Yeah been waiting on minimum specs but no word.

I mean R7 weak ass pc...
Unless SEGA shit hard on this port, I believe that a R7 240 should run it perfectly fine. Bayo run on a R7 240 without any problems, why would Shenmue from one generation behind it wouldn't?

If we can expect anything like Sonic Adventure 2 and NiGHTS anyone with a more basic PC should be able to enjoy it.

Wait..

You assure me Bayonetta runs on a R7??

I've owned Shenmue 2 on the Xbox since 2002 but while I played it many times, I never got around to giving it a full playthrough.

It's going to be great to finally not only play 2 to completion but go back and play the first as well.

So, regardless of graphical card?

The gpu in that chip is an r5 270 I think I had it set up as 2gb shared system memory as it was just a htpc but it ran dc games very well.

Take a look into it. Even if the remaster won't run you can probably emulate it pretty well.

Will do.

Do you reccomend any particular null dc configurations?

I was replaying it on a DC + Akura HDMI box setup recently and the original looks amazing in 480p to this day. I don't expect this to look much better, besides maybe widescreen support and, hopefully, slightly improved controls. Shenmue's tank conrol setup was horrible and really held back an otherwise stellar game.

Shenmue doesn't have tank controls. While Shenmue's controls are far from perfect, user error seems to be the cause of the bulk of complaints I hear about it... I mean if you think it's tank controls then that can only explain why you are having such issues...

I know rumours regarding HD versions of the Shenmue series have existed since last gen, but it was still a surprise to see it confirmed.
I didn't think Sega had in them to actually go ahead with it.

That's not the case either lol. You just have to trigger certain events during and after work each day, most of which are extremely easy to find if you're doing your job right/running around the place after work. The amount of money you make or spend has nothing to do with it...

I was just referring as to why you are there doing the fork lift job in the first place and that you have to complete the fork lifts tasks each day. To be honest, I never had a problem with this part of the game. I've finished Shenmue twice over the years and never had a problem getting stuck in a loop or anything. Like most games, Shenmue has certain tasks that need to be completed to progress the game. I'm on the side that this isn't a bug.

I have been playing Shenmue since the release on Dreamcast, still have both games and an Akura-box, and the controls have always been horrible. Extremely heavy and tedious. Moving around in a small space is nightmarish. There is a lot of room for improving the controls in both Shenmue games.

Like I said it's far from perfect, but nightmarish? How? If you're moving around in a small space, you put less pressure on the run button and he'll take corners much easier. If you have to turn in place, hold B. There is nothing nightmarish about it, just takes a small amount of time to get used to... If you try just powering through it and not learning the precision of the controls, of course you're gonna have a bad time. The only serious complaint about the controls I hear often that is actually valid is the fact that looking around while walking/running is a pain in the ass...

Regarding the first Shenmue, I think it's a good thing that Sega have refused to add the time skip option from the second game. A big part of the charm of the first game was the way it captured the monotony of everyday life, and I think waiting around for time to pass was an essential part of simulating that montony.

The waiting never really bothered me, personally. I often spent time in the arcade or just looking at the environment or Nozomi's character model (I was a teenager back then, and I thought the graphics were so far ahead of anything I had ever played on a console). But anyway, I really think having to wait for time to pass added to the overall sense of immersion as it compelled the player to explore and appreciate the game in a way that they probably wouldn't have done if the option to speed up time were present.

The lack of time skip probably won't go down well with the instant gratification crowd, though.

So you are the one who says what is wrong and what is right ? I see.

If movement is not improved properly in the new releases, don't be surprised when everyone who actually tries the game says they are not practical.

I'm just following logic of good game design. Shenmue's control is awkward and different but there's nothing inherently wrong with it other than the one valid point I mentioned. It's user error and/or lack of ability to adapt that is the issue, not the controls themselves. You said you have nightmare navigating tight areas... clearly you are the issue since people who understand how the controls work have no issue with it.

