Farcry 2 vs Farcry 5 tech comparison.

Farcry 2 vs Farcry 5 tech comparison.

Holyshit wow

Crowbcat made a fantastic video showing how good Fc 2 still looks compared to modern Fc games. Attention to detail you see in Farcry 2 is just mind blowing.

Farcry 5 looks beautiful but lacks attention to detail like Farcry 2 had back when it was released. What do you guys think?

Sorry if it's already posted.

Far Cry 2 is still my favorite game of this franchise because of these details (and the realism in game mechanics)

I'm surprised UBI is still using different engines. So much duplicate work being done. Dunia based on cryengine 1, I feel had to do with so much more "physics" in farcry 2. then slowing streamlined away for more people could play it.

A different take on it from DF

Man, I was so hyped for FC2 back in the day, but gave up on it because it thought it was too hard. But now I want to go back and give it another shot. Is this BC?

We get 4k, we lose all other. Half-Life 2 had great physics in 2004. Are there any good in 2018? Don't think so. All CPU/GPU performance goes to 4k.

it's a shame we lost all that detail.
Devs using power of consoles like X and Pro to push resolution and eye candy over attention to detail.

Like I'm taking crazy pills. Farcry 5 has MAD attention to detail. The devs just chose to focus on different details this time around. I mean, look at Metal Gear Solid 2. That game had insane interactivity. It had melting ice. Melting ice. Cause, well, that's what Kojima wanted in the game. Devs pick and choose their battles and Farcry 2 and 5 had different battles that were picked. For example, Farcry 5 lets me hang out with a mountain lion and a bear. Where's the comparison video showing Africa's complete lack of lions in Farcry 2?

^yeah, he can pick and choose a lot. the GTA 4 vs 5 one was pretty bad... pretty much just compared stuff that 4 excels at and ignored all the things 5 does 4 cannot.

that said, still appreciate the videos nonetheless as ideally if games didn't pick and choose but tried to more evenly improve all areas when it comes to physics. e.g. 5 does a lot than 4 cannot so I'm not a fan of that video, but still I really wish 5 had more of 4's ragdoll and car physics. and wish more games in general had Far Cry 2 or MGS 3 quality AI interactions. playing something like GR Wildlands, a game I do still really like... wow is the AI dumb as rocks lol. or a lot of open world games these days lacking destructible or at least dynamic flora and other environmental doodads.

Always thought FC2 was fun.
I guess reviewers always preferred sterile, unchanging worlds. (Wonder if games evolve mostly by what's said in reviews than sales.)
Ahead of its time now.

That's a video that makes much more sense, reflecting my thoughts about FC2, unlike that other channel which gets millions of views only by uncritically comparing what was good in the golden age (?) of videogaming and what sucks nowadays. The perfect channel for hordes of whining users who want to scream out loud their opinion on the Internet.

FarCry 5 has a great amount of detail so its not like all of a sudden everything is glossed over. Id be curious how some of that would transition tho in a map that is way way more full. For example could you imagine either the slow down or how much they would have to restrict themselves with trees if a plane was just going to bomb and minigun a forest dense with trees? Hell with 2 players doing it too.

Also some of that stuff is good that they removed, the healing part just look how long those animations take, especially that one with the bullet hole in the arm. They made them slightly more simple in 3,4,P but none are as fast as 5 and with 5 needing health kits it adds more difficulty imo which I like, you cant just hide behind a rock and pop back in the same finger 5 times.

Fun thing is that FC5 still is on of most interactive games this gen, almost everything else is static as fuck. It's a mix of shit CPU's and developers not giving a fuck, I don't whink next gen will be that much better.

Crysis is 11 years old game and still has best physics/world interaction to date.

You need to look at the visuals as a whole and not just fixate on specific details. FC5 looks exponentially better than FC2 as a whole.

What do you actually guys expect? They put a netbook 2014 CPU in both consoles. I think we already achieved much in this generation. But still there's a little progress when we compare PS3 vs PS4 generations.

I've been playing a bit of Far Cry 2 these days. The world feels more real than in FC3 and 4. I'll take its interactivity over pets any day.
Things work as expected and there are no gamey elements except for the minimal interface. It feels so good to have the environment behaving like you'd expect. It makes the game feel tangible and alive.
There's nothing more valuable to me in a game than interactivity. Collecting things is the bare minimum of interactivity. Far Cry 2 allows experimentation. The only experimentation Far Cry 4 allowed was choosing the loadout, which even Call of Duty does since like 2012, and choosing whether to break a cage or bring an elephant for yet another repetitive carnage while you're chilling nearby. Far Cry 5 seems to be more of that and less about you leaving your mark in an interactive game world, which is what Far Cry 2 excelled at.
Games like MGS V and Mad Max share some of Far Cry 2's DNA. Not much else like it out there.
