Star Wars Battlefront 2 Single Player Trailer

To people that says this is not by DICE and that there are good writers behind this.. Are you seriously not wary of the game reusing the maps from the multiplayer?

No one can make many assumptions from the trailer but I'm assuming this will be on par of previous SP campaigns for this kind of game.

Does anybody seriously expect a fully-featured single player campaign with long levels, progression and polish of any other single player 3rd person action game?
I'm expecting a linear campaign with average writing like many multiplayer-focused games with SP. If it's like Unreal Tournament 3, where the campaign has you going from cutscene to cutscene with multiplayer modes against bots in between, I probably won't be getting this at all. I'm waiting for a sale if I do but this information could be a dealbreaker.

After the lootbox stuff in MP, this is honestly the only thing that has me somewhat excited for the game but they're still refusing to show more of the gameplay.

The fact that one month to the game we haven't seen a proper gameplay video for the campaign speaks really loud.

So like me, you expecting a campaign in the vein of the previous ones. With a bit of luck a little better because a studio with no responsibility on the multiplayer side is handling this but still within bounds of whats possible with the assets/engine/resources/time given.

So they insist that there's a SP campaign in SWBF2, eh? Considering that we saw exactly zero gameplay from it and this trailer doesn't show any either and we're about a month from launch I'm about 90% sure at the moment that this "campaign" will be a series of cinematics mixed with bot matches on MP maps.

Hope it's good, I will wait for impressions before buying it...and probably a decent sale. The Beta did very little for me, but I am not much of a MP person anymore. The survival stuff (if it's in again) and the campaign are the only things that really interest me.

Pretty much. Galactic Conquest would be nice, too. But I have yet to hear anything which is a shame.

And so what? Studio being different doesn't make assets, engine and resources to make said campaign different. You talking like a different studio from the same company would do a totally different game.

It's Star Wars, the maps are places on known planets. There's nothing wrong by default about (re)using those. The question is what's happening there.

You know what's funny? The original games that people love to jerk over only had bots on multiplayer maps as their campaigns.

Lol I was wondering is someone was gonna mention this. :D

Story being written my the Spec Ops the Line writers is all I need to get excited for it.

Campaign is make or break for me , I have 0 interest in the multi so if I buy it it’s purely for the campaign .

Looks fantastic , I’m curious how they tie all the eras into the story .

Please no!

Is that a possibility?

I´m not up to date on this game at all.

Im aware of this thank you. The fact that they have to specify that they have maps for singleplayer only is a tad worrying as I read it.

Also, I'm not entirely sure that singleplayer means campaign/story, but I guess that's just me.

No one is, all the videos we've seen on the campaign are in the vein of the one released today, so it's pretty much draw your own conclusions.

I was looking forward to the campaign, mostly for the new story and other things it would add to the universe...but this trailer just gives the impression they're just recycling multiplayer elements/maps to shove them in. I wasn't going to get it for a while but this has lowered my hopes for it. There are some cool looking moments there, but overall it feels like it's just doing something with these things because they have them for multiplayer, it feels a bit lazy in some ways. You've got
Theed, Takodana, Maz, The Millenium Falcon, Luke, Leia, Han, Kylo
...it's like they're just shoving in everything and everyone they can. I was hoping for something more unique and personal than just a "Greatest hits" sort of thing all the 'important' things in universe just happen to be encountered by her. It feels so forced.

MP maps are fundamentally different in design. SP maps are more linear and build in intensity as you progress. MP maps have 2 protected endzones acting as spawn points and a central section allowing for back-and-forth attacks. I'm fine with edited versions of those maps that reuse their assets, but not just being plunked down in there with bots and told to "win" the round to advance the story.

Reusing assets != reusing maps.

I dont have a problem with mp and sp maps using the same planets as long as they don't use the same maps.

Looks good. Interested to see how it plays out. Hoping it's significantly longer than 4 hours. 10-12 is probably too much to ask for, but please be around 8...

