SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Okay, so I dumped my kernel, installed custom kernel, installed Retroarch, and anytime that I try to sync, I get this

Tried nearly everything to remedy it. Nothing works. Also, "install driver" gives me this

I got this because i was not using the default usb cable that came with the snes.

I had this too. Just turn on your snes mini witout holding reset.
Was that with or without the Retroarch modules? I can't get it to detect my SNES Mini by just plugging it in and turning the power button on after flashing to a custom kernel and then installing the Retroarch modules.

I haven't done so (thankfully), but if something hiccups and you brick your Classic, can you fix it as long as you have the original kernel dumped?

Maybe flash the original and then just start over?

Once it's custom, you should be able to just turn it on when you plug it into the PC

Yep

I had this by holding the reset button too long on power up.
- if you hold it long enough that windows detects new hardware and you get that "detected new hardware" chime, its too long. Like, let go of reet a fraction of a second after turning power on

This is dumb, I've flashed back and forth between original and custom several times, and it's never allowed me to sync games. I give up.

Sorry i wasnt clear. 62 per page/folder. Save states use the space left over from the ROMs, so it depends on how big your games are.

I see, thanks.
Considering I will be added exactly 21 more games for 42 total, I imagine there will be plenty of space left for savestates and no folders needed.
Though I read that the small icons on the bottom only go up to, what was it...31 total before it runs off the screen? So I guess I will have to shrink them a little.

I've not yet modded mine yet because I wanted to wait a week or two after the mod released for any last minute bugs to get worked out, so I'm just planning my attack now. I'll probably get it done around the 15th.

The only other thing I'm considering is getting Super Gameboy on there through retroarch but I'm not decided yet.

And it plays zipped roms? How many can you fit in 300MB? (approx)

My ROMs vary between a little under 1MB to 3MB (zipped). YMMV. The base install takes up some room, so you have 250MB free. The free space you have left over is used for suspend points and saves. So it's a balancing act.

What problems are people having with running Seiken Detsetu 3?

The Hi-Res mode is not working with the built-in emulator so certain texts will be appear blurry in the menu.

Only a select few games take advantage of the Hi-Res mode. Notably Secret of Mana and Kirby's Dreamland 3.

The built-in version of the SNES Classic emulator is doing some sort pre-patch to make Secret of Mana display in the proper Hi-Res mode so the text isn't blurry.

Any other Hi-Res mode enabled games won't work like this and thus the text is blurry in Seiken Densetsu 3 when added to the library.

Using Retroarch is a work around because it displays the game text properly but some folks say the game has slowdowns and performance issues via Retroarch, so I guess it's narrowed down to playing an RPG with some slowdowns or play an RPG with blurry text.

If the modders could figure out how the SNES Classic is loading the Hi-Res mode for the built-in version of Secret of Mana and we could apply this fix to SD3 and Kirby 3, then we wouldn't need to use Retroarch as a workaround for those games.

Fair enough. I'll take blurry text over slowdown any day. Thanks for the info!

I didn't like how my previous DQIII Reprise box art turned out, so I re-did it with a better source art.

Same like the others can be found in my album.

For for comparison sake, which one do you guys like better?

New One
The New One would be terrific except the golden border is cut off on the right!

Whoa I only read about using the cable that came with the Mini now, I just used the one dangling from my PC. No issues thankfully.

One quick (maybe already adressed) question, is there a way to change the resolution in retroarch ?
Somehow i am under the impression that it is bigger that the stock emulator and i want to uniformize everything

The Hi-Res mode issue is the only thing I am crossing my fingers for that someone is able to figure out how to trigger in Canoe.
SD3 does indeed have slowdown/audio issues via Retroarch.

New One

I'd say new one if you fix the cropping of the border on the right side, and remove the Japanese text (since it looks odd to me being there if it's supposed to pretend to be a US game).

This was already asked but I didn't see a response. Does the SNES classic natively support NES games or do I have to load them through Retroarch?

Random formatting question:

Is there any way to make games like The Legend of the Mystical Ninja appear in the "L" spot in alphabetical order instead of the "T" spot without changing the display name to "Legend of the Mystical Ninja, The"?

Edit the Title in Hakchi2. That’s all I could figure out so far to remedy the issue.

I had to do that for Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Changed to Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back so it appears before Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

How are Treasure of the Rudras and Terranigma in Retroarch?

So you got rid of the "The"? I'd prefer not to do that but I suppose it is a workaround.
