Seriously, this is the best show done by Netflix in years. (I liked it WAY more than the disappointing ST s2)

It's like an amalgamation of Stephen King, Nolan, Lynch and Fincher.
It's beautifully shot, very tense and well... um... DARK.

Plot is super engaging and will keep you guessing and obsessing over every detail (and yup, they all matter)

Just remember to turn off the god-awful English dub and go German audio + Eng subs.

Watch the pilot and come thank me later.

It's a crime how poorly Netflix is promoting this wonderful show.

Trailer (I'd recommend going in blind, but if you have to....)

You didn’t really explain what it was.

From the trailer: It’s basically German stranger things for adults cause there’s guns and murder

Already on the fourth episode and yet again I'm reminded of why EU dramas (aside from UK stuff) are such a palette cleanser. Gritty and dark which incidentally fits the theme of the show.

And yea, if possible, it's best to watch it English Subs and original German audio.

PS: I did love ST S2 though XD

You didn't really explain what it was.

The only thing it was common with ST is that it's based in a different time than our present and it being sci-fi.

It explores the nature of time (again, I am only on the fourth episode).

For me, Stranger Things was more like Gremlins than E.T. and that's not a positive. I am not a fan of monster movies. Is Dark a monster show or something more creative. I was so disappointed to find out the mystery in Stranger Things boiled down to a monster.

I did it to save you from spoilers but, basically it's this small-town mystery about a kid disappearing.... BUT this is where the similarities with ST end.

It's closer to IT (However there's no monster...)

Could a mod change the thread's title to:
DARK (Netflix) OT | The question is not WHY should you watch it, but WHEN?

It does seem well-produced so I am interested regardless. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a German-language tv show either.

Watching ep 1. The atmosphere is nice, but ugh, some dialogue sounds so unnatural, nobody in Germany talks like that (that old lady ... lol).

And there's already so much personal drama that I hate, but that's part of pretty much any tv show these days, I guess :/

And on I go.

Well I can't really speak German so I won't comment on that...
But yeah. It's a psychological thriller at its core, and it does deal quite a lot with the people's psyche, relationships and dramas.

Episode 1 done. It's intriguing and I'll continue watching in a moment. At the same time I'm wary about a German thriller/scifi tv-show. Too much goes wrong when German movie makers strive off the usual WW2/DDR-drama or crime show. But it's a promising start.

Starting episode 4 now. It's still interesting, although some elements feel ... forced. I'd say the worst offender is the music that often plays too thick on a scene, as if to push into the audience's face 'BE EXCITED!'. Certainly taken from us television, but with less subtlety.

Also lol:
Milf to son: 'You don't have to go to school today. We can do something fun. Just the two of us. *smiles at him*'

Yeah, my mind is too dirty for that scene ;)

Well Europeans are way more open-minded, aren't they? :D

Lol, stop watching if you don't find it exciting by ep 4. I'm on ep 8 and will finish it today. Great show, although I dread the cliffhanger ending that was mentioned.

Binged the whole thing, it was pretty good. Although the episodes start getting crazier near the end, it was a little telegraphed.

Man I tell ya, don’t watch it while drinking or when your tired, subs go by too fast sometimes, and the English dub feels so disjointed.

Cool story though!

That's because they don't care. Starting in 2018 30 % of their content has to be made in Europe or they will be shut down here. That's the only reason the show exists.

We have something similar here in Brazil too. I hate it. Companies shouldn't be forced to do anything. It's not like Crunchyroll will start producing Brazilian Anime, doesn't make sense. Netflix is an international company and it is bound to distribute more international content than national ones.

Can I get a link. My first thought is that's kind of heavy handed.. but maybe there is a reason

Man this first episode was amazing. Love how dark it is too. Was so planning on them not even showing the hanging in the beginning and having them cut away, but they didn't!

Also definitely watch in German with English subtitles. It's so much better.

Thanks for the recommendation. First episode was good and I want to watch more.

Your right, the dub is terrible but I really don't want to read subs for the whole season. Probably get easier a couple episodes in.

It was pretty good up until near the end, then it all kinda fell apart and got weak. Wish I wouldn’t of finished it and left it a mystery...

Watched 5 episodes, wasn't my thing. It moves too slowly for me. Also, the dub is way more jarring than I was expecting it would be.

Agreed on the dub. I had to give up on it, or not look while I watched it which, you know, isn't the point of watching a TV show, I guess. I can understand why others would dig it though.

Just watched the whole thing over the last couple of days. I'd say it's the best thing I've binge watched since True Detective season 1. If you liked the new Twin Peaks and you were looking for something to replace it then you will probably love this. Watch with subtitles, not the dub.

I love the intro song, it's so Silent Hill-ish

It's by Apparat for anyone that wants to know - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66VnOdk6oto

Just finished the season. Thanks for the tip, I watched it solely based on this thread. Not bad. I love the atmosphere, the cinematography, etc. Story ended up being a little so-so, there are way too many threads, and the pace definitely started to drag during the last 3 or 4 episodes (or maybe the pace stayed the same throughout, but it just started to get to me near the end, haha). But still, good times. Definitely excited for season 2. Too bad we probably won't get it till about 2019, which the internet points out is an appropriate year for this series to come back.

Like others have said, I'm kind of annoyed I haven't heard of this show outside of this thread?? Stupid Netflix.

One note: I can't believe what an evil manipulative shit
Hannah
is. I've known people like this, though, so it rings true.
