there's a few good exclusives - i really enjoyed horizon 3 and forza 7 personally

This generation they did it very bad from the beginning. A weak console,no first party studios to deliver constant AAA games....
Ms needs to come back to the early 360 era.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
To me it is. The Xbox and Xbox 360 were my primary consoles.

This generation, the Xbox One disappointed me massively, and I am bored of the usual Microsoft offerings, so the Xbox One X struggles to hold my attention.

The Switch is my primary gaming device now. With Odyssey, Zelda, and Mario Kart, I have enough for the rest of the generation (I don't game much). I'll take a look at MS next gen.

I had all xbox consoles, but the xone is even worse than the 360 i had that got fucked for the 2nd time after the warranty ended. I had the xone for 3 years and i dont think i played 20 hours with it.
The kinect is an annoying piece of shit, the os was slow and badly designed and continued like that even after updates despite astroturfers saying it was great, snap this snap that lol. No system updates in the background. And what is ironic about the reasons people give to buy an xone, is that none of them is great exclusive games. First reason was great value origin that was going to put xbox on top, then it was the essential back compat, now it is great value gamepass. But what about great games, like nintendo, sony, pc have. Even the failed wii was a cool console, because at least it had personality and a few cool exclusive games. The original xbox was great, halo local co op was really awesome with its huge levels, tanks bombarding you from far away, ships flying and me riding the warthog with my brother.

- You bought the console day one for $500

- The majority of exclusives you bought the console for eventually ended up coming to PC (Which you probably already own in modern times)

- Kinect is promoted as the next big thing, only for it to be capable with a handful of titles.

- Kinect is removed and discontinued

- Then they release a 4k version of the console you bought making it an obsolete piece of junk.

Never again, learned my lesson the hard way. As long as Microsoft insist on releasing their Xbox exclusives on PC then theres no reason for me to ever own a Xbox console again. Had Sony not existed I'd probably be a PC only gamer

I dont know, I never owned an xbox. Curious about the Xbox one x tho, but probably not going to put it before PC.

That argument has always been dumb to me...You probably werent going to buy the hardware so they sell you the software (where the real money is made) and that turns into people saying they arent into xbox or whatever as I see them open the Xbox app to go back and play Gears.

Xbox is PC and Console at this point, you can just access what they offer in more ways than one now. Which I guess is bad because...reasons.

This.

The term exclusive is starting to blur. I no longer need a PS4 to play some PS4 exclusives with PS now on PC. But Console war folks say it's still a PS4 exclusive because reasons. And the service is only going to grow.

As soon as people realize all publishers first and third do not care how they get your money as long as they get it, the better of me gaming will be for everyone.

Yes as far as exclusive first party Software is concerned, but in hardware and consumer friendly services it's by far the best compared to original and 360 era. Love Game pass and BC support MS is offering along with all X enhancements.

X is by far the best console hardware MS ever made in terms of design and features imo.

I'm also looking forward to Xbox e3 more than Sony coz we know what we will get from Sony in coming years but with MS there are still lot of unknowns.

Unlike many blind fanboys who just want their favourite company to remain no.1, I want both companies to stay healthy and compete with each other.

Compared to the 360, there’s no question. That was a great system.

360 was terrible system in terms of hardware features and design.RRod says hi

X is better in that regard but if you mean software support then yes, 360 had lot of good exclusives for first 3 years but after 2010 it was nothing but Gears, Halo and Forza and Kinect.

And 360 didn't offer free games like we get now on Xbox One and nothing like Game Pass ever existed that time plus MS didn't offer good BC support and they also stop investing in new IP when Don Mattrick took over. 360 had good exclusives from 2006 to 2009 then it was annual Gears, Halo and Forza with Kinect cycle.

Original Xbox was better than 360 in exclusive games department but it was the worst in hardware department imo

They dont care...You will still buy there games and services. Seeing how you talk about how an og Xbox One is somehow some "obsolete junk" you

a) had not much interest in the console to begin with
b) dont actually know what the X does over the Xbox One and what they have in common

Xbox is both console and PC.

