Battle Chasers Nightwar |OT| Party Like its 1998!

Just bought this and I've been playing all night. Total bummer Switch version got delayed, it would look BEAUTIFUL on that screen.

That said I'm loving the game so far. The soundtrack especially caught me off guard as I didn't see many people talk of it during early impressions. It's subtle and not very standout, but I love the electronic, almost synthwave, vibe at times. Sewers battle track is the first standout for me so far.

He gets a level 2 break that ups the party's crit by 60% for 2 attacks each. And it gives him an immediate free attack.

He gets an attack that hits 4 times. Whenever he crits on any of these hits, he gets a free hit. If that hit crits, he gets another hit. He can get a maximum of 8 extra hits this way.

He get a perk which stacks a bleed on the enemy whenever he crits.

You can enchant his weapon to debuff the enemy when it lands a critical hit.

He gets several perks which give large crit damage bonuses.

So when you combine all that, he does a CHUNK of damage with a level 2 break and 20 mana, plus the entire party gets buffed in the process.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I just find lvl 2 limit with sworddude underwhelming because it's for 2 turns and not 2 actions... my healer and tank are too busy taunting/blocking and healing so they never get to attack and take use of the crit buff :/

The crit bonus applies to healing too, I believe.

Args 2 more crash yesterday, but didn't lose my savefile, now i don't want to play anymore to fear loosing my progress. This feeling is never fun.

Second dungeon was nice thought ! Can't wait for more difficult stuff !

You'll probably want the level 19 Calibretto weapon (when you get there), the invigorate on it is dam good. Other then that I haven't seen much, bought a few skins and perk books. I bought the top hat no idea what it's for yet.

Perk books! High level perks are expensive. You need every single point you can get.

Thanks a lot guys! Got my eye on that cannon and gonna buy me some perk books! Sitting on 77 coins since I finally met the guy who buys fish. That necklace, "Chains of Sundering", with a 10% chance of a -50% damage debuff looks enticing as well, maybe to combo with a multi-hit attack to make sure it triggers.

Finally beat the Giant (hunt 2 boss name) S
lime
and got my 4th party member. Is there an enchanting fountain, similar to the one in dungeon 2, somewhere around the Stone Coast / or earlier parts I have access to? (Lvl 12, just about to enter J
unktown
) Got some new armor which I want to enchant Restoration on. edit: Hm, maybe I should enchant "Inner Fire" (140 crit chance) instead... Also found out that I can indeed enchant Keen Weapon". Just need to find some 'station' that lets me craft it.

I guess I can do another run at said dungeon and sprint for the enchanting station, but it'd be convenient if there was a closer one.
---------------------------------------------------------
So I'm upgrading the blacksmith and alchemist. People are saying crafting ain't worth it. Would you recommend me to stop buying blacksmith skill books or should I keep at it? Still have some low level gear (e.g. a cannon with "Keen Weapon (~7% crit and some haste) on it. Can upgrade it in exchange for +28 damage, but then Bretto looses that crit chance, which I've come to understand works for his heals.

Following my frenzy train of questions, what is everyone's favorite enchantments? :]
Lanrutcon said:
By the time I had the materials for level 13 gear I was picking up level 16/17 materials. It's a pacing thing.
I noticed you can buy higher level materials from Beastmaster Raha/Blacksmith before they drop, but that might be expensive and redundant.

Keep on rockin!'

When Garrison really gets OP is when you start stacking his AP multiplier perks. It's something like +11% AP per 10 overcharge used for each of them, plus the rank 2 for 60 points invested in a perk tree or whatever it is that gives +18% AP per 10 of charge used, so you're pulling in +40% AP per 10 overcharge. Then you start using Warblade, which can use up to 80 overcharge, and well, you can stop waiting for Burst 2 before you can explode people for overkill XP.

Yea, crafting is shit, to be honest. I'm level 16 and used maybe 1 or 2 crafted gear. Not even gonna bother upgrading smith for 5k gold...

Yeah, hit the difficulty spike in the game. It's this weird gap where you barely make 16 but the game expects you to be 17 and have way better gear. Enemies 1 level higher than me are literally 1 shotting my tank. It's enough that I'll be retiring the game until there's a balance patch.

