This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

Hey guys.

Is there any news of Nintendo allowing save transfer? (same account)

My son's Switch is damaged and I don't have any Nintendo store in the country I'm in. My only realistic option is to buy a new one. I don't mind, but he will mind especially after putting more than 350 hours into Zelda and god knows how many in Splatoon 2 now.

Help please.

Thanks

If I wanted to buy authentic game boxes and manuals but not the games themselves, where would I look? Specifically, I have a copy of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (the cartridge), but I want to own the box and manual for it too. Is there any place I can go that sells such boxes and manuals without the games?
Have you tried eBay?

SILENT HILL QUESTION.

Is there an overarching plot about the town or the witch?
I'm about to start playing SH1, is there a detour I should take at some point to a place (or cutscene) that tells me more about the town?

Has Nintendo said anything about sharing resources between 3DS and Switch recently?

Iwata had a lot of comments about the platforms being brothers in terms of development, but I can't recall anything since.

That will be Switch and its successors/other form factors, not Switch and 3DS.

I haven't played them in a while, but Silent Hill 1 and 3 are pretty much all about an overarching plot about why the town is the way it is. I don't remember any detour necessary for the main reasons, but exploring the town and reading everything will certainly give you more details.

Silent Hill 2 has details, but it is more about James and the people he interacts with.

And what about Silent Hill Origins? I must add that I have a PSP and sh1 and shO are the first ones i'll get to play.

Is there such a thing as second-person point of view, like first-person (COD, BF...) and third-person (RE, Hitman....)

Pretty much agree with what Randdalf said above, but I also think specific points in games show where it switches to a 2nd person view.

For example

Just started playing the first SteamWorld Dig game, which I thought I had played before. But after playing it for a bit, I realise it isn’t the game I was thinking of. Now however it is really bugging me not knowing what the game was called.

Basically it was a 2D mining game similar to something like SteamWorld Dig or Spelunky. You could place ropes, ladders, elevators and also reinforce walls I think. I also vaguely remover being able to drill through walls. I remember really enjoying it, but I can’t remember what it was called.

Edit: Managed to find it, it was called Gem Miner.

Any update on the PS4 Pro patch for Witcher 3?

They had said it would be out in a few days and that was awhile ago, also said XboX would receive a patch before the end of the year

They walked back from that "in a few days" statement.

I'm also eagerly awaiting it. Also the DOOM one.

Do I need to beat the whole game on Uber to get the trophy or does finishing Chapter 16 on Uber work still? I don't know if it's been patched.

is there a special day for releasing updates to games or is it just random?

Nioh, Rocket league and now Fortnite all needed updates today. Been sitting and waiting for ages

I own The Last of Us on PS3. Are there any downsides to buying Left Behind (standalone) on PS4? Like anything I could transfer from my savefile if I buy it on PS3?

In Telltale games, at the end of each episode they give you player stats. "30% of players picked choice A, 70% picked B." Do you need PS+ or Xbox Gold memberships for those stats?

I want to give the fighting game genre a go. I only ever played Tekken or something one time and thats as far as my experience goes. What's one of the easier games to learn? Not looking to be competitive but I'd like to mess around with bots or whatever. Any suggestions on what game would be best for an absolute newcomer like myself?

Would like to play on PC if possible. I've considered the various Street Fighters, Naruto, Dragonball games. Don't care how old the game is.

Skullgirls is on PC and has an excellent tutorial that teaches you a lot about the combat system.

I was playing through Deus Ex 1 for the whateverith time and I got to Hong Kong. I went up I side elevator in the apartment area near the canals, and I noticed there was one of those "Jump out of the moving elevator into the room you pass on the way" secrets. Inside, there was a human skull and nothing else.

What in the world?

This is a 'Gaf-related question that I've always wondered.

What exactly determines when a game-specific |OT| is retired from Gaming Discussion over to the Gaming Community board?

It seems weirdly inconsistent.

I always thought that after a set amount of time an |OT| was retired to make room (visibility) for new threads on Gaming. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Salt and Sanctuary |OT| Salt for the Soul
Thread start: 3-14-2016
Current location: Gaming

Sonic Mania |OT| Dreams Come True
Thread start: 8-13-2017
Current location: Community

Seems strange.

A 19 month old title is still in Gaming while a 2 month old title is already in Community.

So what am I missing?

Not ruffled over it or anything. Just curious.

What was the first game to feature S ranks? As in, part of the SSS, SS, S, A, B, C etc. high score system.

Does it even stand for something in particular?

Any switch user uses a monitor for display? If yes which model are you using as I am looking around for one for my switch and surface pro

I use this monitor with both my PS4 (launch, not pro) and Switch: ASUS VS239H-P

Good colors and low lag at 1080p. I don't have a TV at home and just stream a bunch of stuff, so the monitor also doubles as my Netflix screen as well. It doesn't have built in speakers, though. I use a pair of Presonus Eris speakers with them.

I use my old "Asus VG278H 120hz" monitor through a HDMI switch (I have fancy coloured LED lighting) and it looks fine. Any recent monitor with a HDMI input should be ok the main factor is size, cost and then which tech you want. I don't think a 120hz+ monitor would be needed purely for Console gaming so you can probably save some cash by getting a 60hz model for example.

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a modern version of Test Drive III: The Passion.

That means:

- driving cars in various places
- in an "open world" (not limited to just the track)
- that's available right away (no hours-long mandatory story before the game opens up)
- just let me drive, not only in a race
- ideally also not online

Does any such beast exist? The Crew, Driveclub, and Truck Simulator don't qualify.

I think its supposed to be moved after a month from the OT opening date. I think the one for Salt and Sanctuary was probably just overlooked and forgotten so it stayed in gaming.

Sounds like the Forza Horizon games. I think the recent Need For Speed games do it too.
