Sure, the "fanboy"-card.

The gameplay shown, even if scripted, has been far more substantial than anything shown at MS' conference as far as exclusives are concerned.
Not to mention that the production values, graphics, animations, sound and overall details take a huge dump on anything that MS came up with.
.

Some of us don't believe another hide-in-long-grass stealth game with brutal kills & crafting is the second coming of Jesus Christ in gaming terms. Each to their own, but I've played that type of game before & it's not exactly the most exciting thing to look forwards to.

Fair enough, but doesn't that go for MS' exclusives too, especially since their games are a bazillionth installment in each franchise (apart from Ori and Crackdown) ? In which case, my point still stands.
MS doesn't have a studio as capable as Naughty Dog.
And that's just taking TLOU as an example.

MS had a more entertaining show than Sony and that's great for them. Just strange when some people are making it seem like the crucial comparison is between the conferences and not the games. It won't matter who was the first to reveal a third party game when it's finally released. In the end an entertaining conference doesn't change the fact that MS first party is still pretty much in the same position as before for the foreseaable future. If Sony had rdr2 on their e3 show, of course the conference would have been better, but it wouldn't have made ps4 a single bit more appealing.

Xbox hasn't had much success at E3 so they decided to become a 3rd party showcase, nothing in their show made me want an xbox, anything that interested me I can get on platforms I own.

Their conference seemed to have the aim of convincing existing fans they still give a shit about making decent games (at some vague point in the future ) to stop them abandoning ship. They made no attempt to sale the Xbox as unique to new customers.

Did we really need to waste 15min of conference watching 2 guys playing instruments? I think that added nothing to the conference (even if the bamboo flute guy had a cute face).

Agreed. I think Bethesda did it right with Andrew WK though. A few quick minutes of blowing brains, people looking around with wtf expressions, then back to the show.

Give it some time for the dust to settle and it'll sink in with them.
People are still high on all the games announced at MS's conference, but if you already take a look at that thread about MS's actual exclusives, it's apparent that a lot of people's minds got clouded by MS's clever PR.

This has been Sony's worst conference by far in terms of presentation, but in their defence, their competition has close to nothing to compete with them, so it isn't exactly strange that Sony came up with this bare-minimum conference.
Let's be honest, TLOU2 gameplay alone gives all of MS's exclusives combined a run for their money.

Still, I somewhat regret watching this at 3am. lol

Yeah, people are forgetting what Microsoft needs at the moment and people are going to star realizing this after this week is over.

B - Def not a BAD showcase. I appreciate gameplay being shown. People def were spoiled by MS's conference but it was 95% Multiplatform(Not a bad thing) and felt like a showing for someone with ADD.

Nintendo Direct. Superman x Super Mario crossover!!! lol

I thought they would show up here too along with Splinter Cell. Guess not. Enough megatons anyway.

I did not enjoy that at all. Felt more like an aftershow and focus was on games we already know are coming, feel like E3 should be a teaser of things to come more.

I'm not sure if it's due to the show 2 years ago being quite so strong but this felt lacklustre

Yeah there's only so many times you can do "female killing machine hiding in the bushes" - I think by next gen people will realise they've seen way too much of this and the vocal complaints will become more noticeable.

Surprising how similar the gameplay shown is to the latest showings for Tomb Raider, even down to the mud covered protagonist.

We also had another bush-hider in Aloy in Horizon, but at least that had dinosaurs in ..

Game still looked pretty good though. I'm expecting genre fatigue to set in en-masse soon after though.

People hated the conference.
This is the Twitch viewership on Playstation:
dO9lZnS.png

From 220k down to a little over 50k

That was due to technical issues on the Twitch stream. It dropped 2 or 3 times and there were issues with the sound
Okay, but the overall average for all E3 broadcasts also dropped from 1.31 million hourly average at the start of the conference to 1.19 million hourly average mid conference.
There were definitely people who turned off the stream and didn't just switch to the official Twitch channel.

