Golf Story |OT| Return to Camelot

Hit two fun bugs on the 5th course last night. The second one was the most baffling thing I've seen in a while.

Does getting an OOB in Galf automatically lock the game up? Like, the ball goes OOB, but there's no indicator or anything and you can't do anything in Galf, can't quit out of Galf, but can still.... read the manual. Lol.

Happened three times so far, on both Galf Seasons and Galf Nights. Weird.

Yup, had that happen last night. But then I couldn't find a way to quit out of Galf when I retried it after that anyway. Beat the course and it looped the game (as expected) but there didn't seem to be any way to quit out without just closing the entire game.

I think the rumble is broken in my right joycon. Going to bave to compare to my other set when I get home. My right joycon makes a really loud buzzing noise. Kind of like the iPad Air 2 does. Sounds like a really low quality rumble with the "bzzzzzzz" sound. Left Joycon seems fine.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

How is Nintendo about fixing this? Is it even under warranty? This is an extra set of Neon joycons I bought.

Galf is bugged to hell and back.

Avoid until patch

Finished the game.

Very satisfying experience.

The last match was a nice challenge. I am not sure if it was a glitch but I finished at par (double bogeyed the last hole) and tied with the guy you are competing with but I still got a victory and the ending. Could not tell if that was supposed to happen or another glitch in the game.

Highly recommended. Hope it comes to other platforms so more people can enjoy it.

Only played for 20 minutes or so. I can already tell I'm going to love this. I love golf games and RPGs, so it's a natural fit. What I didn't expect is genuine charm and a legitimately funny game. I've laughed out loud a few times so far. It's rare for a game to do that.

The textbox animations really help in the delivery of the humor as well. Really nice touch.

I made a ridiculous shot to birdie the last hole to bring me up to par and it gave me the victory. It probably isn’t a bug, but it is weird. It took me a good 10+ times to not completely fuck up one hole or another on that course. I kept getting one hole with a +4 or more because of water hazards.

I know a patch was submitted for approval last week. Any idea how long these things typically take to get approved or whatever?

The Binding of Isaac patch from last month had something like a two week turnaround time from when Edmund posted about it on Twitter. That was a big patch with a lot of new content too. Might be quicker for something that is just a bug patch? That's just speculation on my part though.

I dunno if you tried this, but normally the + button brings up the menu where you can quit Galf. It took me a couple of sessions to figure that out.

It wasn't the last match, but I swore that I had lost to someone in one of the very first matches and it still said I was successful. I just figured I forgot what my score was or something.

I tried it; didn't bring up a menu like it should. Not sure why.

Hopefully the patch fixes that stuff, though at least with Galf it's not like anything else is on that screen so it doesn't force you to redo anything, at least.

I finished this game last night right around 15 hours I think and damn, this is one great little game with more charm than most AAA titles that come out. Just an overall great and fun experience, and made me feel like a kid again. The damn mystery at the party was just awesome. So was some of the stuff in the Halloween themed course. Just so much charm to this damn game, and the dialog had me LOL'ing a few times, including the rap battle lol.

I'm kind of sad that I finished it and there really isn't much else to do since I have everything already. I don't particularly find the golf engine fun enough to just play random matches alone, so I don't think I'll play it much anymore.

But a really great experience.

Guess not a bug.

And you really have to play that course conservatively.

The wind makes it really hard to just cheese it by chipping in too. And putting is a lot harder with almost no room for error.

I started of loving this game, but have now reached a point where all the little annoyances have pushed me to a point where I think I'm ready to give up.

I'm currently in
the winter area and have to defrost a bunch of people.
Roughly how much game have I got left? If its an hour I'll push through, but anything more and I'll most likely leave it by the wayside.

You are around 4/5ths of the way through. You have one more course to visit out of 8.