I would say so. The first Xbox was a great in hardware and software. It was Microsoft's first console, and it released the Xbox later than the PS2. The sales were expected.

The 360 was obviously better sales-wise and software-wise. It did face RROD issues, which I think was a contributing factor to this generation.

The One muddled the Xbox brand, was more expensive, and they had to repair the trust they had lost with many consumers over RROD. It has sold better than the original, but coming off 360-level sales, it's disappointing.

What does the console itself flopping, by MS sales expectations (not like X1 is where they want either), have to do with whether the console itself was disappointing? It had a lot of games, a lot of well received games, and the hardware was the best of the 6th gen consoles. Everyone I knew that owned a XBOX was happy with it.

I'm not saying they had to strike gold like PS1 their 1st time out, had zero good games to play, or didn't have a handful of fans but it was a bloodbath. They pulled the plug on it pretty abruptly and sales were tiny. Even worse than now. Let's be real it's better to be a 360 or One owner at the end of the day. You're getting almost all the latest and greatest games these days. And you've got enough of a presence that MS will think twice before transitioning like they did to 360 again.

So you own a gaming Pc now and play there games on PC now? Yeah, they don't mind that as long as you are playing there games.

They want to expand their services beyond console. If MS started doing business based on fanboys opinion here then they would get bankrupt.

Majority of people don't care if games are on PC. Console gamers will remain console gamers as PC gaming is not everyone's cup of tea. Majority of console gamers want new games and they don't mind if those games are on PC coz they are still getting those games on platforms they own.

I own a mid range but still prefer to play on my consoles and I don't mind if they're on PC, though I agree this will impact hardware sales and overall install base of the hardware console but hey MS knows what they're doing.

Well, Xbox One X is million time superior in every way. Engineering Marvel X is in terms of design.

It has been a pretty big letdown IMO. I was excited to finally try Halo 5 and Gears 4 recently, and I found both to be quite mediocre. I don't know how I pushed myself to beat the Gears campaign. It was an absolute chore and I have such a long list of complaints about that game.

MS just takes no risks, and the new things they safely tried are just not good. Meanwhile, you have Nintendo releasing some crazy handheld/console hybrid with a Mario XCOM game and Sony paving the way for mainstream VR while also putting out massive single player successes. What can you really point at the Xbox for doing? It really does nothing to stand out in any way.

No huge fan of either but "mainstream VR" Is a joke. Nothing worthwhile is made for that thing and Its on massive discounts all the time. VR will go the way of 3D Tvs and motions controls of last gen

I think, atm, there is an identity issue with xbox. Games consoles are very much defined by their 1st party games and other exclusives, and that is where xbox is lacking. Shutting down studios and cancelling games (scalebound, fable, etc) has hurt a lot the image of the console. Xbox is just a Forza, Gears and Halo machine right now, and that is the image they need to change. I practically yawned when I saw the "Forza to be announced at e3" thread, all I could think was "give me something new!".
Another big issue is that this gen they seem even less interested or committed in penetrating any market outside of America. Europe and Asia are Sony and Nintendo playground, that they gladly share because of the difference of their target consumers.
I feel Sony let's their devs do what they want, they aren't forced to make sequels unless they want to, and MS forces their devs to do what they want, and that takes away something from the games. I personally hate doing something because I am forced to, I rather do something I want to.
MS needs to take more risks. Its weird that Sony, having less money (as a whole company, not just gaming divisions, compared to the whole MS) jumps into risks so much, and in the end they profit from it.
When the market seems to be moving to online MP gaas, they invest in single player games, and it works for them. MS needs to have more "vision".

Edit: this is an "outsider" point of view, I never owned or even seen (outside of display models in stores) an xbox console, they are rare animals where I live. But I think competition is what drives innovation and MS needs to improve so Sony doesn't get lazy. I've always felt some interest in xbox since the 360 (I only knew there was an "original" xbox after the 360 released), but never enough motivation to buy one (I'm not into racing or shooters).

