DF: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Beta: PS4 Pro Graphics and Frame-Rate Test

DICE returns with another beautiful take on the Star Wars universe. PS4 Pro support starts with a push to a dynamic 1440p in Battlefront 2's beta - though much of gameplay runs lower, at around 1296p in all four modes tested. Tom also details some great news regarding its 60fps performance - which is much improved since the pre-alpha we tested previously.

How does this square with the beta thread full of people saying it looks like shit on PS4 Pro?

HDR implementation seems a bit broken just now as there is no way to balance brightness specifically for it.

Pro vs X will be an interesting face of.

The image quality looks like complete shit on my PS4 pro.

Zero screen space reflections, ridiculous aliasing, foliage and rocks pop-up right in front of your face, flickering shadows.

All that at 1200p? Garbage upgrade.

huh, but that DF video looked legit incredible. What could the problem be?

The pop up of foliage and stuff is very jarring indeed since the maps available aren't so big to begin with, in fact they're very narrow, but I thought it could be due to being an old build. Let's hope those issues are ironed out before release.

I should probably try the beta on PC...

I think It's that film grain effect. I kind of get why it's there, but it seems to make all the other visual flaws worse to me.

Pretty solid nice

Maybe they're playing on a 4k TV and they compare it to their other 30fps games, this game looks great while running at 60fps

I think it looks pretty good on the PS4 Pro, though I wished they'd dial down the effects a little bit. There's too much chromatic aberration and film grain for me. I still think they can get the look they're going for and tone it down a bit.

Looks great on my 55" 4k TV. Even though the resolution isn't the highest, the graphics really make up for that, as it really does look fantastic, while running smoothly, which is the most important thing here.

It's great to see improvements since the last time it was shown, just like the first game improved from Beta to final game.

The image quality and framerate seem fine for me at 1080p on my projector, but something about the game is certainly less striking than something like Battlefield 1 or even BF2015.

Maybe taking out the fucking endless flocks of doves and give us 1800p instead?

I thought it looked ok. That first game had a pop to it that made it look incredible even on the low res XBO version. Hopefully the final game will look better.

Yeah I'm having a difficult time seeing what people are complaining about based on that video; game looks legit gorgeous.

Any chance the graphical inconsistencies are because this is supposedly an older build of the game?

Can't watch the video right now so my apologies if this has been answered in the video but why do they only look at the PS4 Pro version?

I can confirm it looks seriously rough on my 55" 4K TV. Never would've guessed it was over 1080p. Much worse than Battlefield 1. Hope they sort it for launch.

Why is CA such a big deal? I always find it bizarre when people say a game looks like shit because of it. I mean, do you spend your time focusing on fine details in the corner of your screen?

To me, it's simply because games look better and sharper without it. I can't really see any benefit to having CA

Played it on my Xbox One and I thought it looked worse than the first game and BF1 - it's not even the resolution since I'm using a 24" display. It just looks... less appealing or something, can't really tell or something I guess. Looks kinda muddy.

Spawned into the gunship thing on Naboo using my battlepoints and the framerate went to shit. It was stuttery, laggy and felt about 15fps. PS4 Pro.

Isolated incident?

You are talking about vignetting, that's different from Chromatic Aberration which affects the entire image rather than just corner of the screen.
CA makes the entire image fuzzy because there is no fine clarity in the image anywhere. It's a slight distortion in micro scale on its own that adds up considerably to distort the image on a macro level i.e. when looking at the full image.

I don't understand why the PlayStation access team played a version that had full ssr across the board, puddles, weapons etc. yet the beta has none.

Because most games like this one overdo it, it looks terrible when overdone and ruins image quality and clarity, plus it doesn't help in anyway, shape or form. Without CA this game would look even better like most games do.

ummm..what kind of SSR is this? lol

It is a screen space effect because it only came into view once the lightsabre was on screen (and the length of the reflection depended on the length of the sabre visible on screen)

In my opinion to call one of the available modes "4K mode" while it actually runs at max 1440p and most of the time 1296p a little bit misleading!

I'd be in the dick
Surprised this doesn't use checkerboard like BF1 and Andromeda. Thought it would have dynamic checkerboard like BF1 for sure.

I hope we get at least a toggle for the CA and they dial back the vignetting a bit, especially when zooming in. The CA runs counter to Star Wars art style, makes it tough to spot distant enemies, and lessens detail in textures. I usually don't dislike it as much as some people do but it's an awful implementation here. Game would look incredible without it.

Has DICE said anything about HDR support? Would be wonderful here.

I don't quite understand why they call it the "4K mode", when it's nowhere near 4k...

Otherwise great to hear the improvements on performance.