I beat the final tournament on my first try. I was -1 though. I was even going into hole 7 then I holed out an eagle. Then hole 8 I got a bogey so I was nervous. Then on the last hole I saw it was a par 6 and was like WTF!! My tee shot was in the rough too, so my next shot couldn't go far.

Needless to say I got fairly lucky and par'd the hole to get -1.

I didn't have to play any of the matches twice though. Most match play matches I won after 5 holes other than a few, including when Lara or whatever her name got an ace on the first hole of the halloween course.

The first time you play Blue Hills or whatver it's called, and you face the coaches son in a match play, and the greens are all flat with no break, I was at like a -9 after 8 holes. That was super easy with the greens being flat. I felt like I was playing Hot Shots Golf on that one with the scores I was shooting.

Finished this today. Not generally a fan of RPGs but so slad I got it. Such a charming game, great use of dialogue boxes and rumble, rock solid golf mechanics and plenty of very creative hazards. Mad props to the devs.

Made it to the last tournament but it's killing me... I keep feeling like the wind is screwing me over or I can't get any distance from anything that's not the fairway. Maybe I should hunt around for better equipment or level up a bit first, but yea, seems a definite step up from anything else I've encountered so far.

EDIT:
And so, of course, I write this, have one more attempt before bed and fucking nail it, getting a lucky eagle on the eighth and ending up with a -3.

Yeah, this is the first game I've played since... probably the N64 where I've been impressed with rumble in a game.

My only complaint about it is the rumble you get when you progress a dialog box. Sometimes I just want to skip through some of the longer, boring conversations and it's just Bzz, bzz, bzz over and over again.

Just got back into this game to wrap up the main story, though I didn't finish all the side content like the cacher quests. I completed the first course in Galf and found a second cartridge, but haven't gone back to look at it yet.

Finished at level 34, a little over 16 hours, and a medal count of 54 on my save file. Oddly, after finishing the last tournament my inventory did not display a high-score card for Blue Moon Dunes, so I assume I have to play a standard round of stroke play to have that available. I'm pretty happy with my -7 on the last course—plenty of margin for error. The performance benchmarks in this game are pretty generous, and I don't think I ever failed anything on my first try.

On late-game purchases in the last zone:
Does anyone know what the workability improvements on the Wellworn clubs do? I paid $2000 to the genie to obtain them both, since I had enough cash and nothing else to spend it on, but don't see an advantage to using the Wellworn set over my preferred clubs that cover a greater distance (Pro Woods, Bladed Irons).

On the whole, I'm not overwhelmed with this game the way some people are, but I do think it's very good at what it sets out to do, offering a significant top-down golf experience (the likes of which I haven't seen in generations) accompanied by a wealth of minigames and target-practice challenges.
The Pac-Man tribute was brilliant.
It's an excellent companion piece to a full-3D pure golf game with wacky course mechanics like Mario Golf: World Tour, and they pair well together as fairly definitive expressions of two contrasting visions of what a golf game ought to be. Golf Story is a game that wholly commits to its engine and its golf-obsessed world, and I consider it a compliment that it felt significantly shorter than it is, because my time with it flew right by. It breaks down so easily into bite-sized tasks and compulsively repeatable challenges that my 16-hour completion time honestly felt more like 5. And the courses themselves are interesting enough that I could see myself idly dabbling in this game again to sweep up more Birdie/Eagle medals.

I kind of wish the part in the ending
where the map is revealed to be in the shape of Australia
wasn't spoiled for me ahead of time, but that doesn't diminish its sweetness as a final cadence.

I don't even like golf but I loved this game. Finished it today finally with the most epic sports movie-worthy final tournament ever. I was really fucking things up, getting extremely unlucky with stuff I'm usually so good at even such as chipping into the hole. It came down to the final hole and I was at 1 point vs the top opponent's 0. I had to win with 4 hits on a par 6. On the fourth hit I was in the rough off the green, a fair distance away from the hole. I crossed my fingers and did my very best at a chip... And got it in.

