Update on kickstarster:

Release date Announcement by Deep Silver

日本語はこちら
Hello Everyone,
Along with our publishers, Deep Silver, we have an announcement for the release date of Shenmue III. Our report follows with a comment from Mr. Suzuki.
Announcement by Deep Silver:
“ Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019.
The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe. ”
Original Announcement: Deep Silver
Comment by Yu Suzuki:
To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III.
We cannot thank you enough for your enduring support.

Shame but I feel this is needed, plus now I can take more time to play the shenmue 1&2 remaster!

Probably for the best. The opportunity to make a new Shenmue doesn't come around often enough for them to half-arse it.

Welp that really sucks, but completely predictable and a good thing in the long run. Would be nice if they actually gave us a release date this time, the dangling carrot on the stick shit is getting old, and causes fans to worry. Let's pray by this time next year they give us an official release date, if not I'll be truly worried...

This time next year? Yo, we're going to need a release date told to us this year! This would be a perfect Summer game in 2019.

More and more games shifting to 2019, I wonder if it's all coincidence or the start of a new generation.
Metro Exodus and some other games also got moved to 2019 and the list keeps growing.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

in a way it sucks, but in away it works out fine cause it will give me plenty of time to play through both Shenmue 1 & 2 HD :p

Early next year:
"We will begin with a PVP beta release in June." Oh... also, we sold the development rights to Popcap Games.

i feel sorry to those who think Shenmue 3 is gonna be even slightly as good as the original games when they came out

Considering folks have waited this long it's not like another year will make a difference.

Yeah, I'd hope people temper their expectations. Usually when there's a long layoff between games in a series, it doesn't go well. I'm not even sure if these games were that great in the first place...the whole hupplah over them was really just due to the story being unfinished.

I don't know why any company would give an early release date. Most developers have no clue when their game will be done until a few months before so almost every release date is an educated guess. And no good will come of it and it'll just piss off whiny gamers when the date is inevitably pushed back. If fans are "worried" over not getting a date then they're just immature children who don't understand the development process and I don't think a company should be tossing out some half-assed date just to please them. Sadly, it's a Kickstarter so they HAVE to give out these constant updates but it's in a normal company's best interest to give as little data as possible until they 100% know the date.

Did anyone actually expect it in 2018? I seriously regret contributing to the Kickstarter campaign. This game has disappointment written all over it.

So instead, give a date that isn't a best case scenario? Shenmue 3 has already been delayed twice... why not just say 2020 from the start and surprise us in 2019? I feel like you piss off alot more people doing it the opposite way...

Obviously Shenmue is a bit of a special circumstance, but I feel like the industry does this often in general. They give us a best case scenario release date and then delay it... I bet they think it generates hype but all it generates is disappointment...

Regarding the combat engine: didn't they said they were going to simplify it to make it more "accessible"? I guess it will be VF extra lite.

Unless they super knock it out of the park with some groundbreaking advancement or this kind of accessibility changes end up pissing off hardcore fans and still falling short of the expectations of more casual gamers... :/... hoping for the best though and we can trust in Yu Suzuki :)!

Yeah, I agree. Shenmue's combat engine wasn't very complex to begin with (I say that as someone who isn't good at fighting games), so I can't see how they can dumb it down even further without turning it into something you'd see in a GTA game. I guess we shall see.

I'd agree with this method, really, but I'd rather just not give out a date. I'm not sure why people are so obsessed with getting some release date for something that is over a year away...do we have this pocket of gamers who are so busy that they need to clear their calender in advance?...Somehow I doubt it. Gamers really don't need a date and the only people who are that obsessed over getting a release date for a game are going to buy the game no matter what happens.

And, I agree games do the delay thing too often but that's mostly rooted in the fact the devs are feeling pressure to throw out a date to fans (possibly to draw in presale dollars)...they shouldn't do one at all.

I read about this too? How the heck can it get MORE simplified? This seems like the game may be heading more in the "visual novel" territory with mostly plot and very little player interaction. The-Last-of-Us-ication of games continues.

Completely expected this!

How big is the dev team on this? I was always concerned it wouldn’t have the resources of the previous games.

I can only speak for myself, but when it comes to this game specifically, yes I need a date. I do need to plan my life around it. I am not only extremely busy, but I've been waiting for this game since I was 16 years old. Not just waiting, but longing for. It's kind of a big deal...

Sad but at this point it's normal. The only problem is the longer the time taken, the more unrealistic the expectations get. I hope it pays off.

In the meantime I will have the HD collection of I and II to mess with while I wait. I'll live. I'm used to wait for Shenmue.

Quite frankly, I would be happier if they had another kickstarter to give us the best game possible. I'd be happy to throw some more money at the game to make it best as possible.
