Next Halo Game Aiming For 4K/60fps | 4K/60 or 4K/30 with visual improvments?

343 seems to be aiming to reach 4K 60fps something not so far fetched when considering Halo 5: Guardians currently is running the same set up on Xbox One X.

If stunning 60 Hz 4K graphics gets you excited, this is the right job for you.

What kind of worries me is that we wont see a large visual jump which in my opinion Halo really needs right now. (Not even talking art direction, just straight up fill the screen with more detail and life)

Made this thread for more of a discussions on what kind of visual upgrades you would like to see for the next mainline Halo title, would a slightly better Halo 5 work for you? or would you prefer that they push even the X as much as they can and truly make something special?
I just honestly feel a little annoyed Xbox games dont look as good visually as there PlayStation cousins (Outside of something like Sea of Thieves which is stunning imo). Being determined to hit 60fps tho in Halo 5 I think did it wonders, but who knows maybe a 30fps spin off ala Mass Effect could really give us a spectacle. (who knows what they are doing for the spinoff that seems to be in the works.)

4K/30 for SP and 4K/60 for MP similar to Gears of War 4 I think should be the way to do it.

Refresh your memory:
Anyways go ahead and discuss if you would like.

Lock me to 29.9fps if old.

Halo 5 looks pretty damn good with the X enhancement. I'd be happy without any upgrades but I'm sure it will look better.

Will be 4K/60FPS multiplayer, its such a massive part of Halo now. Arguably the best its been as well outside of nostalgia.

4k 60fps is always better for the HALO franchise. Halo is not a game that needs to have stunning graphics to be fun.

If it's not 4k30 then you will not see huge graphics jump that you see from PS exclusives and then again it will get hate. Halo always look mediocre to Gears visually which should not be the case as it's biggest Xbox IP.

4k 30 with Ultra graphics and 4k dynamic 60 for multiplayer is smart way to go.

X won't do much as assets will be made keeping base XboxOne in mind I think.
yes and no. PC is still something it will release on and thanks to the upgraded hardware X was able to deliver better textures in games like Shadow of War, on top of PS4 Pro too when it came to resolution I believe.

It will just depend on what they focus on for the X version and if they include different modes aka res mode/preformance mode/graphics mode.

I’d rather have it 30fps and look unbelievable. Don’t know why but for some reason I think halo plays better st 30fps

This is how i see it. Therell be a rez bump but i doubt well see a large bump in graphics.

Im curious how itll compare to 5 on the basic hardware.

But i will say this: im more concerned about post content. No more forge as updates/dlc or remixed maps please.
BTB deserved better...

Forge maps should be included but nothing beats dev made original maps. Definitely want to see more.

Reach is ruined because of it imo, last time I played after hours of online I couldnt even get maps from the vanilla launch to show up! I JUST WANTED NOSTALGIA GOD DAMN IT!!!

Halo is a FPS so 60FPS is a must.
Must in Mp not SP.

In SP I want them to melt my face. Sony melt faces by making their games 30 fps to push graphics. Xbox needs to do something similar coz iam telling you if Halo 6 is not graphics powerhouse then again people will laugh at MS for releasing most powerful console ever where exclusive look mediocre.

I know graphics are not everything and look at Nintendo exclusive blah blah. But incase of MS and Sony exclusives graphics are important for hardcore fans.

If 4k/60fps is the main focus, i expect the leap to be more like going from 3 to reach or forza 6 to 7.

So noticable, but also somewhat neglectable
3 to reach is actually a really big jump. Way more polys, higher resolution better everything really. Except the water.

Halo 6 really needs to bring the graphical fidelity. I don't even mind the campaign going down to 30 fps for better graphics. Halo used to be the game that really pushed the graphical boundaries on both the OG and the 360, and I'd like to see this again.

I feel 4k kind of gets in the way of this, I much rather 1080 with all bells and whistles.

Well Halo was never about a super detailed world, it was more about atmosphere and solid Ai.

On the flip, a stunning game does not need 4k, a game which stuns at 1080p will stun at 4k naturally, it has nothing to do with resolution outright. I think the Halo issue is one of framerate, all the other games were 30fps minus Halo5, but 60fps is the way to go for fps 100% of the time........Precedence shows that we have had a few solid looking fps games at 4kCB 60fps this gen, Infinite Warfare, Black OPS 3 etc...So I'm pretty sure 343i can do a 4k 60fps Halo 6 on XBONEX with better aesthetics over 5, it may not be 4k native throughout, but Dynamic Resolution is pretty much a given to keep framerates up for the most part.

I don't think they should go back to 30fps for the campaign in Halo, even at 4k, but as long as there is a 60fps option, then I'm sure it will be fine.

