Konami Is Thinking About Bringing A New 'Castlevania' Game To The Switch

There's an article on Forbes, which can be read here. Now, I don't exactly know how Forbes site works, but this looks like it's someone's personal blog, not the magazine itself that reports this.
Anyway, it looks like after the success of Super Bomberman R got Konami thinking into reviving Castlevania, which has not seen any main-series releases after Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014. I personally hope this is true, since I love Castlevania. I just wonder who would develop the game for Konami, maybe they'll turn back to Hexadrive?

Anyway, here's the full quote from the site:

In a new interview, it seems that management at Konami is thinking about bringing a new Castlevania game to the Nintendo Switch.
Richard Jones, the European Brand Manager at Konami Europe, in an interview with Miketendo64 talks about the possibility of a new Castlevania game coming to the Switch.

All I can say is that there is lots of internal discussions going on within Konami regarding what games we can bring to the Nintendo Switch, other than Bomberman, a game which we are well aware of its heritage and how loved it and Castlevania is. So much so that Castlevania is getting is getting its own show on Netflix and because of that, we’re hearing a lot of desires from our fans for a new Castlevania series. So we do know there is a demand for a new game, but right now nothing is set in stone as the discussions are still on going.

Konami already released the somewhat decent Super Bomberman R for the Switch at the console’s launch, so it makes sense that the company would examine its back catalog for new games on the console.

The comment about the new Netflix animated series is also worth noting, as that means that Konami is well aware of the marketing ramifications that such a series brings to a franchise like Castlevania.

I definitely think a new Castlevania game for the Switch would be a very good thing but only if it keeps to the classic 2D roots of the series. That’s because the more recent 3D games in the series weren’t exactly great.

In addition, I’d love to see games like Symphony of the Night (shown above) and Rondo of Blood come to the Switch at some point. The latter would especially be a great title to have on the Switch’s eventual Virtual Console service, ideally the original PC Engine version if possible.

Whatever happens, having a third party publisher such as Konami support the Switch with a new Castlevania game is precisely what this burgeoning console needs.

Based on the recently released Metal Gear Survive I wouln't get my hopes up on that one. Will probably cost 10$ for a second save slot, and seeing how they turned "tactical espionage action" into putting up fences and repeatedly stabbing zombies, Castlevania might just turn into a rhytm action game with karaoke battles against draculas minions.

How about a Castlevania for all systems Konami? I am waiting for Rebirth to come out on the PS4, Xbone, or PC since you let it die on the Wii.

They should bring it to all consoles. I hope Konami really starts to make games again. I hope they bring Metal Gear Solid HD Collection to current-gen. It would be easy money.

This is pretty standard, sadly, for the Castlevania series. Many games are made only once for a particular system. Thankfully, over the years, many have been ported to newer consoles. For the longest time Dracula X (the good one) was trapped on the PC Engine. Rebirth, like you said, was left to die on the Wii. Also, Castlevania Bloodlines on the Genesis has yet to see rerelease. It's actually quite hard to think of Castlevania games that were multi-platform upon their initial release.

Also.... I'm not too sure a new Castlevania is something that we really need from Konami. Iga seems to be hard at work on his Bloodstained project. Which, as it so happens, is coming out for the Switch now.

Konami, whatever...

Meanwhile, I'm a Bloodstained contributor, and that's the CV I'll be playing on my Switch (hopefully not too much longer from now).

Since I don't trust Konami with making good games anymore, I would be more than happy if that ended up being a port of Symphony of the Night or the GBA/DS games.

Remasters for all Metroidvanias in a HD collection, specially Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Circle of the Moon

I wouldn't mind a Castlevania Collection to for the Switch. It should include the first 3 from the NES, Super Castlevania, Dracula Chronicles HD remastered from the PSP, and Symphony of the Night w/exclusive Sega Saturn content

Super Bomberman R was success, so is not that weird that they try to do some budget game with a well known franchise. Or maybe the Netflix show was success and they wanted to capitalize on this. Konami is a weird company, is hard to predict their stuff.

Get Iga to do a 2.5D vania game for Switch and everything will be fine. I don't know if the two parties are still in good terms though.

Yeah, considering how catty they were with Kojima and the fact that Iga was reportedly relegated down to what's essentially Konami's mail office before Bloodstained, I'd say that's a burned bridge. He went and effectively made one without their precious help or resources.

Just like they tried with Metal Gear, Konami'll bet on the brand being stronger than the names attached. With Castlevania, unfortunately, that may even be true (My favorite Castlevanias are not by Iga, but that's definitely another opportunity for them to get some nice day 1 sales on brand rather than quality).