Honestly the games don't make that much of a difference. Everything in gaming is lackluster anymore and it's never going back to what it was.

The biggest reason PS4 mopped Xbox this gen was because 1. The price and 2. everyone starting buying It and it became the trendy thing and everyones friends now had it and the rest followed.

I dont what video game company you are, if most of your games are the same, the average person is buying the cheaper option.

Sony started out with bad games for the first few years and it sold like hotcakes. Exclusive games don't make up that big of a percent of games anymore. It's not like PS2 era where Sony had GTA, MGS Etc..

we are a very small % of gamers on neogaf. Let's face it games like, Yakuza, Persona, Last Guardian etc.. Don't sell consoles to 90% of the market. I'm not ripping these games as they are my favorite kind of games.. The average person with a console doesn't know what the hell they are though. The majority play all the major 3rd party garbage like COD, BF, AssCreed etc..

It's all about price. If Microsoft comes out next gen with the same or better specs, undercuts Sony by a $100.00 they would be the hot thing again. It's no mystery that the PS3 lost it's market share from the PS2. It was priced to high. Microsoft made the same mistake this gen.

Clearly.

You know something is wrong when you have something like Sea Of Thieves, years in development, launches with very little content and enemies literally not rendered. So we look forward to Crackdown 3? The game that literally looks last gen? Get rid of the Fable team, got rid of Scalebound, no more Remedy, pumps out Gears, Halo and Forza like clock work, yet shocked that they are performing badly? I'm literally sad to hear they are working on ANOTHER Halo. MS banked on their always online DRM stuff to pay for them this gen, they likely didn't have much in terms of AAA new IP in development because they thought the DRM stuff would fly with gamers. The bluff was called and they backed down, now we are seeing JUST what they were going to do this gen. Look at Kinect, they made it sound like you NEEDED it to use the system, forced it in and yet.....where are the AAA games for it?

So lets get this understood, what was really going to happen if they had Kinect forever as a pack in and always online DRM? This? Because its sound like they didn't have any major new AAA IP planned, not even for Kinect as we should have seen WHY they were packing it in years ago. This gen is showing that MS was planning to make money from their digital games, or GAAS and had very little plans to really pump out new AAA IP. This is easily the worst performance they've ever had. Happy Lucky Tales is not a reason to get excited about buying a new system...

I used to think like you. Then I borrowed a PSVR for a while. For the most part it's tech demos, sure, but RE7, Rush of Blood and Wipeout (oh my $DEITY Wipeout, it's terrific) are most certainly worthwhile. I'm not expecting VR to really go into mainstream this gen, but the next one, it very well may make it. To me it's not nearly as gimmicky as 3D TV, just that the technology isn't quite there yet.

What risks have Sony taken that have paid off? I'm looking at all the first party Sony exclusives on PS4 that did over 1m and maybe one or two games are risky, the rest are either sequels or derivative of other works.

  • Uncharted 4(5th Uncharted game in less than a decade, top selling PS3 series)
  • Horizon Zero Dawn(Ubisoft formula)
  • Killzone(5th game in Sony's premier FPS, wasn't well received so they went with proven formula for next title)
  • Bloodborne(offshoot of Dark Souls, a series with over 13m in sales)
  • Driveclub(new racing series, maybe this was a risk, but the studio was shuttered...)
  • Knack(this was a risk maybe, pack-in in Japan, sequel not selling well)
  • The Last of Us Remastered(higher res. version of one of a PS3 best seller)
  • Gran Turismo Sport(GT7 if you don't count portable, or prologue editions)
  • Infamous Second Son(sequel to a best selling PS3 series)
  • God of War(derivative of numerous other game series and sequel to best selling PS franchise)
Perhaps I'm missing something...

List of PS4 Failures:

No backwards compatibility
No 4K bluray
No Game Pass
No EA All Access
Anti-crossplay
Half measured and ill supported PS4Pro
Inferior and constantly hacked network
Inferior controller
All console exclusives that didn't sell like Lawbreakers and The Order
Dearth of exclusives in first three years
Redundancy of exclusives (single player 3rd person adventure games)

Fun game to point fingers and disparage what other people are enjoying right ?

