"We talk to Sony all the time. With Minecraft on PlayStation, we have to be one of the biggest games on their platform in terms of sales and gameplay," Spencer said. "Same with Nintendo. The relationship with Nintendo on this front has been strong. They've been great supporters and we continue to collaborate with them. But I think Sony's view is different. They should talk about what their view is..."

"I have a real struggle making comments about their motivation or timelines. I know there is a certain view that says if my friends have this console, they can't play with people who buy another console. That's a reason they go buy my console,"

"I think people look at [cross-play] and say is it better for gamers. If it's better for gamers, I have a hard time thinking why we shouldn't go do this, especially when you're trying to make the gaming business a bigger business; grow it, get more games, create more opportunity,"

"Especially in the indie space, actually. If you're creating an online indie game and you're going to create five [shards] of your game--the Steam version, Xbox Live on PC, Xbox version, the PlayStation version, the Switch version creates hard matchmaking scenarios. We should help developers, not make their lives more difficult."

They have, they said if it requires an xbox live account to play on a PS4 then they are noping the fuck out of it.

How bout this guy does his job and actually opens some new first party studios, rather than moaning that they are not letting the trojan horse into their fort.

Yup, confirms my suspicion: Phil Spencer hates children and doesn't care what happens to them

No wonder they have a bad child-friendly game output

No, that is the excuse fans made up

Sony said it was for the children

but way to try to turn this thread into 'xbox has no games'. This topic has literally nothing to do with exclusives. The exact opposite

So how come Rocket League isn't crossplay ? It doesn't require an xbox live login.

Did Phil get asked about this AGAIN? It's like MS can't stop reminding us how they're the good guys every couple weeks on this.

Or Fortnite. We've already seen that you don't even need to login to get crossplay just if you also want cross saving..

Executive of console manufacturer fights for consumer rights to make all games better for consumers and developers... consumers tell him to give up. Way to go guys.

I mean seriously I want this not for Minecraft and I don't care if Sony doesn't want to do it.

I want this so every game that is able to be crossplay becomes crossplay. This isn't about Minecraft. This is about every multi-platform game that can become crossplay to be cross play this is about, Minecraft, Rocket League, Fortnite, and more to come. The more games become easier to be cross-platform they will continue to want crossplay.

Stop thinking this is only about Minecraft. It's not.

Rocket League doesn't require an XBL login

You mean like rocket league and gwent both games ready to flick the switch use Xbox live account. No that's just a dumb excuse just like the children crap. Infact I'm not even sure even sony has said this, pretty sure it's just fanboys trying to protect their beloved company

Only Minecraft requires a Microsoft account because they own the game it's quite logical. They're hardly going to use EA or someone else's account system for a game they own.

No they haven't. And Rocket League, Ark and Fortnite's devs dont' require Xbox Live. So that requirement is BS just because Minecraft, a MS owned IP requires it.

Cross play is good for gamers. I don't get the mental gymnastics people employ to protect their beloved company regarding a move that benefits all us gamers.

You've been mislead on every point youve made.

Also, he has signed new games as we found out, he was asked a question about this issue, and you seem to be disturbed by Sony being called out sensibly? He just said, "what is your view", well... what is it?

All MS owned games will require XBL, but id imagine its like how some sites allow you to log on with your Google or Facebook account, its most likely a session layer, ability to integrate with XBL just because its probably what all external parties use...but you seem to be stuck with just the words rather then the assumed workings. I mean, this fairly common backend negotiation that takes place with most services.

So what about when Epic turned on crossplay for Fortnite?

Does every single online game that's available on both Steam and W10 Store supports cross-play between these two PC storefronts? I hope I'm not misunderstood. This is not an attempt to look for excuses for anyone. Sony's stance is batshit crazy from a consumer standpoint. I'm just genuinely curious.

I mean I don't want to put out the obvious solution to Phil if he really wants it to happen, why doesn't Microsoft just over to build the whole thing and let Sony run it, let people make sony accounts connect to their stuff and that's it if Phil really wants cross play to happen. Oh, wait.

A bit off-topic, but I wonder what else Nintendo and MS might collaborate on. MS made games for the GBA before after they bought Rare, wonder if we will see stuff like that since they seem to be best friends right now lol

Their stance is that they want you to buy a PS4 to play with PS4 players. That's really all it comes down to.

It's money thing.

No. But the newer ones do.

They've seemingly opened the door recently to allow crossplay for whatever company wants to implement it.

Again, this is a dumb argument because Rocket League doesn't require any Microsoft accounts and that still doesn't crossplay between the two consoles.

but if papa says something, then it becomes that much harder for us to invent our own stand-in logic for which our only real defense is literally just repeating 'Well we just don't know'

I'd love to play cross platform with my daughters.

Basically.

Maybe the press should be asking this to Sony instead of asking Phil over and over.

They've asked Sony and Sony has responded. Their reasoning is shit, but they have responded.

I don't know why Phil continues to answer. Just move on. Because clearly this isn't a topic that's gaining a lot of traction or most gamers really care about.

It's easier for him to complain. He's a true American.

which is the guess Phil Spencer made in this interview, but his point is that he shouldn't be speaking for Sony

I wouldn't call it friendship, they just see mutual benefit in pushing crossplay. Devs like it, players like it, and it adds longevity to multiplayer.

Didn't Sony already give their stance? Some bs reason about kids wasn't it?

Yes, and they immediately got called out on it when an interviewer brought up Nintendo being fine with cross-play and being far more concerned about parental controls than Sony.

They have, they said if it requires an xbox live account to play on a PS4 then they are noping the fuck out of it.

#1 - Minecraft is the only game which requires a Microsoft account to enable crossplay functionality
#2 - Go ahead and link me to where somebody at Sony actually said that.

Same with Nintendo. The relationship with Nintendo on this front has been strong. They've been great supporters and we continue to collaborate with them. But I think Sony's view is different. They should talk about what their view is

What is this opposite time line?
