52 Games. 1 Year. 2018.

. Did not look for music sheets but completed all optional side areas. As I usually do, I'm counting every campaign as a separate game, since they're sold separately as standalones and they're more or less the same length.

Shovel Knight is considered the "holy grail" of retro indie platformers, and it's easy to see why, since it's some of the finest 2D platforming this side of Nintendo. Particularly the last two areas, which are really challenging and fun. The game might be a tad easy, but the fact that you can "break" the checkpoints for additional challenge and reward is a very novel and interesting idea.

While it's a better Megaman game than most actual Megaman games, I personally think Shovel Knight is missing "something" to be amongst the truly greats. Maybe some more variety? Some extra length? In any case, the game is still a must.

Soldner X-2
Sequel to PS3 era SHMUP , altrough technically I haven't see any fault in game it felt flat and boring. Nothing really caught my attention so I mechanically finished it but I don't feel like there's anything worth returning too which is kinda sad as I remember playing first one for hours on PS3.

Platform: Vita
My score: 6/10
Time spent: around 1 hour

Ultratron
To be honest I still have no idea what this was doing on my Vita - I guess it must have been PSN+ title and somehow I downloaded it :) But since I was in a train and needed break from bigger games I tried it. First impression wasn't good as it looked like yet another 8 bit indie game but it turned out to be very decent twin stick shooter. It also has solid upgrade system which allows several strategies of clearing spawning enemies.
Also pretty easy gold and bunch of silver trophies so not a bad title to add some points for trophy whores :)

Platform: Vita
My score: 7/10
Time spent: around 2 hours

This is the year I´ll tackle my backlog.

finished Gravity rush 2, loved it. Its a weird game but I liked it a lot. The art, music and ...charm. So cool and unique.
Started Golf Story.
Finished Bayonetta 2, a little disappointed since I believe that 1 had more variety and was longer. Still a good game, not interested in the online.
Finished The last Guardian, cool game, frustrating last two puzzles. Loved the game overall, beautiful.
Finished Steamworld Dig 2. Total play time 8 hours. Short, but I feel like I have a lot left to find. Cool game, leaps better than 1, in a good way.
Started Enter the Gungeon and I'm so bad at this game, barely managed to finish stage 2. I believe I won't ever finish this one.
Pan Pan a tiny big adventure, Bought and finished in like an hour and a half. It was worth the 4 dollars. Nice art and concept.
Started Valkyria Chronicles Remastered on ps4. Loving it, currently in chapter 8.
Finished God of War, a fantastic game. Loved it. Great production, great gameplay. Close to perfection.
Detroit: Become Human, finished my first playthrough, definitively looking forward to playing it again. Awesome game, totally recommended. 2 runs now, the game can be so different depending on your decision, awesome game!
Resident Evil HD Remake (PS4): I loved it, but fuck! Tons of the game mechanics are so old and I feel the industry has moved past them. Like tons of backtracking, tiny inventory and the fact that everything uses inventory space. Even saving uses 1 inventory space, and you only have 8 ! I liked it and i'm considering doing a Chris run, but god damn he has even less inventory space!

1. Mantis Burn Racing (XBO - 5h - started in 2017)
I've been waiting for a pure top down racing game like this (no power ups) since Ignition from 1998 (anyone remember that game?). Core gameplay is simple and solid, with shiny graphics and satisfying driving mechanics. Unfortunately MBR lacks imagination/style/personality in nearly every aspect. Generic music, boring car models and sounds (in old Ignition every car had distinctive boost sound), mind-numbing career progression - base game has only 8 tracks, so things get repetitive pretty quickly. Speaking of tracks, they are pretty but again, just basic stuff, no dynamic events (Ignition had those, moving train, sandstorm etc.), everything's just static assets. The whole game feels like a missed opportunity for a great little title. I still had fun in some small doses, but i'm kinda mad at devs at the same time, that they took the easy way. 6/10

2. Rocket League (XBO - started in 2017)
While this game can't be completed, i've decided to put on my list MP games that i've played 10+ hours. I love RL, already clocked 350h total and counting, but i hate it at the same time. Connection is awful in 50% of my matches, and people can be dicks. Also performance on XBO is not so hot, it feels more smooth on ps4.
Oh, and Psyonix pissed me off with the addition of loot boxes, i despise that stuff in any form. They had a good thing going with proper DLC packs, but they went the greedy route. Overall, a lot of negative feelings with the game, but i just can't put it down, core gameplay is just phenomenal and addicting. 8.5/10

3. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (XBO - 6h - replay)
My 3rd and final playthrough of DOTO. Ghosted every level, completed all contracts and enjoyed my time revisting Karnaca. Solid standalone expansion to the Dishonored universe, yet slightly disappointing. Game consists of 5 missions, but 1st one is tiny and feels like tutorial, one mission is a slightly reskinned map from D2, and the final level is just bad. So you only really get 2 missions that live to the scale and quality of D2, and one of them, Bank Job is the real highlight of DOTO and one of my favs in the series. Regarding to gameplay, you get some new stuff to play with like hook mines and a new set of (underwhelming) powers, but all in all, gameplay loop is pretty much the same stuff you know and love from previus Dishonored games. Graphics, artstyle, sound design, animations - D2 tier (mindblowing); Arkane Studios, From Soft and Tango Gameworks are the best in bussiness right now when it comes to art design. To sum up, buy DOTO only if you're a fan of the series, it retains most of D2 greatness, but feels kinda rushed in terms of the level design and Billie's abilities. 7/10

