Can you even do this bastard solo? Any tips?
Depends on the weapon. If you have fully upgraded armor, hits shouldn't be too bad. Lance is usually the safest way to solo where you can slowly poke them down while blocking everything.

When the Palico distracts him, that's when you have an opening to do a lot of damage. You can also run to a camp to restock if you're low. Bring flash bombs because blind is pretty effective.

Ofc I get Rathian Plate on the very next fight with a Pink one only asking for a common drop right after I decided to give up and use a Silver Wyverian Print to buy it lol. Now I need an Odoragon one.

Yeah, I need a good lance or gunlance to fight diablos. I just hate his digging bullshit, and you can't farm the screamer pods either.

Black Diablos is my most hated monster in the game. It’s just such an annoying fight.

you can farm the screamer pods actually. those flying things over the sand trap on top of Diablos cave? just get a rock ammo or something in your sling and shoot them to lower them down, then skill them and carve them. it's not a 100% drop but just farm them and you'll get plenty soon enough.

looks like everything as usual then. the MonHun Desire Sensor™ is working as intended lol whatever you're desiring, it won't drop until you don't need it no more.

Ah yeah those screaming dudes lol. Eh, I made a gunlance so I can just block and blow its shit away.

Solo'd tempered nerg again. Hunting Horn is just amazing for this because nerg can't deflect the attacks. Finally made my nerg LBG, which is the best one now that slicing is nerfed and spread is better.
Now I need like 15 Vaal Hazak fangs...

Now that I have better armor and weapons, the black diablos is a bit of a pushover. And I never use screamer pods at all. Now tempered Teostra is my new nemesis. I'm gonna have to put together some really good fire armor for this bastard.

Dude, I have maxed everything, and I still have trouble with Black Diablos because it's underground all the time or it charges til it's miles away so I can't do anything.

Is it possible to see my friends in Astera outside of the Gathering Hub? Having trouble with this.

Not possible. They made the gathering hub for multiplayer, but everywhere else is singleplayer. I guess it's for optimization or something.

Capcom should at least add an option to make the gathering hub the default place to go, it would help so much to make the game much more social.

I definitely don't enjoy fighting him now, but it no longer feels like the he was created specifically to torture my mental state.

I was playing in co-op, but my palico having the shock trap gadget and my partner having a paralysis blade created a lot of nice opportunities to get in there and rough him up. We were breaking his horns pretty easily once I started using my ice long sword that has white sharpness. At white sharpness, my weapon doesn't bounce off his face.

5 vaal hazak fangs... lance or great sword? Hmm...

Edit: Went great sword and holy shit, great sword is insane. The true charge attack, I did 636 crit damage in one hit. That's the highest damage number I've seen.

Shock trap loses effectiveness after too many times, or maybe that's for tempered. I have to stand beside a wall so I can actually catch him when he charges.

Oh man, Great Sword is a blast to play, and it can block a ton of shit. It's way better than lance and gunlance, and it doesn't need stupid amounts of charging like chargeblade.

I just critted something for 767 damage. High damage numbers feels good man.

Add Critdraw, and Focus in there, and you're set.

I'm still at low rank, and haven't played online yet (already sunk around 20 hours). Spending most of my time just familiarizing myself with the new maps, and upgrading my GS whenever I get the chance.

Nah, crit draw only applies to the first attack when your weapon is sheathe so it's not going to work on the biggest greatsword attack. I tried focus, but it really doesn't speed up the charge enough to be worth while.

I'm max crit boost, max weakness exploit, max handicraft, attack boost 4. I just need 3 more attack gems. That's filling out all my deco slots.

Doing 40% crit damage on top of white sharpness is already insane.

Didn't realize you were already at that point of the game. Haha. Anyway, that skill set is indeed overkill. Also, white sharpness is back? Hell yeah!

Yeah, I'm HR 90 now. All I have left to do is farm some gems and maybe try out the other weapons.

White sharpness is there, but I heard there used to be purple sharpness. White is as high as it goes, but I think it's necessary for max damage. People go for blue sharpness weapons because they don't have this specific info.

Could you explain that to a simple person like me?

Is you HR level really high? What is the name of the sword you crafted please?

Where do you find critdraw and focus etc. please as mentioned above?

Uh, well if there's anything you want to know, you can ask in this thread.

