Being wary of the opinions of an outlet because you found a review or two you personally disagree with is pretty silly. Duder.
To participate in this strange derail: Skyward Sword was a 10/10 imo.
But really, a bit curious about their Samus Returns review. I have my idea of the game but don't really know how I'd append a score to it. It clearly wouldn't be a 6 in my mind. Probably an 8 something, but curious what their critique of it is.

Still not making sense, but that's fine.
I personally wouldn't score it that highly, but it was a pretty great game. It did some things I didn't particularly care for, but Nintendo took some risks, which I appreciated.

I mean, I'd honestly rather not. I was simply stating my opinion about a review, which was followed by saying that I believe that Super Mario Odyssey will probably be my GOTY.

In 2006, an 8.8 was enough to flip out over

Editing a post doesn't mean I'm upset. I edit my posts frequently, mainly due to grammatical errors, sometimes to add in a line or two in order to expand on my point.
Someone disagreeing with your stance on something doesn't mean they're upset.

That's the one game that reaaaallly sticks out to me. Loved the editor SO MUCH, but playing the actual levels? Ehhhhhhh. Even the dev-designed ones bored me to tears.

Where in my post does it say that I don't trust them? Let me clarify since it's so offensive to many of you.
If I weren't going to trust them, it would be because of Skyward Sword getting a perfect score. I've been a huge fan of Zelda since I was a kid and SS is still the only one that I can't bear to complete. Yes, I know that the person who wrote it probably isn't the same person who gave Mario a 10/10. No, I don't mistrust an entire publication because I don't think that Skyward Sword is a perfect game.
Not according to Metacritic it isn't.
You're absolutely right, but calling someone's life "sad" because they disagree with a game getting a perfect score comes off as being upset.

Mario time!
Well, I'm excited for Mario. I've said this before on GAF, but I'm more of a casual fan and Mario usually sneaks up on me, gives me a ton of enjoyment, and then sinks to the bottom of my mind. It isn't entirely fair .
But...a) Nintendo is so exciting lately. The Wii U was a lethargic console--a good one but under a sort of malaise and with a sluggish release schedule--and that was the center of EPD last generation for me (3DS is mostly an IS and third party console machine to me). And b) Odyssey looks very very good. I want it very badly.

Not that I have a stake in this, but personally I only see reviews as avenues of thinking, regardless whether they should align to your thoughts or not. As long as they make you think, it's fine. I agree with what sfdebris says in that reviews feel empty if they're only meant to vindicate a personal thinking or to get an emotional fix which sadly many people in GAF do and you end up with many a yes-man.

Yeah it's hilarious they keep bringing up SS when LBP is the one that sticks out the most. I guess they'll stay mad while I laugh.
Of course I don't agree with their list, but it doesn't invalidate Odyssey's 10. I've been super hyped for this game from the beginning and I said it would score 95+. I didn't need Edge to tell me that.

As for the actual topic, it's a bit surprising to see EDGE give another 10 so soon. If this game somehow delivers on its hype as well as BotW did, I'm not sure I'll know what to do with myself. BotW pre-release hype had this magical feeling that I don't normally get more than once a generation, if at all... Yet here Odyssey is, looking to be just as fantastic if not better, half a year later.

GTA IV is pretty dubious, but everyone drank the kool-aid on that one.
It's kind of funny talking about how it's okay to disagree with reviews, but also holding a particular magazines review history up as evidence that their scores are more valuable than other sources. Is there a process that Edge uses to determine what gets a 10? Like is it just the decision of an individual reviewer, or are the editorial staff involved?
I think their list of 10's and should have been 10's is pretty solid.

I wasn't literally calling your life "sad". I don't know you. I was making a point. A point that had little to do with disagreeing with a review and a lot to do with questioning an outlet because they don't share the same opinions you do on everything.
But you know what? I can see how my post could come off as pretty mean spirited, so I apologize. You clarified your statement, so fair enough. One thing I recommend though is to not focus so much on one or two reviews you disagree with and instead look at the bigger picture. These threads would foster a lot more interesting conversation if users stopped trying to discredit a publication because of that one review they disagreed with from 5+ years ago (in fairness, you've since clarified that's not what you were trying to do).
So yeah, now we can all move forward. yay!

I apologize as well. I really wasn't trying to focus on the review and my post wasn't like, 100% serious. It was just a passing remark, honestly. This whole derail was pretty silly lol.

I think that what has me the most excited about Odyssey isn't what we've been shown, but what we won't see until we play it ourselves. I don't think any of us expected
when we played Breath of the Wild, but we got it. Actually, I hope we get something similar in Mario - maybe just a huge level that really puts your platforming skills to the test.
