Are people complaining about the games or the conference itself? The games looked fantastic to me, but the format was very strange. Don't do it again Sony. Just stick with the 2015 and 2016 format.

Maybe it was because I had a bunch of technical issues while trying to watch this (resorted to turning on the Disney XD channel during the Ghosts of Tsushima portion, only to have them inexpertly try to blur out the violent bits. Ugh.) but I was not impressed. The format felt like a half-step between Sony's usual grand show and... I dunno, Treehouse or maybe an eSports commentary section, whatever they were going for it just came off awkwardly.

What games they had were pretty, but I didn't see a lot of compelling actual gameplay. Spiderman gave a decent preview, but that "cinematic" webslinging itches my brain in a bad way. Like, I'm glad you made the webs visually attach to buildings, but would it kill you to wait until the web attached before he started to swing?

It wasn't a terrible conference or anything, but I expected Sony to come out on top this year, or at least in the #2 spot. Microsoft may not have a whole lot to offer this in terms of exclusives, but if we're talking about who put on the better show, I think I'd have to give it to them.

TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima and KH3 really stood out for me. God damn, I'm just gonna watch KH3 trailer again.

Calm down man, its just a video game opinion. No need for cussing.
I'm sorry but every time he compares every game that has swords to DMC. That means every game is disappointing to him unless its DMC.

I think people expected too much from the Sony conference, it could of been presented a little better but I think everyone was already spoiled from all the Multiplat titles Microsoft showed. Microsoft pulled off the illusion of a good conference by showing a bunch of titles that aren't theirs. The way they presented the titles made it look like to the uneducated consumer that these are Microsofts.

Totally agree. I go into any E3 conference with moderate expectations at best since it isn't the major show it used to be over a decade ago. I'm legit surprised people are bringing up the presentation, I've never really cared about that ever. Like it honestly never occurred to me. I just care about the games. They showed off what I wanted to see, everything looked amazing, and even showed a new IP. I couldn't have asked for anything more, but again that's what I want out of a press conference. If people wanted tons of new reveals then I can see why they'd be disappointed, but if that's your expectation you're setting yourself up for major disappointment going forward IMO. It doesn't seem to be what E3 is about anymore with some exceptions.

I actually loved what we saw of the combat in Ghosts of Tsushima.
The devs talked a bit during that short post show and said they want it to feel like you are playing as an experienced warrior who fights with precise attacks. So I can really see how they will be going for a "you deal a lot of damage but so do your enemies" kinda combat which is exactly what I want in a somewhat "historical" Samurai game.

You can sort of see it in that first fight they show. Enemies go down fast but I'm guessing if you screw up a few times so do you

I think Microsoft's conference was better in terms of the presentation. I think having the Last of Us 2 revealed at a church and then taking a break just killed some of the pacing. However, I believe Sony did a better job at selling their brand because their exclusives are far better than what Microsoft showed at their E3 conference. Being "Better" is of course subjective, but I'm positive their 4 big games are going to sell people on the Playstation brand, more so than what Microsoft showed at their confernece. Most of the titles they showed at both conferences are multi-platform games, and what people are going to remember are the exclusive are exclusive games when looking back at both conferences.

I was sold on Ghost of Tsushima in that conference. The rest I was gonna buy anyway...well, kinda less enthusiastic about Death Stranding.

I must be broken I don’t understand how y’all get this joy, amazement, and entertainment out of the single player story driven games.

Its super weird to me but once I picked up a 360 played RB6, and COD4 and never went back to playing single player A.I. again. I mean I grew up in late 80’s, early 90’s played tons of single player games, played all the great games on PS1 and PS2, then Twisted Metal Black and SOCOM gave me that taste of online MP, I took a break from gaming a while then a friend talked me into 360 and it’s been online MP ever since.

"Who won E3?" discussions are so pointless. I care about the games. We rate conferences like they will affect the games.

