95 pound girl taking down guys that are 6'5 and built like trucks. Rolls eyes. The Last of Us got a hell of a lot of praise on this board, I thought it was extremely boring and ugly.

I keen to see what the final HUD looks like. This HUD seems very stripped back and very minimal. Not sure if it's just a presentation thing or if they're going for the bare minimum look. I think I remember the HUD changing from the original E3 trailer for the first game to the final product.

I think that Naughty Dog is a very average developer that is keen on pushing identity politics. I could not stand Uncharted 4, talk about shitting on your main character. Three high quality games ruined because Neil Druckmann wants to have our heroes get their ass kicked by a strong independent woman of colour that weighs 102 pounds. This trailer is fake, and I bet when the real game comes out it will be heavily downgraded. Not even the PS4 Pro can handle graphics like this. Just another overrated Sony exclusive.

Looks incredible to me. I think playing the game will come very close to what i just seen in terms of animations and AI. Naughty Dog improve animations/AI on every release i see nothing in the video that's crazy future gen.

My question is do we have a dedicated Prone button?

She looked heavier than that but ND just made a none beatable essentially.

Did they ask Santa Monica for help ? This felt like God of War level of brutality.

This will be much heavier game then the first one which wasn't exactly light.

According to Druckmann, TLOU's theme was "Love" and Part II's theme is "Hate".
That should tell us something.

No, it wouldn‘t. Though I would have asked myself what the point of such a scene is. It had no context whatsoever, be it a dude or a girl.

The way it is presented it feels forced and out of context. They just did it to provoke a reation, that‘s all.

Any scene is designed for a reaction. I don’t see this as any different. I also thought it was flat-out great.

Not impressed with the trailer. It started off good with Ellie, her friend and her girlfriend having a good time but then it suddenly had a strange tonal shift with excessive violence as its main selling point. It was a cool sequence, exciting and fast paced, but I just roll my eyes these days when the murdering is so graphic. ND did the same when they showed the first one which I also felt lukewarm about. No wonder video games comes under scrutiny for being too violent.

"How are we gonna get the audience attention for this trailer?"

"More blood and gore!!"

Kinda boring. I love The Last of Us but the constant focus on meticulous, detailed murdering and straight up executions always made me a bit sick. I know, I know, "realism" and "dystopian" and "The Walking Dead does the same to all acclaim" all that, but I don´t care. The gore in TLoU was the least thrilling aspect of the game. I hope ND downplays the violence this time around and ups the ante on the characters, the story, the emotions and drama. Those elements are where Naughty Dog shines the best. Or at least show the characters getting affected with all the killing and not script them as fucking Terminators.

I hope you get to play as Joel at some point. Ellie grew on me and it got to the point where I would have been devastated had she been sacrificed, but I'm not interested in the least bit continuing the story through her POV. For me, TLoU was all about Joel, but I'm afraid that he's being pushed aside in favor of shameless pandering.

I'll probably get over it since the storytelling in this series has been masterful, but I'm hoping at least for a DLC full of Joel kicking ass again.

I have a feeling Joel will be playable at some point in the game: either way, Ellie was brutal as fuck in that trailer...I found it great (and I normally can't 'get into' playing female protags).

LOL some real butt hurt in this thread. They come out and show you game play, yea not sh*t scripted game play... its an E3 stage demo! At the same time I see people losing their sh*t over "In Engine footage" trailers for games "OMG, so hype" "Whoooa...!!!" Gamer's really surprise me sometimes with how petty they can be. There are a lot of games that I don't like but still appreciate, I can still like the way it looks and plays but its just not for me... I guess i'm just not a hater.

LOL come on dude, it's video games. In the past couple days I've seen; a whole world contained within a "Halo," Ape flying a spaceship, I saw what the world would look like in 2077, I'm pretty sure I saw some magic, pretty sure some wizards, more talking animals, a few aliens... and we here complaining about a 96 lbs. girl taking down a 6'5 men "built like trucks" maybe video games ain't for you?

