Destiny 2 |OT3| The Token King

Also really?, Waking up and swing no IB weapons, what?

You rebadged all the Faction Rally weapons with Faction insignia from gun models prior, yet can't be asked to create one for each class and throw an IB logo on it and call it a day

So now you won't earn anything at end of a match during IB Loot wise?
Hows that enticing?
If people could earn their gear while playing, then using their tokens and hope RNG rolls in their favor for missing pieces.

Now to see how much winning team gets and losing team
I'm guessing 5 for win, 2 for loss or if they really want to casual it up 10 Win, 5 loss
20 Tokens trade in still.
So 2 wins or 4 losses nets you a package

it's also a question of "How many IB tokens can you earn until you stop gaining them."

it'd be weird to be able to earn the entire IB armor set on the first event. If there are no weapons, then you'd have no reason to play IB ever again.

It’s not just Flashpoint and NF. There’s also a Powerfful engram drop for completing your weekly clan XP contribution, there’s another for completing the Raid, there’s Call to Arms (play 5 PvP games roughly), there’s Trials. All of these will give you 1 powerful weapon AND an armor piece, so leveling up isn’t hard at all once you check them off your list.

Ultimately though, don’t be fooled into thinking the fun in the game is making an arbitrary number move higher. Power level is ultimately inconsequential outside of Prestige activities, also don’t let that get in the way of your fun. If what you like is playing Strikes, then play Strikes! So what if the little meaningless numbers don’t move higher?
The problem here is that I really hate the PVP, and I don't have a team for the raid, I'm also underleveled for the raid at 269.

So for me, who hates PVP and can't raid, there is only flashpoint, nightfall and clan rewards for now, which feels like a dumb roadblock.

It's not necessarily about the numbers going up, It's about being able to get new guns and cool gear. Right now that part of the game is gone for me. "Oh, that gun is awesome, too bad It's 7 power levels lower than the one I have equipped." Same with armor.

I haven't had a raid milestone since the first week the raid was out.

LOL - too rewarding?

They better give me tokens for losing, otherwise, I'm not wasting my time. I normally like to play solo and knock games out - win or lose.

Yep. Everybody is a winner in Destiny 2. You don´t even have to play. You can just show up once a week and collect your clan rewards.

I respect that you like it, but right now this is not what I am looking for in a Destiny game.

It´s obvious that Bungie are obsessed with these people:

kmqQ1rj.png

And don´t care aboute these:

And I get it - the number is bigger. We´ll see how this plays out in the long run.

Maybe Bungie just want to be very inclusive right now to broaden the playerbase and because the game is new and it will get more "hardcore" over time.

I might have lucked out with tokenbot giving me 300s for tokens instead of it being a milestone 🤔 only raided twice so I wouldn’t know.

Freaking loved the raid but real life is being real and I can hardly ever make it when teams are forming

Get on Discord and find one. Your level is perfectly fine for everything but the boss room, but even that shouldn’t be too much of a hurdle.

Right now that part of the game is gone for me. "Oh, that gun is awesome, too bad It's 7 power levels lower than the one I have equipped."

Use it anyway, since it doesn’t lower the level of your drops and there is no benefit for being over levelled and there is no content that requires a level between 240 and 300 if you aren’t raiding.

So wait, is it just speculation or is there an actual confirmation that there are no IB weapons?

They only showed armour in the TWaB as possible rewards and nobody has seen any IB weapons in the API data mining. So set your expectations appropriately.

Just decrypted an Exotic Engram into a Raiden Flux (already dropped 5+ times for me but whatever) which came with a "Class abilities recharge faster when using a Void subclass" mod.

Okay, so the majority of players beat the game - great job Bungie! And 16% interacted (way too little) with Destiny's most interesting content. What's wrong with that?

I am a hardcore player and don't want to dedicate my life to Destiny. I enjoy playing a couple hours a day and getting everything. Why should Destiny be catered to the people that can play 16 hours a day?

The hardcore players can 305x3, collect all of the exotics, collect all of the sets, and hoard materials. How much of that have you done?

Also, the prestige raid is coming - and that's just for the hardcore.

Agreed on the others but I don't see the above being too different from getting the medallions for losing. I know you needed a win to cash them in but you still ended up with gains from losses as you'd inevitably get on a team that could carry even if you sucked.

This trend toward tokens > loot at the end of an activity needs to stop though. They got the chest-bursting-full-of-loot thing from Diablo nailed with strikes and then you pick them up and it's just 12 tokens and some blues. Diablo you're seeing the loot shower and then have the chance of an immediate reward.

