The Star Wars Saga Rewatch Thread (Saturdays, Oct. 21 to Dec. 9)

Well

People can hate anything I guess

It's the only moment in the entire trilogy that focuses on mythology, and it's used in a way that explores Palp's motivations and Anakin's insecurities. At that point Anakin kinda understands that Palp isn't who he says he is.. But his desire to save Padme overcomes everything else

It's actually a pretty awesome scene that accomplishes something for its characters while expanding SW mythos

Problem for me is that it tries to bring midichlorians back into the picture to explain how it all.

Im probably in the minority here, but is anyone else enjoying the prequels more than Episode 7?

I mean, I am one of the people that will gladly watch the prequels (and not whine about them all the time) even if I do still have some issues with them.

But no.

Anakin's mother dying in his arms was a legit sad moment. Poor Annie.
Probably the best moment in the film. There's actual emotional resonance. Maybe the only good thing that came from TPM, from a storytelling perspective. Setting up that moment

I still can’t believe they all just let that poor woman be doomed to slavery. I get that they couldn’t do a whole upheaval of Tatooine but ffff. Surely someone would have been smart enough to know it would have made Anakin resent them.

Seems like maybe the Jedi could have found a way to pay for her freedom, if nothing else, especially once they sensed Anakin's dark future

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Why not both?

Actually, I've been thinking about this, and I think he's got a point.

Also I've never used Discord too. I don't know if I'll bat an eye towards it afterwards.

So yeah I think thread it is then. Will update the OP.

:(

Most of our international schedules don't line up for live thread commentary anyway, so people will be reacting throughout the day and week anyways. I thought live discord would be fun for the few people whose schedules DO align.

Yeah, basically. I'll still set up times where we could do synchronized watches for anyone who wants to do that, but it'll all just be in this thread.

There's actually a huge amount of fans who like Jedi the best.

I was like that for a while, but after watching the entire OT back-to-back, it has unmistakable pacing issues, and characters sort of shuffle off to the side and don't have as much to do as in ANH and ESB.

I did a saga rewatch before TFA and I kinda swore to myself that I'll never watch 1 or 2 ever again (at least sober). I'll probably catch up with ya'll for Sith, at least that one is unintentionally hilarious. Honestly if you're gonna watch the first two stinkers you may as well watch the Clone Wars film just for the potential reaction gold from first time viewers.

The only reaction people would have to TCW is boredom.

Going to make this a fun Pizza and a movie night with my wife and nearly 4 year old daughter. Not sure if she is old enough for the last half of ROTS YET. As a huge Star Wars fan myself, she has picked up some knowledge through osmosis. It's so cool to know that her generation will have the sequel trilogy as their primary relatable characters. She is so much more familiar with Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren than the OT characters. Oh and Porgs. She loves those adorable little furballs.

Starting a bit early to get through Ep I. Heavy sigh when starting it. If I start it now I’ll work up the ability to finish it by Saturday.

If we're going to watch a Clone Wars movie...

Non-canon, unfortunately.

True, but is there really anything in there that contradicts canon? It also leads perfectly into Episode 3.

Especially since the Grievous in that one is hilariously overpowered...

Okay maybe fighting two Jedi Masters, two Knights plus a Padawan and winning was a bit much. But it looked so damn good...

Super-spicy hot take: Clone Wars '03 is visually beautiful but is otherwise lame and Clone Wars '08 is the far superior show in all other regards.

Sure, because 08 had time to tell a proper story and build its characters. 03 had a total run time of about 2~ hours (like half of which had to be broken into 5 minute chunks), and 08 took two whole seasons to become actually good. It far surpassed it in time but 03 holds a special place in my heart as I remember vividly watching it live with my Imperial guild in Star Wars Galaxies.

Grievous was always a wheezer in canon and Anakin and Obi-Wan were returning from preparations for the Siege of Mandalore, not from Nelvaan. Minor stuff but technically thems the breaks.

Hey guys

Just a friendly reminder that

WE ARE EIGHT WEEKS AWAY FROM THE LAST JEDI

This thread is going to work wonders for the wait. Excited to get started! PT October Madness!

I fully agree. I like the 03 show just fine and it had fun action, but as a story 08 blows it out of the water. It made me care about characters and introduced some of my favorite Star wars paces/characters.
