Rumor: SNK working on Neo Geo Battle Coliseum 2 (cell shaded?)

It's kinda interesting how these leakers are going in on NGBC, an IP that hasn't really come up in conversations and interviews much, if at all, since SNK's comeback.

SamSho, Fatal Fury and even Art of Fighting would have been much easier targets to pick on.

I see you've blocked KoF XI and 2003 from your memory :V

Those games didn't really have happy birthdays.

I'd imagine they have at least 3 games in development right now. As for why NGBC may have been picked over SamSho or other SNK fighting game series? Maybe someone came up with a good pitch and they felt like doing a tag team game?

Kinda sad that they removed some of the characters, I thought everyone from the first game would make it in + new ones...
I have a weird relationship with NGBC, it always felt like an unfinished game and that some of the stuff was used later for the console version of XI.

I meant in terms of leakers messing around, the other IPs (which have been mentioned quite a bit here and there by SNK) would have made for much easier targets to screw around with than NGBC.

As for SNK making NGBC2, I do think it would make sense for it to be their next big game since it would very likely sell more than SamSho7 and would also be a great way to promote a lot of their IPs and characters (even more so than KOF probably).

Ah, I see. I agree NGBC2 is a bit out of the blue to start making bs rumors for. I'm about 90% sure this game exists in some capacity.

In my local scene, all the SNK fans seem to dislike NGBC. It makes me curious to know what they think of these rumors.

After the release of 13, the producer of that game said that SNKP really wanted to make NGBC2 so Im honestly not that shocked with the announcement

I mean... why? These aren't sprite rips or sprite mods. They're new 3D characters that have to have everything made from scratch, and new voice actors to work with. Capcom limits it's new roster to 1 or 2 characters with crazy-different animation, body types, and systems (such as with Dhalsim's stretchy limbs, or very few giant sized characters in crossover games), because such characters require more specialization than fairly straight-forward humanoids.

Characters that couldn't even use humanoid animations / bone structure like Mars People, or Mechanical beast that have secondary partners that need their own animations like Cyber Woo, would be the first things to cut / pushed back when trying to make a large roster. ESPECIALLY if you'd rather spend those extra ambitious character slots on the new characters instead.

The Xbox 360 port added new stages, redid the character select and victory artwork, and had more "console friendly" features than most of their other XBLA ports. In the end, it feels more coherent than SCV Chaos to me, at least. The XBLA version gave me a huge appreciation for the game (via online play with people who cared more than I ever did for the game on PS2), and it really feels like a unique experience of it's own.

This rumored NGBC sounds much more like the child of KoF XIII's crazy background easter egg fanservice than even XIV, actually.

Original NGBC, thematically was just a mess. Very few stages were recognizable references, the music was weird and had little to do with the characters at all... it was all themed to look like a hacked mess of SNK content. It was a way to poke fun at MUGEN and pirated games.

This version, though, sounds like a way to give those asking for a new Samsho, Art of Fighting, World Heroes, Aggressors of Dark Combat, Metal Slug, Last Blade, and more, at least a LITTLE bit of the HD 2.5D updates they so desperately would love to see. It's a celebration of SNK beyond what KOF's story will ever allow.

You can play the Last Blade characters in the Last Blade stage with Last Blade music and Last Blade gameplay systems. You might even get to fight the game's last boss with the flagship character, and use an unlockable / bonus character that was hidden in that game! Conceptually, it's a bit nuts.

We KNOW that KoF XV is a goal for them. So there's not much need to include an army of KoF content here. But much of the rest of this don't have a snowballs chance in Green Hell of getting continuations, and this is probably the best way to make something "middle of the road", budget wise, that'll appease a large section of people.

The Idea of SamSho getting the biggest budget, and most focused graphics / new gameplay of their modern releases, is actually exciting. Getting a crazy crossover fanservice fighter along the way that iterates on everything started in XIV, development wise, is just an awesome bonus.

True but at the same time that team got disbanded after XIII and had to be re-built from scratch for XIV. So in a way I see them as separate, especially with how different and more sociable the new SNK has been.