Halo 6 AND the next Forza Motorsport should both be next gen launch games in 2020/21. Both 60fps with amazing new graphics engines and stellar gameplay / content given the time in development. That secures a great console launch.

In the meantime do a Halo spin off multiplayer only. Heavily lean on the Battle Royale craze but mix it up and make it better. The Halo sandbox is perfect for it. Also make it 60fps using first party skills and focus, which gives it a huge leg up over PUBG and it's struggling framerate.

Then other than Forza Horizon, release this fabled 3rd Forza IP for the end of this gen. Something far out and whacky, different to the other two. Maybe even a full blown Hot Wheels game set in a Toy Story style house with full track editor and building kit.

posts news as their odd job
It's still possible they do manage to eek out some visual improvements if they go to 4K/60fps. Though I wouldn't mind SP being 30fps with boost to visual detail.

Yes!
Exactly what I said above. When I refer to a game running at 60fps on the console, I am literally referring to the fact that it does not have stunning graphics. Since in consoles to get superb graphics it is necessary to run at 30fps. Halo is Halo! Halo has to run at 60fps. The purpose of Halo is always to offer a fluid and differentiated gameplay. A good level design and many varieties of weapons! Nothing more than this. :p

I'm torn because usually I don't care about frame rates (so long as they are stable) but Halo 5 in 60 fps feels soooo good (and looks fantastic on the X). I want to see the graphics pushed as far as they can be but it'll be hard to let go of 60 fps if they need to.

Halo CE and 2 were some of the best looking games of 2001 and 4 respectively. 3 and Reach were middling and Halo 4 is still one of the best looking 360 games. gameplay is of course important but there were a handful of Halos that when released that actually looked and played great. As they should considering they're MS's biggest AAA title.

True but Halo 1, 2, and 4 were the best looking games of their time.

I know but now I expect studios to focus on gameplay and level design rather than graphics. Just like it was done with Halo 5. We have already overcome the time in which to get good graphics would need to stagnate at 30fps. We have several examples of beautiful games in the current generation that find artistic solutions to deliver 60fps with splendid graphics. Wolfeinstein 2 is a beautiful example of gorgeous graphics running at 60 frames and DOOM as well.

I thought Reach looked great also.
eh. It was an improvement and I liked the change to a more gritty realism, but frankly it released around a time when the bar had been raised (gears 2 and 3, crysis 2, BF3, uncharted, mass effect 2, alan wake, RE5, Metro, GoW3) Basically the leap between 3 and 4 was much greater than 3 and Reach.
But Reach has the better artstyle, I'll say that.

IMO saying Reach looked good is like saying vanilla skyrim looked good (which at the time it did too, but it wasnt exactly a eye-popper)

Eye candy is utterly pointless anymore. Gameplay should be all that matters. 60fps or bust. Halo 6 needs much better maps and better big team battle. H5 struggled in both areas.

If they lower the frame rate to 30 while keeping the resolution at 1080/4k that works.

60FPS is already heavily taxing on the hardware so combining it with 4k leaves me worried that the game will be technically impressive at the cost of substance in gameplay.

60fps is a must. framerate has a direct relation with how gameplay works.

4K is reserved for X. If you have the og the more accurate statement would be "1080p 60fps AND couch co-op on my xbox one original"
If even that. The og and s use a dynamic framerate that mostly hovered around 900p from what i remember for halo 5

Halo 5 did hit 1080p but yea it did have a dynamic resolution to make sure it was a constant 60fps.

Just easier to say "1080/60" instead of "dynamic resolution that targets 1080p but will drop to maintain 60fps"

Sorry but performance will always come before visuals for me. I do not care what Sony does or what people laugh at.

After playing Halo 5 in 60FPS I can not go back. The game still today looks amazing but I am playing on the Xbox One X. This time instead of an upgrade patch the game will built from the ground up to take advantage of the Xbox One X.

60FPS is a must for Racing, Fighting and FPS games. All those games Sony make are the same 3rd person perspective type that don't really benefit from 60 FPS.

I'm probably just uncultured or something but I usually prefer 30 FPS with fancier graphics - not in a game like Halo though. 60 FPS all the way.

Not everyone thinks like you man. You forgot how XboxOne was crucified for not reaching 1080p early in this gen.

If Halo 6 looks inferior visually to Tlou2 on Pro compare to XboxOne X then it will get crucified on social media again.

And again, I do not care what people say on social media. What I care about is Halo 6 being the best that it can be. You are too caught up with whats going on with PlayStation and what people think. I do not own a PlayStation and don't really even follow the system. I am too busy enjoying my Xbox One X.

Halo 5 visuals was not the problem. Most complaints I saw was from the story. Even still it sold well and reviewed well.

As long as 4 player split screen is included, I'm for it.

Also, Halo 3 was still one of the best looking games on 360 even years after the fact.
