We already have a thread for the SFM short but I figured I would make a thread for general update discussion.

Jungle Inferno is going to be a 4 day update for TF2 so it will ship on Thursday.

Day One Content:

Jungle Inferno SFM Short Film - Featuring Saxton Hale and the Scout

The update will feature 6 maps, one made by Valve and 5 made by the community:

yetipark_5.jpg
A 3 CP map named either Yeti or Mercenary Park, made by Valve.

Lazarus a King of the Hill Map

MossRock an Attack Defend Control Point Map

Banana Bay a Payload Race Map

Enclosure a Payload Map

Brazil a King of the Hill Map

We have 7 new taunts announced today,
Yeti Punch
Yeti Smash
The Dueling Banjo
The Jumping Jack
The Soviet Strong Arm
The Russian Arms Race

Day Two Content

Valve announced their new Choose Your Own Adventure campaign pass system.
Buying a Jungle Inferno Campaign Pass gives you immediate access to 36 unique, skill-based contracts, letting you play at your own speed and challenge level. Unlike in previous campaigns, you won't be waiting around for new contract deliveries — ALL contracts and their objectives are available from the start, and can be unlocked sequentially based on the path you choose and how brave you are. (If you're not brave at all, the ConTracker also comes with an OFF button.) Buying a pass also changes your Casual Badge to a scary Yeti paw, so other players will know you're up to serious business.

If you buy a campaign pass you'll receive an equipable item called the ConTracker that lets you customize your campaign. You'll also be able to do campaigns with a friend and help each other complete objectives.

Finishing campaigns unlocks Blood Money which you can use on War Paint and War Paint Cases.

War Paints now replace the previous weapon drops from previous cases:
Introducing War Paint, which will be replacing weapon drops and weapon cases as of the Jungle Inferno Update. Think of it as a voucher for a unique pattern that you can redeem for an entirely new patterned item—even one you don't already own. Redeeming a War Paint means you don't have to sacrifice any existing items in your backpack by modifying them. Simply select from one of almost forty item choices per War Paint, preview your new item, and redeem it! Some War Paints even feature Stat Tracking and Unusual effects. And also making their debut, the first-ever community-made War Paints.

Some war paint examples:

You can also get cosmetic items by completing the contracts, including a yeti costume for the Heavy and Saxton Hale's Hat.

Day 3 Content

Valve announced 4 new weapons for Pyro:
The Dragon's Fury a fireball shooting flamethrower primary
The Thermal Thruster - a jetpack that deals damage to anyone you land on
The Gas Passer - A throw able grenade like weapon that creates a gas cloud. If an enemy is coated in gas and takes damage they will ignite in afterburn.
The Hot Hand - A melee that gives the player a speedboost for hitting an enemy player.

The flamethrower will also get some reworks. It appears flames will no longer use invisible projectiles which require you to fire ahead of the enemy to do damage but you'll do damage when you hit the enemy. After burn has been reworked to last longer Airblast has also been reworked in various ways.

The Heavy also gets a new weapon:
The Second Banana - A secondary that heals 150 damage but regenerates in half the time as the sandvich.

I can't wait to try that jetpack, but if it takes the same slot as my flaregun it's gonna have to only come out in special occasions.

Battle Royale update when?
On a Source engine game? Probably never. :V

Mercenary park sounds great. I loved Powerhouse, despite the complaints about it being too prone to stalemates. I'm pretty sure this update is going to have contracts like Gun Mettle, which also sounds good because GM was the most fun I've had with TF2 in years.

EDIT: Wait, what is a "choose your own adventure" campaign?

I assume it just means it's less strict about which contracts you have to work.

The maps look great. I haven't touched TF2 in what feels like years and the game that replaced it in my library (Overwatch) has still got a couple thousand hours behind TF2's playtime counter.

There was something incredibly fun with TF2 that not many other shooters have managed to surpass. It'd be good to boost it back up again for old time's sake.

Banana Bay looks dope, hoping for another Hightower.
I've played Banana Bay and I think it will come close to being popular as Hightower. Maybe not quite as popular since you can't do as much crazy rocket jumping but whenever I'm played it on the Valve News Network server that was running Jungle maps everyone loved it and wanted to keep playing it over all the other maps.

I think Enclosure will be another favorite since it does the Jurassic Park theme very well (we'll have to see if Valve does it better).

I miss TF2, but I still don't think I'm ever going to go back. Sucks that Meridian isn't part of this pack but I understand why.

Was Meridian that Territorial Control + CTF map?

Why anybody would even think of combining the two worst game modes in TF2 is beyond me.