Yep, indeed. I'm getting pretty sick of stealth artificially elongating the length of games (& making them tedious) as well, i.e. all I remember doing in Uncharted 4 was hiding in long grass for ages whilst guards patrolled by. The Evil Within (especially 2) also went full-stealth-retard as well. That's why Resident Evil 2 looked refreshing, because despite the age of the core concept, it's at least devoid of stealth mechanisms infecting every level & encounter.

I mean sh*t, the very first PlayStation exclusive I played this gen was Killzone Shadow Fall & it featured copious amounts of... stealth. I'm just getting fed-up with hiding in the bushes/dark.

Rant over.

Liked the conference. Zero bullshit, just the essentials. They only showed what matters (sans Spiderman).

Last of us 2: I was afraid that the new protagonist babe would be lame, but that lesbian scene, and the neck gutting won me over.
Death stranding: Damn Kojima is on psychedelics again.

Mostly pretty good. Spiderman looks pretty darn fun. NiOH2, cool. Another samurai game...decent.

Last of Us 2 continues to bore me. Ellie was the worst part of that game, don't make a game about her!

Maybe I missed it, but I just want release dates.

E3 is about games, that's what Sony showed.... games, whether you like their new conference format or not, whether the transition was smooth or not is irrelevant...Who showed the games, that are exclusive, that will rate well and sell well?.. Sony.

It seems some XBOX fans still don't quite get why XBOX is doing so poorly compared to Sony. MS only buying studios now to make games after 5 years in, is such a joke, and it was just smokes and mirrors for the most part, because it's mostly studios that were already making games for MS, studios that are just pumping in a tonne of sequels with the same formula and games which didn't rate well like SOD2. Ninja theory is not going to make anything for MS in a hurry, people actually applauded that as if they will play anything soon. Even the main games from MS, Gears and Halo won't see the light of day anytime soon. What does it tell you, when MS just released a console in the XBONEX (to tonnes of internal hype and marketing) and are already talking about XBOXTWO, they didn't even mention how XBONEX is doing in the space or anything. So yes, it's pretty clear that MS has seen the writing on the wall and is ready to belt out of this gen as soon as possible, XBONEX or not.....

So lets get this straight.....PS owners are playing Spiderman in September, RDR2 with exclusive content for the holidays, Days Gone in February. Playstation Experience in December to announce more games after this crop.......The Square enix Conference was basically a Sony Mini Conference with many exclusives to PS4, that are landing this year and beyond. So Sony could do whatever they want and yet they still showed what got them a juggernaut this gen, games, games games of high quality and graphics..

Pretty much all the multiplats MS announced will be on PS4 and sell much better there, so free marketing for Sony if anything. I love action games, so I guess I must get an XBOX to play Sekiro then? Ahh no, not even necessary. I saw a post earlier where a poster said he doesn't need to play two sword slasher games this year and he favors sekiro or why would anyone play Ghosts over Sekiro, as if the sekiro is releasing this year, neither is ghosts for that matter, but yet, those games won't play anything alike, one is more realistic. I'll play both @ said poster. Imagine a world where every japanese action game had to play like a Jet li Movie, those games have their purpose, but that would mean games like Sword of the samurai, Tenchu and Bushido blade would never get made, perhaps he was an xbox fan who likes no variety in games and nothing swaying from established formulas in his mind.......

Comparing the Last of us 2 gameplay to Tomb Raider. Do you have your glasses on? TR is so used, it's like a FIFA game. They squeeze it until money comes out of it. Needs a complete overhaul, a new protagonist and a completely different angle. I'd also like some games where Predator like action scenes are the norm, but I don't get why peepz cry about stealth oriented games when ultimately it's up to you how do you solve your problems. Face2face or knife in the back.

