way he speaks and the way he gets ahead of himself from time to time with blurting out the first thing that came to his mind really takes me back to how my family speaks.

I love UB Adhesive design! She looks like a Special Attack and SHE WILL BE A PERMANENT PART OF MY META TEAM FOREVER!
Watch her base speed stat be 40 driving me crazy. Also read next spoiler tag that I will add if somehow my post offends anyone.

No, 3rd versions serve as replacements for the originals. Only exception is Black2/White2.

US/UM are out next month so I'd just wait for those since that's what everyone is going to be playing.

Megas were additions to the core gameplay, very different.

Mega Pokemon are still in the game though, even if they're not adding any at the moment.

Another new Ultra Beast being revealed gives me hope on other content we still don't know about - namely new Alola Forms. If they're still announcing Ultra Beasts that haven't been leaked or teased in any way, surely there could be more Alola Forms as well.

I actually really like the new Ultra Beast, even though I don't love Ultra Beasts as a concept. I do miss the more humble, natural feel of the first two generations. But then again, my favorite Pokemon game is Platinum, so maybe I have a taste for all this otherworldly stuff after all.

Sun and Moon don't have visible national dexes anyways, I wonder if this is why.

Yeah, it's not like the National Pokédex numbers appeared in the game (in visible form). They could just update Pokémon Bank to display the new numbering, and all traces of the "old" numbering would be gone.

But most likely they'll just come after Marshadow. They've never had a problem with keeping related Pokémon separated in the National Pokédex, such as Landorus coming way after Thundurus and Tornadus.

Ushojax

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I'm surprised they are adding new UBs but no Alolan forms. Regional variants was a great idea and I hope they don't drop it like so many other features they've introduced.

No they haven't. Every single non-Mythical Pokémon is obtainable in Gen 3, 4, 5 and 6 without the need to transfer from older games. If not all 805 species (bar Mythicals) aren't available between SM, USUM and the generation's distribution events/spin-offs, it'll be a first.

Would let Tony Parker sleep with his wife
So I guess this is what happens in the anime next year. This is some trippy shit.

wasn't Gen 5 missing a lot or did the dream world cover those? I don't remember the kanto starters being available that generation

If you'd asked me prior to any reveals what I thought would be more likely, new UBs or new Alolan formes, I'd have said Alolan formes hands down. Adhesive is probably the most interesting UB yet because it's the most 'Pokemon' like of the bunch. The fact that we've seen it used by trainers and it being the only single type UB (expect Cosmog, Cosmoem and Necrozma) makes me wonder if it could perhaps be part of an evolution line?

I also seem to remember there being some 'evidence' that there were only going to be two new UBs a week or so ago, so I'm glad that's been proven incorrect.

That's what I'm talking about, there being no new Megas.

I know, but I wouldn't say they're dropping them. I mean they might be, but sometimes they take breaks with this stuff. Gen 3 didn't add any cross-generational evolutions but Gen 4 added a shitload for example. Mega evolved Pokemon still have an active presence in the marketing, but since they just did nearly 50 of them they might be wanting to let them simmer for a bit.

On the other hand I am pretty baffled that there's seemingly no new Alolan forms. That seemed like an obvious slam dunk.

They were available through Global Link and some real-life events. I should say that they were Japan-only though, as were some other event Pokémon, but available within the generation nonetheless.

I think Dream World did have some exclusive species though. Shame that it's gone forever, along with the ability to grow berries and other fun features. :(
I wonder if Game Freak will go their way to (temporarily?) revive it when the time comes for a BW/B2W2 rerelease in the far future. Would be very cool.

Yeah I am not a fan of Island Trial myself but for one game I can let it slide as after all we still need our first Dark type gym leader.

I also don't like how distinctly separated each island is from the rest. It makes me feel as if the world was a set of levels, not the relatively interconnected world of previous games.

Well that's been fixed slightly with the new Mantine Surf Pokéride, plus Alola is based on Hawaii which is an archipelago of island.

Oh, and Hau sucks :/

Hey man you take that back, Hau is miles better than the loser friends in X and Y.

Megas were additions to the core gameplay, very different.

Only in the meta game, in game Mega added nothing to the game.

And beside Mega are still in the game just that they aren't the focus this time around so it makes sense that we wouldn't get more, though I hope that we never get more of those abominations.

But most likely they'll just come after Marshadow. They've never had a problem with keeping related Pokémon separated in the Pokédex, such as Landorus coming way after Thundurus and Tornadus.

In Platinum the new Pokémon came after Dialga and Palkia with Giratina taking the last spot.

Whereas in Black and White 2 the whole Pokédex numbering was overhauled and the Unova legendary were at the end of the Pokédex.

My guess is they will lean towards how Black and White 2 did it as we have already see some Pokémon having their numbering changed.

The big question that I want to know is whether they removed Zygarde from the Alola Pokédex, it was stupid how he was shoehorned into Sun and Moon and I would annoyed if they pulled the same stunt again.

I think Dream World did have some exclusive species though. Shame that it's gone forever, along with the ability to grow berries and other fun features. :(

I wonder how Game Freak will handle Black/White and Black/White 2 then it comes for Unova to receive the remake treatment?

The Alolan forms were just a marketing ploy to lure back Gen 1 fans, no other generation's pokemon got Alolan forms. I'd be surprised if we ever saw regional forms ever again. As for cross-generational evolutions? They've largely abandoned that idea, with the only new one since Gen 4 being Sylveon in Gen 6.

Anyway, I'm still on the fence about US/UM. I'm going to need to see more, like the content in the game detailed before I pick it up. Story stuff is one thing, but I need more substantial stuff like QoL improvements, meaty post-game content that isn't a cheating Battle Tower, etc...

Yes, but I was talking specifically about the National Dex only. Sorry if that wasn't clear 😅

I was down on these games, but the Ultra Beast concept and designs were far and away the most interesting things about Sun and Moon, and I’m very happy to see them double down on it in these games.

I know that it's been a while since they've done cross-gen evos (except Sylveon) but my point was they returned to adding them in Gen 4 after not doing them in Gen 3, which was a 4 year gap. It's 100% likely that we'll never see another new Mega Evolution again but I think it's a bit premature to declare that.