What about games? I don't care about last gen games as I own a PS3 already, sorry but like many haves stated, the most important things to a console are games and new IP and exclusives are something PS4 has a boat load of compared to XONE, XONE doesn't even have exclusives anymore as MS is putting all their content on PC. Something like Sea Of Thieves with missing content and enemies not even fully rendered is not beating something like Horizion Zero Dawn with like 8 million sales, new IP and dozen of GOTY awards or God Of War.

MS isn't doing bad because of their start with DRM or Kinect, they are doing bad because of how they are behaving RIGHT NOW! The line up of content MS has is just horrid and the only quality content they are pushing out, is from the same tired IP ie Halo, Forza, Gears combo. I bought PS4 to buy PS4 games new IP and established, no BC or renting games etc. Super Lucky Tale is not a real reason for someone to buy a XONE and doesn't compare to Death Stranding or God Of War or The Last Of Us 2. MS failed big time this gen and I've noticed more people's defense, is simply to talk about non-current gen game features, ie BC or renting games....

So...lets just ignore MS is making less content then really any time in their history because 360 games and renting digital games? Its like saying might as well keep 360 and just use RedBox, would someone really say that is the best gen to them? Last gen games and a rental service?

Horizon Zero Dawn(Ubisoft formula)
It's not really quite as simple as you make it sound. The pitch for Horizon could be summarized as "we'd like to spend the next five years working on a new IP, in a genre we have zero experience in - oh, also, our engine doesn't work with open-world games at all". How many of the likes of Ubisoft/EA/Activision/etc would have said "yeah, you do that"? Would MS have funded it? In the end it was both a critical and commercial success, but it definitely was a gamble.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Actually I was mainly a pc gamer this generation, but after moving in own house I wanted to use my living room more often than my hobby(computer) room, and then I bought a Xbox One.

This is the generation where I have played console the most, and while I do have all the consoles this gen it is the Xbox One that gets turned on when it’s not my pc.

means absolutely nothing. quality of games is the most important factor. sony has only had 1 failure this gen and that was The Order 1886.

Really subjective. I’ve had a blast with my Xbox One, and have loved almost all the exclusives, while there’s not a single exclusive that has my interest on the PS4. Cinematic games are just not for everyone.

for MS sake i hope they are holding on to a bunch of amazing exclusive games for the launch of xbox 2. Because this is atrocious.

Doubt you even played it or ever turned on an Xbox One. You sound like a sad fanboy that just wants to flame and derail this thread.

On topic though, I really enjoyed Ryse, even completed it in the hardest difficulty. Yes it was repetitive at times, but overall I liked it.

You obviously are, gaming isn't limited to AAA and success isn't defined by sales only. A game can just break even and leave a positive global impression that becomes attached to the brand. Your failure in seeing this sums up MS lack of vision.
Horizon was risky because it has a female red haired main character and robot dinosaurs.
Then you have the The Last Guardian, Bound, Gravity Rush 2, The Order, Until Dawn, the upcoming Dreams that even if doesn't succeed, it will be remembered as part of Sony image. Dreams hasn't released yet, and already builds Sony image in taking risks, even if it eventually fails. MS needs to do this sort of thing.
Sea of Thieves almost got me to buy a X1, but then came the review about lack of content and 1st person view also put me off.

I don't want to make a big thing of it, but whenever someone makes that argument about VR, it comes from someone who has never even tried it in the first place. Sony did bring VR to the mainstream this generation, even if you don't like VR. There are almost 80 million owners of a PS4 unit that can play VR games if a headset is purchased and it's all plug-and-play for simplicity.

That's what I mean by Sony bringing VR to the mainstream. And the point is that Sony and Nintendo try to do new things to push the industry forward while MS is coasting off previous successes and putting out bad iterations of previously good franchises. This has just not been a good generation for them.

Which was great.

Ryse was certainly not "great", it got shredded critically and for good reason.