The problem with Microsoft is that their toxic company culture kills creativity. Plus they have like 130 billion in cash, they do whatever they please, no matter how long it takes. That's what we see around Xbox. Brute force, nothing else. It's essentially a playground for idiots. Oh well, we failed again, but here is a 50 page Powerpoint slide analyzing our failure. Time to remove the psychopaths in suits from the company and forget about that fu__ing old and used, shit smelling Microsoft name. Just create an entertainment division name it something like Fartmonkey and cut all ties from the mother company. It just poisons everything.

I never did things just to do them. What am I gonna do, pick a winner of E3 like it's something to do? Come on I got a little more sense than that.

Yeah I think Sony won E3.

Changing venues was odd. But it wasn't an issue... It was letting the streaming audience know what was going on. They could have just showed trailers, not the odd panel thing.

Also don't say we are seconds away from continuing a dozen times in five minutes. Their execution there was wrong.

But what they showed was awesome, with gameplay for most. And that's what matters in my opinion.

Great post, mate. Really something that screams "Balanced adult that enjoys gaming".

TLOU 2 gameplay looks exactly the same as the last game. Not a bad thing, not good either. Spiderman was the best thing there.

Both MS and Sony ate guilty of showing 3rd party games at their shows but at least MS made things clear.

Is RE2 3rd party or exclusive?

And no update to PS Now??? Sony...

What a horrible conference... They really need someone who understands how a show works to organize these things...

That said, the games they showed off looked really great! I was really disappointed with that Secret of something game, looked like Assassin's Creed/Witcher set in Japan. I was hoping it was gonna be something nice and fresh. But TLoU looked decent, RE2 was a great surprise, and Spiderman was excellent. Overall I rated the show a D, but my hype for my PS4 is still just as great as ever...

Sony is using EA strategy. If you are going to reveal new hardware early 2020 to release late 2020, then E3 2020 has to be one of the best ever, and the best way to do this is by lowering expectations with mediocre/bad conferences in 2018 and 2019. Then you only need a good show in 2020 for it to seem amazing in comparison with previous years.
EA does it to piggyback on the hype of a new console announcements , but they went too far this year... I expect their E3 2019 conference to be a guy coming on stage saying "we at EA are happy to announce that our studios are making games that will be released in the future! Have a good E3, bye!".

I was blown away by what was shown. They made a mistake with the venue change and that last bit where the conference ending, but not really ending, was super weird. It's clear Sony wasn't concerned with, "winning" E3. They just wanted to show their fans how awesome Playstation is going to be this year, and I can't wait for all of those games. Microsoft had a more E3ish conference, and I liked it a lot. They showed some good stuff but it's clear they are trying to be more like Sony. Unfortunately, aside from Forza and Gears. MS gave me zero reasons this year or next, to be excited for their platform. On to you Nintendo.

This is so true, but no matter who I talk to they don't get this straight. The announcements that MS did were fine, they were even great. I love playing the new Gears, Halo and what have you. I am going to play Forza Horizon soon, kudos MS! The overall picture however is, that the really big and awaited titles with something to represent are going to take time at least until end 2019 if not 2020. So to get this straight, people are looking for a console that has "World Premieres" that are all going to be released from 01. Jan - 31. March and that are actually available to the wider audiences of PC and PS4, and the very few exclusives are coming out 2018/2019 (Forza and what else?) and that's enough to "sell" a console. Maybe one that you already own - as in "sunk costs"...? How does this actually diversify you from competition to sell units - what is your USP? From the current plans for 2018 Forza Horizon 4 is one game in 2 years that is an actual unique selling proposition. In the same time frame I will be playing 100% on my PS4Pro and PC.

Overall, I am really struggling to get what actually MS managed to sell to you. Hope? I paid ~$200 for my Xbone S and it is a great blu ray player and I really am having fun with Halo, Gears, Forza and you name it. But I am completely different from most of you since I haven't played them before. For a person who has entered the Xbone from the beginning it has been a long lasting wait to actually play something new and on that note MS is not delivering anything new. They are delivering the eagerly awaited next chapters of year old franchises again and try to make up for the long wait, but where are the new chapters and IPs in the short term? So they didn't plan them in advance?