Show was alright. Most of the games looked cool but there wasnt anything special. Death Stranding trailer was just weird and boring and RE2 hype got killed by the leak.

Still gonna probably buy most of those games thoough.

To be fair, it does.

Like it or not, the industry is a business and how successful one company is compared to the other will invoke competition.

For example, I think it should be alarming that both Sony & MS conferences are featuring multiplatform games instead of exclusives. Otherwise, why have 2 separates shows if they're starting to show the same games?

If MS had a good showing, it would force Sony to do something better the next year. And vice versa should happen if Sony performs better in a year and MS wakes up to it. Otherwise, both companies stop competing and we're dished rehashes.

Different tastes.
I for example don't really care for most multiplayer games (outside of coop). I'll play a few every now and then with friends and I love rocket legue but to me there's nothing like a good single player game. It's single player games which make me consider gaming one of my main hobbies and motivate me to go to sites like GAF to talk about them. If all we had were multiplayer games they'd just be this thing I do when I'm bored and there's nothing to do

Except you can't really say that. If they were white, who would complain about how "white people are chosen to represent the good"? One thing is determining things like that on an individual basis, which would have to be analyzed after the game comes out (since you don't know who the good and evil people are in the game and what ethnicity they have), and on an aggregate basis and even then it's still dubious due to many factors.
Relax, critique it if it feels forced when you play it and not be overly sensitive about it. Had it been gameplay or visuals, I could understand being critical at this stage, but "these people of color are good, and those white people are bad" is something I'm pretty sure just seems like pulling out of your ears, considering how little we know about the story.
Nobody would complain if "white people where chosen to represent the good". But if the "baddies" were 2 lesbians, an asian and a black guy and his white girlfriend, I am sure there would be consequences. Because nobody would believe that was a coincidence. Those characters were hand chosen for their race and sexual orientation. To me, that's obvious.

I am all for inclusivity, but I like it more subtle, more natural.

I don't watch the shows, just the trailers and announcements. I appreciate real games with real game play and not just trailers with no release years.

Seems Sony just make heavily scripted Uncharted clones these days with a new texture pack setting.

Spidey should be cool though.

Pretty mediocre showing. There were no surprises, the conference itself felt disjointed, the music numbers were horrible, and I'm getting bored of third-person action games with over-the-shoulder cameras. The church opening had a weird cult atmosphere that created a weird intermission that seemed to confuse everyone in the audience.

As for the games:
- TLOU2 looked scripted as fuck and I'm indifferent to smelly lesbians.
- Nioh 2 looked good and Ghost was amazing, but I'll probably pass them both up in favor of Sekiro. I'm not going to buy more than one samurai game this year.
- Kingdom Hearts will be good, but it's hard to feel excited about a game that was revealed three years ago. Spider-man looked great, but it looked great last year too.
- Death Stranding still looks weird, and I'm still not sure if the game looks fun.

Resident Evil 2 looks awesome. Most of the games they showed are going to be good, but RE2 is the only one that really excited me. It actually has a release date too!

mod edit: 'smelly lesbians' is not a slight on the LGBT community but a reference to the trailer itself where Ellie actually says the character smells like garbage. Generated a report or two so best to clarify.

I like to play games that I can take my time to enjoy, and solve the problem and challenges present by that game. At least single player game, I get to play it from start to finish, and then move on to the next new games with different experiences. I love that single player game give me a sense of accomplishment.

I've done online games, from Counter-Strike to Fortnite, but I've grown tired of online matches because it all play just the same and offers very little incentives for me to continue playing it.

Simple, People enjoy different things. I could say same thing about MP. To me there lifeless and I get bored of it in a week.

I didn't like the presentation structure, very disjointed, lacked any flow and the music wasn't impactful like when they did GOW.
Sony have the games though, Ghost of Tsushima looked stunning and is now my most anticipated game. SP are just next level. Spider-man, Death Stranding and Nioh 2 are definite buys and i'm very hyped about them. RE2 remake looks great, I never finished the og so should be good.
TLOU2 combat looks very brutal, looking forward to it but find the story heavy.
Control looked interesting too.
Xbox had the better show but PlayStation had the games.