There's definite psychology at work with separating the reward from the activity, that I've seen referenced in some article or video recently on – I think – microtransactions and that definitely seems to be the methodology they have with D2.

A shame because it's probably my largest criticism of the game; I much prefer getting the reward from the activity directly.

There's a chance for Legendaries and Exotic Engrams from Strikes. The Eververse medallions buff your XP gain and chance at Legendaries and Exotics as well.

When you think back to the rewards for Heroic Strikes in D1, there really wasn't much difference. Instead of tokens that you can easily measure, there was a Rep meter. You also could play any number of Heroic Strikes and not have anything worthwhile drop. And of course you'd pop 3 of Coins every so often in hopes of an Exotic.

So it's essentially not all that different in terms of rewards for the activity.

I always thought that this "respecting time" thing was a bullshit catchphrase that in the context of video games never made sense (to me).

Year 1 Destiny 1 was Bestiny. I also found it way more rewarding. You did not get meaningless crap all the time - you got NOTHING!

BUT! When you finally did get something (So almost never)...... OH BOY! That was exciting! THAT WAS REWARDING.

If I can choose between getting 100 Monopoly Dollars every day or 100 actual US Dollars a month I´ll go for the latter.

Getting garbage is not rewarding.

Except in D1 it was more like 100 actual US Dollars that you take to the bank and find out is actually counterfeit (I got the Grasp! *Looks at perks* oh... it's one of the shitty ones... *Dismantles*).

That being said, I was never a "Destiny doesn't 'respect my time' " type either. I'm not a young man with a ton of free time anymore, so I'm not into excessive grind. Hell I wasn't a huge fan of it when I *was* a young man with a ton of free time. I never resented it though. I don't resent a system like D2 has either. I'm fine with either.

I play games whose gameplay I enjoy. If I don't enjoy the gameplay, I don't play it. As long as the internal progression systems aren't straight up broken, I'm not overly concerned about it.

So it's basically just Crucible with themed-gear?

I’ve stopped going to rahool and been going to Tyra Karn way better luck. Every time I’ve gone to her it’s something I don’t have that’s decrypted.

I can play 1 or 2 hours a day usually and the game is pretty much dry for me at this point.

I´m talking about vertical progression that is entirely gone in Destiny 2.

Make 305 easily attainable for everybody - fine, but leave some bars in there for me to fill up.

Random rolls - gone.
Grimoire - gone.
Exclusive strike gear - gone.

There are little things that could be done that would not disrupt the playerbase that I would really appreciate.

How about a quest on every exotic - 10.000 kills - BOOM - exclusive ornament. I´d be up for that.

Super cool ship for completing 100 Strikes? Cool shader for 100 Crucible matches?

Right now it´s "Thanks for showing up - here´s all the gear" and I´m not a fan.

Yep. It’s a whole change to things and the hardcore guys don’t know how to handle it. The destiny reddit is a mess right now. Just a lot of people who don’t even know what they want and tons of false memories about D1 when they were complaining about so much stuff then too.

No thanks to random rolls - there was ZERO fun in getting a good gun with shit perks. I agree about the other stuff, though. I like to chase cosmetics.

Hit 289 with my Warlock last night, think it's about time to start a Hunter and Titan.

Has anyone else felt like this game is so stingy with kinetic weapons? Almost every weapon I get from a rank up engram or legendary is an energy or power weapon.

Torn on the random rolls because I personally never cared enough, but I know a lot of people miss them.

But yeah, chasing cosmetics is soooooo gone.

I remember how I was grinding faction levels because I wanted the FWC clown ship, or the DO shaders.

This stuff has to return.

Have you done any exotic weapon quests? Presumably not, if you're 269.

I do think they should put in a heroic strike playlist or something that lets you get good PL items. Not as good as the milestone drops, but better than the standard [unmodded-PL]-5 cap on vendor/drop engrams. If stuff dropped at up to your unmodded-PL, it would still give a softcap for the week, since you'd be limited by the unmodded-PL of your best item.
It's annoying that most of my items are under my current PL, but I can't get better ones because all drops are 5 points lower. I'd like to be able to 'back-fill' some of those.

I just want to point out that my Titan has only ever received 4 exotic armour engrams.
They have been 3 Insurmountable Skullforts and a Hallowfire Heart (which dropped literally an hour after I already bought it from Xur).

Also, despite having 2 characters at about 295PL, I haven't had a single sword drop since 265PL. I must've had about 20 shotguns though.

I am so smart loot.

Holy hell, I've never seen the Destiny subreddit more salty. A lot of it over this line:

DeeJ: My challenge to every Guardian is to look to the human element in Destiny 2 to fuel your appetite for ultimate re-playability.