What's next:
-Kingdom Come Deliverance
-Dishonored 2 (replay on NG+)
-Evil Within (replay on nightmare)
-Rayman Legends (replay)
-Okami (replay)
-Beyond Good & Evil (replay)

4. Okami HD (XBO - 20h - replay)
Amazing and timeless, an epic adventure that stays with you long after you've completed the game. I think everything has been already said about Okami, i'll just add that while i usually avoid long, bloated games, i don't mind Okami's lenght at all, someone said that it's like they've packed an entire trilogy in one game. 10/10

Dropped: Kingdom Come Deliverance (maybe i'll finish it once they improve the game with some patches, right now it's in early beta state); Rayman Legends (completed 3/5 worlds, had my fill)

97lprfk.png

???h. Completed all regular stages and some Star stages, but not all of them because some of the unlock requisites were absolute bullshit.

This game had a ton of potential. The platforming itself is some of the best I've seen on a "runner", excepting perhaps the Rayman games. But the game was marred by a ton of, admittedly mostly free, gacha bullsh*t. What there is, is great, but it's definitely not worth the steep entry price.

My Score: ★★

I am new here but this is actually exactly what I need. I am making a solid attempt to work through my backlog and not purchase any games for the entire year. I dont know if I will make 52 games because I have some lengthy RPG's to get through. (Also I am having a baby in August)

1. Batman: Return to Arkham Asylum
completed on 2/15

1) Everybody's Gone To The Rapture - PS4 Pro (7/10)
Played this for an hour each evening, doing a different character chapter every night. It's an interesting game, though obviously falls more into the realm of a walking simulator with it's limited gameplay and interactivity. Enjoyed the story and exploring the environments though, gave me some real nostalgia to summer holidays in the English countryside with my grandparents way back when. Hopefully the Chinese Room can get out of their recent troubles and have the chance to make another title!

2) Horizon Zero Dawn- PS4 Pro (9/10) - 67% completion on around 44 hours of playtime on Normal Difficulty
Took me while to get into this game, the setting and robot dinosaurs didn't appeal at first but after getting through the prolonged intro (around the first 5 hours) and the game world opening up it really hooked me in. It looks beautiful as everyone knows but the combat is really the the star here, nothing more exhilarating than taking out a Thunderjaw with a slo-mo tear shot to the FACE. I feel the main thing holding this one back from being an all time great is just the familiarity of so many of the elements, hiding in foliage for stealth attacks, climbing large structures to unlock the map etc etc BUT Guerrilla do a really good job of refining all these elements and giving them a twist so they all work perfectly.

I should probably also mention the story, I liked more of the smaller sub plots than the mostly forgettable larger Hades arch but it was interesting learning the back story of Elizabeth Olsen and how the world fell to the machines. Will come back and play the Frozen Wilds DLC at some point but in no rush.

3) Red Dead Redemption - Xbox One (10/10) Finished the main story and all stranger missions

I LOVE THIS GAME LIKE A MOTHER.

It hasn't aged a day to me, playing through this again was an absolute pleasure and i was reminded of how sublime this game is especially the third act when you get to Blackwater and there's still feeling of impending dread and sadness that a way of life is coming to a close and John Marston with it. Some niggly issues with the aiming but i still consider this a masterpiece, October 26th cannot come soon enough.

In Progress:
Grim Fandango Remaster
Shadow Of The Colossus Remake
Wolfenstein II
Super Mario World

2. Rise of Tomb Raider
Completed on 2/22

I have to say, I really like this game but I liked the first one from the reboot so much more. The end was just a combat slog. I never felt like I was raiding tombs.

1) Resident Evil 5 - PC (6/10)
Really huge drop off in quality from RE 4. They focused too much on action in this one, as opposed to survival horror. Every second of RE 4 was a struggle to get through, but because of that it was constantly rewarding. RE 5 was too easy. I never felt the tension and relief cycle of 4. Also, in RE 4 the story was silly but again, it almost served as comic relief from the gameplay. In RE5, the story was just silly. On its own though (i.e. not comparing it to one of the best games of all time), it's ok.

2) Oxenfree - PC (7/10)
Loved the art style and writing in this one. The characters reacted to their situation the way someone would actually react in today's world with all the sci-fi and horror movies that exist now. They immediately understood what was happening pretty much, or at least generally what was happening. There wasn't a lot of "this is so weird WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON" from them. Also, the characters were generally likeable and I connected to them. The problem with this game is the problem with most "choice" games. I'm unsatisfied with my ending, and that leaves an air of feeling like I played the game "wrong," which is strange in a story driven game. This is why Life is Strange is perfect. It gives the player a greater satisfaction with each of their choices by letting them know the consequences. Thus, the player actually has a greater sense of agency in the story.

3) Overwatch - PC (10/10)
Been putting a lot of time into this one with the competitive season coming up.