And honestly I wouldn't be surprised if today's even more casualized audience acts even more goofy about it. Every game these days plays the same across genres and people are so used to the same controls that the concept of learning something new is seen as a flaw rather than a feature. But that's why they're improving the controls, to try and prevent that barrier of entry for troglodytes...

Its the same with people who say like MGS2 or 3 have terrible controls. No, they don't, they have very weird and bizarre controls, but great controls none the less. You just have to learn an entirely unique control scheme that initially doesnt seem to make sense, which to some means bad controls.

Exactly. It's different and takes time to get used to, but once to master it you'll be popping headshots and doing pull ups in no time. Shenmue controls are similar in that regard, despite being MUCH less complicated in comparison lol.

ACTUAL bad controls are games that don't allow you to properly control the action on screen due to a variety of issues. Poor button placement(like shenmue's camera), lack of options, etc...

Any news on if there is going to be some kind of 'special edition'? I'm looking to get the PS4 version, some kind of special case or even just a fancy cardboard sleeve would be nice given how iconic this game is!

It has been a while since I played Shenmue on my dreamcast but, from what I remember, I actually liked the controls and prefer the system of using the triggers to run and d-pad to walk around. Took some getting used to but the general slow pace of the game made it work, plus I lited just holding the controller one handed with my finger on a trigger running in a strait line.

I bought shenmue 1 at launch and remember it was very boring. Never understood the hype around this game.
(On a side note I am finally a full member after 3 years...no juinor for me.....woohoo!)

Can't wait, already pre-ordered! A series I've been meaning to play for as long as I can remember.

Finally.

It's mostly about attention to details. Remember that it was the very beginning of "open worlds", and Shenmue still went far further than most in the interaction with the world. Explore your home, and you can open any door or drawer. See a phone ? You can use it to call your friends. Enter a shop, you can grab any exposed item. Go talk to NPCs, they all have their own life and sometimes even interact with each other. Watch them open their umbrella when it rains and come home at the end of the day.
Now the story itself and gameplay elements may be straightforward, but as a general experience it was quite unique. At least at the time.
Of course there's also all the Sega fanservice, being able to play arcade games or collect Sega-themed figurines. And the whole "Virtua Fighter RPG" vibe.

I'd have been so happy if they just recycled the old assets/art style for the third title instead of the shiny wooden mannequin look they went for.

Btw will the remasters fix the pop-up/fading distance for NPCs ? I'm assuming they will, but I don't see it addressed in the Twitter message above.

This is a day one for me and I would like the PS4 version because Shenmue is a console franchise for me. Still, if the 30fps lock is true, I might go PC.

If they wind up emulating the games, expect identical pop-in. But if they actually port or remaster them... You could see some serious improvements. Texture resolution alone would help a ton. Fog might be gone, but that was also part of the mood of the game.

I hope they keep the playable arcade games.

These games felt clunky and slow as molasses when they were released. Their coolness came from the sense of place and time and the (what seemed like) large open world for the time. I haven’t played them since release and I feel like they will seem like they have aged very poorly. I will be buying them but I have to wonder what newer gamers will think of them.

Tbh ten years ago all i wanted was for it to be rereleased and in many aspects i want the same now. I think that the very fact this is coming out along with shenmue 3 is a real miracle. I hope it sells well because it contributed towards segas demise. It was an amazing game back in the day and i am looking forward to restarting it and experiencing yokosuka like its 1999 all over again. Its not the best game in terms of pure controls, but its a game to get into and experience. I hope the first time players enjoy and appreciate the game for what it is. It really is a part of history and one of the best consoles ever released.

4k, 16xAF, 60FPS. Beyond that, they haven't really said.

Thank you but was referring to the experience of the content of the games and the play style. If I was a fan of Yakuza series would I enjoy these? I realize that these(Shenmue I & II) seem to be a slower pace and not identical but it was the closest thing I could compare it to that I have experienced.

I still remember firing up Shenmue on the Dreamcast a few months after it launched and just being blown away by the sense of immersion and the visual fidelity. There was no other game like it at the time.

The models from Shenmue Passport are goddamn insane.
