Marvel Announces Promotion With Arms Manufacturer Northrop Grumman At NYCC

Private Military Contractors (PMC)

What part of that screams mechanic to you? Also, you know soldiers are trained in those things for survival right?

I know a few of them, someone has to fix the tanks dude.

Believe it or not, sometimes there aren’t enough skilled soldiers to go around.

No they aren’t.

Soldiers that operate the vehicles are supposed to be trained on basic tasks but that is stuff like checking and refilling fluids.

The part where that’s literally what they do. Check their job site.

I literally used to do stuff for Vinnell and most of that was providing firefighters to Saudi Arabia.

With the climate of the world today, whoever thought this was a good idea...

Needs to be fired immediately. It's totally in poor taste.

They delayed a Punsiher panel because of a shooting, then to come out any say "Hey, we took a bunch of a PMCs money"...

Come on now.

In case no one reads the article, here's Marvel's PR about the cancellation:

Marvel said:
The activation with Northrop Grumman at New York Comic Con was meant to focus on aerospace technology and exploration in a positive way. However, as the spirit of that intent has not come across, we will not be proceeding with this partnership including this weekend’s event programming. Marvel and Northrop Grumman continue to be committed to elevating, and introducing, STEM to a broad audience.

Because context matters?

Nah, plenty of people in this thread understand that distinction. It was still a terrible move regardless.

Lets be honest, this outrage was because people keeping linking them to the Las Vegas shootings, and people keep doing that because they read the words 'Arms Manufacturer' on the title.

Without that you'll just have a whole lot of jokes about heli-carriers and stealth transport.

Naw I'm not cool with a company that makes movies and comics for kids running propaganda for a fucking defense contractor. What world are you living in where that's cool? What do you think those helicopters and stealth transport are for? They're for murder. Jesus Christ.

LOL Marvel is train wreck. Disney must have acted swiftly, and chopped some heads after this stunt.
I would have loved to have seen how the reactions at Marvel and Disney were with the people who didn't know about this suddenly finding out.

Northrop Grumman is partnered/licensed with the ace combat series as well.

I always remember seeing that logo. Isn't it for military aircraft?

This seems to have gone completely nuts based on a ton of assumptions and misunderstandings. Seems about right for any kind of social media outrage these days.

I agree that marvel definitely shouldn't have partnered with them but how do people feel about nothrop grumman sponsering middle and highschool robotics teams? They were a huge sponsor for my highschool robotics team and many others.

This. What exactly is the objective here?

There's a difference between sponsoring passive, consumable entertainment, and sponsoring STEM activities in a field they're active in.

I don't think so. Yes, this thread would be smaller if the title was different, we can agree on that. But plenty of people would still take offense to this partnership.

The thing is, while NG might not be an arms manufacturer, Marvel understood why pushing the Punisher show right now might be a bad idea. But then they went ahead and promotted a partnership with a defense contractor. Of course this upsets people, no matter what the original intent was.

How can you link this Wikipedia article and still be ignorant as to what they do? Makes no damn sense.

"They're a aeronautic/aerospace company". Okay...they build weapons of war, in their case, bombers and dabble in space tech.Trying to make it sound all politically correct for no reason.

Did you even bother to read the rest of the thread?

I said repeatedly that I wanted to wait and see if it was the civilian side or the military side, and cleared up my confusion as to why people were upset even if it was the civilian side. This is a dumb move from Marvel. I'm fully aware that NG makes arms. They're not a GUN manufacturer.

Oh, they cancelled it. Good.

I'm living in this world, which world are you living in where people don't think military hardware is cool?

And those kids that you've mentioned probably plays more CoD and Battlefield than us combined, and they probably also think those military stuff are cool as hell.

That pandora's box is long opened.

The Punisher thing I can kinda see why, but NG literally had nothing to do with the Las Vegas shootings... Or any other mass shooting... Which is why I personally feel the backlash is misguided.

Probably should had made this really clear from the get go.

Las Vegas was attacked by aircraft bombers?

If you want to be obtusely pedantic then sure. Point being you're in partnership with an arms company over the Secret Empire story (where Captain America and Hydra completely level Las Vegas). That's why there's a link in the first place, but sure, thank god Northup Grumman only makes other weapons instead of guns.

Making this even more hilarious is the fact that they opted for an arms company to promote STEM, instead of...oh idk, the various labs/science-based companies. Hell even NASA would've been a better move.

Good! I was having a lowkey moral quandary about my desire to buy up Star Wars comics because of this. There's enough military spending that I am forced to indirectly contribute to, I wasn't sure if I wanted to choose to throw my money that way as well

Perlmutter puts me off, so I've been doing a soft-boycott of Marvel. Like, I'll still buy some stuff, but I refused to buy anything SE related, & when I was deciding if I was getting too many books, I'd put the Marvel stuff back first.

http://www.cbr.com/quesada-comments-on-abandoned-marvelnorthrop-grumman-deal/

During his “Cup O’ Joe” panel at New York Comic Con, Quesada was asked by a fan to comment on the controversial partnership between Marvel and Northrop Grumman. According to Quesada, he was made aware of the partnership when everyone else was and he feels the proper steps have since been taken to rectify the issue. “I’ll be honest with you, I saw it for the first time as you guys,” he said. “I think there were some messaging issues. It was really about science and education.”

Are people so dense that they think "science and education" when they hear of an arms company...? Jeez. There are far better choices if they actually took proper care of the messaging.

Pretty much. NG actually does some really cool things not involving murder... Optics we're awful, though. Should have announced more to start, but the promotional material looked shitty anyways.

Wake up Sheeple, your boring insistence that Obama is not a lizardman from Atlantis is wearing on my patience 💤
Funny considering the plot of the Iron Man character.

Why not NASA, Space X, Blue Origin etc?

I love how the 2nd tweet has more Likes.

Just like how it was about "ethics in games journalism, right?"

Ever heard of the Twitter Ratio?

Basically, if the amount of replies to your tweet vastly outnumbers both likes and retweets, then you posted a shitty tweet that people hate. Typically, people mostly reply to criticize.