4) Black Mesa - PC (9/10)
Disclaimer: I have never played the original Half-Life. But Half-Life 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I love the atmosphere of Half-Life 2 and this game was very much in the same style. I actually think this might be a little better because it centers on one event, giving everything you do this sense of importance and urgency. However it lacks the characters of Half-Life 2 and you really have no attachment to anything. Every companion that follows you dies. I was also surprised to see that Dr. Kleiner and Eli don't really play any significant role in this game. If I were playing HL2 after this I would be confused when you are supposed to know Kleiner and Eli. But you still get the environmental puzzles and fantastic, realistic level design that I love about HL.

5) Transmissions: Element 120 -PC (7/10)
A HL2 Mod that has some inventive gameplay and atmospheric setpieces. Only takes about an hour though.

6) Half-Life 2: Lost Coast - PC (5/10)
This is like a deleted level or something from HL2. Definitely has some of the best art direction I've seen from Valve. The level is stunning. But the encounters here are really nothing you haven't seen before in a HL game. This might as well just be some pictures of the level.

7) Portal - PC (8/10)
Yearly playthrough. As you can probably tell, I just got a PC, and The Orange Box was on sale for like $2 on Steam. So, obviously it was a sign I should play Portal.

8) Dragonball FighterZ - PC (7/10)
This is a pretty fun and easy to pick up fighting game. Rammed through the fairly dumb story in a day but I'm still playing a good amount of multiplayer. Everything in this game is so satisfying and silky smooth and the combos look cool as hell. I don't really play many fighting games because I tend to feel like memorizing combos feels more akin to work than play; this game reminds me of Smash almost in how easy it is to pick up while still retaining a surprising amount of depth. Also, the loot boxes aren't annoying and I actually prefer this method of obtaining items to having your pick of the litter since you don't have to decide what to buy, you just slowly unlock things. It feels less tedious this way.

9) Doki Doki Literature Club - PC (I swear I'm gonna play some console games this year) (7/10)
Honestly, I'm just glad that this game wasn't a joke; there are actual horror elements in this game. Though, he warning at the beginning makes what's going to happen pretty obvious. It is completely apparent what is going on with Monika once she tells you to save your game that first time, and I even expected Sayori to commit suicide. If you have played MGS, there is no other way a game can fuck with you. That being said, I genuinely liked the characters and enjoyed both the serious and campy horror bits. When Yuri is telling you how much she loves you right before she stabs herself...that was some seriously funny shit my dude

10) Fallout: New Vegas ~ Dead Money - PC (4/10)
Fallout was not built to be a stealth game. This is frustratingly difficult. Some mission objectives here remind me of recent complaints with "Hello, Neighbor." Finding the blue controller modules for the security holograms or the radios that make the collar beep is basically blind luck. The world building in Fallout is usually cool, but I also just could not give less of a shit about the story behind the Sierra Madre.

11) Spec Ops: The Line - PC (6/10)
This is a very interesting game for a lot of reasons, but a lot of the game just feels tedious or repetitive. At some points the game doesn't highlight exactly what you're supposed to do and this can be very annoying. Like I remember this point where you're supposed to use a drone strike for the White Phosphorous and the game doesn't direct you to the PC so I was just standing there not knowing what to do. I even passed by the PC a few times without a context sensitive action coming up. Yet this is one of the most memorable moments of the game, it really makes you confront the things Walker does in a way not many games do. There's a few moments here almost on the level of the airport terrorist level from Modern Warfare 2, but some of them didn't hit me as hard as I think they were intended to. For example, the "choice" part with the two hanging guys didn't really feel like much to me. Also, a lot of the art in this game is really cool; strange mixes of colors on the inside of building versus the outside environment. The irony that the game is set in Dubai in a MW-esque time yet the enemies are white American soldiers is not lost on me either. Also, the soundtrack is pretty good.

12) SUPERHOT - PC (8/10)
This game is very original and satisfying. I was addicted while playing through the "story." Probably gonna go back and play through some of the challenge modes because I seriously could not get enough. The game is so good at making you feel like a total badass genius. Only real gripe is that some of the difficulty spikes are weird. At some points you'll have a level that's totally easy and then it will take you 30 tries to get through the next level.13) Max Payne 3 - PC (8/10)
I guess this was Rockstar's attempt at making an Uncharted game lol. Felt like a weird amalgam of adventure and neo-noir, which I kind of liked. Max was kind of likable, but emotionless, but it kind of works. There are nice nice design choices here, like the context sensitive window breaking and melee attacks that make the game feel even smoother. Also, some nice levels here, particularly the cemetery and the favela levels. Liked that the story actually killed off some characters; even though they were introduced in this game, I still cared. Pretty dang solid.

13) Max Payne 3 - PC (7.5/10)

14) Kentucky Route Zero (Act 1-4) - PC (9/10)
KRZ is a dark and contemplative game filled to the brim with unsettling atmosphere and bitter pills on loneliness, guilt, and the world we live in. Every character has their own problems they are dealing with that they are not quite sure how to solve. This is what makes the characters feel so human. Just like your choices in the game, they have no wrong or right path laid before them. They are not sure where life will lead them, but they are doing their best to find answers along the way. Art style and soundtrack build a world which is strangely familiar yet foreign (a concept alluded to in the game), old and new simultaneously. The dialogue is well-written, deep, and even occasionally funny; some of the side-stories in Act 4 are particularly amusing. I don't want to go too into detail with this game, as it's really something you could dedicate a whole thread to, but overall it was really great. My only problem was with Act 4, sometimes the side stories got a little boring, as they often had nothing to do with the main story and felt inconsequential.