My first instinct is just to say I have interest in it. But if they actually put some effort into it, It'd at least make me interested.

If this report has any truth in it, I hope Konami and Nintendo are in talks about including Simon Belmont (or some other character) in the upcoming Smash Bros. game. That would be very interesting way to promote both games, actually. Oh, and there definitely should be Castlevania Mega Collection, with all the games ever released. Actually, I looked into it once, and if you exclude Lords of Shadow 1, all the game would just about fit on a 16GB cart.

I wish. Hell, I'd pay more for a collection without the Mercury Steam entries. =P

Alas, I doubt they want to give up the money they make from selling the games piecemeal on services like the eshop/XBL/PSN. Maybe if they sorted them into collections it would be worth their while to put them on cartridges: Classicvanias, Igavanias, Mercuryvanias... other 3D vanias (the 64 and PS2 games). I just want them to dump them all on Steam, or some other platform that carries over gan to gen (Virtual Console had so much promise before the Wii U, le sigh...)

Bring Goemon, but also Mystical Ninja (64) and Goemon's Great Adventure!!!

And Bomberman 64 and 64 2 and Hero too. Add Bomberman to Smash while we are at it.

Konami thinking about taking Nintendo's money in exchange for a Castlevania game, perhaps. But hey, why not? It would be a real shame for the series to finish with the Mercury Steam games.

Konami can go fuck itself. Has lots of great IPs and not a single clue on what to do with them.

I miss the Konami from the 80s and 90s.

Not a huge fan of the 3D Castlevanias. I'd prefer they bring out remastered or the original side scrolling classics that hit the nes, super nes, gameboy advance, ds, etc.

Oh and hey Konami: Still waiting on Axelay 2. 26 years now

I am in a "holding pattern" if you will on any games I'm not 100% informed on. I am not investing in any games that require me to spend additional money to get the full experience. There are companies that have acquired good faith imo (Sony, Nintendo) that I don't feel the need to be suspicious of. Konami is not on that list.

If they can do a great game, yes, sure. Bomberman R it's a ok game. Are you listening, Konami?

While they are at it, please consider remastering the Goemon games. All the games, from NES, SNES, N64 are great. The one for DS is not bad, but for some reason, I thought that something was missing there.

Castlevania Battle royal

Dead rising engine
Whips only
Whips brake after 10 uses
Character is chosen one aka link from Zelda
Coop whip offs against classic bosses
1080p on PS4, 900p on Xbone, 480 on switch
Dynamic 20 hour story
End plot twist is the castle is actually a space station
Winner of battle royal matches gets to drive a tesla back to earth

That sounds amazing.

That would leave out every Metroidvania sans CotM. Though that's fine.

I like the Iga games; it's just my all-time favorites are 1-4, Bloodlines & Rondo. I was obsessed with the franchise in that era.

I still enjoy all of the Metroidvanias, however. Bloodstained is the only Kickstarter I've ever went all-in and dropped more than $200 on (here's hoping it delivers...).

I have no faith that Konami could pull it off in this day and age but if they tried and it resulted in a good game with no microtransactions then I'd be down for it.

Well how about they fuck right off and sell all of their IPs to more adequate developers and publishers who actually care about making good games first and foremost?

Agree in principle but it would depend largely upon which version of Simon they went with...

A new game would be nice but given the state of Konami I do hope that Nintendo collaborate with them on development. I'd love something with the quality of the DS games but tbh at the moment I think those days are gone unless Konami partner up with N and let them guide the development a bit.

After their support of Bomberman (Switch) and how great the Netflix Castlevania prologue mini-series was I am all for this. Konami still has a long ways to go in regaining my trust but I am quite willing to see what they might come up with :)

At max i’d trust them to do a SotN remake. But please dont use the Deathnote Artwork as base.

I'll take Mystical Ninja from SNES, the 3D versoins were nowhere near as good. Goemon N64 just had me wishing for The Legend of the Mystical Ninja.

As for castlevania, I'd say most of us would take another 2D SOTN style game in a heartbeat, which maybe Konami thinks the Switch is made for.

Yeah. Except 2 was weaker than any of the Igavanias save for Harmony of Dissonance.

3 and Rondo are my 2 faves btw.

They aren't strangers to reuse of material in Castlevania, especially with that 2D pixel-art co-op game that reused sprites and engine from the GBA and DS versions on a handful of maps structures with re-used tiles.

I'd expect something in that vein, with low internal involvement. It could be a project of the scale of Bomberman R if they are clever with the resources.
Especially seeing how all new 2D Castlevania releases in particular where nearly exclusive to Nintendo handhelds for a good while, there is common history.