At this moment, too. Right now doing Legendary Mine on lvl 16. Good exp! Ditched Garrison for the new character. Overall, Garrison sucks as dps imho :(

So the problem you'll find is that the shop stocks level 17 gear, and you can craft level 17 gear, and the death dungeon drops level 17 gear with level 17 enemies.

So if you're not level 17 you're in deep shit. Also, the level 17 hunt for the area hits my tank for 998 damage with a 500 damage aoe stun.

Bretto is a healer, but he really shines at cleaning debuffs. Garrison is great dps.

The death dungeon.

Yeah, Hangman then? It's all about Gully taunting and then sticking with Defend unless she has to taunt again. Callibretto should only be healing or Purifying, but since cast times can sometimes screw you over with when Doom procs, having healing potions that go off instantly is a good idea. Garrison should just DPS through. Group cleansing flasks are a level 9 craft, so get 6-7 of those and Gully and Garrison can cleanse the team throughout the dungeon in case of emergency.

Doom in that situation is supposed to one-shot everyone, but his regular attacks shouldn't be KOing Gully in one go, even if Defend isn't up. Spec her defensive (Guardian tree, Defend II, stamina/armor ups, Quick Healer) except for Initiative in the Avenger tree so she goes first in combat and can get the taunt off immediately. Throw in her shield Dungeon Skill and it should be okay.

Nah, the fire mage sub boss tears me apart and normal enemies deal hideous amounts of damage. My armor is poop :/ lvl 13 stuff. I haven't picked up any better.

Edit: Entering the death dungeon, doing a few fights, grabbing loot, then exiting and resetting seems to be doing the trick. Will reach 17 soon, then I need to craft gear for everyone to hopefully not get smacked around as much.

Oh, hmm. I dunno then. I'm pretty sure there isn't any level 15 gear in the game, but I don't remember him giving me much of a headache compared to the Hangmen.

I don't remember if he comes with minions or if he's a lich-type, but if he does and if he is, lich-types do have an attack that sacrifices their minions to do one-shot level damage. It's a mob type and attack that'll recur throughout the game. So, if that's the case (and that's what one-shot your tank), the solution there is to keep the minions dead so he doesn't have any ammo for that attack.

Basically he does about 170 damage to my entire party every time he has a turn, then he sets everyone on fire for 70 damage a turn and around 250 damage. He has 4k hp, and 2 of my characters have to keep healing and dispelling to keep people up. Second someone drops, you never get a turn with that person again because they burn to death immediately.

Edit: Yeah, leveled to 17. Crafted some purple weapons. My damage output tripled. Even my golem is Wildfiring for over 700.

Edit 2: Jesus, my hitpoints more than doubled. I don't get the stamina system. Suddenly my Gully has 2,700 hp.

I thought Stamine was 1 stamina = 5 HP, it change when you pass another point ?

Third dungeon complete and got another party member. Seems interesting as her basic attacks cause a random debuff (it's great when it stuns). I'd love to try her out in the next dungeon, but I don't want Garrison to lag behind in levels. This idea of non-party members not getting EXP is terrible. =/

There's a catch up mechanic. If someone falls behind they get a LOT more xp than the others until they catch up.

That's nice and all, but you still have to grind them out. Would have been better if non-party characters got EXP. This would have encouraged people to try out different characters.

i very much like the general idea of the game, but execution turns me away ;<
grinding, random quest loot (scrolls), unnecessary world encounters that reset etc
i also hate that i cant select legendary difficulty for dungeons from the start.

ALUcar
siMON

Lol

Have you found
Red Rust
yet? I think i found it in the 1st or 2nd dungeon in a secret puzzle or something... Its unsellable, so im thinking it might be upgradeable to something cool...

I usually swapped party members out for Legendary reruns. Not all three, but having one character who's been through the regular dungeon was generally enough to carry through the run (as long as I wasn't using Knolan). RM is a direct dps swap for Garrison, and Alumon has both the tankiness and heals (and good damage to boot) to swap out for either Gully or Bretto, depending on how you want to spec/use him.

Not ideal, sure, but I enjoyed it and it's nice seeing all of the rooms and building up an excess of mats.

Fuck it, I'm embracing the grind. Next dungeon I got to says it's impossible for me. Guess I need to be around 16-ish. All my characters save one is 13-15.