If she does
become a villain
like Joel, that would be good writing.
I think it is debatable whether
Joel was a villain. Sure, he does prevent the Fireflies from poking around Ellie's brain, and that was something Ellie was resigned to do - but at the same time, there were no guarantees that would have helped with anything. He was in full dad-mode, so at least from his perspective, he was doing the right thing. Now lying to Ellie at the end - that was a dick move. But not something I'd still call villainous.

(moved back to the proper thread)

Dude slaughtered the Fireflies. The entire resistance faction. Yes, in the end, you were playing as the bad guy.
I agree with that, in part, but from his perspective, he does the right thing. He may be horribly wrong, but that's beside the point. I think in order for one to be a villain, one must be intentionally so. That doesn't happen here.

Now for Ellie to end up doing something similar (that is, doing the wrong things for all the right reasons, at least from her perspective), I can totally see that happening. And I would definitely be onboard with that.

They are really going for the gore factor this time around. I know the first one was brutal but this has defiantly gone up a step.

Looking through the trailer though she isn't actually overpowering them. She's nearly always dodging then hitting them with a weapon which is perfectly reasonable for taking down bigger guys.

There are only two parts that are somewhat pushing it; when that guy pulls her from under the truck and is pretty much on top of her which would, seeing as he's obviously heavier and bigger, be extremely hard to get out of but not quite impossible depending on how she's placed herself and when she gets hit by the hammer guy, which probably should have knocked her on her ass in one hit. Probably, maybe.

I'd agree if she was fist fighting all of these guys, blocking their punches and throwing them around but at least in this trailer that isn't the case.

Agree with this. If a 95 pounder hits you with a cleave you are gonna feel it. And the dude at the end represented a guy that could mostly take it. EveryThing looked reasonable

Fucking wow.

I've never seen a more romantic scene in any medium than the one displayed in that trailer. Absolutely beautiful.

It takes a lot for me to be Day 1 on a game but I am there for this one. Excellent job by Naughty Dog.

He also threw Ellie with one hand like a doll over that table. That kind of thing never happened in the first game with Joel.

I have no idea how it'll play out in the final game, but that complaint isn't at all valid for this trailer.

If I remember right people were pretty taken aback by the amount of murdering in the original Last of Us reveal at E3 as well. It's actually kind of weirdly in line with the way they presented the game back then. I don't recall such a long narrative sequence though.

In terms of the overall narrative structure, the one thing I wanted to say without skirting too close to the line for this thread, is that I felt Naughty Dog's reveal of
Bill's
sexuality was the definition of pandering. It reminded me of the Dumbledore reveal. Just this pathetic, worthless attempt to appeal to people that was completely unearned. The character showed no signs of being Gay (other than the vague usage of the term "partner"), spoke nothing of it, and was just sort of briefly revealed for a second at the end in a "by the way" kind of manner. It's the kind of reveal that was quite popular at the time, and for me as a gay dude gave me absolutely nothing, but the leftist types ate that shit up like it was the most progressive thing ever. It was just lazy, and if that's the way they were going to do it they shouldn't have even bothered.

So with all that said, Naughty Dog is in a weird place with this game, because they have actually attempted to put some work into Ellie's narrative structure (and it should be said the reveal or discovery of one's sexuality is a central and distinctly unique aspect of being Gay, and does need an additional element of explanation narratively), but it's in a weird place because it was just in DLC. And so I can give them some credit for actually putting the work into the narrative this time, but it's going to be tough for them moving forward from a public perspective.

It's difficult because for Video games, besides Bioware, it's treading new ground, and it's still in a kind of awkward stage. They've gotten better at it though, and I do applaud them for that.

In terms of the gameplay, I've always felt like the Last of Us was a more enjoyable game than it ever had any right to be, and I think a lot of that came down to some key decisions to slow the flow of gameplay down in a manner similar to Resident Evil 4, and in regards to making a E3 showing it did come off more scripted than their initial Last of Us reveal before hand, but it remains to be seen if more work could be done towards other general animations when less of the game is concerned with climbing like Uncharted 4 was.

