This DSCC email I got last night:

what the fuck. can the people who write these emails just leave politics forever already

Fundraising relies on a bunch of weird tactics, but there's very little of those deeper analytics to figure out who responds to what going on. Tote bags are still an effective tactic with the elderly even if they're a turnoff to most everyone else. As in other things, the elderly are leaders in small-dollar fundraising.

I hate political emails.

ATTN: FRIENDS OF LIBERTY

This is IMPORTANT. As you've no doubt seen in the news recently, "president" Trump has been doing TERRIBLE THINGS ALL OVER. Only YOU can stop these TRAGEDIES with a simple FIVE DOLLAR RE-OCCURRING PAYMENT. Just FIVE DOLLARS a week, that's right FIVE DOLLARS a week, can help us STOP TRUMP'S TYRANNY.

And as an EXTRA BONUS, your FIVE DOLLAR donation will enter you into a drawing TO WIN ONE OF PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SOCKS. Own a piece of America's last great president while HELPING A CAUSE YOU SHOULD CARE ABOUT.

THANK YOU!

- Danny Perthro, president of Citizen's Against Tyrannical Bad People and Bad Things and Caps Lock

They're all the same and they're all instant deletes from me. I especially love the ones that do "BREAKING NEWS ABOUT HEALTHCARE" and then post some story from 2 weeks ago. Those were fun during the ACA repeal stuff back in August.

Does anyone read these and actually decide to donate due to caps lock and hyperbole?

I didn't start getting these until I donated to Hillary. Thanks Hillary.

Problem is with how many people only played the first two and ignored the spin-offs (which are all very much canon). I really hope S-E recognizes how common this was and addresses it in 3 somehow.

They're way of addressing it was to pack up them up into game and resell them again. Please understand

Then they should send them to the elderly and leave me alone. I'm not even 30 goddammit

For the international folks, I have a question for y'all: I remember being overseas and watching CNN International. I recall it being a pretty decent channel, when AJE and BBC were broadcasting stuff I had no interests in. So when I get back to the USA, domestic (TV) CNN seems like a dumpster fire in comparison. So I'm curious if anyone else felt the same here?

It's known that CNN international is ok and CNN US domestic is rubbish.

CNN international is actually pretty good. You can stream it through any CNN app FYI.

Has there been any talk yet about Jerry Brown moving up California's 2020 primary from June to Super Tuesday? That would surely be a big boost for Kamala's prospects. And I guess Garcetti too.

Something something neoliberals shutting out Bernie something favoring establishment candidates

I mean, that’s no problem for me :p But they’re deluding themselves if they think the average gamer is going to plow through all of them in anticipation of 3 and actually understanding what’s going on.

On one hand it’s a valid point that the biggest state in the nation should have a bigger say in the Dem primary, but I recognize that CA being so expensive to campaign in is prohibitive to smaller candidates. But I suppose by Super Tuesday you pretty much have the front runners.

Been funny seeing my Bernie friends who spent the primary season whining about red states going before Cali now concerned that Evil Bitch Hillary v2.0 Kamala might benefit from this. The only fair way to do this is caucuses, obviously. And caucus dates and locations are only to be announced on the Bernie Sanders’ Dank Meme Stash Facebook page.

Obama to campaign for Northam, Dubya headlining a fundraiser for Gillespie. Gee, I wonder who I’d rather have on my side here.

Shit Lizzard with the takes

@CillizzaCNN

Democrats now have a very real Harvey Weinstein problem

@CillizzaCNN

If everyone around Weinstein knew about his behavior, why didn't the D pols who hung around with him?
@CillizzaCNN

They weren't major donors to the GOP like Weinstein is to Dems
@CillizzaCNN
Does Trump's behavior excuse Weinstein's?

And, if Dems rightly condemned Trump, then they also should condemn Weinstein.

Shea Porter not running for reelection. Dem retirement in a competitive seat.

Makes it a good year for her to retire, because both NH seats are competitive in a vacuum, not just with incumbency advantage, so a strong year for Dems is paradoxically a good year for Dems from more marginal districts to retire.

So did Virginia.

Not the people you swear are moving to Virginia that it's worth losing ancestral D voters.

It doesn't exactly help he voted for Bush twice.
Or almost switched his party to be a Republican and was super vocal about the possibility!

Jesus he's the worst.

Good. Shitty campaigner and fundraiser. Good to retire in a good year.

Who are these people you keep talking about? You keep saying "base voters", "ancestral voters". We elected Jim Webb. Center-left technocrat types have been the 3 last Dem governors. Going full-tilt populist in campaigns has never been a thing here, at least not since I've been in High School.

Well it's because I'm right.
Because you believed a stupid leak of an internal showing it's basically tied. The day after a poll was released with him up 13. You don't think they want to scare people into thinking it's close so they keep forking over their money?

You can't say: well, we voted for Bush twice, just like Northam, he fits the state!!!! That is an utterly ridiculous thing to say since much of the D growth has been from people who never voted for Bush in Virginia.

But you know that.

I don't think that's actually a strategy, no. As Crab said, if that was a strategy, it's an utterly ridiculous one. Most polls have had him up by 3-4. That WaPo poll was the obvious outlier.

This thread has a habit of making excuses for potential warning signs and that's what got everyone in trouble last election, myself included.

I guess your funeral, but I'll be making calls for Ralph and trying to convince people to vote for the guy that voted for Bush twice. I suggest you do the same instead of saying "it's all fine!"

I feel like the shift to open race-baiting from Gillespie is what'll save Northam, if anything. That's incredibly tone-deaf after Charlottesville.

It's that time of the month again: U.S. Jobs Dropped By 33,000 In September, Likely Due To Storms
The U.S. economy shed 33,000 jobs in September, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, while unemployment fell to 4.2 percent.

The September payrolls drop broke a nearly seven-year streak of continuous job gains, but economists caution that the drop is likely representing the short-term consequences of bad weather, not a long-term shift in the job market.

Before this report, the economy had added an average of about 175,000 jobs per month; the unemployment rate has been at 4.3 or 4.4 percent since April.

Job growth in September was expected to be lower than usual because of the effects of several devastating hurricanes. Economists did not generally predict an actual decline, but a not-so-stellar report was widely anticipated.

And now you're overcorrecting as a result of it, believing that going full Corbyn is the only way to win an election. Even in a state which keeps rejecting angry white men.

things I've never said for 100, Alex.

Anyways, we nominated a block of wood who voted for Bush twice and whose internals have him tied in an environment where Dems are doing very well. I'm very nervous about this because I see us on the verge of fucking up and all anyone here goes is "it's fine!" or, as you go "he's EXACTLY the type of candidate that always wins!!"

Until he isnt!

Ignore the warning signs at your own peril.

...Is Dubya somehow popular with the R base again?
He became popular again like 2 years after Obama got elected. Remember this?
