Witcher 3 PS4 patch 1.50 adds Pro support out now

Textures look pretty good on my PS4 m8...

Holy shit that's aggressive DOF.

As some requested here's how the game looks at PS4 equivalent settings on PC at native 4K, plus one downsampled from 4K to 1080p. Also that previously posted pier PRO shot to compare.

Settings used:
Nvidia HairWorks: Off
Number of Background Characters: Low
Shadow Quality: Medium
Terrain Quality: Medium
Water Quality: High
Grass Density: Medium
Texture Quality: High
Foliage Visibility Range: High
Detail Level: Medium
Ambient Occlusion: SSAO
All post-process effects on, except vignetting & sharpen.

And two more at 4K as links:

Seems like your PC shot has the post process AA on and Pro has none. There's a bit of blur on PC shots but also the edges are smoother and the trees look fuller because of it. Also seems to me that the tree draw distance is just slightly higher on Pro compared to PC's setting which is what? high? (look at the trees on the far right in the areas that match up on both PS4 and PC shots, there are some additional trees on PS Pro that block the view of the houses)

Off topic, but I picked it up again and got through the miscarried baby battle. It was a 6 and my current level's a 4.

After many attempted I've finally beat it, but while doing so I finally FELL IN LOVE with this game.

The hair-raising music in section was just ... I can't describe how cool it was. And seeing the baby wiggle while that guy carries it.

Game never clicked with me until this update,
That's the part we all fell in love

Perhaps the PS4pro shot has the "blur" setting off in menu? Which turns off the overworld dof.

No. Downsampling costs literally nothing.

Depends on how it is done. If it's done by a shader rescaling one framebuffer into another then it most certainly doesn't "cost literally nothing" as even though such shader is most likely very simple it will take time to run and it will consume some additional memory for the downsampled framebuffer.

Yes the draw distance differs. I guess I could go deeper into cfgs and do an exact graphic level match but that's not the point here, resolution is. I just dropped in to leave a few native 4K shots for people who want to compare res'.
But you're right about FXAA, it's enabled just like on PS4. Sharpening is disabled though and CA is enabled which on PC is a lot more apparent than on the Pro patch atm, that's problaby why it's smoother.

Anyway here's a more accurately matched 4K shot.
-Disabled DoF, CA & enabled low sharpening and HBAO plus bumped up foliage distance, seems to match quite well now.

The Division is not native 4K on Pro (yes I know the thread here about Pro enhancement says that but it's an error).
No, my thread doesn't say that. It did when the patch came out, based on screenshots provided on GAF. But within a couple weeks I'd found new screenshots and revised it to 1660ti (the temporal injection method is conjectural by me, though some non-CBR reconstruction is certainly being used). This was back in March, and as far as I know my analysis is actually one of the earliest sources for the game not being native 4K. I believe it's still the only source specifying 1660 (though that could be off by a little bit either way).

Well some tech analysers including NXGamer said The Division was Native 4K (besides including improved shadows, reflections, AA and Temporal AA). We don't know for sure what method they used and exactly what res it has exactly like here with The Witcher 3 case:No one is sure yet if it is Geomtery, CBR or Native (not even DF yet).
NXGamer was mistaken. It's pretty certain that The Division is 2950x1660, even if we don't know precisely what method it's using to reconstruct. Similarly, we know for a fact that The Witcher III is 3840x2160--though here, it's almost certainly using CBR to reconstruct. In this case, NXGamer got it right immediately, VG Tech got it right immediately, and so did Digital Foundry. All of them, despite your claims, are sure it's checkerboarded. You can look at any number of screenshots and see the evidence for yourself.

I don't think it's checkerboarded as checkerboarding is usually associated with color reconstruction while TW3's method seem to render color samples in half-4K res and only the geometry is actually reconstructed to a native 4K.

This is not accurate. Here's a surface texture rendered at full 4K resolution, with details a single pixel wide and tall.

Tried this last night on ps4 pro - game still looks amazing. If I squint then maybe I'd say it all looks a little crisper, but I thought it looked stellar pre patch anyway so the difference to me isn't huge.

Still runs fine too, no issues on any of the areas I roamed around in.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't notice much of a difference? Perhaps a slightly cleaner look. Just started playing the game recently, and it was a beautiful looking game before the update.

Cheapest 970 I saw is $280. What CPU are you using?
Ahh, didn't think of CPU. It's a 3570k by the way. Pretty old now, but still does the job for Witcher 3.

I was selling my 780 for $100 at one point. I figured that was what it was worth today (maybe should even be less) but couldn't find a buyer.

Very tiny changes at best outside of the resolution bump. That can make a difference as the game will look sharper\cleaner, but won't really change how the game looks overall graphically. For that you'd need higher settings or mods.

Of course. The patch was tiny compared to what we got this gen and from TW3 before.

Well if nothing else the patch reminded me of the game so I finally bought Blood and Wine. I was really kind of sick of the game by the end (I played through it at launch) so all the inventory/UI changes are confusing to me. Sounds like Blood and Wine is a good adventure though, looking forward to it.

Maybe this has been answered, but does the patch fix the bugged quests from the DLC? It’s what’s keeping me from getting 100% on Hearts of Stone

man when you start staring into the distance on ps4pro you can really tell that the game does not like the extra resolution, i think it's fair to say that the witcher 3 on consoles was not developed with 4k in mind, it almost has a skyward sword-style watercolor effect in a way lol

Any improvements to the base version?
I'm afraid not. The base PS4 version is as optimised as it's ever going to get (and it took them a long time, and a helluva a lot of patches to get there). It runs really well though, nearly locked 30fps (with the only drops being in Novigrad).

As much as I like this patch it's added an ugly depth of field effect that looks like motion blur. Same thing is in Mass Effect on the Pro.

difference is huge.
LOD still lower than minimum setting on PC?

Draw distance is almost always been the most obvious visual deficiency comparing the PC and console versions of open world games even going back into last gen. The CPU is the culprit and the LoD gets ugly in the transition as a result. This would be even more obvious at 4K as it's easier to see things in the distance.

How do I turn on 4k on the ps4pro?

Just play the game with your PS4 Pro display settings set to output 4K and it’s completely automatic. I played a little bit today for the first time since the patch and it’s quite lovely. Not a dramatic change, of course, but incredibly smooth by virtue of being free of any distracting aliasing.

The game crashed once today when loading and then froze while playing a cutscene.

I the game of the year edition and only 1.50 has been installed, the game can't find a newer patch.

Anyone else?

The game menu may say 1.50 but 1.51 should be installed. IIRC it said 1.51 in my download queue but the menu still says 1.50.