In Progress:
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - PC
Life Is Strange: Before the Storm - PC
Bully: Scholarship Edition - PC
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ~ Expansion Pass (and some side missions) - Switch

Abandoned (maybe):
Papers, Please - PC
Divinity: Original Sin II - PC

3. Titanfall 2
Awesome campaign. One of the best FPS campaigns I have played in years. I do wish it was longer but I got it for free so I cant complain.

FGGpB7y.png

20:43h. Completed game on Normal difficulty, closed all keyholes, found most (not all puppies), didn't try to do additional content.

I remember playing this game obsessively back in the day, but because of Circumstances I never managed to reach the ending. Now, in preparation for this year's release of KH3 (Hah) I finally got it done with the PS4 re-release.

While still a really fun game, KH has not aged that well. The graphics are nice, the music is superb and the story is engaging, but the combat is too simple and the stages are, surprisingly enough, both linear and confusing. Not only that, but KH gets aggressively japanese in the end-game, with a multi-part boss that simply doesn't end and several long and very artistic cutscenes, as it was the norm in the aughts.

And yet KH is so perfect at what it does. So full of Disney "magic" and that unique "late-PSX-to-early-PS2-Final Fantasy" charm. It presses all the buttons to be the best nostalgia trip ever, and to be honest, it kind of is.

My Score: ★★★★☆

Reserving my spot a bit late for this year. I've mostly been playing really long games in the past two months and it's about time to start finishing them. So, the list right now is:

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - 60h in, pretty much ready to just focus the main story until the end, so probably around 20h left.
Persona 5 - currently on 5th palace, so I guess 40-50h before I'm done.
Bloodborne - up to Nightmare Mensis, everything optional including the DLC is done, just slogging through chalice dungeons because I want that platinum.
Yakuza 0 - 20h in, only got to Chapter 3, so quite a bit of it left to go.
Kingdom Come Deliverance - up to Uzhitz in the main story, but I did a lot of side stuff and already have endgame gear so I can focus the story from now on.
Dark Souls 3 replay - Just started last night, was in the mood for it after playing a lot of Bloodborne recently. Killed the Greatwood and cleaned up the Undead Settlement and all the secrets surrounding it.

15) Life is Strange: Before the Storm - (PC) (5/10)
This game is totally tonally inconsistent with the first game. The first one had this cool story; a mix of supernatural time travel stuff, neo-noir, and coming of age story. This game was just melodrama. It didn't help that every voice-actor stumbled through their lines in almost the same way to make the dialogue sound natural, having the effect of making it sound totally unnatural. Also, part of what I loved about LiS so much was that while the time travel mechanic may have at first felt like your choices didn't matter since you could undo them, it actually gave them more weight because you had to be 100% sure to let something happen. This actually gives the player a greater sense of agency in the events unfolding before them. Not only do you see the consequences of your actions play out, but when something bad happens there is always the sense you could have stopped it but chose not to. In this game, the choices barely mattered at all. I was trying to research how the choices actually affect the outcome of the story but it seems that not much is different any way you slice it. And not only do your choices not matter, the narrative arc of the story doesn't even make sense. What was the point of Chloe's journey? To reconcile with her mom and David? No, we know that Chloe is still mistrusting of David in LiS. Does Rachel find happiness or at least solace?
No, we know she enters into a relationship with a drug dealer and gets herself killed.
The onlt redeeming quality about this game was the side story with Mikey, Steph and Drew. Those D&D parts were actually really fun.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ~ Expansion Pass (and some side missions) - Switch

Abandoned (maybe):

I hate it that some games report the complete playtime while other required you to time it yourself or bust. Likewise, I'm enjoying a lot this one game at a time rule, focusing on just one thing really helps with going finishing games.

4: Rise of the Tomb Raider
PS4 | Survivor difficulty | 30ish hours
Amazing continuation to the also stellar Tomb Raider (2013). I loved that you could basically do your own thing and blast through the game or spend time and do most of the optional stuff (like the incredible optional tombs) with awesome rewards for it.

5: Prey (2017)
PS4 | Hard difficulty | 34 hours
Wow, just wow. You've read/heard this enough I'm sure but this game really is System Shock 3. The freedom, the gameplay, the philosophy behind everything. It deserves to be up there with the finest of immersive sims ever made.

Next stop:
• Horizon: Zero Dawn

6: Horizon: Zero Dawn
PS4| Very Hard difficulty | 60 hours
So far the best game I've played all year long. Never thought I would try to go for a 100% in any open world game but this game was well worth the try. The combat is the most satisfactory I've experience on ANY action/adventure game, the only criticism being the human combat. The graphics even on the humble original PS4 are hands down the best I think I've seen on any console. Completed the main story and 99% of the rest, will go back for The Frozen Wilds. It has the potential to become the next great Sony IP.

