Crapppppp. 95 exits. Effffffff idk which I'm missing.

Try:
- Regular exits for all the Star Road levels
- Forest Ghost House
- Valley Ghost House
- Make sure every "red" level has two dots coming out of it.

You're so close! You can do this!

There are two exits to forest ghost house correct?

Holy shit, if this is real it’s for sure the rarest SMW box art

- PAL box art for SMW => rare
- PAL yellow box art for SMW => very rare
- Late cycle style NCL PAL layout => super rare
- SCN / Bergsala only => ultra rare

I mean, I worked for Bergsala and I don’t even remember ever seeing this.

Any suggestions on the best way for someone to get gomba that's never tried any of the game breaking stuff?

Haha, thanks. I keep the CRT for my SNES, PS2, and Wii. I've got a lot on VC.

Interesting thing about beating Bowser's Castle using the glitch is that you can go back in and use pause and select to exit whenever you want. I turned the Wii off after I did it. I might do it again and see if it sticks on the save file.

This was the perfect game to break in the SNES Classic with! This game was one of the highlights of my childhood, and I've always had very fond memories of it. Admittedly, it's been quite a long time since I've actually gone back and played it. All the magic and excitement that I remember from back then is still present now - and I think that after growing so much over the years and becoming more in tune with the art of gaming, I actually appreciate the game more now than I did before. There is so many things done right in this game, it's truly in a defining title. It's kinda funny how even after all this years, I still get so psyched out over Mondo. It's a simple level design on paper, but getting to play through it is soo much fun. It's levels like that (and games like this) that prove Nintendo has mastered the art of execution.

General site note: There are quite a few games on the SNES Classic that I never actually got to play. They were kinda making me debate whether or not to get a SNES, but this thread was the final push that I needed. I think it'll be fun not only getting to share my love for familiar titles with you guys, but also getting to try something new and seeing active impressions while I'm playing through them. Plus, having goals to keep in mind will help make sure that I get the most out of each game!

Post clear post;

Been years since I did a full clear of the game, and it is one of the games that I've intentionally not replayed because of how many times I've fully beat it. Can honestly say that I don't have a favorite level and it is more of a full experience kind of thing. Could never decide if I liked World or 3 more, but probably 3 because it was a bigger part of my childhood. I really really really loved the world maps of 3 and World and hated it when they started changing to the simplified straight lines after World. One of the reasons I love Mario WiiU so much. Also love how the secrets work, and am not a fan of the full collectable mode of secrets in the more recent games. Sure you could try for all the dragon coins in World if you wanted to for funsies but it was for the personal challenge and didn't trigger my ocd need to do it like in the modern games where it is tracked more heavily and tied to completion.

Being a turbo nerd I was super into the deepest lore, and not even in a joking kind of way. Thus I loved the call backs and crashed airship. Game was magical for me and was an original white whale kind of thing, where I could only play it at friends houses/other peoples/limited play time at group homes and what not because of other circumstances in my life. A used SNES, this game, and SMRPG where the first video games I bought (from a Funcoland, RIP) with my own moneys from mowing lawns when I started doing that after a bunch of personal issues cleared up in my childhood.
Followed shortly by a PS1 and FF7 with no money for a memory card.
It was great to have a reason to fully clear it again.

I forgot how painful Tubular was. On a plus note, this challenge has given me a great excuse to play Super Mario World with my nine year old for the first time. He loves Super Mario Maker on the Wii U, but has only played Mario games from New Super Mario Bros on the Wii on. After playing for a little while last night, he said "This game is awesome!"

The kids are alright.

question i've never really thought about before just now:

what is the game design purpose of not allowing you to ride yoshi into a castle or haunted house?

interiors. yoshi lets you jump higher, do more combat interactions. ghost houses are navigational puzzles where movement with yoshi is a hindrance, castles are tight spaces where his movement is a hindrance, enemy encounters are supposed to pose more of a challenge. also, yoshi is fucking scared of lava and boos.

last one is head-canon.

good answer!

it's odd that they wouldn't just let the player figure this out for themselves though. there are definitely times in levels when you jump off yoshi because you realize the situation depends on it (climbing vines, eg)

I've been looking for a post Trails of Cold Steel thing to do, and this Classic club looks like a good palate cleanser. I'll be doing most of my playing on my SNES9x emulator with a Logitech controller. No Savestates or turbo here. I MAY use my Wii's Virtual Console at some point.