I actually like it better because it does encourage you to swap out characters so you can level em faster, maybe its just me, but when benched party members didnt get xp in older rpgs, i always had fun taking the benched party out and leveling them up... Thats how it feels here, only its not too grindy because of the catch-up mechanic

If you're talking about Deadwatch, the two other exploration areas in the region help fill the level gap. They're both lower than the dungeon and have fights.

Yeah that's the one. Sucks I gotta grind but everything else about the game is making up for it and then some.

So I wasted some ingredients enchanting gear right before finding upgrades.

*) edit: Nvm, found the Needle Moss from the world map at the Siege Coast, if anyone else is looking.

1) Looking for the Enchanter's Table that lets you enchant Rejuvenation. Thought it was in "Path of Fangs", but this one is Fortitude/Keen Weapon etc. I could have sworn I enchanted Rejuvenation in here last run. Didn't catch much sleep tonight, maybe mixing stuff up.

2) Are the Enchanting Shrines fixed to certain dungeons, or random? (The description of one of the enchanting books said that the recipes for that book could only be made in "The Pit". Didn't see that information on any of the other books though). Now I'm confused about the other Enchanting Tables' spawning mechanisms, (apart from "The Pit" one) as per the above.

Thanks in advance! Sorry again for all the questions :e There's no wiki for this game and not much info online about it, so I come to my trusty Gaffers for excessive questions (you always have the juiciest information, but I acknowledge that I ask way too much)

edit3: So crit chance works in an interesting way in this game. Without perks my Garrison has 9.6% crit. With Crit Rank 1 (+1.05%) + Rank 2 (5.4%) it jumps up to 21.1%. Solid 10 perk point investment :> +Phys/mag defense seems to work way differently - not seeing nearly the same gains.

Not sure if its been posted already but the Battle Chasers complete collection trade (Digital Comics 0-9) is on sale at Comixology.com for $7. Just use the promo code IMAGE17

Havent played it yet but I just picked up the game finally. Plan to start next week after my midterms. Ive heard that theres no easy way to level up all the characters equally if your not constantly rotating or power leveling them. Gunna have a hard time picking my team going in knowing this.

1) Currently looking for Needle Moss. I've checked through the bestiary but can't find it. Anyone know where to get this elusive moss? Thinking it's something that spawns on the table-top-map, maybe, cause I had about 10 before I went crazy on the enchanting.

Dunno about the moss, but most crafting stuff is available on the map, especially in the front half of the game. If not there, it'll be in chests/crates in dungeons, and possibly available to buy depending on how upgraded your shops are.

On a related note, there are certain more rare mats later in the game that you'll want to consider using before you go enchant crazy - frozen hearts, elemental cores off the top of my head. And whenever you get ancient vampire fangs, hold on to at least 3 until you know you're beyond need them, because farming them back up is a pain in the ass.

Oh just wait, you're right on the cusp. If you picked up Caldeus's skull in Deadwatch, you can turn it in at his tomb for
a Red Monika weapon that'll basically one-shot any enemy with her first action for the next ~4+ levels/2 dungeons
, and there's a whole bunch of fun goodies more towards the endgame as well.

Yeah, smoked him pretty easily. Then went on to butcher 3 more optional bosses. I don't use Monika tho, I use the standard crew for healer + tank + dps.

Too be honest it just feels like the game isn't well balanced at all. The difficulty spikes seem like they're there to pad the game out. I'm not sure how the devs expect you to complete the critical path in 15-20 hours if you're forced to do two or more hours of grinding every time you reach a new story dungeon.

It really is just about reaching the next breakpoint for your gear. The level itself is only part of the battle, then you gotta craft yourself some purples and bam. The difficulty went away the moment I aligned my playstyle with the gear curve.

Also, unsure how people are playing without the golem and the kid. Combined they pretty much take any amount of punishment and keep ticking. That one boss I fought did around 3,500 damage to Gully through 70% damage mitigation.

Cheers Burt! I found the moss, as you said, on the map. I'll keep the ingredients you mentioned in mind and treasure them. Really appreciate it!

The optional war golem in the moore. It buffed its attack, then went into some kind of berzerk mode and unleashed a super version of Wildfire with all hits taunted to Gully. She survived with 400 hp left, but she was using Defend 2 (60% less damage) with the passive +10% buff at the time.

yeah actually just alt F4'ed on my second attempt at the slime, it was going even worse than the first one, just completely impossible right now (12 gully, 12 garrison, 11 bretto... congrats to those that did it at that level I suppose lol)
