Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Review Thread

This will be my first RPG game in quite sometime. I'm excited for it. Sadly with 5 other Switch games to beat as well it will take a lot of time to finish XC2.

There's just no way the sequel could ever top the greatness of the original. That cast, that story, and that Wii... Best JRPG in years in which none have surpassed it.

I really need to strike that one off of my backlog. I played it for around an hour when it came out and I loved the fact that the combat had similarities to FF12's combat system.

Disciple Lorithia made me dropped the previous game. That fight was impossible for me. Loved the game till that encounter

Still looking forward to play XC2.

Any review mentions how long it takes to finish the game in a relatively straigtht line? And how is the difficulty?

Like me and many others, the one thing to know is to have alot of ether damage, seen people blindly win that fight due to understanding that ether is the "special attack" stat of xenoblade, Mellia is excellent for that fight i heard.
If you still got that savefile, beating that game is super recomended.

For Lorithia, I simply raised my party's level. You have to remember that a single level makes a huge difference in Xenoblade. Lorithia was one of 2 roadblocks for me. But it's worth it to keep going.

This reviewer didn’t like the difficulty spikes:

The gameplay is actually kind of fun but the difficulty curve is badly managed. There’s no reason for random battles with lower-level enemies taking upwards of ten minutes.
It was a genuine struggle to get past the difficulty spikes and bloated systems to get to the nuggets of fun hiding beneath.
If you played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with a cheat device or walkthrough it would probably improve the experience, because you could bypass all the boring grinding and rough difficulty spikes.

Persona 5 is not bad anime imo.
Its high quality well written adult stuff.

Xeno 2 kinda looks like bad anime.
Childish generic character artstyle
Meh voices.

I did order the game but i really have no clue if i will like it.

I disagree. Xenoblade 2 is not bad anime imo.

As someone playing P5 right now: Yes, it's disappointingly written and full of anime tropes. But, Xenoblade 2 doesn't look much better; the trailers and previews all look straight out of 'Tales of" games.

Interesting review. It's from the POV of someone who didn't like the original XC. And, some of his criticisms seem fair. I loved XC, did not love XCX, and micromanaging a bunch of systems and menus can be tedious. But, all other things considered, I'm reasonably sure XC2 is a game I'll enjoy.

But, no game is right for everyone.

I honestly di never find the appeal in Xenoblade. What I really never could understand is the praise of the story back then. To me it was just standard JRPG stuff. But I also play a ton of them.

The first was just called Xenoblade Chronicles, on Wii and 3DS. The game being discussed for porting to Switch is Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U), which is actually the second game. I never played it.

Either way I don't think playing in chronological order matters.

Oh, I always that X was a remaster. Now I’m depressed that I’m 2 games behind!

It was the Nintendo crowd, not many play RPGs

You called Persona 5's writing high quality earlier, so I can't really take you seriously. Again, the premise of society being it's own worst enemy is supter interesting, but the game does nothing with it, there is 0 character progression and the pacing is god awful. I like the game but it certainly doesn't have "high quality writing".

It wasn't the story that stood out for me. It was the mixture of rewarding open-ended exploration and traditional jrpg progression.

Not true at all. It's well regarded in RPG communities in general.

Beautiful looking game and the scope seems rather vast. However, having watched some videos, the english VA (and the script) felt too damn cringe worthy. Honestly, after having watched a shit ton anime, I have come to realize that most of these quirky dialogues and tones do not translate well into english. Hopefully, they have or will have an option to use JP VA with english subs for those who feel the same.

You can already play with Japanese voices and english subs. There's a free dlc with the japanese dub in the eshop.

Super pumped to play this on the Switch. I got the special Pro Controller with this but it's likely that I'll play this on handheld mode for most of the game.

Any video options for this game? Specifically looking to disable or minimize the in game HUD/UI.

Looks way too cluttered.

Any help would be very appreciated

Is there no way to turn off the HUD? I'm taking mad screen shots, but that damn hud.

Regardless its my new favorite game on switch. Octopath got some big shoes to fill for best rpg on the system
