What's with the lemon-lime lighting on the table at Worlds?

Surely by now WotC would know how to light an event for streaming?

lol they obviously tried some kinda of color correction because when they went back to the booth it looked like LSV and Riley were wearing bright red lipstick.

Not much Ixalan being played... https://twitter.com/SaffronOlive/status/916394988862193666

He isn't counting the lands, but that seems... bad

I wouldnt read too much into the numbers based off the smallest most high stakes tournament of the year only 7 days after the release of the new set. It should be expected that these 24 would play conservative with their deck construction given the stakes. There were a lot more played at the SCG event last week. Surprised at no Hostage Takers after seeing a bunch at the Open last weekend.

Not a single Hostage Taker at worlds either. I think they are like two weeks behind in tech, probably due to the inbred nature of their meta.

There was a time about 18 months ago where white was by far the best color in the format. This is probably the result of it?
As it turns out, being the color of Gideon Ally of Zendikar/Archangel Avacyn/Selfless Spirit/Thraben Inspector/Declaration in Stone was pretty good.

Man I wish there was even a little variation in those monoRed decks

EDIT: Really all of these decks are super samey, more so than I think I recall recently? Unless I'm misremembering

It's a 24 person high stakes tournament. It isn't the place to bring your new brew. There was a lot more variation at the SCG event last weekend.

I won my first FNM last night! (Modern) I did it with Mono Red Goblins. I literally had acouple turn 4 wins.

Is there a difference between Goblin Tribal and 8 Whack, or are those two names for the same deck? I used to play goblins in Modern but it's been a while.

Regardless: congrats!

Standard FNM report

Grixis Tezzerator

ROUND 1: vs. Temur Energy

Game 1: after a slow start from both of us, I resolve Herald of Anguish and control the game.

Game 2: Went to time, no one could close it out.

ROUND 2: vs. BUG Merfolk

Game 1: I resolve Tezzeret, resolve Herald of Anguish, and swing in for death.

Game 2: He resolves Nissa at 3, drops Snek off the top of the deck, and drops Verdurous Gearhulk. Can't beat that.

Game 3: REAL close match, ended up with the final swing of him with a Scarab God + Reanimated Verdurous Gearhulk for exact, except he forgot I had a token maker and blocked the Scarab God. Then I swung on him for 7 lethal in the air for the win. Great game. He also didn't realize that Scarab God tokens can be Fatal Push'd.

ROUND 3: vs. Ramunap Red (I should shut my fuckin' big mouth)

Game 1: He gets to go first, so he smashes me.

Game 2: I go first, I resolve multiple Aetherborn and eventually grind him out with Herald of Anguish.

Game 3: He went first, but I almost stablized.

Alright guys, here's kind of what I came up with on my homebrew RG dino deck. You guys see any fundamental problems or am I on the right track here?

If you can get two more lightning strikes, I would.

I've only got two at the moment. Very obvious to me that it's worth having, but what would I cut to include them if I did get some more. A couple of the Communes?

So, my take so far on Ixalan limited. I'm enjoying it, but it feels rather shallow. Not as bad as a core set, but closer to a core set than any set I can think of since Origins. I feel like, every once in awhile you can get good synergies going, but most of the time, if you just build a decent curve your deck will be solid. The power level, all around, seems flatter, which makes picks a little easier.

The build-arounds, tribal or otherwise, aren't substantial enough (with a few exceptions) to make you want to go in deep on a strategy. Just generic aggro, tempo, control and midrange will get the job done. I'm enjoying the format in spite of it, but a lot of people that I know that draft a lot don't like it.

I am thinking of making this.

Creatures (24)

4 Duskborne Skymarcher
4 Vicious Conquistador
2 Bloodcrazed Paladin
4 Gifted Aetherborn
4 Metallic Mimic
2 Mavren Fein, Dusk Apostle
1 Oketra the True
2 Sanctum Seeker
1 Vona, Butcher of Magan

Spells (9)

4 Fatal Push
2 Walk the Plank
1 Vraska's Contempt
2 Never // Return

Enchantments (4)

4 Legion's Landing

Land (23)

4 Concealed Courtyard
5 Plains
10 Swamp
4 Unclaimed Territory

I wonder if it might be worth sneaking Yahenni in. Add usual Enchantment and Artifact removal in the sideboard like Fragmentize. I actually own most of those cards (including the Mimics and Pushes) which is why i want to make it. I have a single Vona.

played my first Ixalan draft yesterday; went 2-0, 0-2, 1-2

drafted a carnage tyrant as my first card and built a pretty damn fine dinosaur deck, actually, but opponent #2 had a super good pirate deck and opponent #3 was red aggro as well. They both had the red rare 3 damage spells that can be recurred from the graveyard and played it pretty much every game. And I got blown out 1 for 3 twice by opponent #2 by that black -1/-1 & +1/+1 combat tricked, killing my 3/1 dino and producing an unbeatable board state

could have won a few pack if I had won the last game, just a little annoyed because my deck was actually quite good

oh well, I totally deserved it for playing Gruul, the fool I am

Went 3-1 with UW Approach, losing to Sultai Energy. Duress and Negates from their sb is pretty brutal. I'm thinking of simply siding out the Approaches for Torrentals.

My buddy in the final round went for an Hours prize pack and got a Scarab God. The luck these fools have on me lol.

Don't cut Commune. It's one of the best reasons to play Dinosaurs.

If you want more Lightning Strikes, cut some non-dinosaur creatures, like Tinoalli's Knight.

Also, get more Otepec Huntmasters. Giving haste to guys with it is really good, and any ramp helps with the bigger threats in your deck.