7: The Evil Within
PS4 | Survival difficulty | 17 hours, 78 deaths
I had wanted to play this game ever since I knew Shinji Mikami was directing and that he wanted to go back to real Survival Horror roots. The game was meh to be honest, good combat for the most part but I was wishing to finish it already by the 10th hour. In the beginning the tension and atmosphere was there, VERY limited ammo, focus on stealth (albeit rather poorly implemented), however by the end of the game it felt like RE4 all over again with the Battle Royal sections being the craziest parts. The story is a bit hard to follow if you're not paying attention or don't care. I know I'm missing the DLC which helps understand the whole premise a bit more.

Next Stop:
• Resident Evil 0 and 1 Remastered

1. Speedrunners (Xbone): Better multiplayer game than single player game, of course. But still a fun and cool idea!
(3 out of 5)
2. A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia (NES): I used to dislike this game as a kid because I could have never found out how to past the subway, I had to actually look up a guild on what to do when i played this game again. It was fun in some parts, but i wouldn't call it a classic
(2 out of 5)
3. Super Motherload (PS4): Enjoyable digging game (dont really know the genre name for those kinda games) with fun multiplayer. But I enjoyed SteamWorld Dig more. And the final boss fight can be an annoying grind if you fail it to many times. Took some enjoyment out of the game for me
(3 out of 5)
4. Kalimba (Xbone): This platformer is honestly a hidden gem on the Xbone, I had so much fun with this one. Really makes you think in certain areas and it feels so good when you find solutions.
(4/5)
5: Metal Gear (NES): I remember getting so frustrated with this game as a kid, getting killed so fast starting from the same spot everytime. This is still the only Metal Gear I have played and it was enjoyable, kinda unforgiving in certain areas but still fun.
(4/5)
6: Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (Xbone): Like i said in the games beaten in febuary thread, this game is awesome and is probably #2 in the genre next to Yakuza
(5/5)
7: Hue (PS4/PSVita): Fun puzzle and platformer, not gonna go into to much detail since I already said as much in Games Beaten in February
(4/5)
8: Absolver (PS4): Also in GBiFT, innovated, fun, feels good
(4/5)
9: Dr. Mario (NES): Also in GBiFT, fun, can be challenging, go to about Level 26, and realized it just kinda repeats after that
(4/5)
10: World of Van Helsing: DeathTrap (Xbone): Ok game, I can appreciate what it has, enjoyed myself an alright amount, not really something I would go back to

Game 1-Never Stop Sneakin(2017)-Switch-Beaten on January 1
-Overall I enjoyed this game but it really was way to monotonous and way too long. The game is supposed to bring back memories of Metal Gear Solid but it really doesn’t, at least for me as MGS is my GOAT. This game has you doing the exact same thing for about 12 hours or so. Same environments, same bosses, same everything, for some reason I kept playing as it was enjoyable but could have been so much better. 7/10

Game 2-Life is Strange Before the Storm Episode 3 Hell is Empty(2017)-PS4-Beaten on January 2
-This was a great conclusion to a great game. Really enjoyed this more than the original. 9/10

Game 3-Call of Duty WWII(2017)-PS4-Beaten on January 12
-Really enjoyed the 5 hour single player campaign. I had been waiting for COD to go back to WWII for a long time and I thought it was great. Hope they keep goin back to WWII e dry couple of years. 9/10

Game 4-Danganronpa V3(2017)-Vita-Beaten on January 15
-I have played and finished the entire series and loved everyone one. This was great but I must say that it is too long in my opinion. 60 hours! About 20 hours too long. 9/10

Game 5-Burly Men at Sea(2017)-Vita-Beaten in January 16
-This was a lovely little point and click adventure game. I played through several endings but after getting the same endings a couple of times, called it quits. 8/10

Game 6-Destiny 2(2017)-PS4-Beaten on January 29
-I really enjoyed the main campaign. While the story was really nothing special, the gunplay is great! I look forward to the Season pass once’s it is on sale. 9/10

Game 7-Batman The Enemy Within Episode 4 What Ails You(2018)-Beaten on February 1
-This was my favorite episode of the entire Telltale Batman series. I loved it! Can’t wait for the finale! 10/10

Game 8-Planet of the Apes The Last Frontier(2017)-PS4-Beaten on February 10
-I really enjoyed playing this adventure game with my family. It was from Sony’s Playlink series that lets you choose decisions using you phone. It wasn’t as good as Hidden Agenda but still a good time with a group of people. The animations and transitions were very janky so he graphics weren’t great. 7/10

Game 9-Shadow of The Colossus(2018)-PS4-Beaten on February 15
-I played the original on PS2 and the remaster on PS3 but never beat the game until the remake. This game is magical and I just loved it. I do wish it was in 3D like the PS3one. Just a mesmerizing experience and one I will always remember. 10/10

Game 10-Bayonetta(2018)-Switch-Beaten on February 19
-After owning the Xbox 360and WiiU version, I finally played and beat Bayonetta and what a ride it was! Great game in the same vein as DMC. Loved it and look forward to the second game soon. 9/10

Game 11-The Last Guardian(2016)-PS4-Beaten on February 23
-After loving the remake of Shadow of the Colossus recently and loving Ico preciously, I decided to play The Last Guardian and have to say that this game is a masterpiece. It is an awe inspiring game. The environments, the music, the lighting, and Trico. My gosh, Trico. Trico could just as well be a real animal. I have never seem anything like it outside of real animals. Masterclass and one of my favorite games of all time. It is the only game that has ever hit me emotionally. I looked at the Metacrotc scores and can’t believe quite a few outlets had given it 6 or 7’s. There has never been anything like this game. Between Ico, Shaodow of the Colossus and the Last Guardian, Ueda is a true artist and one of the greatest game designers of all time. I sure hope he makes more games in the future as no one makes anything quite like these games. 10/10