For me in the current state I am there will be a lot content coming on the XBOX and the PS4 and I will be able to pick my favorite games and enjoy them, but the arguments from MS just doesn't add up and I see a big struggle in how this changes in the next 2 years on the Xbone S or even Xbone X. How is anything going to be different here from 2018-2020? And by 2020-2021 Sony will be releasing it's new console then while having a user base of what ? 70-100 Million on the PS4.

I think Microsoft knew that they have to talk about the future and the vision of Xbone including the Xbone X, because they have clearly no tactical advantage in the here and now - we have to wait for the most part of the value proposition.
Since most people complain about the band, the music, the celebration of the here and now - we are living the content dream right now. So many games, so many franchises, so many chapters and so many genres...seriously That is what I grasp from the feedback. People never learned cherishing the now.

Microsoft sold a vision and most people like visions most it seems.
Well I have tons of content on Xbone AND PS4 until the vision comes alive.
I hope you can say the same.

I'm feeling a high D to a low C. The conference itself was one of those disasters where they went with everyone's idea at the meeting table and it ultimately killed the pace of it. I'm tired of Sony's mopey, super-serious cinematic games and now I'm a lot more excited for Sekiro than Ghosts of Tsushima, which just looks scripted into oblivion. I'm interested in Death Stranding because I like Kojima, but ultimately feel like I don't know anything more about it than I did last week. Similarly with Control, it looked promising but was still too vague to get a full reading on. It's also interesting how they're leaving PSVR out to die after such a short amount of time. All in all, it was just "comfortable Sony".

Resident Evil 2 was by far the highlight for me. That's a day one. Everything else I just had trouble finding excitement for.

I didn't watch it live, so went to a YT clip, however, compared to MS's, it had way more people just sitting and talking, which to me is uninteresting. It also had all these venue shifts/swaps, which made it feel disjointed.
And they showed too many snippets and not enough full trailers.

Well, it wasn't a conference, as they stated, it was a game showcase. So yeah, it wasn't the best conference, but I thought it was a great show. Loved the music and setting. To me, Remedy's game was a megaton, loved the death stranding and ghost of sushima footage. Last of Us 2 looked great, obviously scripted/ best case scenario. Resi 2, good. Spiderman...i'll get it when it hits $20.

Some of the games blew me away (Ghost of Tsushima), while some left me feeling meh (Last of Us 2), but I feel Sony did better than Microsoft simply because I got to see some gameplay, scripted or not. I at least got an idea of whats to come, rather than just some landscape shots to a title or nothing but a title. Sony didn't have as much, but they showed off what they did have, and that left me more satisfied. I would say a B+ but that is not an option so an A.

I am really surprised at how many of you care about the presentation... With how vocal a lot of you are about casual gamers, you'd think people here and "elsewhere" would mostly focus on the games shown...

But no, let's talk about Twitch views of the conferences to see which one was the most popular. Talk about lame.

First off, love the name; one of my favorite bands of all-time.

But I could probably sum up my problems with the presentation as this: Booth talking > Switch to church > Banjo Player > Game > Booth talking > Switch to auditorium > Flute player > Game... There was a lot of crap in the way of actually getting to the games. Microsoft, for all of their problems, just gave them to us at a rapid pace. That was far more preferable when it came to actually focusing on the games.

Honestly that was the most underwhelming conference. way too long demos. Those should have been extended gameplay trailers for YouTube, and shortened versions shown for Sony.

Sony clearly tried to replicate Xbox's conference and fell so flat on their head. There was no boom no real hitter at Sony's. Just stuff we already knew pretty much. Dreams was a nice touch tho.

