Do you ask your partner about STDs before having sex or just use a condom and go?

I wonder how many people get checked up every 3-6 months or whatever it is and actually exchange paperwork with their partners before having sex?

It seems like most people probably just put on a condom a go, right?

A lot of posting seem concerned with others knowingly spreading infections, but I'm pretty sure that most STDs come from people who don't even know they have them.

So I'm wondering how often do you check your status and have that conversation with the people you intend to have sex with beforehand? Or do you leave it up to the other person to know their status and bring it up only if they know they have something?

Does anyone get checked up with their partner before every new sexual relationship?

No idea if I have any. Me and my gf don't use condoms (which is irresponsible, but they make me numb :/), but she is my first partner. Dunno her status either but I know she's slept with others before me. Haven't had any issues though so I assume she's clean. Should probably both be checked sooner rather than later though.

Condom. Always.

1- I dont trust someone easily
2- They can have and dont know
3- Their test can be outdated or didnt do the 6 months later test

Asking doesn't mean shit if you're randomly hooking up. People will lie. But if you know them, or even have a relationship with them, then you can probably get their "status" on this subject.

So to summarize, that's why STD's still run rampant : P

I've had seriously one woman in life ask me to get checked up before having sex. Other than that, it's just been use a condom and go. Obviously with head, condoms are very rarely used

Does asking really matters? Just think about how easy it is to say that they are tested and negative. Unless they provide medical documents proving their status, I wouldn't believe anyone. Oh, I also would like to note that STD take weeks if not months to show up on a test. Particularly HIV and Hep B. The latter show very strong acute symptoms in adults, where HIV could have no symptoms to mild flu like symptoms.

Rule of thumb is to always use condoms unless it's a long term relationship or marriage where there is established trust. You hate condoms? You are playing with fire, and you are fully responsible if you become positive with something nasty. It's that simple.

That's why I also asked how often people get checked out with new partners?

Also, condoms don't really prevent everything. They only cover the shaft of the penis, the other exposed skin could pass diseases.

The best way to avoid stds really is not having sex at all

I don't have causal sex, and am always in a relationship with those I have sex with (or will be soon). The topic of STD's has always come up long beforehand.

I'm sure if I did have casual sex, I'd ask. It's one sentance, and can't hurt. If they want to get upset, they're not really the type of person I'd want to be around anyhow.

Regardless, I always wear a condom.

You only live once, and life's too short to spend it actively making sex worse.

But if you're irresponsible with sex, you could be a bioweapon making other people's lives worse.

I exchanged literal paperwork with my partner a few times for the first 6 months of our relationship.

True, but it still significantly limits transmission even with std that could transfer through skin. Sex is always risky, and it's why you should be picky.

If I wasn't in a committed relationship it would be always condom. Or a new relationship would be condom until they got checked. But been with the same person for 5 years so no.

I was a needle user so I made sure I got tested for a wide range of things. I'm open and honest about my past with my GF so I told her that I got checked. I would feel really bad if I had something and infected another person.

Ask. Even if there isn't always a smooth way ask, and it sometimes can be awkward ask. I always ask. I usually bring up my recent clean test results.

Also use a condom too.

Condom always, regardless of any situation.
but to be fair I've only had 3 partners in my life.