Game 12-The Lost Bear(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on February 26
-I loved this charming little sidescrolling platformer. I am a spectator sitting in a theatre but am also controlling the action onscreen. The environment around me changes as the environment in the game changes. It only lasts an hour or so but I loved it! 9/10

Game 13-Bayonetta 2(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 1
-While I enjoyed this game, I didn’t like it as much as th first game which I beat a couple weeks ago. I didn’t like the characters as much in this game, Bayonetta’s short hair, or the fact that it seemed like a boss rush game. It seemed like it went from boss to boss to boss. Still fun though, 8/10

Game 14-Old Man’s Journey(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 2
-This was a short and very relaxing puzzle adventure game that was a nice game to play after Bayonetta 2. 8/10

Game 15-A Normal Lost Phone(2018)-Switch-Beaten on March 3
-I really enjoyed this visual novel as it was a very unique experience. I really enjoy these brief, inexpensive adventure games in between the bigger games. 10/10

Game 16-Moss(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on March 5
-I absolutely adored this game and is one of my favorite VR games I have played. I really want more games from this perspective as I get no motion sickness from playing whatsoever. Just a delight to play and can’t wait for Book 2.10/10

Game 17-Theseus(2017)-PSVR-Beaten on March 6
-I know this game didn’t get good reviews but I really enjoyed it for the $10 I spent on it. It was a third person action game where I am looking down from where the camera would be viewing the acting. After playing this and Moss, I really like perspective in VR because I don’t get motion sickness. I wish it was longer and that’s the only negative thing to say about it. 8/10

Game 18-Life is Strange Before the Storm-Bonus Episode Farewell(2018)-PS4-Beaten on March 8
-I thought this was a very slow episode even though it was only an hour long. It was just boring. It had a powerful ending though. The ending brings it up a lot. 7/10

Game 19-Florence(2018)-iOS-Beaten on March 8
-This was the first iOS game I have ever finished to completion. It helped that it was only an hour or so. It was a nice little adventure/puzzle game that was very chill and relaxing. 8/10

Game 20-The Inpatient(2018)-PSVR-Beaten on March 10
-I’m not sure how I feel about this one. It was ok. The graphics weren’t great and moving was so slow in the game. Maybe it’s why I didn’t get motion sickness so I shouldn’t complain too much. The game also got extremely dark the last third of the game. 6/10

13. Singularity - Xbox 360
Completed 3/10/18
Score - 6/10

Meh. Average and half-baked. Interesting plot with boring characters. Some fun mechanics that were totally underutilized. I enjoyed a few of the puzzle-esque areas and the few bosses I encountered were fun.

You can get some cool combos in, but theres much defensive mechanics so if you're fighting a big group, you're gonna get hit... Alot... And the Spider-man Noir (my favorite Spider-man) segments, seem like a poor Arkham Asylum clone. So that was disappointing. Overall a mediocre Spider-Man, so 2.5/5

One of my favourite games of all time, played the original on PC and PS countless times, had memorised mostly the whole game and I love that REmake changes things up and you have to relearn the game. No doubt the greatest survival-horror game ever, will go back for the Jill walkthrough.

9: Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster
PS4 | Normal difficulty | 7.5 hours
Had the GameCube original since forever but never had beaten this game. It’s inferior to REmake yet a great game nonetheless. The story and dialogue seem to have been produced by a child’s mind, the gameplay was OK although not having to burn or decapitate bodies removes a lot of the tension REmake has.

10: Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
PS4 | Hard difficulty | 16.5 hours
Can’t think of a better “finale” to the Drake saga, although I’m sure there will be more entries, everything about this game exudes a more personal and intricate approach to storytelling. Definitely inspired by The Last of Us, finally the story is on par with the characters and the gameplay. Loved the ending, will play The Lost Legacy.

14. Wario World - Gamecube
Completed 3/13/18

What a let down. It was short yet super annoying and frustrating while still not being a very hard game.

15. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - 3DS
Completed 3/16/18
Score - 9/10

Great sequel to the original.

16. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX - 3DS

Still really holds up and is still one of my favorite Zelda games! A true classic.

12: Marlow Briggs and The Mask of Death (Xbox 360): This game is freaking awesome, it feels like an Action B-movie from the 80's put into a video game. It's pretty much a low budget God of War Clone (but instead of Greece, it's Mayan culture taken place in modern time), with a dash of Uncharted set Pieces and feels good to play. There are some weird quirks like how everyone faces look like they can't express emotions, bosses can be a lil underwhelming and easy but still be low budget epic.

Now this is a Mega Man game! After 6/7/8 were super disappointing, this truly was a call back to 2/3. I really enjoyed it.

18. New Super Mario Bros. - DS

Fun, quick and painless. A few tricky levels and it wasn't easy beating two bosses as mini Mario to make sure I beat worlds 4 and 7. Fun game but nothing revolutionary.

