New Alien Game in Development!

Why would anyone pay for the Alien licence just to make a generic shooting game? Maybe I have it backwards? Maybe they wanted a generic shooter game and snagged a licence to help it sell? I dunno...

It's being made by Cold Iron Studios. These are ex-Cryptic Studios employees (City of Heroes, Neverwinter and Star Trek Online, etc.).

Also to add this should have been in production since 2016. Since this studio has had their new game in dev for that long. If it's the same game? If not then their other one probably got cancelled or turned into this.

Honestly, I'm such a huge Alien fan that I'm just happy to know another game is being made. However I do second the idea of a sequel to Isolation, the game was phenomenal. I'd also like a new and GOOD AVP title with solid multiplayer. I want a proper sequel to AVP2. :(

Alien as a shooter really does not make sense whatsoever.
What do you mean? It was the films that established all the weapons, lore and the shoot-bang theatrics. Not the games.
The games just roll with it.
Ever play Alien Trilogy? It was a fairly decent doom clone that made use of the weapons introduced in Aliens.

I am more with the isolation in space and fear of the unknown themes than shooting like a mad marine killing aliens like fodder

My point is just that Xenomorphs are practically invulnerable to bullets. It takes a metric shit-ton to actually cause any serious damage to a xenomorph using just bullets. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the direction that Alien: Isolation was taking.

Fox bought the studio, so this isn’t technically a licensed game. It’s an in-house game.

Also, the aliens get blown to pieces by bullets pretty easily if I remember Aliens correctly. They are just hard to hit.

This is not the kind of alien game i expected. Doesn't sound very good imo a online action first person alien game :(

I want Isolation 2 or the alien rpg cancelled by obsidian but not a first person action online game :(

The guys who made Neverwinter? That's a big pass for me then

It can be an online marine FPS and also still be a deep RPG-ish type game with deep story at the same time hopefully. There's so much potential with what can be done good here, its amazing. But hopefully they dont fuck it up. I'd love to travel between different colonies and meet new human characters(friend or foe), and maybe have squad mechanics, and tense moments low on ammo welding doors shut and setting up turrets while aliens come from everywhere. Fuck ACM, imagine what it COULD have been, but done right, on steroids. Having moments without any weapons Alien Isolation-like, and having to creep around to regroup would be essential, too.

A good BLEND of Alien/Aliens is key here. They need to combine the horror of alien isolation with the 'action'/tension of Aliens. They should take the alien isolation AI, and pretty much apply it to multiple Aliens at once in gameplay(with additional improvements like wall-climbing, etc). Aliens should be to scale. Ammo should be effective, but scarce. Acid blood should hurt. A lot. (and possibly deform geometry). Animations for marines and especially the Aliens of course should be TOP NOTCH. Mechanics should be deep. Welding/cutting doors, arming/setting-up turrets(with limited ammo), barricading with objects around the room, setting up cameras etc.....it should be like the ultimate seige-game. Fuzzy monitors should be set up where you can see in-gameplay the aliens coming in real time.

And of course other character moments, drama, world building etc. It should be a long well-writen, believable, story.

I'd like W-Y and the movie's(Alien 1-3 only) plots to be relevant somehow, but not necessarily in the spotlight. This would all need to be great in execution of course. Anyway, this is just my dreams for a great alien(s) game, and although far-fetched, a new alien game announcement is always a time to appreciate and get a bit hyped for!

^ this guy gets it. Make it squad based and either fortify and survive or plan invasions on nests to clean them out.

SWAT 3/4 in bigger scale and combined with X-com like resource building.
Yup, I would buy that.

Alien game... Online shooter....

Not interested.

Too early to make assumtions like that. Like I posted above, an Alien 'shooter' could still be great. doesnt have to be a "pew pew" fest. ACM poisoned the well, but I still want a great alien game with marines. Horror can absolutely still be an aspect.

I really did enjoy Isolation and I hope to hear it come back but at the same time, Alien Trilogy is one of my favourite games of all time. I'd love a Colonial shooter where you try and survive in an infested colony. Bring the horror and action. An Alien game made in the same mechanics and style as Resident Evil VII would be amazing.

Just don't be an MMO or online shooter. Please.

