In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, new exclusive Z-Moves make their debut for Solgaleo and Lunala—Searing Sunraze Smash and Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom.

There is one other Pokémon that can learn Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam, the moves needed to unleash these extremely powerful Z-Moves—Necrozma.

That's right—a Necrozma that knows Sunsteel Strike or Moongeist Beam will be able to unleash Searing Sunraze Smash or Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom.

It seems there is even greater power still lurking within Necrozma, as well. Just how much power lies hidden within it?

Searing Sunraze Smash Z-Move

Searing Sunraze Smash is a new Steel-type Z-Move that can be used if you have a Solgaleo that knows Sunsteel Strike hold the exclusive Z-Crystal Solganium Z. This attack damages a target while ignoring any effects of the target's Ability. A Searing Sunraze Smash from Solgaleo will be extremely powerful!

Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom Z-Move

Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom is a new Ghost-type Z-Move that can be used if you have a Lunala that knows Moongeist Beam hold the exclusive Z-Crystal Lunalium Z. This attack also damages a target while ignoring any effects of the target's Ability. The Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom that Lunala unleashes boasts tremendous power!

A Powered-Up Rotom Dex!

The Rotom Dex is a special item. It's a Pokédex—a tool that records information about the Pokémon that you find and catch during your adventures—but with a Rotom inside! (Rotom is a Pokémon that is able to enter various electronic appliances.)

In your adventures in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, you'll grow closer to Rotom the more you communicate with it, and as you do, it will come to help you even more in your journey. Rotom's personality will change based on how you communicate with it. Perhaps the Rotom that joins you on your adventure will come to act a bit like you!

Deepen your bonds with Rotom as you travel around the world of Alola! It'll make your adventure more lively and support you on your way!

Introducing Roto Loto

Roto Loto is a feature that lets you get items from your Rotom Dex as you get closer to Rotom. These special items that you get from your Rotom Dex's Roto Loto come in different varieties, with some increasing the Exp. Points or prize money that you receive for a set period of time, while others might make it easier to catch Pokémon or have other effects. You may choose to use these Rotom Powers from your Bag whenever you'd like!

Use Z-Moves Again with Rotom's Z-Power

If you become close enough with Rotom, it'll use a special power for you called Rotom's Z-Power! This lets you use a second Z-Move in battle, even though you're normally limited to using only one Z-Move per battle!

Seems like O-Powers from XY are back via Rotom. And uh, Z moves. Neat.

It's the first mainline Pokemon game that I have absolutely no interest in. :(
Honestly, I'm not really feeling the hype here. I don't doubt the game's likely quality, I'm sure it'll be a great game. It's just that, even compared to other third-versions, I'm not that pumped for US/UM. Hopefully it ends up being like B2/W2 & manages to become one of my favorites. I guess the fact that my 3DS has seen better days could be the reason for my lowered hype.

That said, I am interested to see how exactly the Rotom stuff will impact the experience, especially if O-Powers are coming back via Rotom.

Since I never played Sun and Moon I am slightly interested in this only because they improved some aspects of Sun and Moon that I did not really like.

These just sound like bad, convoluted additions. I get the feeling the dev team isn’t really into this, and the majority of effort is going into Pokemon Switch.

The enhancements seem fine for a 3rd version, aside from no new battle facility so far, but GameFreak seems to be expecting people to forget that Black & White 2 existed, and I'm not sure that will happen.

The only new things are doubling down on this gen's gimmick? Yup, still zero interest. Might be the first mainline Pokémon I skip.

Are 3rd versions considered mainline tho?

I never bought Crystal, Emerald or Platinum. I did buy Black and White 2.

Yes they are? Mainline for me are all the Red/Blue + Yellow combos. Mistery Dungeon and the bajillion spin-offs I can ignore with ease.

Seems so boring to me. I am usually always in on the "3rd" version mainly for new egg moves and tutor moves but this just seems really lame so far. I'm getting it though.

Yup. The official term is "core games".

Interesting fact: while they are widely considered as mainline games, inside Game Freak they refer to the "main" Pokemon titles as the start of a new Gen. So there have been only 7 main Pokemon games.

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
More interactivity with Rotom Dex is a good thing.