I see that you are now playing Resi 6. Every time this game gets mentioned, people bash it, hate it, its the worst main line resident evil and such. But PLEASE! play it online with a buddy, resi 6 is a CO OP game, it should be mandatory. I never had more fun with a RE game. I believe it should have been a spin off. Great Co op game, very mediocre single player game.
Also, best mercenaries ever. This is the game mode that requieres you to use all the game mechanics and its fucking awesome.

14h-ish on Steam plus several more on Android. Completed game twice, bankrupted like two or three times.

At first I was wary of purchasing this one because I'm a big Kairosoft fan and I felt this game was a ripoff of Game Dev Story. But I'm a sucker for this kind of game so I decided to give it a go, and I've found that GDT is a much, much deeper game than its inspiration: has lots of features that I would have loved to see in GDS (like multiplatform developing, engine creation or publishers). It's still a very derivative game, but it does everything better than the game it derives from, so all in all it's well worth a buy.

My Score: ★★★★☆

6:59h. Completed main game with about 55% completion, don't care about extra modes.

A Kirby game indeed. Pleasant from beggining to end, really easy all the way, with an absurdly epic finale. The popcorn of videogames.

My Score: ★★★

202h-ish*. Main game plus Dawnguard and Dragonborn, all faction storylines completed, level 60-ish, got tired of hunting for sidequests.

Since there's nothing new I can say about Skyrim, I'm going to talk about my life instead. I consider beating Skyrim a bit of a personal victory, because this game has been my thorn on the side since 2011. I purchased Skyrim on launch day for the PS3 and played like 90h, fighting against the fps-devouring bug. I was almost finished and then, I lost my savegame. I wasn't about to start again so I sold my copy and went to do other things.

Fastforward to a couple years ago; I purchased the Legendary Edition on a Steam Sale, and played like 50h. But I got bored and left the game again, until I noticed I got the Special Edition for free and interpreted it as a divine sign. And finally, I managed to beat the game that almost beat me.

It was worth all the hours I spent on it.

My Score: ★★★★

I started it playing solo and absolutely hated it. Someone randomly popped into my game on Leon chapter 3 and I found myself enjoying it a lot more. I still am finding issues with the inventory and some of the enemies but my opinion is changing from awful to kinda fun right now. I beat Leon's chapter and now I am on the Jake chapter. I have tried to wait around for people to join my game but I end up just waiting 10 minutes and then diving in and trying to progress further until someone pops in.

Just a casual replay to check out the port on the Switch. Great game, great port, only marginally inferior to the first.

13. Pillars of Eternity: 9/10, finished 03/16/18
I've been playing this one on and off since late 2016 and I'm amazed at its ability to catch you up each time. This is only the 2nd game of this type that I've ever played, the other being Baldur's Gate, and I absolutely loved it for its writing, setting, and characters. The gameplay - not so much, but it was serviceable I suppose. I'm willing to admit that time away + unfamiliarity with a lot of the spells/abilities probably didn't help too much in that regard either. Nonetheless, it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment and I can't wait for the second game!

14. Monster Hunter World: 8/10, finished 03/17/18
What can I say that hasn't been said: it's the best Monster Hunter. It fixed a lot of the nuances of previous games, it felt great to play, the zones were excellent and beautiful, the monsters were a nice challenge. After crafting my desired set and beating every monster at least once I feel the only thing left for me is to come back for seasonal events and DLC, which I can't wait to do. An absolute joy to put 150+ hours in.

I would love a more advanced sequel.

15: Metro: Last Light (Xbox 360): Been a while since i cam back to this one, but pretty fun just like its predecessor, cool tone, kinda Fallout Atmosphere, neat customisation for guns, very fun mechanics with the gas masks and such. And this game can feel real fun to sneak around in with a silenced weapon then guns blazing, just felt satisfying even though the AI isn't the smartest. Really good writing, but man the story, at least to me was confusing, just like the first one haha.

34:43h. Main game completed, about 80% of all errands.

I've been debating if I should give NnKII 4 or 5 stars, as this is truly a "4 and a half" star game for me. Design-wise, I loved every little bit of it, particularly the characters which are stronger than the ones from the first game. The story is a bit weak, but it's meant as the typical feel-good Ghibli romp, style over substance, so it was to be expected. Also, the game is quite a bit shorter than NnK, but I guess it's more in line to what JRPGs are now and also action RPGs tend to be on the shorter side.

What I didn't like about it is the difficulty. The combat system has its nuances (training abilities, the higgledies, the Tactic Tweaker...) that can be safely ignored in favour of "mash X" tactics. This makes you very likely to progress under the recommended level, at which point numbers will outweigh skill and you will find roadblocks (Mine were Broadleaf and the second-to-last boss). That's one of the textbook examples of a bad difficulty curve.

However, the good outweighs the bad by quite a bit, and Ni no Kuni 2 is every bit as good as NnK was, if not better in certain aspects. Pity it wasn't 10h longer - it could have been a GOTY contender.

My Score: ★★★★

11: The Last Guardian
PS4 | less than 15 hours
I can’t believe it’s been almost 10 years since this game was first announced. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, Trico, the art direction, everything. The puzzles were nicely balanced in difficulty and motive, the animation and world building was outstanding and the ending surprised me as I thought it would go in another direction. Solid 3rd entry for Team Ico, perhaps the last one?