I 96 cleared this game for the first time a year or two ago after a youth of just Star Road-ing to Bowser. Glad to see I could do it again. I did need a guide for Valley of Bowser 2 though to find the secret exit. It's a toughie.

ALSO:

I want to encourage anyone doing this goal to do it the intended way--the last four levels you beat are the four switch palaces. :D

No picture proof, but Cyan's challenge was accepted and completed. No Switch Palace aid happened in this run. It wasn't so bad with jumps, but it did make a few hidden exits a little harder to get, and you get less resources in some stages, especially in some of the castles and fortresses.

Tubular took me 14 tries.

Completed the main game! Been a long time since I last played and finished this. Gotta be around 12 years or so.

Only done the main levels so far. Not sure if I'm going to go for all exits as I'm rather busy these days, but we'll see!

Hell yeah that counts, haha. I love the CRT and the shaky cell phone video.

I've been meaning to ask. Have you have the entire challenge list setup for all 21 games?

In regards for Mega Man X and Super Metroid.

Have considered the idea of a No Armor / No Heart Tank Upgrade or Buster Only (i.e no special weapons allowed) for Mega Man X.

Although to be honest since the concept of the challenge is based on Scout's honor and all that I think with no armor challenge and the low starting health as visible in a taken screencap upon defeating Sigma is something that can easily proven.

As for Super Metroid. I guess the typical 100% Items and low time completion is something to consider? Or is your entire challenge list already considered?

I didn't see the Cyan challenge until I beat the Yellow and Green Switch Palaces, but I won't get the last two I guess.

About half of them -- I need to get up to speed for a handful of other games to get a good sense of what's viable. I originally had planned, for example, to have a low% completion in DKC, but the ROM used on the SNES Classic does not allow it.

I had considered this, yeah -- this kind of thing is likely to be a second or third goal. I'm not 100% sure on MMX yet but this is the kind of thing I'm thinking about.

100% completion + low time is almost certainly going to be the second goal for Metroid. The first goal is "Save the Animals". I need to look into what a viable third goal will be based on which glitches, if any, are possible.

This thread is torture.

Got a snes mini for me somewhere in the basement wrapped up for damn Christmas until I can join the fun >.<

Check that you've got:
- The regular exit for every star level
- Donut Ghost House exit to Top Secret
- Forest Ghost House
- Valley Ghost House
I'm thinking it might be a regular exit, because I made sure to get all the ghost houses and got everything on the map unlocked. This is Mario 64 119 stars all over again lol.

Donut Secret House's second exit was my 96th. Which is sad, because it's one of the more memorable secret exits. Somehow it slipped my mind that there was suppose to be a path between the Secret House and Star Road, so I kept looking over my maps thinking they all looked fine.. even that little star stuck between mountains, with no way to access it.. yup, totally normal.

Also make sure you have beaten the two secret levels that are viewable in valley of bowser.

...but you can check your progress for every level in Mario 64
Yeah I know lol. No star was empty, I had 100+ coins on every level, I still don't understand that one after all these years.

Gonna try again tomorrow, don't want to use a guide, but don't want to replay the entire game for one exit either. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

The orb glitch tutorials I found are misleading.

Don't kill/eat the piranha plant. You need everything alive when yoshi eats the null sprite.

Holy shit dude where was this post an hour ago? First try after I read this I got it. I thought I was going crazy.

What's the easiest way to post the screenshot?

I actually did it! When I finished it days ago I thought I can't be bothered finding all exits, but then I thought I'll give it a try, and man, I felt like I was playing a new game and discovered I missed out on a lot for 2 decades! So glad I did this.

Special thanks for the challenge as it made me realise I never truly finished this games before, even though I thought I did many times.

Try the secret exit in Forest of Illusion 1. There's a chance you missed it if you did the Forest Ghost House first since those two exits overlap each other on the map.

Been whacking away at this for the last few days. This is one of my all time favorite games and until this playthrough I've never been to the Star Road myself and I didn't even know about the special stages and what beating them does to the game.

I think I did this too quickly, waiting for SPO to start is sucking. It could also be because I'm starting a new career right away and my time is going to be non-existent :/

Why not play through one of the RPGs? It'll take a bunch of time, and you know at least the two main goals will be completion related.

First time ever completely finishing the game since I was first introduced to it in 1995. Had it not been for some feather/flying cheese, I probably wouldn't have gotten past some of the star road levels.