He's absolutely right. I could quit playing right now, I've got the platinum, have 3x characters at ~305, have a bunch of the exotics. But why would I? I'm having so much fun.

Last night I did the NF with 2 members of my raid crew and we had a blast coordinating taking down Knights and Ogres, blasting anomalies. I love the new Nightfalls. Luke talked about the goal of strategizing and they nailed it. Every week we run the raid and we get better. And we're learning all the roles. Last night I spent time in Gardens with Hawkian giving him some tips for navigating around the dogs for his newbie runs. We weren't even raiding, but we were having fun.

Destiny has always been worst when you're not rewarded for playing. How fun is it to run 3x Nightfalls every week and not get Hawkmoon? How fun is it to be stuck at 5 medallions and be unable to win? How much fun is it to get Gjallarhorn a week before the nerf? How much MORE fun would it be to have Gjally for a full year? Nobody would care about Gjally if it was just rare, people cared because you could blow up the whole goddamn world with it. Remember grinding away at SRL to get a 320 helmet? Blergh. Remember Crimson Suicides to get a 320 ghost? Fuck that.

And here's the thing. Light level has ALWAYS BEEN A SHAM! How different did the game play when you were a fresh 20 at power 208 vs now when you're 305? No different at all. How big a deal was Light really in D1's Iron Banner when everyone was 90-100% of Max Light? No different at all. It's just a number. Don't worry about it.

Destiny has always been best when you have people. I've had the same raid crew for nearly 2 years and it's been fantastic. I realize how blessed I am there (and that not everyone has that). These guys were just randoms that I met here in the OT looking for a raid one December. Same with my Trials team. I found Igor and Ape when they weren't the all-stars they are now and just spent time playing with them. Focused on improving my game and having fun. And I've found more people along the way just being part of DGAF.

Are there things that I'd fix about Destiny 2? Absolutely, but it's in a very good place right now, and I'm really enjoying my time spent with it and my friends.

If I knew this game was gonna turn out like this I wouldn't have bought the digital deluxe version, but I figured "if any game is a certainty for me, it's destiny", boy was I wrong

game is incredibly shallow/hollow

D2 is a huge improvement on D1, but it feels like most of their effort went towards fixing the structure of the game from the insanity and bullshit of D1. Unfortunately, alongside pruning dumb shit like materials grinding and weapon leveling, they also killed loot and all character customization. They also failed to add any repeatable content.

Without all the padding and even most basic customization or character growth, there's not much to keep people around. I hope they open the game back up. Two set loadouts per subclass sucks.

It might be a lot of work on their end but I like the idea of every exotic having an upgrade quest-line (even if its just basic, mundane quest lines). They could push the cap of 305 (or whatever the max is at any given time) to 5 above at 310 and make it so whatever level two exotics, armor and weapon slots, can be upgraded to would even out your total PL at that 310.

I'm enjoying the game. But sometimes i wish it was really just Destiny 1.5
They changed a lot of things that didn't need change. My only hope is that they backtrack some decisions and add more complexity to endgame.

I was doing the call to arms milestone last night. Then it hit me. Both teams were in a doorframe across the map taking pot shots at each other with scout rifles. And i thought "man, this is boring". I hated being instakilled every 10 seconds by a slide shotgunner, or sticky grenades in D1. But it could have been fixed without nuking the whole thing from orbit.

I like the game but often i think it could have been so much better.

Oh well. Me and my clan completed the raid. It seems i underestimated my team. It felt so easy. We only wiped once.

But that would be time investment for power advantage. That would leave people with less time behind.

Just cosmetic stuff is fine IMO.

It would be marginal no?

305 vs 310

I'm one of the guys still sitting at 302 or so and still has only almost finished the raid and still needs to knock out a prestige nightfall. I know I won't be one of the ones that will be maxing out at 310 and I'm fine with people having a slight power advantage over me because really, what does it matter? If I do manage to creep up to 305, it would be nice to know there is still something to work towards in regards to advancing the power of my character. It would be a constant cycle too. You get a new exotic weapon you want to level? Well, you lose some PL until you get it level'd up to where you total out at 310 again.

Cosmetic additions might motivate some but I think even a slight PL upgrade to work towards would be far more motivating and if its slight, why would non-hardcore players like myself complain?

Indeed, and I've been playing HARD since D1 beta. Destiny 2 is a better game than D1 and it will get better.