HR is just about how many monsters you hunted. I just played this game for so long already lol. I guess it shows how long you've played the game, but it doesn't exactly determine skill. There are limits put at level 29, I think, where you have to beat the story to get unlock 29+, and then another challenge at 49 to unlock 49+. Other than that, HR is just to show how many monsters you've hunted.

The sword I crafted is rank 8. You have to get to beat the story to get the materials to make it as a material comes from the final story boss. My current sword is Leviathan's Fury, a Greatsword in the Vaal Hazak tree. Vaal Hazak is one of the elder dragons. I just looked at all the weapons and picked out what I think is the strongest. I think Vaal Hazak is the strongest for most of the high damage melee weapons.

Skills like Crit Draw and Focus are from sets or pieces of armor. I know crit draw comes from the Diablos set, and focus comes from the Black Diablos set. Those are high rank sets. I suggest not worry about picking a final armor in low rank (before HR 15) as you'll replace them with high rank armor that you'll keep.

Thanks for that.

I'm just looking for the right armour / sword combo for Negrigante.

I didn't solo Nerg, but I guess you're challenging yourself not to party.

I can only recommend using buffs like mega demondrug for attack and the armor one. If you can unlock the palico skills, the shield one is really nice.

You'll start to learn how to avoid most of his attacks, so using something that can go in and out really quickly is better. I think dual blades and hammers does the job. I don't know how hunting horn does in lower ranks.
The only thing that really kills you is if you get stunned, or you get hit by his air attack while he's enraged. The trick to avoid his air attack is to roll to the side, then roll diagonally forward and sideways. His smash attacks can have a follow up needle attack that hits everything in front of him, so rolling back doesn't work well.

I never tried it, but using a weapon with block, like the lance I suggested earlier, would be good. Greatsword might leave you very open because it's a slow weapon.

Great explanation by WaterAstro. If you're into hard-hitting/slicing attacks, Greatsword is a good option. There's reduced mobility, but you get to have a shield, and tackle (I think this negates most enemy attacks, and a good way to cancel your charge if need be).

I was able to get Critdraw and Focus early by making a Diablos Headgear (Critdraw Level 1), and Jyuratodus greaves (Focus Level 1). Critdraw basically increases the affinity of your drawing attack, so if a monster is sleeping, you have a higher chance that your charged draw attack will deal crit damage. Focus just quickens your charging time. I realized that when a monster falls down after you have mounted it, with Focus Level 1, you can finish doing 2 charged attacks while its still down, and possible to get the 3rd charged attack by the time it has stood up before it gets a roar or whatnot.

Oops, I'm late.

Trophy hunting is going to be hard for this game. I might not even do it. Getting gold crown on both smallest and largest monster on every monster is going to be so RNG.

KanameYuuki

I'm glad I don't torture myself with trophy hunting anymore, but this is one of those games that would make one so proud to plat, but yeah, that 100 crown is jsut too much, I'm sure with my 60h I've seen like 2.

It's so funny turtling Diablos HR or LR with Lance, poor fella can't do anything, it is like "You have no power here! Begone!"

Is it possible to play the solo?
You can solo, some enemies could be harder like the fast ones since having more people gives you some time to breathe, but like Diablos, that monster most of the time is better to play solo even if they one shot since you will have control of the fight, and even solo you will have your trusting Palico who can heal you/set traps/buff you and if you find ferral Palicos they can help you too and those are surprisingly helpful.

I think its a 50/50

solo allows the polico to take attention most of the time
online allows easy item grinding, as most SOS only take 10-15mins, HR are sub ~10mins

It depends how good your team is. More people means a bigger margin of skill level. I played with people who are pretty terrible and fail the mission. I can solo missions faster than group because of health scaling.

after playing around 100 hours since the release I now somehow lost the will to play the game. Unfortunately the End Game is not really motivating enough to keep me interested in the game (HR 41).

I really hope that we will receive more monsters etc. in the future dlc/updates

Yeah, it's really just a chase after perfect gear and whatever achievements are left. I'm doing it to try out all the weapons. I'm HR 96, and it's really gotten to the end because lucky drops aren't happening for me.

I've been able to solo everything, so I feel pretty good. I'll probably reach HR 100 and maybe play less hardcore.

You haven't gotten to the HR 49 battle, the tempered Kirin, but tempered anything is really just a more damaging normal monster.

Saw the credits roll last night. Great journey so far.

Still got the bug. Can’t wait to play more.

I really enjoyed everything post Zorah. Wasn’t expecting the game to just open up like that (this was my first MH).

