I didn't know Microsoft dropped Remedy.

They're surely going to regret it. This game looks great, like Quantum Break without the stupid TV shit.

Reminds me a little of a game I loved ages ago:

They were never first-party. They obviously had a good working relationship, so they were like "second-party", but they were never owned by MS at any point.
Oh I know that, but good partnerships isn't something you want to lose. Sony has a ton of them, and they are benefiting because of it.

I thought Remedy was one of those "would purchase", but I guess Quantum Break didn't go well after Microsoft was pushing their tv shit onto them.

I guess it's like how Sony dropped Ninja Theory, and now they're with Microsoft. Nothing to be missed though.

Microsoft's early tv angle never intruded upon Remedy's direction of QB. An interview years ago with Sam Lake clarified this. Nor was the tv aspect ever planned to be larger than it ended up being. The original tv plot was scrapped early on though and made to more closely follow the game narrative.

Anyway I'm going to be cautious about this after QB, which I thought wasn't very good at all.

This game is coming to Xbox and PC as well, why would MS have any regrets about this?
Because they missed out on acquiring a pretty good studio they had good relationships with. It's like letting go of Bungie. Max Payne is top tier, and Alan Wake is pretty good.

Eh I don't believe that. They were deep in Microsoft pockets and had to do what they said. Microsoft had a huge TV initiative at the time, so I don't think the decision was made separately.
also reminds me of quantum break.
But as remedy develops, this game is likely to arrive on PS5 … 4-5 years from now on ;)
People say Quantum Break's gameplay was good, but the TV stuff was really boring. Quantum Break was 2 years ago.

It looks too much like QB, and QB was mediocre even without the TV stuff IMO, so I'm not very interested. I've never found their games very good in the gameplay department, to be honest. I always felt like they were missing some proper avoidance/defense mechanics. Max Payne was fine, but everything after that had always some issue or another.

Their technology is also pretty bad. It resembles John Carmack's megatextures in Rage: an amazing technical feat which solves a very hard problem (in their case, real-time global illumination), but introduces consequences which makes the overall product worse instead of better (in their case, blurry visuals due to the hugely increased impact of resolution over performance, a ridiculous tradeoff when we are all migrating to 4K).

Control isn’t a Sony exclusive, it was simply shown at the show, so MS is probably happy they didn’t have to take the risk to help fund it. I personally really liked Quantum Break, so I’m looking forward to getting Control on PC (I’ve now been getting the PC version of games when available and now only get console exclusives on the consoles).

Because the game could have been exclusive to their system. You know, exclusivity, the word Phil got on stage and tried to preach the importance of.

True, but unfortunately, their lates games have not garnered commercial nor critical acclaim. They have been average at best. Unique, but average.

I think MS should have bought Remedy. They are very talented. Reminds me of the relationship between Sony and Ninja Theory. Ironic How things played out.

I don't think there's any reason to doubt that. Remedy were already deep down the transmedia road after Alan Wake

Here is some more info:

So what is Control? It is in many ways something familiar, yet new from us. It’s a supernatural third person action-adventurewith a cast of memorable characters and that twisted story you expect from Sam Lake and the rest of us at Remedy. Control is also a more gameplay-driven experience that gives players a lot of options on how to approach combat by giving you some cool supernatural abilities to upgrade, as well as the transforming Service Weapon that you can customize and develop. Control is a lot less linear of an experience compared to our previous games and offers more of a sandbox for players to enjoy and plenty of secrets to find in the Oldest House. Speaking of which, the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control is a very cool location for our game…we can’t wait to show you more on that. Finally, our heroine Jesse is another intriguing Remedy character with a mysterious past that you will get to discover… maybe.

I'm really excited about this and good that its coming to PS4 too. Max Payne and Alan Wake were great games but I haven't played Quantum Break. I don't have Xbox One.

Seems promising. I liked Quantum Break, but too often the levels were just to small and cramped and I never felt like I could fully utilize all the insanity of the combat system, especially since it took a long while for me to gather enough points for upgrades. This looks more freeform and open, while still having the crazy mechanics.

QB was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the trailer. As one who has greatly enjoyed Alan Wake and QB I'm really looking forward to this.

Oh of course, glad to see you take the high road on that acquisition. Can you be any more obvious in being a console warrior? I also look forward to Insomniacs new VR game and how Sony's close relationship with them is paying off. Control is still coming to Xbox One and PC so maybe you should focused on how more people will get to enjoy it rather than your obsessive nature to always downplay the Xbox One.

Player volition has been a guiding point for us, letting the player choose what they want to do and still telling the story. But it’s been really challenging in that it’s almost something totally new that we’re trying – as a writer, I have never done this on any game. So we’re innovating as we go.
Remedy always wants to push the envelope. I can’t think of a game that’s doing the things that we’re planning to do.
Well, you are of course never making your games in a vacuum. We wanted to create an experience that lasts longer. We wanted to bring in new elements – more sandboxes, less linearity, a deeper action game – and see what the Remedy game version of that is. But always at Remedy, we want to find a combination of things that makes our games unique, and do our own thing. It never feels like chasing after a trend, or trying to copy a successful formula. Because then you are already too late.
For me, the interesting thing has always been finding new mediums of storytelling or meta-storytelling. In Quantum Break, it was ‘Let’s put in a TV show’. Here, it’s letting the world do the storytelling. We take elements from roleplaying design with NPCs, and opportunities to have discussions with them. You pursue the mysteries you are interested in.