I was very disappointed how canned his dialogue was in Sun and Moon. I legit love the character in the Sun and Moon anime, he's pretty fun and kind of a throwback to when "Dexter" used to have a personality in the first couple of episodes.

It's not an OMG I HAVE TO BUY THIS addition, but it's one complaint I'm glad was addressed.

The Rotom Lottery has me legit excited for this game finally. O-Powers rocked in Gen 6.

I am curious how it's going to work, though. The process appears to be randomized, but the powers all stack in your inventory, so you can accumulate a lot of them. So the question is, is there just a cooldown before you can roll for a new power?

True light form confirmed

Not really but I never had any doubts, it was pretty blatant from the start

There didn't seem to be a timer indicator in the selection menu.
Perhaps you roll for an additional new power each time you level up your bond with Rotom?

Nintendo of Europe refer to them as Main Adventure on the e-Shop.

Should I start giving up hope on more Alolan forms? :(

There's still time till the game release date.

Is it really though? I found him to be annoying on the bottom screen and just wish that I could disable him.

Though at least the new features are optional and has some benefit.

Nice of them to bring back O Powers in some form, even though they really shouldn't have been removed to begin with.

I expected a bit more for in terms of mid October reveals. B2/W2 revealed content like the Pokemon World Tournament around a month before launch.

Rotomdex is the biggest missed opportunity. A talking Pokemon with you at all times and all it offers is mild flavor text. A guess a Z-move for it is something.

During the shots of the legendaries using their z-moves, the wild Pokemon they're attacking are in the high 60s. I read elsewhere that the highest level wild Pokemon in SM was 59, so that's a decent jump. Between that and the Rotom experience power, hopefully grinding will be a bit easier.

Wouldn't say those were actual wild Pokemon. They just chose Gigalith/Mimikyu to show the Z-Moves bypassing Sturdy/Disguise.

As with others, I am very happy for O-Powers (the Rotom Lotto effects) coming back.

They will make egg hatching and legendary captures a lot easier.

Now they just need to add a way to get easy post-game experience. Oh, I guess a lengthier postgame wouldn't hurt.

I'm still remaining optimistic about this entry. There's no way they are releasing a sequel as barebones as they are making it seem it is.

After struggling to finish Sun & Moon in the first place... these do nothing for me. Might go play Black 2 though - now that game still appeals to me.

(I think there's something to be said for how much slower the games feel now, and how much "smaller" they feel, despite having "bigger" landmass. So many small loading times, dropped frames and small delays add up)

I don't get how some of you are finding these things convoluted. I'm one of those people who makes really dumb mistakes in other video games, and these additions look straightforward enough to me.

Xion_Stellar

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
What part is convoluted? You have new z moves and the return of o powers from XY.
I think it's better to describe it as not being enticing features. The game is feeling half assed because they haven't shown alot to be excited for as for this trailer bringing back O powers is nice but it's a feature we have seen before and getting worked up for that is like asking us to be excited they brought back Day & Night cycles.

As for more Z moves? Look it's a nice gimmick but generally speaking either you're never going to use them because you already have another Z Move in your rooster or because you don't use legendaries and at this point I'm 100% sure they are dropping Alola varients in Gen VIII and I'm expecting them to drop Z moves too since they were so quick to drop Mega Pokemon.

I guess a lot of people are waiting for the Diamond & Pearl remake at this point? Because unless they are willing to skip another year and not release another Pokemon game until 2019 I very much doubt we are jumping into Gen VIII on the Switch right away because the Anime is nowhere near finish at this point.

They just had a bunch of bigger reveals, why are people acting like there's nothing here just because they revealed some smaller stuff?

i know why

I think this game is going to end up being a lot better than most are expecting, but TPCi has done a really poor job of advertising USM from the get-go. The new Pokemon and villains should've been revealed earlier, and right should've been the time where they revealed or least teased the presence of any new postgame facilities.

Yeah I'm not feeling it either, especially with the wealth of other games releasing. I feel like my time will be better spent on other things, and waiting for the Switch games. The 3DS is a little long in the tooth.

That’s what I’m hoping for. The previous batch of news gave reason to be hopeful, so that’s a plus.