When you have to sit through a shitty presentation to get to the games, it’s a problem. Why can’t Sony save the cash it wastes on stuffy venues and sound equipment and other nonsense, and just let the games speak for themselves? Why insist on wasting a viewer’s time?

For all the shit that Square-Enix got for its presentation, at least it didn’t waste our time with musical acts, lengthy monologues, cringeworthy jokes with no payoff, awkward “intermissions”, or annoying shoutcasters yelling over two dudes tapping touchscreens. Microsoft had the same idea, save for Phil Spencer loving to hear himself talk.

The games are what saved Sony’s event from being Nintendo 2008 levels of bad. If those are an A, but the overall presentation that showcases them is a flat F, you average to a C— which, as of this writing, is the popular pick.

I had to go home and watch the trailers on my TV rather than my phone to see what the negative folks were talking about and its clear that there's a lot of needless thread trolling going on.

Sony's E3 showed a handful of exclusive games with near term releases that were visually mindblowling compared to whats out, though obviously in the vein of God of war and Horizon Zero Dawn, with a differentiated narrative focus. They lacked a number of future teasers or unexpected surprises but overall they had great looking, story driven games in the short-term pipeline. Makes me think that they might be transitioning their in-house focus tothe next generation after this.

Conference wise it wasn't mindblowing but the slate of games was probably the best so far. No real controversial dissappointments like C&C Rivals or teasers for game engines.

Please ban my account. Bunch of slack jawed phaggots sucking Sony's dick. You pussies will eat anything Sony serves. Think for yourself and quit following the crowd. TLOU 2 is the same crouching, crafting, stealth kill wannabe movie bullshit as last time. Literally nothing about the gameplay has changed. Not even the fucking font.

Death Stranded... Wtf did I just watch.

No mention of PSVR or PS Now indicates a complete commercial failure.

Meanwhile MS puts together the best presentation of E3. Clearly labels each game to avoid confusion of exclusive status and you Sony cock wads turn your nose up?! GTFO! If Mark Cerny showed up to your house I'm sure most would suck his dick.

Gamepass is the future of gaming fuck boys. Wether you like it not. Pay as you go access. For $90($30 for 6 months) I'm guaranteed Forza 4, Gears 5, and access to over 100 games.

MS acquired 5 new studios that will shit on whatever Sony puts out.

God of Walking is utter trash. Every game doesn't have to be 30 hours long and take years to make.

Enjoy the circle jerk phaggots. I'm out. And enjoy paying $60 for each horseshit exclusive game while o enjoy access for less than $5 a month. Enjoy not getting EA access and more shitty Shawn Phagden conferences 😂😂😂

Yeah - just heard the Giant Bomb people say the exact same thing in their "we talk over.." video. Probably different (sub) markets . Tomb Raider is likely to appeal to the "power fantasy" type og gameplay - becoming more and more efficient and skilled as you progress; whereas I expect TLOU might be too fatigueing for the same crowd, and probably more relentlessly grim.

That's just business and markets though - I really don't have anything good to say about TR at this point, and plenty of criticisms.

A lot of people switched to Youtube when Twitch went down, so unless you have youtube metrics as well, it's hard to say that those metrics are meaningful.
There is no great tracking site for YT like this.
We could compare Like / Dislike ratio for the conferences
Microsoft 24.5:1
Sony 11.3:1

I second this.
The games shows was good, just everything around it wasn't my cup of tea.

I cannot take anyones opinion serious that rated this an A. The intermission after 1 game is the worst thing I have seen in any conference. Being forced to listen to that awful panel pushed my patience. I rated it a D. To me Sony has won the previous years simply because they tend to make straight forward conferences(like the part after the intermission). Realistically this conference was super short at like 40 minutes or so. I turned off the stream due to my confusion of whether the conference was over or not but when I saw that panel come back, I knew that I was done and anything else they could be showing wasn't important enough for the actual main event. Worst Sony conference in who knows how long.