That doesn't make it risky, that is just a way for them to differentiate from the other games following the same formula.

Then you have the The Last Guardian, Bound, Gravity Rush 2, The Order, Until Dawn, the upcoming Dreams that even if doesn't succeed, it will be remembered as part of Sony image.

Xbox has a similar number of games that maybe didn't do well commercially but still have a similar following and are as risky as those games you just mentioned. Still not seeing how Sony is more risky than MS when it comes to games released.

PSVR was risky and that seems like it could pay off for them, but as far as traditional games, I'm not seeing it.

You listed God of War as being "God of War(derivative of numerous other game series and sequel to best selling PS franchise)", basically ignoring all the massive changes they made to the game. After 5 big selling entries they completely changed the camera and gameplay and MANY fans are not happy with it, it's like the next entry of Bayonetta playing like Dark Souls.
Is that not a risk?
Can you see MS doing that with Gears of War?

Also, what X1 game similar to Gravity Rush or The Last Guardian or Dreams or Until Dawn/Detroit?

Can you list the risky games you claim? What game is as risky as Until Dawn? It must be Forza.....maybe Gears.....no wait its gotta be Halo!

I love my Xbox One and I was never really disappointed with it. With that said, I had way more fun with OG and 360. The difference for me though is having a family now.

OG had so many great titles, 1st and 3rd party. Halo 1 and 2, Outrun 2, Shenmue 2, Splinter Cell series, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, Conker Live and Reloaded, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, Brute Force, Riddick, PGR 2. So many hours of pure fun.

360 had many great titles too. Mass Effect, Gears of War 1 and 2, Halo 3 and Reach, Ninja Gaiden 2, PGR 3, Viva Pinata, Kameo, Fable 2, Braid, Halo Wars, Shadow Complex. Again hours and hours of fun. My total playtime in Halo 3 is 3 complete months!

And then Xbox One: Halo MCC and 5, Forza 7, Peggle 2, PUBG.

Of course those are not the only titles I've played, but exclusive wise I understand the complaints. Where are those franchises like PGR and Fable (I know rumors say a reboot is comming). The crazy thing is that I absolutely love all my time with Xbox One. My wife luckely don't hate games and likes to watch me play. She also love the One.

We even liked the Kinect 2.0, because it was handy to be able to control with your voice when holding a baby. I loved that it could 'scan' my face for ingame uses. Who doesn't wanna put his face on the hero or sporter? I was hoping for that being 'the future', but I was wrong.

I love the Xbox brand, but also buy other consoles. Is this generation the most disappointing? Depends on what you look at. But IP and exclusives wise I have to say "yes".

I'll buy the bext Xbox for sure and I'm hoping that MS is very busy to make sure they have a lot to offer with cool new games.

Man I would love reboots of titles like Halo and Gears with a new perspective, but fans ars gonna go crazy.

For me, Microsoft made a few mistakes this generation. They were risks that were more mid-gen reveals I think rather than pinning buy in from day one. I had an OG XBOX and loved the early days of Live when it opened up everyone into community gaming. Prior I had a PSX, Then I had an original PS3 but also got a 360 because of Live and friends list/achievement. Then as PSN got better and the games dwindled for the 360 switched back to PS3 properly.