Other than that I also went crazy when playing against Lara at Oak Manor. She got a hole in one on the first hole, was that scripted?! She wasn't so good the rest of that match, but what a way to open it.

I had to read this somewhere else as the game never tells you, but
the improved workability allows for *insane* shot curves (when you're adjusting the strike point with X). These things can straight up curve around trees etc.

Done with the game. Got all the things under the Progress option.

It's a charming little game. This is one of the RPGs that I don't mind reading all of the text as they are funny. I'm not a big golf fan, but I enjoyed the golf aspects for what it is. I say that the game is easy to somewhat challenging, but it doesn't lean into hard or unfair territory.

Also, fuck Galf.

Spoilers for Tidy Park:

I was not expecting a RAP BATTLE. Probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a video game.

Finished up this game yesterday, 17hrs on the clock to complete it. Very nice little game..... but only realised till the last championship that i could use more than just normal and focus shots.... i had tee and power... made that last championship a lot easier, finished -2.

Also just finished this a couple of days ago, a wonderful addition to my Switch Library.

The last course kicked my butt a little bit, it's ridiculously easy to either go into the water or out of bonds on some holes, basically making you have to start over. That's welcome though, the final challenge of the game should be, well, challenging.

I was honestly hoping for a little bit of ship teasing with Lara in the end.

This game is legit - loved that scene.

Wish it didn’t have the bugs it does though. Rumble is great, but it gets disabled now and then after putting the system to sleep or going to the home menu. I have to quite and reopen to enable it again. Very annoying since I like the feature.

I'm irons off tees.
aces on threes
stiff in the knees
but never in trees.

This old guy's flow is pretty dope.

Ran into a few bugs, including being unable to escape from GALF, and not being able to move after waking up from bed after a cutscene.

Anyway, I'm at the point in the game where I think the gamebreaking bug can occur.

Is the general consensus to just never save while you're inside the large mansion/club thing?

Just don't save during the party.

I am stuck with the guy that requested the slippers. How the hell do I get those in, they keep slipping on that surface...

If these guys manage their money well they could become a western Camelot of old. I'd love to play more sports RPGs. Way more fun to me than regular old sports games.

I really want Boxing Story with a Punch Out interface.

I did great on Blue Moon match play and single play, (even got a hole in one!) but the tournament is killing me. Not sure what’s different, the wind?

Will prob try again this weekend.

Different wind, different green slopes, and you're starting from the furthest-back tee which means there's more distance to cover.

I finally beat the last tournament earlier tonight so the game's over for me for now. What a fun experience overall, although some of the challenges started to blend together a bit too much as it continued on. There are a few too many points where "hit the ball into this particular circle" is tossed at you without anything significant to differentiate it. Aside from that, the only other criticism I could really think of is that I do wish there was a bit more freeform golf problem-solving while wandering the map. One of the game's fun unique points is the notion of being able to "tee up anywhere!" but it felt to me like there aren't a lot of occasions where you really make use of that, outside of a couple of driving range things and the occasional mystical bonus-holes. More secrets like that would have been really appreciated. I'm also kind of surprised that, story wise,
we never seem to get any further context for why the player dropped golf in the first place beyond his mention of a "goose incident." What happened to our dad?
Otherwise the writing and humor in the game is really spot-on.

Really interested to see what this studio has up its sleeve for their next project. It'll be hard to duplicate what Golf Story does, because the nature of the sport is very individual and uniquely easy to convert control-wise into the "play the sport anywhere" approach. The idea of "tennis anywhere" doesn't really work the same way.

What's up with stats looking maxed out but I can still put points in them?

I have strike at 50% accuracy which looks like it's the max yet I can still put points in and I can't refund them either. Is this a bug?

Putting points into power will cause your other stats to decrease so you can put more points beyond 'max' to keep that from happening. It's a weird system to be sure and could be explained/telegraphed better but I'm not sure it's technically a bug.
