Will we see a port of Borderlands on Nintendo Switch?

E3 is coming soon, and with the rumors that Borderlands 3 will be announced, do you think we see any form of Borderlands will come to Nintendo Switch?

Even if it is any of the Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Handsome collection, or Borderlands 3.

A long time has passed since Switch launched and Randy Pitchford and Gearbox may have taken a different stance with the success of NBA 2k, and other third parties on Switch.

What do you think GAFfers?

Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel were ported to the Shield devices and they ran like shit. Better than the Vita version by a mile but not good enough for me to actually put a significant amount of time into. If the performance was better, maybe but it'd have to be a really solid port.

I think it would be smart to have a version of some version of Borderlands on Switch. Even if it was a Deluxe version of borderlands 2, with some Nintendo skins and weapons.

What percentage of Switch owners don't have a PS4, Xbox One, or a gaming PC? Has there been some accurate data released on that topic? Because I think that would tell you how appealing a port would sound from a sales perspective. Did Skyrim do well on the Switch?

My pc got stolen, and I sold my Xbox, ps2, GameCube, wiiu for cash. Now I only have a switch so I feel like a port begger these days

Skyrim was over 500k sold last time it was reported in January. Some people are expecting it to be crossing 1 million units soon.

This sounds good but not great to me. I know it's an old port on a new platform, but if Skyrim can't pull better numbers than that (and I'm kind of afraid to see what happens with Doom and Wolfenstein 2), then Switch will once again see a drop off in support, even though it is (for now) a fairly easy platform to get (some) cross-platform games running on.

As for Borderlands, if 3 really is coming this year, then whether or not we see a Switch port probably depends on how intensive the game is to run and how large it is. The Switch could easily run a Handsome Collection for example, but cartridge sizes would be a definite problem. Also, the timing might not be right (they'll want to focus on pushing 3)

That said, if they can make it work, handheld borderlands--especially with local wireless coop--would be great. They could even do a souls-meets-streetpass PVPVE mode, where other local players just show up in your game, though that would probably kill the battery.

I have all three and would buy Handsome Collection a second time (ie. The 5th or so time I thought Borderlands 2) for Switch.

Portability at the performance level of the Switch is huge to me : Playing Splatoon 2 on a handheld is awesome.

Bioshock collection, COD remasters, Fortnite (!!!!!).... I had DK Tropical Freeze for WiiU I'm ready to rebuy, I want everything on the Switch.

My Xbox was sent to my nephew I've used it so little recently (and saw nothing for a 9 month period I cared about) and my PS4 is Fortnite only as of late. Love my Switch.

I'd rather not PSVita Borderlands was pretty bad I feel like a Switch port might just be the same.
I dont see the connection. For starters the switch is still miles ahead of the vita in the hardware department and unlike the vita, switch has both triggers and bumpers. So theres nothing thats really preventing the switch from playing a port or rez bump version of a 360 game but that being said, it likely wont happen just because gearbox gonna gearbox.

Yeah, I wouldnt use the vita version or even the nvidia shield version as an example. Nvidia shield versions are not well optimized. But I think Shield is more powerful than Xbox 360. So a shield or Switch should be able to run a version of the 360 game.

Wait is a million units not a lot of sales? In what world?
I've been playing DOOM daily myself. Online mostly. I've been saving for skyrim or Xenoblade. can't decide. Never played either IP except morrowind.

I am not an insider, don't claim to be, don't have any "inside info". It's just my gut feeling/opinion. Nothing more.
I hope you are right, if Borderlands 3 and Garden warfare 3 show up on Switch in 2019. I think that would be huge for Nintendo.

Seems like a good idea. The amount of optimization work to how well it will sell has to pay off.

How well is it running on base consoles?

I’m just going to leave this here:

If a GPD W2 can handle BL3 halfway decent I don’t see how a more optimized version could not run better on the Switch.
Looks pretty good with the style the game has.

GPD W2 have 2x more Ram, much faster CPU and while GPU is only Intel UHD Graphics 615, it still have bit more raw tflops than switch.

So I would not be so sure, even even counting that gpd is low powered handheld too.

Low ram + low memory speed would be my guess for biggest problem

It is going to be interesting to see what comes to be in 2020. I am 100% that a Borderlands will be on Switch in 2020.

I’m basing this on:

1.) Switch hardware sales
2.) Recent comments by Gearbox execs
3.) Gearbox porting Bulletstorm (good game but honestly, it would not sell anywhere near what Borderlands 2 would sell.)
4.) Even having rumored Nintendo gun influenced guns in Borderlands 3.
5.) Pax teasing Borderlands 2

As I said, I’m 100% convinced we see Borderlands, even if it is BL2 on Switch in early/mid 2020.

The question is why would you want that game or any cross platform game on a switch? Weakest hardware with the worst online and in general has the most expensive versions. I guess I could understand if a switch is your only option for playing games but at this point who doesn't have a ps4 for games?

It will be on it eventually because the switch is a dumping ground for games that have been out for years on other systems.

Dont get me wrong. My switch is fine for Nintendo exclusives and such but that's all it's good for really.

I have to disagree with you. *IF* you have multiple consoles then I see your point. If you only have one, (which will become more common next gen), I think consumers want the game on as many devices as possible.

Also if your a developer, and as long as the port isn’t cost prohibitive, why wouldn’t you want as much exposure/potential audience as possible?

As I said. I don’t know about Borderlands 3 but, I’m sure by next E3, Borderlands 2 is on Switch.

Because the most valuable resource in existence, certainly more than precious performance resources, is time.

This isn't a description of my own life, but if I had a family and a 1 hour commute to New York, I'd be better off getting in my gaming on that commute than waiting till I plop home at the end of the day when my time could be better spent giving human beings attention. I'd have nothing but respect for anyone making that choice.

That person might still like the option to use the TV when the situation arises, though.

The benefits of Switch are unique and not offered anywhere else, that's why it's so successful and why it keeps getting more games.

I hope they keep 'em coming!

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Gamers get Nintendo consoles for exclusives, obviously their exclusives eclipses third party games.

You are absolutely right. But it hasn’t always been that way. Just since the Wii era🤫. EA sports sold reasonably well on GameCube, so did UbiSoft.

People today have become conditioned to think that only Nintendo titles sell on a Nintendo console. Simply isn’t true.

BIG Nintendo 1st party titles sell, yes!!! Mario, Zelda. Pokémon, etc. that is not in dispute. So do a few others 3rd parties. Skyrim, Fifa 18, and Bomberman R all sold greater than a million units on Switch.

Consumers already pay the “Nintendo Tax” for 3rd parties to come to Switch. I am sure there is incentive for some games come, and they can make a tidy profit.

If you don’t cultivate your audience, then it will be hard to grow any type of audience for any type of game. The “classic” Nintendo fan base is aging, and they need to expand their audience any way possible. Bringing Teens and 20 somethings back to Nintendo would be extremely helpful. Getting major 3rd party titles on board, would help with this imo.

Why would it be anything like the Vita version?, the Switch has a lot more power.

Because Borderlands always was running on toasters. BL3 doesn't even run good on PC and performance on consoles is atrocious.

So switch version would probably run in single digit frames per second.