I wonder if we'll get more weapons than just stuff for Pyro. Engineer could use some new toys.

TF2 has been a third of my life. No other single game can claim such a large chunk of my life like TF2.

It is somewhat suspicious both the heavy and engie got 2 taunts each but it could also be a complete coincidence.

Many people, myself included would like to see engie get a speed pad to replace teleporters which would be very useful for 5CP and KOTH maps.

See, I always said Engie should be able to build a mancannon instead of a teleporter.

This jetpack is going to bring new life to Pyro's Firefly cosmetics.

I'd like Engineer to get a clone of the Family Business. I think he'd actually find use for it as a combat Engy, unlike Heavy who never really uses anything but Sandvich.

I'd also like to see more weapons for Engineer that aren't boring. The only unlock Engy has that I actually use is the Rescue Ranger, and that's getting nerfed :/

I haven't played TF2 in a long ass time, but as an engy main pubber, the teleporters problem is its my job to get it near the front lines and make sure its upgraded, but its the rest of the teams job to know what classes can get there just as fast by running / rocket jumping / sticky jumping (and healing up with the dispenser I helpfully provided near the front line) and that if I want to use my own teleporter I probably have a damn good reason to, like ensuring that teleporter is still there after I go through

Honesty there's no reason the Family Business couldn't be equipped by all shotgun classes.

I saw Uncle Dane suggest a pistol for engie that would allow you to right click to increase your speed while using up metal. It could be interesting but it would probably need a down side like decreased metal pickup (I can't remember what Dane suggested for a downside).

Update it to Source Engine 2 and I will probably care again.

Multiple higher up at Valve including Gabe Newell and Doug Lombardi have said that they want all the Valve devs working on Source 2 eventually. One of the CSGO devs also said in an interview earlier this year that Source 2 was the future of all games at Valve and CSGO would eventually be ported to Source 2. I'm pretty sure TF2 is coming to Source 2 eventually even though it hasn't been confirmed. Some have speculated that's why this update took so long but I'm not so sure.

I think if they were giving the Family Business to other classes, they'd need to clone it and make a new weapon, because the Family Business is not only ugly, but specific to heavy with the hammer and sickle on it.

He already has the perfect cosmetic to go with it.
EDIT: Oh oops you, I read your post wrong lol

He has another set based on Firefly as well from a few Halloweens ago that's a bit more generic. I already have this Arkham helmet, I'll probably mix it with the costume from the Halloween set, and then find some second misc to wear with it, maybe some kind of grenades. I'd have to look and see what Pyro has, since I assume backpack items won't work with the jetpack.

TF2 is still in the top 5 most played games on Steam and usually has 40k-60 concurrent players at any given time.

Honestly I'm just surprised Valve still has time for it, given that the ~400k average Dota 2 is their main moneyspinner outside of Steam itself these days.

They move in mysterious ways.

Definitely looking forward to it when it drops but for god's sake Valve give Heavy some love & I'm not talking about just undoing the utterly idiotic damage spin up nerf they'll do but actual honest to god viable side grades to spice up the gameplay of poor Heavy. They gave Spy a bunch of broken shit before & it took them ages to undo some of them so it's about time Heavy gets some attention.

12-15 people at Valve really, really, really like TF2 and its community. They're a dedicated bunch.

Supposedly TF2 is where a lot of new Valve employees end up to sort of learn the ropes so to speak.

Yea, and this too. It's a small team with a healthy community that's fairly nice and adaptable. Seems perfect to get employees used to Valve and game development.

I just realized that there is still no conclusion to the TF2 comics - and now most of Valves writers are gone :(

It's great to see this game still getting updates. Maybe I'll dive in again sometime.

It really shows. The team behind TF2 clearly love what they do.

2 members of the TF2 team, Dave Riller and Eric Smith have probably been working on the game for close to 20 years now (depending how much time the game spent in active development between it's announcement and release). People who have visited Valve have talked about how they're basically people who you would think of as very hardcore fans of the game, but just happen to be programmers of the game too. They are crazy dedicated and passionate.

Fuckers nerfed spy Ambassador sniping :(

Honestly, among Spy's dumb, broken shit at his disposal that change is just baffling. I have a lot of respect for spies who consistently land headshots ( well the ones who aren't aimbotting) so them taking away his most reliable long range option is shitty.

I have a friend that's a highlander spy main and he's livid about the change. I got a 10 minute rant from him about the change, but I do think a change needs to be made to the ambassador.

Given that change was probably the most controversial I'm guessing the shipped version won't be exactly the same as the blog post version.

I still play TF2, be it modded servers, but this may get me back into the main game again. Still have yet to try the contracts though.