I ran out and got a PS4 when I saw destiny alpha was coming on E3. I think there was a lot that was broken in the original especially just respecting peoples time(the forever level 29, having to worry about being maxed to even have a chance to play things like IB etc) and the mindless grinding to which people love now because that’s what they had to do back then. ( I remember people crying about how they “earned” xyz exotic when they had NO control over drops lol)

I’ve realized some people for whatever reason feel like they have to be elite in the game or have to feel like they have to pour hours and hours into the game etc and it drives them nuts that the whole playing field is pretty damn balanced, you don’t have to play so much and less X Y Z gun/class is OP.

Now are there some things that should come back definitely but all the changes they made imo are for the better. I want to see what they do with expansions, mods etc before I totally write it off. I’m enjoying myself and is great I really don’t have to mindlessly grind anymore. Game should be pick up and play etc vs a constant fear of missing out.

Honestly I feel like this is what they wanted destiny to be vs what we had previously. But they kind of created a monster based on them making tons of changes etc and then having to totally revamp everything from scratch because of how the old engine was etc. we’ll see but I’m sure people will still be playing either way.

nice post. I agree with a lot of the points here, but the TL;DR is that if you have friends who play the game you'll be okay.

sadly my friends have started dropping the game for all of the reasons that have been constantly listed both here and in the destiny reddit forums. I'm sure I'll follow suit eventually.

really disappointed how they are handing IB and the P.Raid. Going to be even more disappointed if there are no IB weapons, but at this point I really should just start expecting the worst. The plus side is that the armor looks amazing.

I’m with you John. Number chasing ruins the game. People are so caught up on loot bullshit that the forget the whole point of loot is using it, not getting it.

People act like waiting 8 months for a Gjallarhorn to make that moment SO EXCITING makes up for 8 months of playing while feeling left out. I’d much rather not be excited when I get it but actually have fun using it for a longer time.

If I get a sick looking new armor piece and it’s lower Light - why the fuck would I care about light? People are grossly overestimating how important that number is. Being 275 or 285 or 295 or 305 is literally the same damn thing outside Prestige NF. Every enemy will take the same amount of shots to kill.

Best Destiny is when you have nothing left to chase. Like HoW, when every Raid was viable via Etheric Light and so was PvP and so was everything and we had re rolling so everybody ran around with perfect loadouts. What did we do? Everybody had basically everything. You’d run VoG or Skolas not for loot but for fun. You’d play Crucible trains - not hoping for a drop since you had your TLW/Benevolence/BTRD setup perfect - but just for fun.

TTK was a downgrade in every meaningful way outside QoL but by far the biggest issue was enabling this number chasing mentality.

i understand that you want to spend more time grinding with the game, i respect that, but for me, the best thing about Destiny 2 is that you can reach max level without forcing players to play a certain activity, and you can reach max level without wasting so many time of your life grinding and grinding and grinding

i like how simple Destiny 2 is compared to Destiny 1( especially year 1), i don't have time to play games like before anymore

although it would be cool to add VERY FEW items that can only be obtained by completing long challenges like finishing the raid 50 times, or killing 10000 player in the crucible, that would show who has been playing the game for so long

back in the Taken king days, i was 319, i only needed a 320 arm to reach 320( the max level) i kept getting a 319 and below arm for longer than a month, which was frustrating, everything was 320 except the arm, i kept playing and playing until i finally got it and then stopped playing the game for good, now in Destiny 2, all the gear you get are the same level, before this week's reset, i was 304, i just needed a 300 warlock band, and i got 4 warlock bands, all of them are 300 and i added a mod to one of them to get it to 305, you see, you don't get lower gear than what you need like before, you don't have to deal with horrible RNG anymore

Fun fact!

Even though I have played D1 hardcore for 3 years I still have more to do in D1 than in D2 RIGHT NOW.

I have at least 10 quests I never completed, Grimoire score to grind and Shaders/Ships/Emblems/Sparrows I could go after for my collection.

Shaders/Ships/Emblems/Sparrows/Grimoire. Yes quite the superior End-Game :eyes:

Dog Bottom is best end game.

What we thought we were getting: Destiny 1.5
What we got: Destiny 2
What we actually wanted: Destiny 1.2

:D

Destiny 1.2 would be nice. 10 locations to visit. Plus new tower, farm, and Reef. Public events all over the place.

Original tower and weapons gone? That's fine. We got attacked. Cabal are all in our system fucking shit up. Make the old planets harder. Flood them with cabal, since that's the theme. 2 is such a disconnect from 1. :(

of course you have more things to do in a game that has been released 3 years ago and has been supported by 4 expansions and multiple events than a game that has been out for 1 month only

It´s something to do vs. nothing to do.

I take something to do.

I see no correlation tbh. All the things I could do in D1 right now are things that are entirely absent in D2.
