[E3-Sony] Death Stranding - E3 2018 4K Trailer | PS4

I feel like this is indirectly explained through the trailer in itself with those somewhat invisible people. Also the fact that he is trying to lay low. I mean he walked in a hot zone and got engulfed by the tar goo mess of whatever

Well I kinda missed that so do you mind explaining it?

Also what are we expecting from this game. I know what we were shown is very specific, and yes lots of vast emptiness. But there is that scene where he whips out a gun, makes me wonder what sort of gameplay to expect? Definitely not cover based shooting, maybe something similar to MGS V? What sort of combat as well, these dont look like things you can fight with a gun

It looked good. But god damn they need to provide a motion blur toggle on this one.

The current motion blur is dialed to 12 and looks like shit.

Game Awards 2017 trailer shows the "Void Out" that happens when someone gets eaten. Also it shows those little things that the lady so gleefully enjoys swallowing swimming around Sam. KOOOJIIIMAAAAAA!!!!!!

I'm more hype than ever, but I'm afraid that Kojima and Del Toro are making a game for adult, not teens and couch potatos...

Also who is that Lindsay Wagner actress, the one I find doesn't look like her. And I hope they'll announce Idris Elba pretty soon.

Not sure why some said Death Stranding is a walking simulator. Did they not notice one character armed himself with a rifle?

Kojima was being interviewed at E3, he said you can play the game shooting, but its advised to play stealthily. Key thing is that you can choose which you prefer.

He also confirmed you will only play as Normans character.

Watched the trailer again and honestly this is my game of the show. I'm not a Kojima fan at all and neither I like the MGS games but this has me seriously hooked.

I wanna know whats going on. + I loved the music for this trailer. Instantly spotified.

I don'know what to make of this game. On the one hand it looks unique and flat out fantastic, but on the other it looks pretentious as hell.

"Give me your hand in death"

"Give me your hand in life"

Kojima, are you on the magic mushrooms? Either way, I'm playing this day one no matter how fucking crazy this is. And Sony must be sweating real good right now for giving Kojima a blank check and after three years nobody knows what the hell this game is supposed to be. To be honest, this has flop written all over it, seems too weird and hard to sell to be a hit.

This game is meant to be played on launch day. Playing it later is asking for a spoiler, out of which I want to play it knowing very little about the history and secrets of that game.
And I agree that this game will flop.

The more I look the more doubts I have. This looks so weird. And more actors joined the game. I particularly don't like this idea of putting real actors to star games.

I've never played a Kojima game before but I know who he is. This trailer blew me away. The visuals are unlike anything I've seen. I definitely plan to buy Death Stranding.

The interview with him about the creative process was bizarre. All I got from it was that if Kojima directs a cutscene at a restaurant he would show the entire process, and have a splitscreen showing the chef preparing the food because video games are art forced by technical limitations. Or something.

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.

Sounds like an enhanced MGSV gameplay set in a totally whacked out world, can't wait for the PC edition.

It looks to be a stealth/action game like MGS, of course the story elements will be a bit weird, it's a Kojima game, but I think it will be a classic game just like his prior efforts. Boss battles and action set pieces should be amazing. I have a feeling we will see more of the action bits, closer to release.....

is this happening on mars ?

No trees. Lots of water, rain, moss and small plants so it looks like the terraforming of Mars. The invisible hand creature also accelerates life growth so it could be related to the terraforming project that's gone awry.

I don't plan on being able to tell what goes on in Kojima's head (I'm not sure he does), but it's strongly hinted the environment shown is Iceland. Having visited it (was great, do go if you have the chance), yeah, that's pretty much what it looks like. There are other clues too, like the music being from an Icelandic band (or artist, not sure which).

Sightly OT
But have you been at the black beach? And is it really like in the pictures?

Sadly I did not - there's a lot to see, and a week is not nearly enough for it (and do rent a car - I don't think 4WD cars serve any function in cities, but there it's pretty much a necessity). But I have no problem believing it looks like in pictures. There were so many sights that seemed just otherworldy.

Maybe next year I will visit Iceland or some of scandinavia. Depends on the moneys ;)
Thanks for the answers.

It’s understable as I said that to people who I was watching it with just as the guy pulled out his rifle. We really need to see more to make an opinion but I recon this game will be nuts!

This is the man who created Boktai, I trust anything he does.

I guess MGS2 and 3 were alright too

He must feel so liberated to be able to work on something other than MGS. He kind of reminds me of the Wachowskis, probably could use an editor, but if you're weird you don't want him to have one because the risks stand a chance to exceed the norm.

That's true. I really hope the next show like TGS, or Playstation Experience, they show a little bit more than just someone walking around.

It looks mostly like Lindsay Wagner when she was younger and starred in The Bionic Woman. Just a cleaner/smoother skin texture.

Won't Kojima's desire to use real life actors and actresses be costly for Sony should they wish to make sequels and keep continuity? I personally prefer it when video game characters only exist in the video game world. For me, that's what makes characters such as Solid Snake, Sam Fisher etc endearing and authentic - that they are solely the product of the video game world and aren't involved in the scandal and messiness that characterises real life and modern celeb culture . Seeing all these celebrities appearing in games kind of takes something away.

Costly, sure, but it's not like Kojima has been that concerned with budgets so far. If Sony is willing to bankroll it, go on ahead.

I think the bigger issue/risk of using actual actor's appearances instead of virtual characters is that it's too uncanny valley. What we've seen so far of Death Stranding it doesn't seem to be that much of an issue. But take something like Until Dawn (which was running on a precursor of Decima) - as much as I liked the game, I think it would have been much more effective had they used virtual characters. As it is now, there most certainly are moments where it feels too artificial, which I don't think would have been the case had they used virtual actors, at least not to the same extent. However, that was then, perhaps with the updated engine (and Kojima Productions' experience in mocap) it will work alright.