I would love an alien game that didn't take as many liberties with the xenomorph like isolation did. I loved the game but some things were just wierd to me

Thing is....usually horror and action are at odds with each other, as you must slowly build the tension for proper horror... which means not much action.

Just look at the first 2 movies. Aliens has a lot more action than the original but wasn't nearly as horrific.

It's probably going to be horseshit.

And I'm probably going to play it day 1 anyway because I'm so starved for anything Aliens-related. It's a crime how few Aliens games we get, and that even fewer of them are worth playing.

What did you find amiss with the Alien in Isolation? The AI behind it was sometimes a bit too obvious (especially the "leash" to the player), but it was the closest we've ever got to a xeno from the first movie.

This is the way that Aliens should be done I believe . Isolation was good and all but that isn't the way that I know Xenomoprhs to behave. The action sequences in Aliens were terrifying because no matter how well equipped they were , how well trained , how much technology they had , they still got fucked up...being a badass will only get you so far against them ...

Well the behavior of the Xenomorph was off in my opinion . First off you can't hide from one ... they'll smell you . Also , I can't remember if it's canon as it's been a while , they had a 6th sense of sorts , the could sense your emotions or something . It was used to manipulate the dreams of people to believe that they were god to sacrifice themselves to . So basically it's be like trying to hide under a table from a psychic bloodhound hopped up on caffeine . Another thing they act like large predators so to see one just walking down a hallway nonchalantly was...odd.. they always attack from the shadows like a tiger does no matter how much their prey may not be a threat . I know it's nitpicky but I love Aliens and would love to see something like the 2nd movie last stand type thing going on..

They should make a 3rd person action game in the vein of Dead Space we've had the 1st person shooters, so maybe go in another direction with it..

I really only want a sequel to Isolation. That game was amazing and I feel wasn't fairly evaluated by gaming sites. Is Creative Assembly completely against making another one? I would suspect an isolation-esque in VR would sell much better than the original.

Sega hand over the rights back to Fox. Probably cause Isolation bombed so hard.

Ah, okay. I see what you mean.

The thing is, Isolation was based on Alien alone. I know it's weird, but many people tend to see Alien and Aliens as two almost different movies, because of how they changed the xenomorph between the two. They were both really good movies, but for two very different reasons. That's why you can't really think of the xenomorph in Isolation in terms of anything that game after the first movie.

I don't know if you've ever seen the director's cut of Alien, but in it there's a scene that introduces the idea of eggmorphing- humans being turned into eggs rather than eggs being laid by a queen. I'm not sure if it was ever confirmed 100%, but before release it was strongly implied that that's how the Xenos reproduce in Isolation. They were very faithful to the first movie and the first movie alone.

As for the telepathic thing, I think I know which media you're talking about. I think it was called Earth Hive or something like that. Originally comic books that were about Newt and Hicks after the events in the second movie. I recall it used to be canon, but when the third movie was released they decided it wasn't canon anymore and made the creators change the character names. Or something to that effect, I might be misremembering some details.
I read the novelization a few years ago and they changed Newt and Hicks to Billie and Wilks respectively. They were a bit pulp-y by, but I really enjoyed reading them. Made me sleep uneasy a few nights too.

Sorry to slightly derail, why don't you think it was fairly evaluated?

Back to the original topic, I would be happy with a Gears Horde style game, holding out for Evac using limited resources and character classes that work within the franchise. It would also give the opportunity to use locations from any of the films (Prometheus included) and potentially drop in Predators at a later date (yes yes not happening). Or just update A v P ...

Z Zewp is correct, the first two films treat the Aliens very differently, there has been so many slight variations in the comics and books. I would assume there is some limits to what they can do or add within the licence

Isolation was the most fun I’ve had with any Alien game(I’ve probably played them all). It’s also the most terrifying, anxiety inducing game that makes you really work for the objectives. I loved it. It was easily my favorite game of that year.

It’s very upsetting that they aren’t making a sequel because the game genuinely felt special. I’m a huge fan of Alien and hope they do at some point, but looks like they’re looking to recreate Aliens(and the subsequent films) instead. That’s ok, and I’ll definitely be picking it up if/when it releases.