Fighting the Elder Dragons forced me to adapt my tactics and how I was approaching fights. I couldn’t just DPS, DPS, DPS, roll out of the way, DPS etc.

I haven’t come across a fight yet where being patient and reading the move set of the monster doesn’t result in a win. Dying to Nergigante was me trying to rush for example, and I killed my first Black Diablos yesterday too without too much trouble.

All about being prepared, I’ve found. I’m really anal about having 10 potions, 10 Mega Potions, 10 herbs and 10 honey at with me at all times when I depart from Astera. Anything beefy and outcomes the Ancient Potions, Max Potions, Mega Armorskins etc.

Only HR27 so got a way to go yet, but it’s been a blast so far.

Solo Duel-Blade btw.

Can you realistically finish this one solo without being punished for it ?

I never wanted to touch previous parts since they were designed only for co-op unlike competing hunting games.

Did they purposely make it hard to find threat level 2 tempered monsters? I got the trophy for killing 50 tempered monsters before ever having a mission with a threat level 2 monster. Insane! You need those to get regular streamstones.

I've killed a bunch of tempered elder dragons and a ton of threat level 1s. I had to go on expeditions and get one footprint at a time on monsters that are level 2 threats for like an hour last night to even get one investigation that had a level 2.

In co-op or multi player, can you view the other weapon / armour sets that people have or do you just see them in your game?

I have so far, no problem.

If I was getting carted by a monster, I upgraded my gear by farming a couple of investigations, or simply got better and tried to understand the monster better.

There’s not a monster I’ve come across so far that doesn’t choreographe their moves or where you can’t read their behavior.

I made an LBG and a new HBG that isn't slice. The LBG is pretty powerful with rapid spread shot and normal shot, but you have to at a really close range. It also needs to be hitting weak points to do a lot of damage, so the spread isn't too great. The new HBG is the Legiana one, which is amazing for pierce shot. Pierce is pretty situational on the monster type, like if it has a big body to do a lot of damage. I still feel like bow is better because it does consistent damage at various ranges, and I don't need ammo for it. The LBG can do a ton of damage, like if all my spread shot crit on a weak point, it probably does like 200 damage a shot, and normal shot 2 does 100 damage, but it needs to be at a certain distance to do that damage. Bow does a consistent 70 damage, while the charged shot three will do 100 damage.

Still, I'd rather melee as I am having a blast with greatsword. I still think dual blades is better for damage, but greatsword has the stagger/knock potential and the block. Block really is amazing for a lot of things. Greatsword is actually faster than it looks, and gets to the most powerful attack faster than charged blade or longsword. I'm getting 600-850 crits with it. With good defense, and decently fast attack, greatsword is my number one weapon now.

Edit: omg just tried Tempered Nerg with it and I blocked his aerial dive bomb one shot. Holy crap, it can block so much! I didn't know!

The grind for the warrior/hero streamstones makes it seem like they just didn't want you to perceive an end to the game. It's the last carrot on a stick, and the stick is 100 yards long.

Yeah, pretty much don't care about them at this point. I want the Hero Shaft for bow, but I'm not getting it. I have like 10 other hero stones.

I almost have everything I could get, so it's almost time to retire. HR 99, so gonna get HR 100 and maybe play it now and then.

When did they add "Bleed" stat effect in the series? I swear MH4 didn't have it, or did it... Moved on with the game, and slayed (capped) my first Odoragon. I was surprised at the bleeding status, and kinda made me panic slightly. I was still able to finish it around 10 mins.

Is Odoragon the fastest monster in this game?

I'm new to MonHun so can't tell you if Bleed was in before. but after fighting all the monsters in game, it definitely feel like Odo and Tobi are the 2 fastest with Odo maybe edging out over Tobi just a little.

on a side note, I finally finished the final boss. another lesson in why you shouldn't play when you're worn out, because I seriously can't focus well as it's 3 in the morning and I just want to finish this part. I know for sure if I'm fighting it fresh I could been able to solo it easily. end up just popping the SOS and got a few JP players helped me with it. now on to the HR grind... lol

btw, is there any way to mute people who's talking in my session when I'm in base? there's some guy who has his mic on and his smoke alarm's battery warning keeps beeping and annoyed the hell outta me.

Uh, I know there's a mute mic option. It's the first thing I did when I heard someone's mic lol. I don't know about individuals.
