[E3] NeoGAF E3 Posting Guidelines

Hi everyone. E3's a fun time for the video game world, and it's a fun time to follow things on NeoGAF. Every year we set some basic guidelines for posting during E3 to keep things sane and structured on the forum.

1) New threads for new news. This always applies on NeoGAF, but for E3 in particular, it's easy for interesting news to get lost in some conference megathread. If something breaks during a conference, post a new thread for it (you can still continue talk in the conference thread too of course). When you post a new thread for new news, you don't need to spend an hour on the thing, but try to avoid ultra-reactionary empty OPs with "omg xyz was announced" without any linkage or other material included. Please at least link a source or include a screenshot if it's something breaking from the conference stream directly etc. where possible.

2) Labels help. Threads with general information about E3 the community has already been self-labeling with the [E3] tag, and that's a-ok and let's go with that. For news coming out of the other conferences, label new threads about info coming out of those respective conferences with:
[E3-EA]
[E3-MS]
[E3-Beth]
[E3-Devolv]
[E3-SquEn]
[E3-Ubi]
[E3-PC]
[E3-Sony]
[E3-Nin]
[E3-LTD]

General stuff from the E3 show floor or other non-conference-related announcements can just use the [E3] tag.

e.g. Thanos is revealed as the final boss of the all-new Zelda game, during the Nintendo E3 conference. Thread title:

[E3-Nintendo] The Legend of Zelda: Thanos Beats the Pulp out of Link revealed!

Try to include a little info, context, a screenshot if possible, and if there isn't a formal link yet that's fine, but if there is or if one can be edited in later, great.

3) Please don't bump old existing irrelevant threads during E3 week, either to necrobump a dead old thread to post E3 news, or just to fuck around. We're not hardasses but malicious behavior like that will be dealt with. As always, please be respectful and decent to each other while we scream bloody murder about the awesome new video games.

The mod team and I will be watching over things and our sysadmins will be keeping NeoGAF alive and stable. Thanks and have fun. Thread will be left open to clarify questions related to the above but please stay on topic.

Also, we have an official Twitter bot posting all the new gaming side threads for the folks who like Twitter aggregation (@neogafnewthread used to do this unofficially, but stopped working when we migrated in January):

https://twitter.com/NeoGAFThreads

e.g.

Michele

you.
Hello,

Did you know that you can post here? I mean...This is a guideline, yes, but doesn't this mean this has to be closed? Usually, guidelines and rules threads are closed so that only users can view, so that nobody can post on a rules/guidelines thread. Is it intentional, EviLore EviLore ?

What about games that appear in several conferences? A trailer for Game X and then different information for the same game at another conference? It seems better to just do [E3-2018].

If it's platform-specific or a first appearance at a specific conference, we use the label for that conference. If it then shifts to being covered by multiple conferences then mods can edit the thread title down to just [E3] afterward. Thanks!

Would have been cool to have tighter E3 conferences OP requirement, like having a standard voting poll so that it's used as a way to measure general sentiment and not joke, and also to have the thread reference and link all the various announcement for them be useful.

We're flexing the standards based on the importance of the conference etc. The poll for, say, Devolver or Bethesda is not really that consequential relative to the rest of the conferences. Polls rating Sony vs MS vs Nintendo we're keeping more standardized so that "winners" can be determined there in more direct and relevant competition. Thanks for the feedback.
