Let's Talk - Future Xbox

Hello friends,

Just received my E3 2018 Microsoft Media Briefing invitation.

HDhdxbi.png

and thought it would be fun to discuss what everyone wants to see at the conference or just Xbox in general or what everyone's expectations are and predictions.

I am also in talks with setting up interviews with some of their devs. I will update you once I know what's going down. Please give me time, it will be a few weeks before I know a 100%

My personal current predictions -

Anthem will have a showcase/marketing new decently lengthed demo (Although it will be playable at EA Play, that I know for a fact) but I also think it will show up here in some shape or form.
Possible rumored Fable reveal
Forza Horizon 4 - I think this is a given
Sea of Thieves - Trailer for upcoming new content that's coming in the summer and rest of 2018
Crackdown 3 final release date + new trailer
Ori and the Blind Forest 2 final release date + new trailer
New IP (this one could be the one that Phil was talking about not too long ago where he described it as Horizon Zero Dawn of the Xbox)
New Rare game
More backward compatible announced titles/updates
Halo 6/Next Halo game announced either at the end or the start of the conference. Will be showcased running at 4K 60 on the Xbox One X and of course will be cross platform and cross buy with Windows 10 PC.

I predict most of the games MS will announce for E3 will be much more MP focus, even the so called "Horizon for Xbox".

I can see how that can happen but I also believe Phil did say not too long ago that there will be single player games as well.

I think they'll finally trot out some exclusives. Or, if they don't: This would've been the E3 to finally have enough time to course-correct and actually show some solid exclusives now that the One X is out of the way.

I feel like they have to do something different with Halo to get back the hype for this franchise. I remember playing Halo 1 and it felt so different from other fps back then. I have no immediate idea, but don't make a generic Halo 6.

Other than that: Give me True Fantasy Live Online and I'll buy an Xbox One.

Crackdown 3 and SoT? Why.......might as well just call this the E3 of 2017.

New game from Rare? I'm betting its Perfect Dark for Xbox Two.

None of the predicted games do anything for me. I'll watch how Anthem ends up, but MS first party really hasn't exited me since early 360 days. But I am very interested to know MS plans for the future with respect to console / PC integration, and current / next generation compatibility (just whether each future generation will play the prior generations' games). Especially the latter. If MS makes clear that future tech will always play current generation games forward, and Sony chooses a new life cycle without letting me play my digital collection, that will almost certainly get me back in the MS fold by the start of next generation. Way too much money spent on digital to lose access unless I have two consoles.

I hope so because Xbox One needs some AAA single player games. Hoping with all great reviews God Of War is getting proves to Phil that people still very care about single players games.

I remember seeing pictures of that in magazines and saying "I'll never play Dark Age of Camelot again when that game comes out!". If they brought that out it'd be up there with Shenmue 3 with amazing, bizarre curveballs.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'll echo others in saying that I hope Microsoft announces more games that focus on interesting single-player narratives. If they can show up with 3-4 AAA games that look halfway interesting, along with some more BC announcements, I'll be happy. Doubly so if their AAA games release as part of their Game Pass service.

A new Perfect Dark with Joanna Dark's from the N64-game would be great.

I mean, no idea how it'd turn out, but in my mind TFLO was going to be this fantastic 'warm' mmorpg that's like all those mmorog depicted in anime :D with awesome communities, bright, beautiful world, great amime-artstyle ... and riding on the back of 2-legged dinosaurs!

If they did a sequel to Ryse with a lot of improvements over the original, I'd be very happy. Just imagine what Crytek could do on the X...

I don't see why they can't do something they are interested in (multiplayer service focused) without a world class campaign tbh?

They've done it last gen with gears and halo having some genre defining campaigns

Ryse had potential. For 1, the setting was awesome and while combat was repetitive, it was hell as fun to watch. But to be quite frank, Crytek is a horrible developer now and they've been going down for a while and I am also not a fan of the crytek engine, it's complete poop now compared to Frostbite 3 or Unreal Engine 4. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I think Ryse is better off with another developer or different engine rather.

I loved Ryse, the reviews and general consensus on the game felt like a mad witch hunt, I just didn't get the hate.

It always seems like when they start talking about tv everything starts go downhill.

Also this. Getting away from the tv stuff is still the smartest move they made this gen.
hmm....did they really move away from it? didn't they release a mediocre game pushing the TV scene and placing the game coherently with it's story.............what was it called......"break"?

edit: spelling

Yeah, Quantam Break by Remedy Games. Came out '16 and that was the most 'tv' thing they released. Also didn't sell that well from what I remember. Should've come out earlier but y'know Remedy. People didn't really want it so that's why they're moving away from it.

Alan Wake 2 is the game to make but I doubt MS will want to fund another 5-6 year dev cycle with those guys.

Titanfall 3, leaker said Phil really likes mechs so this came to mind.

New Rare game will never happen then are all swamped making content for Sea of Thieves

New Forza

Crackdown 3, MP shown with destructible environments. Maybe with a battle royal mode

Halo 6, if anyone still cares.

Black Tusk might go back to work on their spy game

Fable RPG maybe but which studio?

3rd party stuff:

More Anthem

Cyberpunk 2077

Something from Ubisoft, New AC perhaps.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a safe bet.

Microsoft confirmed multiple times that Rare is a new IP studio factory. Maybe not this E3 but they will be making IPs.

Fable is rumored to be made by the Forza Horizon team. Now I know it sounds weird but don't forget Guerilla Games went from making Killzone games for a decade or so to an open world RPG. It is possible Microsoft will give the Forza Horizon team same freedom.

Titanfall 3 leaker said? What leaker? Can I see a link please.

I really want them to take another crack at Phantom Dust. I was over the top excited for that reboot.

I've never played the original. Can someone enlighten me please on why it was such a popular/sleeper hit game? What was the gameplay premise?

Microsoft needs to double down on their promise of First Party Developers and For the first hour of their conference show who they acquired and their games. Then go off and show Crackdown, Halo etc. People are tired of the same old stuff and just showing the same things over and over will look very underwhelming for the Xbox fans IMHO

I agree

Now sure would have been a good time to make use of the FASA/Shadowrun license for a Cyberpunk 2077/Horizon like experience on the X1X. But I guess I'll have to get my 4k/HDR Maria Mercurial experience from Cyberpunk 2077 instead in some form.

My personal silly requests are Crate giving in and releasing Grim Dawn on Xbox ( I mean their first game Titan Quest is on there now) and an X enhanced patch for Fallout New Vegas. Yes, I have it on PC modded, don't ask why. I've even asked for this on their surveys they've sent me, so hopefully someone listened (lol).

New Rare game

You know which one:

220px-Wizards_and_Warriors_NES_cover.jpg

MS owns it there: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Studios