All great points. KOF over the years has very much evolved into its own beast with a heavy reliance on its own stories and original characters (like half or more of XIV's giant cast is made up of original KOF characters).

So with that being taken into account, NGBC does have its own place and can be what KOF initially was. They can promote a ton of their characters, especially from older series, this way and bring them back into the limelight. Like how else could we see Rosa again in a new game? NGBC is also wackier and allows for wackier character choices and play styles (ala Marco from MS).

Also, an interesting point that was brought up elsewhere is that NGBC2 might been a way for the team and/or management to appease the team themselves. Many of SNK's devs have now talked about wanting to work on various series and pitching projects to management. This might have been their way of giving a little to everyone. Devs for Last Blade, Kizuna Encounter, Metal Slug, World Heroes, SamSho etc. all get a shot to work on what they want with this one game.

Balderdash, a pirate that throws energy sharks and ships!!!!!! he was one of the coolest WH characters
If they allowed multiple World Heroes characters, then Captain Kidd and some of the other characters I listed would be fine. Just having one new character World Heroes character is ridiculous though.

I'm not against Captain Kidd BTW.

In a perfect world, we'd have a WHP port on PS4 (PC too?) like we have for Garou, LB2, SS5S, etc.

We'd also get a new WH game with some slightly (but not too) modern design/gameplay aesthetics.

Alos WH2 on SNES would be on the SNES Classic Mini because it was a better game than its original

they didn't revive plenty of franchises when they did NGBC

At the time they were barely getting back on their feet from a pretty rough time in the company's history, and gap in development talent - few people look at efforts prior to NGBC like SvC Chaos or KoF2003 in a positive light, but that game was still a step forward.
IIRC, around that time the focus was also spread out among things like the KoF MI experiments with 3D and some mobile games.

Technically Aggressors and World Heroes had an additional rep in NGBC via Shishioh and Neo Dio.

Shishioh was from the Fu'un games, Kisarah was the only Aggressors rep, unless you count Fuuma too.

Why would they give K and Kula new designs for a crossover fighting game?

Capcom did it with Cammy back in X-Men Vs Street Fighter, and that design later made it to the SFA series, it's not a new thing.

The most puzzling thing about the recent list is the reference to G.Mantle - as the mascot of the NeoGeo, I'd expect him to have a more prominent role, like a boss or secret challenger - hard to imagine him as a regular part of the cast - it'd be like having Segata Sanshiro in a Sega fighting game as a regular part of the cast - welcome, but one gets the feeling the focus should be a bit different. Maybe if he were a solo entry, like the giant characters in Tatsunoko Vs Capcom...

Still, I wonder about the moves he'd get, beyond that rose attack from his KoF2000 striker appearance. Maybe he could summon Enta-chan and Neo Poke-kun in a super or something.

Ah I was referring to the fact that NGBC came out, SNK was sorta still in recovery that there weren't much games from them back then besides KoF and MS, and it didn't really launch the games that were featured then, unless they rereleased them as a collection or something?

And my bad in Shishioh, got a franchise mixup. Aggressors had the guest rep from Fuuma and the guy Kisarah kisses in her super was a character in that game too right?

Wait wait wait, is KING LION returning from the original NGBC? please, tell me yes. I need my Kizuna Encounter revival in HD. With King Lion, Sho, Rosa and Kim I would be there DAY ONE, AT ANY PRICE. Buriki One characters NEEDS to return to the spot too!

Anime aesthetic doesn't sound too hot. I would prefer the old hyper realistic shinkiro-buriki one style, but I can live with it if this characters are in.

Edit:
I'll just listen to this in the meanwhile to contend the hype. Don't dissapoint me SNK!

I'm loving the other addition of Gangan/Agressor of Dark Kombat. Joe is cool

It would be Hilarious if instead of him they choose the blonde-spanish talking Dolph Lundgren guy lol

Maybe the love for ADK characters could extend to Ninja Masters?