Well all that gameplay was heavily scripted prerecorded videos for cinematic effect. It's not like they played them live on stage.

Unfortunately, that's what a lot of PlayStation fans like...I mean I've bought a few myself.

Me too but that type of game has wore thin on me. If you have played a few you have played them all pretty much.

They do a decent job on stories and production value, but the actual gameplay is so repetitive and predictable and cheap. Though to be fair I think most genres these days are a bit long in the tooth.

Yeah, I wouldn't at all complain if ND went back to doing something a bit less...movie, and more to their roots with something lighthearted like Jak and Daxter.

Bit disingenuous , no?

The games are nearly all different in tone, gameplay, character and story... The only commonality being the camera perspective.
GOW is very different to TLOU and that is still very different to Uncharted. Horizon is open world , while the others are linear or hub based. Bow combat vs gun or blade combat. Detroit is then completely different to all of those.
Don't forget about TLG, Ratchet and Clank, Infamous , Killzone and LBP. Everybodys Golf. Dreams. Shadow of the Colossus , GT.
Sony make a damned effort.

Can't really ask much when the game is going for a more realistic type of gameplay mechanics. There are many games like this on the market and they don't even come close.

You can look at a game like Rise of the Tomb Raider and the combat in The Last of Us 2 look way more fluid and realistic.

I think MS was better as far as what they showed..
MS showing was pretty much without substance though, a Gears and Halo that's not coming anytime soon. A battletoads game that would be better off not being announced, not even a screen. Lots of multiplatform games that's coming to every platform, another Forza Horizon game. DLC for games that either run bad or review bad and has been released. PUBG and SOT.

I saw 4 games that have great graphics, saw gameplay for each, one lands this year...and it seems people are actually hyped for the multiplat shown in RE2...Even remedy's game made the cut to the Sony conference. Here's the thing, there's only one place to play Spiderman this year, but if I want my racing thrill, I can pick up the Crew 2 or many others, so Horizon is not a must have game for the holidays like Spiderman will be...

maybe the reason they didn't show anything new apart from Nioh 2 is because all their upcoming new games are for next gen

lets say next year we get TLOU 2, GoT and Nioh 2, in 2020 we may get DS and PS5's launch games

do we know if Control (Quantum break 2) is an exclusive or not yet ?

MS might have more games, but other than DMC5, for myself, nothing was mindblowing. Sony blew my mind over and over, and they had less games. That's just the power of Sony. Put on a good show for each game rather than having stupid "self-massaging" talks throughout. Let the games speak for themselves.

My favourite part was DMC5, but that was just a standard trailer and is nowhere near how RE2 was revealed.

Sony's exclusives is still miles ahead of Microsoft's, but E3 conference for Microsoft's was much better and more enjoyable than's Sony's

when i watch E3 i expect new announcement instead of just gameplay for already revealed games, and that's what Microsoft did at this E3, sadly most of it's conference was leaked so that heavily effected the element of surprise or else it could have been one of the best conferences alongside Sony's E3 2015 and 2016

I was so confused by the beginning of this conference. Showing TLoU2 in a tent, cutting to the guys outside, then going to another tent to just show video without anyone ever going on the stage is just such a foreign concept for a conference.

This is some serious stuff there and there are very few mentions on the Internet.

What did exactly happen there? You saw The last of us: Part 2 in a tent, then all the audience moved to an other tent for the rest of the conference?

1)This was about to happen? It wasn't a technical issue at all?
2)And why did Sony choose to heavily rely in their panel instead of on stage presentation? At the end they didn't even say a clear "Goodbye/Moving to post-conference" or something.

Really?

That last of us demo wasn’t even the real game. Just stupid scripted smoke and mirrors nonsense.

The AI just PERFECTLY follows the character around and hits every single beat lol.
