SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Pardon my ignorance as I haven't been following this as closely as I once was, but what exactly does this mean? XD

Older rom dumps have a header, as in, a line of information pertaining to the device used to dump the game. Newer rom dumps (like from the No-Intro collection), do not have headers and are considered pure.

Problem is a lot of old patches only work with headered roms and newer patches work with unheadered/pure ones.

Have you tried with these Preset IDs?

A210
A310
B010
B210
1610

Just letting you know that I tested these IDs with Marvelous.

1610 throws a C7 error.
A310 boots, but the aspect ratio is completely crazy with the image going out of the screen.
B210 doesn't boot (black screen).

And with retroarch the game has audio skips and runs slow during hi-res text screens.

Thanks for this since I only tested 1610 and A210 and had the same issues you did. Guess we have to put up with the blurry fonts for now or just use a PC emulator.

so.. i finally got my hands on a snes mini and turned it into a fully awesome SHMUP machine, and it runs 95% of them shmuppies perfectly fine , only having problems with Ketsui , Espgaluda and dodonpachi daj ai ohsomething , i mean the games run perfect , but the sound is a stottering mess , while i have no problems running them on for example a rasperri pi 3, is this something that can be fixed in some audio settings or using another core ? (im using KMFDManic's cores btw)

Would have been nice if you posted your findings, not only would it help the community, but it would have also saved me the trouble.

I designed box art for "Excitebike Bun Bun Mario Battle Stadium", a Satellaview game.

There is a hack floating around that renders the fourth version of the broadcasted game playable as an ordinary snes game (you can skip the satellite waiting times by pressing start for e.g.) and it's playable just fine on the mini!

Obviously, art assets are non existent, so I made do with in game graphics. Use if desired!

Made a US styled cover for the European only game Lucky Luke. Use if desired!

Also... has anyone got Human's SFC game "Waku Waku Ski Wonder Spur" working? I really enjoy this Mario Kart clone!

Sorry if this has been mentioned before or not but what games DONT work ? That way I wont try to add them to my library, or if I stumble upon games that wont work I knkw its not a rom issue.

I picked one up for myself and one for a buddy (NA region), and I'm curious what the most celebrated games are on the platform. Off my head I'd add these from my childhood -

-Chrono Trigger
-Actraiser
-Illusion of Gaia
-FFII (4)
-MM7
-MMX2
-MMX3

I've never played Secret of Evermore or Terranigma. I'd love someone's thoughts on these.

Can you delete some of the existing games on the Classic when you add games? I don't need Kirby's Dream Course or half a dozen of the other games that have aged less gracefully.

What are some obvious omissions in the Classic's NA library I can remedy if I have a platformer / JRPG inclination?

Thanks so much for this thread.

-Evermore plays like Secret of Mana, if you like that, then you'll like this one. The only problem I have with the game, is that areas can be too large and confusing since there are a lot of paths (and hidden paths) and you never know where the exit is. Haven't played Terranigma yet, but everyone says it's good.

-You can't delete the original 21 games, but you can hide them.

-For starters, you could play all those translated JRPGs that never left Japan.

Here's a list of lesser-known titles you might be interested in:

Arcana
A good beginner 1st person dungeon crawler by HAL (of Kirby fame), with a great soundtrack to boot. Try it out, it has an automap feature, so you'll never get lost. And there are no unfair traps in dungeons like most of these types of games. And the music... oh the music.

Brain Lord
Overhead action-RPG with some nice puzzles. By Enix.
LwJGx3U.png

Brawl Bros.
Good beat-em up in the vein of Streets of Rage (Genesis). The sequel, Peace Keepers, is also good. But get the Japanese version (Rushing Beat Shura), because the USA version changed a lot of stuff for the worse.
pVHgGDv.png

Dragon View
Very good action-RPG, sequel to the much like-it-or-hate-it Drakkhen.
ctdTIxB.png

Firepower 2000
This is pretty much the Jackal (NES) sequel we never got. Although this one plays more like a traditional Shoot'em up.
IhmWCX9.png

Hagane
Great ninja action game. This is trully the next gen Ninja Gaiden.
7uNtOiH.png

Ignition Factor
Overhead action game. You play as a fireman putting fires out and rescuing people.
44gwWaX.png

Joe and Mac 2
This sequel went with a non-linear Metroid-like structure. It's pretty good.
8YVSKYC.png

Nosferatu
Plays a bit like Prince of Persia, but there's more action and it's very moody.
ycahHqZ.png

Operation Logic Bomb
Sequel to the Game Boy Fortified Zone. Destroy enemies, open new paths, disarm bombs. If you've played Alien Syndrome, you'll know how this one plays.
21OnxZ3.png

Pocky and Rocky 1 & 2
Shoot'em up goodness mixed with action and RPG elements.
yGT7hDv.gif

Run Saber
Plays just like Strider, although it's very easy.
5vzoD2L.gif

Shadowrun
One of my favorite "RPGs". Great atmosphere, great music, strange characters. You have to ask questions to people to advance the story. It's a mix of adventure with point-and-click elements.
yz26nhj.png

Super Adventure Island 2
This one they went with a non-linear Metroid-like structure. It's pretty good too.
k2soPEd.jpg

Super Ninja Boy
Nice RPG from this long-running series (in Japan).
ZvMcCdF.png

Twisted Tales of Spike Mcfang
Quirky Adventure-RPG starring a Vampire.
WWdiNfP.gif

Ultimate Fighter
Decent action game with RPG elements from this long-running series (in Japan). Sequel to Flying Warriors for the NES/GB.
Onis2Z7.png

Wild Guns
Great arcade lightgun shooter (minus the lightgun).
AcW8vXK.png

X-Men Mutant Apolcalypse
Decent action game by Capcom.

Got one randomly today (walked into a place and asked and they actually had one).

Want to do this, but worries I will brick it. On a scale of 1-6, difficulty?

I added a boatload of games to the main progam, not on the snes yet though.

Lots of games gave me errors about some patch, sorry cant recall what it said exactly. What do I do in this case ?

Vague I know but hopefully someone knows what I am referring to.

If you want them to work, then you say yes.

Watching a video now that states you can also play MAME and PSX games...wuh!? Is this true?

Yes, it's possible... But the available storage is not enough for the most common Psx games. So I kept mine with only SNES games installed, and also avoiding to rely on Retroarch due to storage constraints.

Sorry to ask, but I’ve been struggling to find.
What is the best location for high quality SNES hakchi boxarts?

What's keeping me from digging into this is worrying about the little thumbnails on the bottom. If I have too many games, they won't all appear, right?

So I should make a few folders?

What do you guys recommend for simplicity sake?

I went over and didn’t notice th thumbnails not being enough.m as had disabled folders. May add folders back and break things down. Think just a preference thing as to if you want everything in one spot or not

Folders/pages is better. You can't have more than 60 games per page, and even if you could, scrolling through 60 games to get to the one you want would be awful. And if you don't want the thumbnails and cursor going off screen, you need to have fewer than 30 games per folder/page.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the square covers!

But there were covers that I didn't like (e.g. normally I prefer the Super Famicom covers), or games that I think that didn't have one. That's why I made a lot of covers, use them if you like! ^^
