Nielsen measures anticipation based on awareness, purchase interest and consumer rating, among other key metrics. This gives a percent value (called Game Rank) reflecting ”how strong the overall anticipation level is for the title, relative to the pre-release anticipation levels of all previous titles that released on the platform(s)," the company explained in its methodology. 6,000 gamers have been surveyed between August 21st and September 23rd to collect this data.

Really surprised to see AC:O over Star Wars

Before anyone says: no they don't define what a gamer is

So what do we think? Will AC:O be higher than expectations? maybe top 10 million?

It's not AC: O at #2 and Battlefront 2 at #3; both the Pokémon-games, SMO and Mario & Luigi is above AC: O. Or am I reading it wrong?

EDIT: Seems you can't do an overall ranking, just platform-based ranking. I get it now.

All seem like pretty safe and cushy bets. Nothing too shocking, here. Interesting, nonetheless! The absence of Shadow of War is interesting.

The way Nielsen draws data like this means that this doesn't just represent enthusiasts, this represents the entire American gaming population.

So expect those top 3 to sell 15+ million copies easily, despite lootboxes.

Looking at that list reminds me that my tastes in games don't fall in line with any of the traditional demographics.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Taking a year off did wonders for Assassins Creed.

The game looks considerably improved and there's considerable hype for it.

Looking at the sort of multiplatform games the mainstream gamer plays is becoming more and more like looking at a list of the most popular mobile games, I have very little association with or interest in either.

Call of Duty isn't a surprise but I'm excited to see so many people just as pumped for the return of Assassin's Creed as I am.
