Because i am kinda annoyed that people are complaining about Assassin's Creed Origins chest with random loot that you can buy with in-game currency i just wanted to point out that there is game that is already out for 7 months that has exactly the same thing like Assassin's Creed Origins (merchant who will sell you box with random things in it) and nobody said a thing about it.

I think people are concerned about Assassins Creeed because it’s a series that has a long history of micro transactions, and everyone is expecting that when the game laughed you will be able to buy them with rl money as well.

Horizon didn't have micro-transactions and all the best stuff was readily available outside of these crates.

I don't see any issue with loot boxes if they are bought with in-game currency, and don't impact gameplay enjoyment (i.e., the items you get are realistically procurable in the actual game without exorbitant amounts of time investment required). Is that the way it is in AC:O? In that case, any outrage seems unfair to me.

Assassin's creed had somewhat random rewards from chests before didn't it?

It only becomes a problem when they introduce microtransactions to make you buy the items at random. Random loot tables aren't inherently bad. Witcher 3 tended to give rewards at random from chests, but nobody had serious complaints before because there wasn't a microtransactions option involved

People just don't trust ubisoft to not introduce a paid option for these.

OP have you actually played the game or you trying to be funny? You can only purchase those with in game money.

Am I missing something?

I thought people complained about loot boxes when you can also or only buy them with real money.

Random loot things that you can acquire with in-game currencies have been around for very long.

Retaliatory Sonytoo thread! Classy stuff.

No microtransactions in Horizon, which is what's bothering people in the AC thread.

Platinum Trophy: Learned to Shit While Upright Again.
Horizon trade in the resources you collect while playing or if you really want a certain box, farm said resource
No Real Currency required or even suggested
Shit they would give you so many boxes, it became tiresome opening those fucks if you loved killing the machines

Assassin's Creed uses Gold, I'm guessing ubisoft will let you buy Gold with Real Currency
So yeah, one is not like the other

I bought a few because I was swimming in shards in Horizon. Not once did I see them advertise to buy shard bundles for real world money though. Unless I blanked that out.

Haven't played Horizon yet but it's no excuse. Loot boxes suck.

In Horizon there are no microtransactions. There is stuff similar to lootboxes that comes in different rarities. Sometimes you get them while scavenging enemy camps. Sometimes you get them as rewards from different missions. You can purchase some too. And you can exchange collectibles for them.

You can get materials, some traps that can be easily crafted and some of those chests contain different enhancements for your armour or weapons. Most armour and high quality weapons is bought directly from merchants or a quest rewards. I don't remember getting an enhacement that was actually better than what enemies drop in the whole game.

I remember bandits dropping a shit ton of explosive traps though. It's not totally randomised. It was useful in the sense that inventory is limited but you could carry one hundred of those things with you.

I think he's making a joke there.
I hope.

In a thread as ignorant as this, how are we supposed to know?

Try what?
I was obviously joking if you mind, but i know if i dont put the /s you can't take a joke. Don't be triggered my dear.

Take a look at the OP, it wasn't that obvious. Also 'triggered', really?

Let me know when either game attaches them to real money.

Seriously, let me know ;p But that's not today.

This is the issue for me. Loot boxes that are in-game only have been around forever, the issue is when the random chane of getting stuff is tiny and is used as a means of encouraging players to invest real money into them by means of wearing them out with incredible grind.

I think that is currently also the case for the boxes in ac though. I hate loot boxes with game relevant rewards, but I think the outrage against ac is a bit pre mature until we know more.

I think at least one previous iteration of AC has had MTs so you can't really blame people for assuming the Origins loot boxes are also MTs.

You can't say you were obviously making a joke if people didn't know you were joking.

It doesn't even come across as sounding like a joke.

"Har har, GAF hivemind fanboying over Sony again."

This is like complaining you can purchase items to make yourself stronger using in-game non-MTX resources and calling it P2W.

I mean yeah you can argue with a literal definition, but you know what everyone means.
