ITT: A whole lot of people who have absolutely no clue about Cyberpunk.

ITT: A whole lot of people who know what they like and what not.

As I said, it'll likely be a great game. But most people expected something more like Bladerunner, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, etc.. That trailer didn't transport that atmosphere.

Don't be so tense. It's a first impression. It'll change. :)

This game is going to be great. Really looking forward to it! Glad to finally see something from it.

I was worried about a generic protagonist, but users on other forums already pieced together all the secret messages in the video that confirm you creat your own character.

The verticality of world will be incredibly fun to explore with flying cars.

Yeah. I hope we maybe see some gameplay footage beyond the trailer to give us some sense of the world in terms of traversal. I suspect they'll have sacrificed the expansiveness of TW3 in terms of the ground footprint to provide the complexity of the vertical stack.

This is a good and bad thing at the same time.

Can you link those discussions?

I was a bit turn off by the trailer, the narrator's voice was awful, the whole premise looks nothing like the dark grim atmosphere the genre commands. However the incredible scenes, mechanics, the dream of the possibilities and my personal faith in CDPR saved the day. I truly trust those guys with basically anything, almost blindly like I would anything by From Software.

Looks amazing. There are lot of people making ridiculous assumptions and statements based on a single cinematic trailer. Either they don’t understand what cyberpunk is or they have been purposefully waiting to shit on this game regardless of what was shown.

Never change internet. Never change.

Great choice to show it mostly by day and break convention that way. Still holds up, which means at night it's gonna crush.

My problem with the daylight is that it wasn't a good cyberpunk daylight showing from my expectations. I'm expecting more smog, people being about doing more mundane ordinary things, better use of shadows and contrasting backgrounds. I think the problem was just the contrast and use of light. I'm hoping it's just the trailer, because I took a quick check of Ghost In The Shell (1995) and Blade Runner, and daytime had a better feel there.

People are judging a game based on what they've seen, yes.

At first the tonal shift took me by surprise, but that trailer is so chock-full of little amazing details, it gets only better after each viewing.

Took some screenshots from the 4K trailer and tried to catch the crispest frames, but it's not perfect and imgur compression sucks. Sorry if the quality isn't up to par.

Looks very cyberpunk to me, can't wait to see more! My augmented body is ready to immerse itself in its nightmarish corporate driven sprawling technoslums.

Don't know, that is a cyber punk like game indeed.
The image with the taxi driver is rather stereotypical, Indian driving a taxi and 3 people in the back seat look like albino's with guns.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Microtransactions in a single player RPG game? Are you nuts?

God, I love those guys.

full transcript:

It's been over 2077 days since we announced our plan to develop Cyberpunk 2077. We released a CGI trailer, gave some interviews and... went dark. Normal procedure for these kinds of things - you announce a game and then shut up, roll up your sleeves, and go to work. We wanted to give you The Witcher 3 and both expansions first, which is why this period of staying silent was longer than we planned. Sorry for that.

As soon as we concluded work on Blood and Wine we were able to go full speed ahead with CP2077's pre-production. But we chose to remain silent. Why? At some point, we made a decision to resume talking about the game only when we have something to show. Something meaningful and substantial. This is because we do realise you've been (im)patiently waiting for a very long time, and we wouldn't want anyone to feel that we're taking this for granted. On the contrary - it gives us a lot of extra motivation. The hype is real, so the sweat and tears need to be real, too :).

But to the point. Today is the day. If you're seeing this, it means you saw the trailer - our vision of Cyberpunk, an alternative version of the future where America is in pieces, megacorporations control all aspects of civilised life, and gangs rule the rest. And, while this world is full of adrenaline, don't let the car chases and guns mislead you. Cyberpunk 2077 is a true single player, story-driven RPG. You'll be able to create your own character and..., well, you'll get to know the rest from what we show at our booth at E3. Be on the lookout for previews!

Before we finish, you probably have some questions, right?

  1. When? When we told you we would only release the game when it's ready, we meant it. We're definitely much, much closer to a release date than we were back then :), but it's still not the time to confirm anything, so patience is still required. Quality is the only thing that drives us - it's the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher.
  2. How big? Seriously big, but..., to be honest, we have no bloody clue at this point in time. Once we put it all together, we will openly tell you what you can expect. And we promise we'll do this before we start talking about any pre-orders or ask anything of you.
  3. Free DLC/Expansions/DRM? Expect nothing less than you got with The Witcher 3. As for DRM, CP2077 will be 100% DRM-free on PC.
  4. Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?
Once again, thank you for your patience. If you have a minute, do visit cyberpunk.net and share your opinion (about anything) with us. We read everything you post and we treat it very seriously.

I'm not worried, but the tone of this definitely seemed wrong for Night City.

How do you not?
Its made by the same dev that made the witcher games, overwatch has a stylized art style and Cyberpunk 2077 has an art style that is closer to photorealism than anything else. srsly thats like saying crysis 1 looks like fortnite man. Cyberpunk 2077 isnt even a multiplayer game dude, overwatch is multiplayer only.

A bit different than modern sci-fi visions but it's based on Cyberpunk RPG and it matches it perfectly. Kinda wish it was more of Blade Runner 2049 vibe but I have 100% trust in CDP guys that it will be amazing.

I have to admit something, I never bought or played Witcher series.

So I hope Cyberpunk 2077 is the Witcher like game for me.

It does get better on a second viewing. Some system shock.

A bit confused - was a lot of that in-game assets, but non-gameplay ?

I don't mean to be rude, but its clear a lot of people don't know shit about cyberpunk outside of blade runner.

Guys, the sun is allowed to exist. It's not that big a deal.

This is everything I aesthetically would want from a game from this genre. It even manages to hit the right chords the same way GITS does it for me.

Mr. Grumpy

Grumpy see, Grumpy do.
It looks nice to me but I really need to know more about the gameplay than I do right now before I can decide whether it's for me or not.

I dont care who is making it, it looks like pixar with bad animations to me.

Loved it.

Cyberpunk doesn't always have to be drab. There's room for various visual styles.

I just hope I won't need a new PC to play this game when it does come out.

I can't even process the mixed reception here. This trailer wrecked my shit.

This is up there with Twilight Princess on trailers I'll never forget.

It's allowed to exist, but with the large cities and pollution problem, it's likely that it'll be far less prevalent.

Like using Ghost In The Shell as an example:

Or an example like Akira.

It felt like it from the trailer had a very weird presentation of a daylight typical cyberpunk setting. I feel like you need to be good with contrast and with layering of the society (showing contrasts there as well) to give a good representation of daylight Cyberpunk as I'm used to. It's just a trailer, so the actual game might be different, but it just didn't give a great impression to me. It's the cityscape, it didn't really jive when I saw it.
