[E3-Sony] Ghost of Tsushima

Game looked beautiful and the combat looked tactical when facing off with enemies with use of stealth allowing you to clear a room quickly along as you can swing around the camera quickly enough ala MGS5’s brief slo-mo system I don’t think it’s going to be as automated as some are complaining about. And hope my observations are correct in making each encounter an adrenaline rush of blocks, parries and perfectly timed strikes in order to take down foes.

Sucker Punch said:
The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan—until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima, wreaking havoc and conquering the local population. As one of the last surviving samurai, you rise from the ashes to fight back. But honorable tactics won’t lead you to victory. You must move beyond your samurai traditions to forge a new way of fighting—the way of the Ghost—as you wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Japan.

Not new but it's a interview about the game from last year so may be useful.

best thing at Sony's E3, i wanted Tenchu for a long time, i got Ghost of Tsushima, it may not be the same, but it's similar and i hope i don't get disappointed

I’ll also add it wouldn’t be much of a showcase if you showed the combat with someone that fumbled with the controls while playing which would have destroyed the immersion aspect they were going for with its first gameplay reveal

This is the third best game of E3 behind cyberpunk 2077 and TLOU II. Absolutely surreal and I feel lucky to be able to see what I've seen. It was a "day-one buy", now it's a "day-zero wait in line to get it as early as possible" purchase.

Ghost of Tsushima for my realistic feudal Japan fix. Sekiro for fantasy feudal Japan fix omg with nioh 2. Just hope nioh 2 can put together a seamless world together like from software can instead of the node levels you replay over and over again

It was insane Bushido Blade vibe. Obviously, they had more health, but the fighting was like meaningful hits, even better than For Honor.

They even made it feel like having incredibly cinematography. It's insane gameplay.

The game looks stunning and brave to feature a Japanese protagonist coming from a Western developer. I really hope they don't hold back on the gritty reality of the Japanese back then.

Wasn't really sold on the combat, but everything else looked amazing. That grappling hook gives me Tenchu vibes. Hope there is a stealth mechanic. Though, I'm sure you play the role of a samurai more than a ninja.

Sucker Punch has consistently been a pretty good studio and I expect this to be a cool open world game.

Azelover

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Visually stunning.

But the gameplay, which mind you is the most important thing, didn't seem to be my cup of tea.

Looks really good and it's great there will be japanese voices but I need to see some more gameplay first.

Everyone confused or complaining about the combat, needs to go watch some classic samurai films and Google iaijustu. This game nails samurai combat in a way I have only dreamed of.

I jizzed like 3 times watching that gameplay reveal. My god, a big budget feudal era Japanese samurai/ninja setting is everything I wanted from Ass Creed. But since that franchise has quite literally become ass creed, Sony/SP has scratched that itch better than Ubisoft ever could.

Just hope the game comes out this year, but not holding my breath. I'll remain hyped until then.

You have no idea how glad I am Sucker Punch is one using the Japanese for their games instead of Ubisoft.

Sucker Punch making a samurai game more authentic than any Japanese developer has even come close to is ironic, but amazing.

Exactly, Kurasawa and more modern takes like Zataoichi. I don't know what people expect? Maybe they want it to be more like manga or cartoons but this is more authentic.

I like how the flow to everything felt. The wind, the birds in the sky, the colors of the trees, and how the character felt.

I was hoping we'd see him in his dark outfit like the original reveal. Maybe a magical blade or something. It looked cool. I really liked the footage. Damn shame Capcom can't make another Onimusha like this.

The straw suit was meh, but that's ok lol

I think it because Japanese developers always going for more fantastical and over the top while western goes for more grounded setting.

Almost 4 years since infamous first light released. This game SHOULD be 2nd quarter 2019 release date at the latest I HOPE.

Game looked fantastic despite some judder. It looked as if the lady was going to stab him in the back before the screen went black.

If we are ghost... How can we interact with anything? Ghosts are supposed to be a...well you know. They going trough walls, invisibility.

The one thing that bothers me is that he is using a uchigatana at a time (13th century) when there were none. He should be wielding a tachi (worn blade down with a very noticeable curve). Also the way he over extends his attacks bothers me. As someone who has been doing kenjutsu since high school these little things bother me and at the same time disappoint me when a Japanese studio makes these mistakes. I don't really care when they make mistakes regarding proper sword fighting in Nioh, Souls, etc., but games based on history should be held to a higher standard.

I understand your gripe. But It is an age old problem of taking source material and changing things up without a need to for the heck of it. Be it books made into games and movies. Games and anime made into movies or tv shows. It’s a fruitless endeavor to get frustrated with the new media being made and not sticking to the source material but one I still take part in the feeling of disappointment and it takes the enjoyment out of it. Unless we had the financial means to pay for the development itself in order to ensure it stuck to canon. We are stuck having to find enjoyment in other people’s visions. I hope it doesn’t ruin it too much for you

wow, beautiful response, thank you very much. I really should enjoy what we are getting and not complain about things that "could have/should have". I will still call out these things however, in the hopes that somebody will one day notice them and take them into account when making their own game. Also, it is good to educate others (not in a smug way but in an honest one) about topics they are not intimately familiar with.

The game looks beautiful, but that's about it.
From a gameplay perspective it reminds me of Ryse, but more clunky.
I look at this game as being in the hack n slash genre, so for me other games blow it away right now. Sony seems to be running on "pretty" and "cinematic" right now, to the point their games have started melding with each other. I honestly expected to be blown away by the sword play, but Sekiro and even NiOh from last year look WAY more fun. I guess if realism.and authenticity is your cup of tea this might be fun.

I'm a bit sour on this. I was hoping they would take the time to a bit of research for the game, so we could get some authenticity. Looks like whoever was on point for that did a quick look on wikipedia, watched some movies, and called it a day.

The graphics were nice. And that was like the only thing that was worth raising your eyebrows for. Three games announced with this setting in the span of two days? What a bummer.

Watching the trailer I was getting Witcher 3 mixed with Way of the Samurai vibes. Which made me very excited! This looks great, I can’t wait to play it.

yeah for me the walking at the start along the path reminded me a lot of WotS.

the combat did, too.... it was kinda.... not janky but, it felt a little bit like the footwork had you in a 'target lock' mode or almost like a fighter. something about the movement back and forth.

anyhow, liked what I see either way. hope there's good outfit customization or something, would be fun changing 'loadouts' and outfits for different environments, sort of a la MGS 3/V or GR Wildlands.