- Features I didn't mind where the HDMI in to snap live TV into the UI. However, the focus was all on NFL and US Fantasy football. As a European, could I watch SkySports and football? While this was a feature I actually liked, rumours then surfaced about latency and lag while using it. Not enough was done to persuade me this wouldn't be an issue;
- Microsoft's strategy was to position their platform as the place to continue playing the large third party games (Cod/Fifa) on their extensive and well designed live platform with all the benefits of that. The problem was they then nerfed the hardware. If that was their plan, it had to be THE place to have the best experience on third party games (like the X1X is now, broadly speaking);
- The digital games library. OK, I had a problem with this. Especially with the tethering comment. As a second account on PS subscription, I can now say I do tether to my phone just to grant the licenses and it works flawlessly. It was not a big deal. And I'm pretty much 90% digital on all titles now anyway. So speed was never an issue for me. However, I have been in dark places like the Highlands where I have had no signal and therefore can't play the games. So can sympathise with those in rural area's or countries with weak coverage. A disc still remains the best vessel to quickly transfer that amount of data from point A to point B;
- Over estimating brand loyalty. They took a chance early. And if the hardware was stronger and message on point it might have worked. But now, it's an arms race between people being invested in a digital ecosystem. They assumed people in the ecosystem would stay. Unfortunately a lot have moved, and a lot have now got digital purchases and a lot more investment in the competitors digital marketplace and account ties to make switching back a difficult choice next generation;
- Cloud computing - I work in tech and CPU offload is common in a lot of technology. The idea being that it was going to pick up the slack that the box didn't have enough oomph to deliver on its own. But still, five years on have we seen even one example of this working? Technically speaking the X1X should not have been needed, On the roadmap, that is what MS were trying to avoid (heavy hitting hardware at consumer locale). You would have expected to see 'from <date> we will be unlocking cloud compute as part of your subscription, expect to see your games scale etc.').
- Games is the oft talked about point. I did consider an X1X recently again but honestly I'm struggling to find a compelling reason. I do have a PC as well. I remember Gears fondly and horde mode. But right now console, gold subscription to play some third parties is not a good enough case. And games like Ori I can play on my PC anyway.

Sony have just been solid. I think a lot of games are over egged. I mean they're good games don't get me wrong, but they're just games. I haven't had a genre defining moment from anything Sony has put out for example, even Nintendo with SMO and BOTW which I'm still playing through. But they are there, delivering games in a number that makes a compelling case to own a PS4 without over excelling.

I do think MS is in damage control now and have all but ceded the generation. They'll try and get back some users as this gen comes to an end and people might pick up the X1X to get the last couple of years of out this generation. I do think they'll come back strong though. At least I hope they do.

I didn't say Xbox had games similar to those games, I said Xbox exclusives have similar followings and are as risky as those games you mentioned.

Gravity Rush 2 is a sequel to one of the most beloved Vita games, seems less risky than Knack II. Last Guardian is reminiscent of previous PlayStation games which sold in the millions. Haven't played Until Dawn yet, it's in my library via PS+ so I'll give that a shot one day soon, on the surface it just looks like a Telltale game(type of games I have found it hard to get into...).

They dont care...You will still buy there games and services. Seeing how you talk about how an og Xbox One is somehow some "obsolete junk" you

a) had not much interest in the console to begin with
b) dont actually know what the X does over the Xbox One and what they have in common

Xbox is both console and PC.

Yep, I really don't get why people repeatedly mention it.

The vast majority of people who purchase a console, either don't have a computer which can run games effectively, are simply not interested in gaming on PC, or are not experienced and find PC to be quite a jump (especially inconvenience).

People who say having Xbox games on PC makes the Xbox obsolete are looking at it with a very narrow mind.

xbox one has only had 2 major successes this gen

Titanfall and Cuphead
They really should have secured Titanfall 2 as an exclusive. Would have been a nice boost to their catalog.

As a Xbox only gamer, and a 90% single player gamer, I envy the ps single player lineup at times. But I will not say the xbone doesn't have any games. Short of exclusives? Ok, but there are hundreds of games on the xbone and a crapload of great Indy games as well so I'm more than happy. As happy as I was with the 360 gen maybe not, but now that I have a 1X I'm really loving what it can do.

These are the posts that drive me bananas. And is evidence that Microsofts biggest problem is messaging.

I don't think anyone here that says they like the Xbox one Is arguing that Sony doesn't have the better exclusive line up. But are arguing the simple XBOX HAS NO GAMES argument. And this comparison of "tired" franchises is 100 percent objective and weak considering the games released in two of those franchises have been an RTS and a complete flip to an arcade style.

Microsoft funded an exclusive RTS. Talk about taking risk...

Sony has the leading platform and have more first party studious. It makes total sense why they have more games. Video games take time, especially new IP.