Its not made by DICE.
Motive. New studio helmed by Jade Raymond. Story written by Walt Williams (Spec Ops The Line) and Mitch Dyer.

I swear people know this by now but still spout this shit on purpose.

We need to pin this at the top of every new page or something. Maybe it would stem some of the shitposts.

Yes, it's a possibility, as that is exactly what BF1 was. But that campaign was developed in house along with the multiplayer, this one has been outsourced to a different dev team from day 1 and it has a serious writer attached.

It may very well end up being just that, but people acting like it's a forgone conclusion are just looking to shit on the game any way they can.

How would people react if Iden was the new canon's Mara Jade?

I'd fly into a fit of nerd-rage. #NotmyMara

Really hope the game doesn't end with you realizing that the Empire is actually bad and swapping sides. I hate it when games do that.

Well Battlefront 2 has 3 modes - A Single-Player campaign, Arcade and Multiplayer. Arcade is also CO-OP, so that couldn't be what they're referring to. Multiplayer is also clearly not what they're referring to.

I don't see how specifying that some locations (not maps) are single-player only is at all worrying. If anything it shows that they didn't build the campaign entirely around the elements found in the story mode.

The reason for going to Theed/Naboo is probably their take
on that part of Operation: Cinder from the Shattered Empire comic.
. I don't think they're making us go there just because of "greatest hits"

Am I being fucking gaslighted or something? BF1 did not literally only use MP maps to my recollection.

Well, as I've said, they still haven't shown any gameplay from the alleged SP campaign which is quite worrying at this point.

Also, as others said, pretty much all SWBF titles had "SP campaigns" that were nothing more than botmatches on MP maps.

Cool trailer, but alot of it seemed to be pieces of things weve already seen, pieced together. Didn't notice any gameplay either..??

It's obvious, she is Rey's mother!

With the game being canon I hope they actually deliver a good story. Even if the gameplay is only "multiplayer-maps with bots", a good story should be the minimum for a canon Star Wars game.

That said, AFAIR the original Battlefront II had a campaign on multiplayer-maps - at least on the PS2 - and I really liked it. So maybe it's not necessarily a bad thing.

Literally no one's doing this. Because we don't know. We have no idea. They are not showing us anything. We are just waiting to see, fearing it may be, hoping it won't be. What's so hard to understand of all this?

It's not even the minimum for canon movies, lmao ;P

Well to me having to specify that you have maps built specifically for the story on a game that features a story mode is a bit worrying, yes. The fact that there are only four of them is also not great, but if the campaign's length is similar to the previous ones then that's on par.

To me it just feels like they're trying real hard to convince there's a SP game worth playing behind all this but they haven't showed it yet, not even today in a trailer FOR that game mode.

Some people in this thread are bothered because some of us we're seeing red flags and they expect us to ignored them because "it's not made by DICE!!!oneone".

Dont worry, 2 exclusive maps, an hour of cinematics and a couple of objective base gameplay in recycled MP maps isn't the most expensive to do but it will make people buy this game for SP.

Just like BF1.

Stop buying DICE game for SP.

Its because the "red flags" you are "seeing" are a result of Battlefield 1 or other previous DICE campaigns. Since SWBF2's campaign isn't being made by DICE those "red flags" aren't relevant.

This trailer makes that storyline seem almost guaranteed.

I'm hoping for something a little more nuanced than that, but there's really zero chance she stays hardline imperial throughout. I read the tie-in prequel novel. She's a pretty hardcore imperial, but they clearly set up some seeds of doubt for her. (It's worth checking out imo for those who are into that sort of thing.)

I can understand being worried about the quality based on them not demoing a level. The location thing came from a multiplayer focused trailer, so the "and single-player exclusively has these locations" didn't strike me as odd. Overall though they haven't been showing much, and they've shown the same sequences repeatedly, so I'm not expecting it to be bad as much as I'm expecting it to be ridiculously short.
