Asta and Yuno were abandoned together at the same church and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next Emperor Magus. However, as they grew up, some differences between them became plain. Yuno was a genius with magic, with amazing power and control, while Asta could not use magic at all, and tried to make up for his lack by training physically. When they received their Grimoires at age 15, Yuno got a spectacular book with a four-leaf clover (most people receive a three-leaf-clover), while Asta received nothing at all. However, when Yuno was threatened, the truth about Asta's power was revealed, he received a five-leaf clover Grimoire, a "black clover"! Now the two friends are heading out in the world, both seeking the same goal!

Personally its the best new series in Weekly Shonen Jump since the conclusion of Naruto's epic story (not to say Boruto isnt just as awesome).

BLack Clover has very high friendship values, epic battles, deep character interactions, stunning landscapes and magic, and awesome dungeons and explorations that cant be found in any other manga currently. The anime adapts this wonderful and carries the same level of feeling that the manga gives me week after week, please check it out.

Asta had not been taught the meaning of "inside voice" from the church I see. I'm sure there's a reason why the protagonist was handed the "ultimate" power with no build up to it though.

Yeah, I'll maybe give it another episode or two but holy shit is Asta's voice one of the worst I've ever heard for a MC. I almost just want to wait for a dub to see if it's any better and I never watch dubs.

I love Nozawa as Goku, she has quite the range for Goku.

This complete newbie they have for Asta isn't necessarily bad, as he's impressively able to match the exact inflection and roll of every yell. It's just whoever is doing the voice direction is absolute shit, he should be given some kind of range and yell like a normal (anime) person.

I mean, he's supposed to be insufferable. That's his entire character, the loud idiot who constantly drives people up the wall.

But just because that's the way it's supposed to be doesn't really make it good. I don't know how long I'll stick with the show. Really enjoy the manga though.

I don't like his voice but nowaza acting is great when you get past the voice and she has a lot of range

Asta voice actor isn't and is just annoying and insufferable

First episode was pretty bad. Seems generic as fuck.

The protagonist's voice was already annoying me less than two minutes in. I honestly don't think I can watch this solely because of that.

Edit: People defending Goku's JP VA, Jesus Christ.

Sorry I couldn't help myself

It's quite common for young shonen heroes (8-16) to be voiced by women. Just, when Goku grew up, they loved her acting so much they just kept her as Goku. Same thing with Krillin, who is also voiced by a woman, and that same VA voices Luffy too.

aslo krilin, naruto, luffy, Gon and Killua, Edward eldric, detective conan, Kenshin and a lot more! it's pretty common for women to voice male characters in japan

Also it's not a girl anymore, she's 80 years old already, goku is a nice grandma!

Asta's va direction really hurts this adaptation. The first episode also not adapting the whole first chapter was a mistake.

Huge fan of the Manga. Even purchased all its volumes. All I could think of when I saw anime is Angry Joe's voice in my head saying "You've done fucked it up". Not sure why would they give a newbie VA his first major role on this show. I hope studio hears feedback and makes changes to the tone of voice.

I know Asta is meant to be insufferable (he's not even endearing), a lot of Shonen protags are. But hoooo boy did they screw this up.
I know Crunchyroll and Funi are pushing this series hard like they did MHA. Both come from Shonen Jump and thus have a pedigree to them. But Asta's voice may hurt it in the long run.

I've gotten used to Nozawa's voice, and she's awesome, and I first saw DB through the dub.
I'm amazed at the fact she's 80 and can still scream like a metal song.

What baffles me are the people that say Linda Young is the definitive Freeza. Ryusei Nakao brings class to the role, and Chris Ayres matches it to a T. I hope Daman Mills can be a suitable replacement when the dub reaches the Universal Survival arc.
