I'm curious, did either of you play BotW? If so, what did you make of it?

I ask because that's another open world game that gets a lot of love around here, with the occasional few that really didn't dig it- myself included. Wondering whether there's any correlation.

I actually have no clue what they mean when Horizon is shit. That game runs circles around BOTW.

Yeah I feel you on BoTW, I was seriously disappointed because they pushed it as the second coming of Jesus, and it heavily was under those expectations set by the community.

It's just an open sandbox that's all.

But yeah you should like Horizon, the story was pretty cool. The combat is really fun, and it takes a good game to make me want to come back every day and play it.

Didn't play Zelda either. But I did lose 20 hours of my life to Horizon. Dreadful characters, stupid story, meh gameplay, and ANOTHER open world collectathon "SURVIVAL" slog. Just an uninspired effort all around. It's setting isn't even unique, since not a month after its release, Nier Automata did the exact same setting (robo apocalypse) but better in every way.

And I think you're the one who's in for a rude awakening, my friend, since you're downplaying Horizon and have no idea what you're talking about. It's one of the biggest new IPs this gen and one of the best games this year and ever made. It's going to butt heads with Zelda and Mario and it's going to be a fight between those three. You're delusional if you think otherwise.

Where in reality, Horizon is one of the biggest new IPs all gen, biggest new IP this year, one of the best games to come out this year and broke boundaries for a studio who's never done something of the sort. Guerrilla deserves all the praise.

Being a massive Zelda fan. Zelda disappointed me more than anything. Despite it having the advantage from my eyes yet Horizon surprised me and blew me away. At the end of the day, Horizon came out the better game on my end but you don't see me running around saying "HAHA ZELDA IS SHIT!"

If push came to shove, those would be my picks too.

But while I’ve yet to finish Odyssey or P5, my preliminary vote would likely go to Horizon. I would more seriously consider PUBG if it weren’t still, quite clearly, in beta condition.

You guys better vote for Spider-Man as most anticipated. The thirst is absolutely real judging by that 40mil+ views of the announcement trailer.

It hurts though cause TLOU2 and RDR2 are obviously hype as hell too, but Spidey gets that vote. This could be the first proper Spidey game we get. Our Arkham treatment.

Shit Zero was this year? I totally forgot since Kiwami also came out. While Zero made people take notice of this Series I think Yakuza 6 can have good chances for a GOTY nominee 2018^^

otherwise pretty ok list. Sadly my GOTY Divinity Original Sin 2 is not nominated for GOTY...

As for PubG its not only because of the game but about the impact this games left It surpassed games like DOTA, Became the most watched game on Twitch and still is and it started a wave of Battleroayal like games or modes for different games. like a GTA5 online.

It's in the sense truly pushed the birth of a new genre of games, I'm not saying it's the first, but it's the first to truly popularize it.

I thought Zelda would have it on lock by now but Mario being as good as it is could dilute the Nintendo vote, and open a chance to another contestant. Sony always has a very strong fanbase too, so who knows for Horizon.

Also surprised that Nier didn't make it since I thought it had a higher MC than HZD?

edit: no, actually HZD just edged it out.

Honestly, Horizon was a good game, I had fun with it, beat it, forgot about it a month later. To me, it didn't do anything new. It felt like a better twist to Assassins Creed. Well worth my money. Put about 40 hours into it.

Zelda to me, someone who hasn't been too long of a fan of the series, just blew me away. The amount of polish and detail, as well as innovation of the genre, can easily be seen in the game. I literally had a huge smile on my face all 100+ hours I have been playing. This is why to me Zelda wins out. I just had more fun playing? Is it a perfect game? Fuck no, the next zelda better improve on the formula, but still beats out the rest.

The Frozen Wilds is incredible. Blood & Wine and The Old Hunters level. Horizon has a huge chance to win. As does PUBG. Mainly because Nintendo fans will be split voting between Mario and Zelda, so neither of them will get as much as they would have if there was just one there. Where as, every PlayStation fan is voting for Horizon. Persona 5 gets lost in the dust since it's just too niche and doesn't have a fanbase as big as these others. Still massive exposure for the game for just being nominated so I'm happy for Atlus.

Of those games BoTW is numbero uno, with Mario as a close second. To me Horizon doesnt belong there, to me it was a Far Cry game with pretty graphics. It didnt do anything for me, the gameplay was dull and cookie cutter. And the voice actors, oh man. Would've been better off if it was released in 2013 or such.