12: Alien: Isolation
PS4 | Hard difficulty | ±16 hours
As a huge Aliens fan I’d always wanted to play this game but lacked the means to and didn’t want to play on PS3. The visual style and survival horror elements hooked me from the very beginning, I was genuinely terrified of the alien specially when I couldn’t “fight” it at all. The campaign was a bit too long for my taste but all the details, the flashback mission, etc was the best fan service I’ve experienced in a while. Played on Hard and used items maybe a couple of almost obligatory times against the synthetics. Solid game and the best sequel to Alien we might ever get.

13: Rime
PS4 | 5 hours
After playing so many long games I really needed a short refreshing experience and boy did I enjoy the ride. A very personal ride with tons of metaphors and hidden paths to explore in a very unobtrusive way, if you care for it at all. Otherwise this game might appear like a bland combination of the elements of superior games like Ico, The Witness, etc.

13h-ish, though I played the game very leisurely, in work breaks and reloading for optimal results - if you're playing seriously, it's easily a 4-5h game.

I feel short, amateurish Aviary Attorney is much worse than the sum of its pieces. The art is superb, the characters are great, and the setting is juicy and imaginative. I loved the way the story developed and, plot-wise, Aviary Attorney throws some totally unexpected curveballs, like
the first defendant being guilty
or the time-sensitive evidence gathering, which allows you to lose cases if you don't use your time judiciously. As a veteran Ace Attorney fan, this game knew exactly the buttons it had to press to catch me unawares.

All of this is wasted in a 4-5h game which can be pretty buggy sometimes (for example, if you do not get a particular piece of evidence in case 2, you have to "suicide" and go back a couple days, because the game thinks you do have what you need) and a story that would have benefitted a lot from a larger scope.

My Score: ★★★☆☆

19. The Room - iPad
Completed 4/4/18
Score - 8/10
Fun little puzzle game. First game I actually played to completion on my iPad after owning it for years. I only purchased this due to seeing it pop up on threads from time to time. Glad I did and play on playing the others down the line.

20. Mega Man 10 - PS4
Completed 4/5/18
Score - 7/10
Probably the easiest Mega Man game I have played. It was fine and pretty fun. Didn't feel very creative or anything and the store made it really easy to obtain extra health.

21. Resident Evil 6 - PS4
Completed 4/7/18
Score - 6/10
I really wanted to go into this and enjoy it after hearing all of the criticism. I just really didn't enjoy it. I liked the Jake/Sherry episode the most...which shocked me. Leon's was alright but super long. Chris's was decent but felt like a shitty action movie. Ada's story was a pain in the ass. I didn't enjoy that one at all. I am looking forward to moving on to the last 3 games I need to beat in the series, Darkside Chronicles, Rev 2 and RE 7.

16: NiGHTS into Dreams... (Xbox 360): So I've either so high praise from this game or negative criticism for it. And honestly I wasn't really a fan, but I'm also not a fan on games that grade you on how you do on a level. Pretty short, nothing wrong with that though. Boss battles were sometimes fun, and man the main menu theme is so creepy

17: We Are Doomed (PS4): As addicting as this game is, its pretty simple in design compared to the perfection that is Geometry Wars. But still fun, especially on the go with the Vita

17:39h. Completed all the quests I found, except for finding all the yaoi posters in town.

As with TSoT, I think TFbW is a much better game that it has any right to be and you are never sure of how seriously it takes itself. It's always crass and inappropriate, but sometimes it makes some valid points about the issues it discusses. Other times you're launching tinfoil-wrapped guinea pigs with well-timed farts. There's also some jabs at the business, like when Kyle openly discusses TSoT as a "failure of a JRPG".

The combat system is an evolution of TSoT's, and feels "lighter" and faster overall, though the variety of options available to the main character makes the combat a bit on the easy side, except for the Bonus Boss and some of the hardest fights (fucking Woodland Critters...). All in all, this is basically the same game than TSoT with a new story, a revamped combat system and some of the problems with TSoT ironed out. Feels a bit less impactful than the first game, but that's probably because the novelty has worn off already.

My Score: ★★★★

18h-ish. 77% progress - completed all quests I saw in the map that weren't about fetching collectibles everywhere.

I think this is the best Far Cry to date, though admittedly I haven't played 4. The best thing about FC5 is that fixes all that was wrong with FC3: now freeing outposts has a real impact in the game world, the companions are real entities with their own personalities (particularly the animals, which are great!) and everything feels more cohesive, more consistent. Also, the rural American setting feels refreshing after so many shooters set in Random Tropical Jungle Nº2, and Father and the peggies are different enough from the usual fare of pirates/treasure hunters/bandits/natives/PMUs to keep me interested.

While I liked the plot, I did not like the way it developed. The constant kidnappings of the deputy are both baffling and ridiculous - the fact that it happened NINE TIMES and nobody thought of simply killing him while he was systematically dismantling their operation is basically a glaring pot hole that is never addressed apart from "Father wills it so".

But the gameplay is basically the perfect example of a sandbox shooter and I had lots of fun with it.

Pity about the WTF ending. So, nuclear war? Father was (accidentaly) right all the time? That's the payout for 20h of heroism?

My Score: ★★★★★
