LTTP, The Last Guardian

WOW. i love this game. The Last Guardian is a masterpiece. its ps3 game brute forced to play on a PS4 console. i waited more than 12 years to play this game and i am still soooo impressed by the Trico, this mystical beast, which is a bird, dog, cat hybrid... and soooo annoyed at it at the start of the game where it mimics a real life creature and won't listen to you. yes the game does have problems, with camera and trico won't respond sometimes but i absolutely loved the relationship between the boy and the trico. being a fan of Fumito Ueda, i loved ICO and shadow of the colossus. yes i'm a fanboy of his game. his world are surreal, unlike any other, a magical mysterious world filled with secrets. his game are not simply video games ,its art in its best fort. games like this are so rare and unique, no wonder they are remaking SOTC. i'll end my brief review and say, the last guardian is a special game that should be played. its easy to look other its flaws, its a diamond in the rough, i still prefer SOTC still. 9/10

Glad you enjoyed the game. It's games like this that always differentiated Sony's library of exclusives from those of other platform holders. Sony knows that this type of diversity is one of their biggest strengths and that's why they kept funding the game for so long.

Like once a month I try to get into this game. I just can't. Darn shame, I remember being so excited for it.

In 2009.

It's a special treasure, yet clearly one only a small fraction of the gaming community can enjoy. I need to clear out my backlog so I can get a replay of this in! The VR demo reminded me how much I loved the game.

I just picked this up during the holidays and it's on my "play soon" stack. I've only ever played Ico on the Ps2, so this will be a treat for sure.

I just wish they would patch out the nanny hints.
Why do I need to be reminded of the controls constantly throughout the game? It didn't run the game, but it did detract from it.

LOVE this game! I just tried out the VR demo and holy crap!! I hope they do the whole game in VR because it is so much better. It’s amaz!

I was one of the minority that had no issues with Trico. Things were mostly smooth from beginning to end. He was not always immediate to respond, but he was so believable as a "real" creature that it was easy to maintain a modicum of patience when necessary.

Ueda continues to demonstrate his mastery of minimalism and mystery within his narratives. Really another unforgettable experience from, who I consider to be, a master of the medium.

I thought it was absolute dross, I hated it. Played it for about two or three hours hoping for it to get interesting and it just didn’t.

- Oh look, it’s a new area
- What a turn up for the books, there’s the platform I can’t reach/wooden blockage I need to break
- Let me call cat bird over to help
- Here, have a barrel
- Oh yeah, here’s the part where we split up until...
- Oh look, it’s a new area
*rinse/repeat*

It was like a three hour tutorial with HIDEOUS controls and a frankly unusable camera.

Trico was admittedly a wonder to behold and the little boy had some really cute animations but yeah, awful game that felt like a relic of the past.

I got it on christmas and powered through it in a week because it was so good.

Chugs like a mofo, but damn if it's not a great experience.

The game was hamstrung by a clear PS3-development cycle, some dodgy controls. But my GOODNESS did I love it. The FEELS! And the ending! AAAAAHHH.

Worth every penny.

I really wanted to like the game, played it probably for around 4 hours and got too frustrated with the controls and Trico not performing the actions I wanted.

I really liked the fact that Trico didn’t follow your commands perfectly, from what I understand if you had the patience to see out the whole game he grew to trust you more and became more obedient. I think that’s a great touch.

The problem was the boy didn’t follow your commands perfectly either! The controls were so sluggish and heavy, everything felt like a chore. I honestly can’t remember a game with worse controls.

And the camera? Fuck me, it’s like someone else was controlling it entirely....

There were flashes of the game being more than a dull, really basic platformer but I wasn’t willing to ignore the piss poor design and execution to find out.

Just finished the game yesterday. Put it off for so long as I was worried about it not living up to my expectations. Thankfully I can say that wasn't the case and the whole experience was a delight.

The camera, controls and tutorial pop ups definitely were a huge annoyance but I summoned my will power and pushed through besides that. Actually the most annoying part about the camera were the cuts to black and it would jump to a different angle, this made me feel like I was losing control and broke the immersion a bit.

Good game overall and a worthwhile experience.

A little patience goes a long way. Amazing game.

Not for everyone of course, takes a special kind of gamer to enjoy it

I wanted to love it, but frustration of control and and the reaction of the beast killed it imo, so still SOTC is the best

As much as i loved shadow of the colossus, this game simply sucks. I have a hard time getting around the area as well as adjusting the camera. Another pooper is the fact that this game continously runs sub 30fps. THIS WAS A PS3 GAME how can you run like this?

It was an okay game but frustrating at times because you had to figure out what to do not only for yourself but also for Trico and sometimes it was hard to tell if you were doing the wrong thing or if Trico just wasn't listening to you. This might be one of those games that I gain some nostalgia for in a few years but for now I have no plans to play it again. I thought Ico and SotC were both better, personally.

I might have to watch a let’s play on YouTube to see why everybody cried playing this. I’d probably cry trying to find out for myself.

I bet catbird dies in the boy’s arms or some shit.

Is there no official thread for the almost-out PS4 remake?

They updated the controls. Now you can play it and have fun! Instead of the original controls, which was like strangling a Tijuana hooker with antlers for a neck.

Fan of the creator and his games, played the game to the end, and i enjoyed the story, but i believe it is very badly mixed with the game play,
I found the game to simple and very hard to finish, there was nothing keeping me there, and the moments when you bound with trico were few and far between.

i liked the game but for me it was a disappointment after 12 years of waiting

I respect your posts and opinions on NeoGAF mate. I haven't yet experienced a Team ICO game but I plan to play through one this year. I have access to every system that they have their games on. Which game (and version) would you recommend as my first Team ICO experience? I was planing to play TLG but your post made me question that decision.

Still haven't decided to bother buying it. I heard so many mixed reactions it completely turned me away from the game.

The end section of the game is actually really good, it almost made up for some of the shortcomings for me personally. My main frustration of the game was with some of the segments against the jade armor suits.

The controls could be a bit of a mess at times, but I really enjoyed the game. The ending was very nicely done.

I will probably give it another try somewhere down the line, but it’s fallen right down the stack! I’d have to be REALLY bored to pick this one up again.

Hey, thanks for the kind words,

I whould play the new remake of shadow of colossus first, then ICO and lastly The Last Guardian.

The last guardian has alot of the soul of the first 2 games, and you will apreciate it better, they are very philosofical games in my opinion and a must for every gamer