Microsoft will always lack in this department when you directly compare due to 3rd party games not being as abundant and ready to go during a generation where Xbox was the lead platform and the competition had an extremely complicated box to program for.

Even when Microsoft tried this same tactic with Tomb Raider they were chastised for it.

Anyways, what people just can't seem to grasp is how stuff like Game Pass is drastically changing how some people consume content. And sweeping it under the rug saying it's not a reason to own a console is plain ignorance and narrow mindedness.

Late shift, super luckys tale, roundabout, are all games I NEVER would of purchased due to lack of exposure, funds, and risk of being disappointed. But due to game pass I discovered all 3 and while Roundabout is ok and Super Lucky's Tale is slightly above average, Late Shift is a game I COMPLETELY adore. Again, never knew it exsisted and now it's one of my favorite games this generation.

When you combine this plus the exclusive games like Killer Instinct which got 3 seasons of support, horizon 3 which is one of the best racers every made, And the "tired" Gears 4 which has over 40 maps in multiplayer now that I didn't have to spend a dime on DLC for, you have a console that is very complelling to me as a gamer who loves games and wants to consume them because I love gaming. And I can do that on Xbox.

titanfall (1) sold over 10million copies.
Yes, but that's across PC/XBOX-ONE/360, not just XBOX-ONE.....Tbf, when I bought TF1 on PC it was about $10.00 and that was a long time ago. Still, with those sales and all that hype, that game fell flat very fast, numbers online dwindled very fast. There was no zeal to keep on playing.

Xbox 1 is this generation's WIi U. Seems like MS traded places with Nintendo this gen.

Playstation is killing it with exclusives. I always fancied the MS exclusives, but this gen they have nothing exciting.

That's exactly why they should be creating more studios instead of shutting them down!

Yeah.. No! What they did with Tomb Raider worth being hated for. The game was already announced for Sony console and then MS paid for it to not be released on PlayStation for one year. They didn't pay for the game to have more content or be improved on xbox, they actually spent money JUST to keep the game away from PlayStation. That was a low move.
It's not like Square suddenly was low on funds and needed money to finish the game.

Opening studios takes time and money. Nobody is arguing they shouldn't be opening more. So I'm not sure what your point is?

And the only difference in the tomb raider situation is that it was announced first. If you think Microsoft didn't so the same thing during the last gen idk what to tell you.

This topic is very subjective. Not everyone cares about exclusive. I know few just bought X to have 4k goodness for their 4k tv with HDR and few bought for 4k UHD.

People make big deal about exclusives but when you see top played and selling games on Xbox or PS, then all you see are multiplatform games.

Now, that doesn't mean exclusive don't matter. It does matter and it's important for some people but it's not the only thing I want from console. I am not gonna buy Switch till Nintendo online infrastructure becomes as sophisticated as MS and Sony and hardware packs some punch in power. When I buy console I want whole package to be good not just games.

Xbox and PS offers things I want from console. Switch offers games but not other features that other console offers. P

Not really. I don't really spend much time in single player games any more (mainly play coop with some PvP multi mixed in) so I have been good. If anything I was disappointed that they didn't release more Kinect games (really just wanted Kinect Party 2) before they killed it.

Had a 360, PS3, and Wii U last gen and got rid of the PS3 and Wii U because they didn't get much use. Just have Xboxes in the house now and will be adding a Switch or two this fall.

MS needs to expand their 1st party offerings but that is not to say what they are offering is bad. We keep up with Halo (and 5 has the best gameplay in the series by far) and Forza Horizon, enjoying Sea of Thieves, Cuphead, etc, then the rest is 3rd party (and on my X with 4k HDR tv, hooly shit). Hoping to see some of the older franchises revived but that's my only real complaint. Family sharing is awesome and has saved me a lot of money and Gamepass has also definitely been worth the price so far.

All in all this has been a good gen from my vantage point. I don't care about the "scoreboard," only care about what they can offer me/my family. If anything all of the criticism has been a good thing to make them more motivated. Really interested to see what is shown at E3.