I remain optimistic.

Just felt like a natural scene to me, from a tv show or film, so in that sense that's pretty much as good a comments as it can gets, since all video game scenes to date that have tried it, just felt completely unnatural

The fact it's 2 females is completely irreverent, to me it was 2 people sharing a moment, which again felt extremely natural, that comes down to the actors doin that scene

But that's just my opinion

Yes but why does the others girl face so weird? No but seriously, I still think the first Nights of Azure did lesbian romance properly and nothings done it better since. (videogames) I'm hoping this isn't forced/bad.

It did, in the first game. So maybe next time know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.
Yeah, seriously. The character being the char
Why it is fake demo:
- Enemy perfectly coordinates and AI is perfect
- Perfect enemy placement
- They talk between each other perfectly coordinating their actions
- perfect camera shots despite being behind character
- perfect misses. You can see how things dramatically blow before your or very close to you.
- last second changes, like enemy character "finding you out last second" and pefectly trying to change animation to kill you.

How guilable you need to be to eat that scripted shit ? TLOU1 already had fake demo such as this but i didn't think after getting caught before they will actually do it again and turn scripts to 11.

There is huge difference between gameplay that has slight scripting to spice up usually boring minute to minute gameplay that has huge chance to be boring vs completely scripting every second of it.

While game will be probably good it is straight up false adverting.

That is the point. It doesn't actually show real gameplay. It shows you basically cutscenes.

Think whatever you want.

That demo was *exactly* like a meld between TloU and UC4 gameplay in *every* way you called it out.

The only point you make which stood out to me was the “misses” which I believe were showcasing a new dodge mechanic, instead of what you characterize it as.

But again...think whatever you want. I do not care.

Yeah, the brutality of the game is pretty heavy. It delivers on impact, but as the player, it'll be confronting to participate in that brutality.

I hope the bow and arrow are satisfying to use. I have always loved creeping around with my bow looking for the perfect shot. The whole game should be playable with the bow and arrow :)

Druckmann said that the church dance scene happens 4 years after the first game. So it's not a dream, it's a memory.

A summary of info from IGN:
  • Ellie's ability to move around the environment will be key to survival.
  • The deeper and more expanded traversal and stealth mechanics allow Ellie to interact with the environment in a much deeper way than the first game and add an extra sense of realism to the experience.
  • There is a jump button
  • The dodge mechanic that was seen in the gameplay reveal is an important part of combat.
  • ND is putting a major focus on delivering a tense and realistic.
  • AI is smarter and will often communicate with one another e.g. relying information about your position.
  • Stealth and survival are a major focus. This is to reinforce Ellies sense of desperation.
  • It's a linear story that takes place in large environments with more verticality.
  • Crafting has been expanded.
  • Facial animations have improved since Uncharted 4. More realistic eyes.
  • Joel is in the game.

Am I just being a silly sod, or was the crowd at E3 dead for this? I know fans were probably more concerned about seeing the RE2 remake trailer, but it just kind of amazed me that nobody really seemed to care after that gameplay was shown. And that is kind of strange, because I thought this would have been among the most anticipated games at the event. Maybe it's because people know this is ages away from coming out and so interest has declined, somewhat. For I mean, that video was cool and all, but then they didn't even reveal a release date. So how do we know that they'll not have us waiting another 2 years and then do another trailer at that stage? Although I do appreciate that Naughty Dog cares about the game being done right, as you should. But long periods of waiting can be lame.

People calling it fake are getting owned. Press are reporting that it's real. They sat beside someone playing it live, and all the animations are spot on perfect.

This hasn't been reported here yet, but the head of Eidos Montreal studio, where they are making Shadows of the Tomb Raider, had also called it fake.

Surprised people think it’s fake, did they not play the first game? Scripting/AI is always crazy in these games.

That’s certainly good press for ND though.

I'm also surprised. I mean this is Naughty Dog, their animation always looked phenomenal.
