How can a game like Secret of Mana (PS4) be released in the state it is? Have publishers no honor?

This game crashes like once in three hours. This is sooo annoying.

Imagine the original S.N.E.S. version would crash like that, people would have run to the store to have their money returned.

SHAME ON YOU SQUARE-ENIX

It's a fucking joke. The ios version runs better than this shit. Already posted in the other SoM-thread.
Dunno how this shit passes quality assurance if there even is one.

Seems like a quick cash grab from square and one of the reasons I'm not buying many other games from them anymore.

I was surprised when I came to the mana fortress at the end of the game and between every room the game had to load. This was different in the original game. But it was necessary as the game quicksaves every screen transition. It's almost like they knew the game crashes so many times, they purposely made the quicksave a feature.

Square has been pushing these crappy mobile ports for years, why is this news suddenly with this game?

Because it's not a mobile port. The mobile version of SoM is the original 2D SNES game.

It may look like something you'd find on the app store, but the PS4 / Vita / Steam version is actually a full 3D remake.

Between the FFVI PC/iOS versions, Setsuna/Lost Sphear, this, and Chrono Trigger... SE seems to just be in low effort mode. I'd like to know if these projects generate profit, though.

I dunno maybe I'm weird but I saw this coming a mile away... They've been porting their games to steam and porting the mobile version of said game. When I saw this remake, I knew it would be of the same quality...

If I was Square-Enix, as passionate as I am about this backlog, I would do the exact same thing, not because of honor but because I have no respect for people who would buy a crap 3D denaturation of a 25 y.o game at this price, why would anyone?

In fact I would just spend the slightest scrap dimes knowing crowds are so fucking dumb with their money and consumer choice, I can make easy money with this.

Huh. I only had two crashes total in my time spent trying to earn the platinum trophy. The fact that it crashes at all is horrid, but I feel you may just have been more unlucky than most. Or I have just been more lucky than most. One of those two is probably the case.

This game deserves better.

Wonder how are they going to handle seiken densetsu 3 as that games system is so more complex.

Did anyone else read the op thinking of that old gaf meme about being an expert on japanese culture and honor is a huge part of it (which was also relating to square)

I think its Sonys fault. They have to allow or deny a Game to the Platform. They allowed it. so Its their fault.

Sony only denies a game to the platform based on content (offensive, etc) or QA fail. Bugs, crashes, glitches are not Sony responsability, they only look for potential security issues that might allow "misuse" of the console. It's the same as all other platform holders.

It happened because platform holders and consumers allowed developers to make post-game patches a thing. That removed the neccesity to ensure a game was fully built, tested and performed well upon release so developers could then push projects out before they are fully baked.

Post release patches started as minor tinkering, were then sweetened with little "extras" so people would blindly accept major performance updates and now are an excuse to push out unfinished products to consumers. T'was the thin edge of the wedge and this is what that wedge leads to.

Once every three hours? That's pretty good luck o.0 I was averaging a crash every 90 minutes by the time I finished the game -_-

It's still a fun remake (I mean, I did finish it hehe) but darn were the crashes annoying. No exageration either, I was streaming the entire time and almost every video I was left with was between about 70 to 100 minutes or so in length =(

Nah, it's pretty rampant. If you check the GameFAQs board for the game, there's some huge threads about it.

Then I just got pretty lucky. Sucks to see people having this issue as I really enjoyed my time with the game.
